Ruth Skinnell Callahan
Ruth Skinnell Callahan, 77, of Lynchburg, died Saturday June 7, 2003 at Lynchburg Health & Rehab. Center. She was the widow of Ollie Viar Callahan who passed away in 1976.
Born July 22, 1925 in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Floyd Fulton " Buck" Skinnell and Hessie Craig Skinnell of Lynchburg, who survives. Mrs. Callahan retired after twenty five years with General Electric Corp.
In addition to her father and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph R.Skinnell, who died in November of 1998.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by: her son, Robert W. Callahan, her grandson, Robert Dean Callahan, and her great-granddaughter, Alexson Williams, all of Lynchburg.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday June 11, 2003 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, by Major John R. Rhemick of the Salvation Army. Burial will follow in Spring Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road.
William Thomas Clark, Jr.
William Thomas Clark, Jr., 65, of Rustburg, died Sunday January 11, 2004, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born September 19, 1938 in Campbell County, he was a son of the late William Thomas Clark, Sr. and Edna Guthrie Clark Harper, also a sister, Margaret Ramsey, preceded him in death.
William was formerly employed by H. K. Porter, Inc. and was a member of Jordan Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth Clark of Lynchburg; two sisters, Carolyn Riddle of Forest and Ruby Clark of Altavista, and one brother, Guy Clark also of Altavista.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. today at Jordan Baptist Church, with Dr. Melvin H. Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Cumbie Memorial cemetery, Rustburg.
Harry Linwood Tomlin
Harry Linwood Tomlin, 75, of Madison Heights completed this life’s journey and went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 15, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ruth M. Tomlin.
He was born in Goode, September 2, 1928 a son of the late Voorhies E. and Antha Lee Reynolds Tomlin. Mr. Tomlin was a retired self employed building contractor. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of Open Door Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Tomlin and Neva T. Kidd and four brothers, Duvall R. Tomlin, Wesley V. Tomlin, Haynes W. Tomlin and Burt J. Tomlin.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Melanie T. Dunn and her husband Bill of Charlottesville and Regina T. Hunter and her husband Luther of Huddleston; one son, Ricky Lee Tomlin and his wife Ivory of Forest; two sisters, Daisy T. Padgett of Lynchburg and Helen T. Rowland of Madison Heights; one brother, William O’Donald Tomlin of Madison Heights; five grandchildren, Brandon S. Tomlin and wife Melissa, Jennifer E. Tomlin, Ashley L. Hunter, Luke W. Hunter and Shrader H. Tomlin and one great grandchild, Mazie J. Tomlin.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Whitten Monelison Chapel by Pastor David Ralston. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.

George Jasper Smith
George Jasper Smith, 89, of Lynchburg died Monday, February 24, 2003 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of the late Alma Pierce Smith.
George was born December 20, 1913 in Lynchburg, the son of the late George Lee Smith and Mary Elizabeth Childress Smith. He retired from Chap Stick and was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by two sons, Richard Wayne Smith and his wife, Myrtle of Lynchburg and Gordon R. Smith and his wife, Bonnie of Amherst; three grandchildren, Lisa S. Scruggs, Troy W. Smith and David A. Smith; three great grandchildren, Candice Smith, Robert Smith and Tessa Smith; one great-great granddaughter, Allyiea Smith all of Lynchburg; one brother, Claude Smith of Roanoke and two sisters, Daisy S. Wood and Gertrude S. Nichols of Lynchburg.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Meade cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Monelison Chapel and other times at the residence of his son, Richard, 230 Twin Oak Drive, Lynchburg.
James Adron Albert
James Adron Albert, 86, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2003 at Guggenheimer Nursing Home. For 62 years, he was the husband of Mary Whorley Albert of Lynchburg, who survives.
Born February 11, 1917 in Eggleston, he was the son of the late Brady Johnson Albert and the late Lilly Brumfield Albert.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Albert was preceded in death by a daughter; Mary A. Ford.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his daughter; Bonnie A. Burnette and husband Charles of Lynchburg, two grandchildren; Stacie Ford of Lynchburg and Fred Burnette and wife Elizabeth of Pittsburgh, PA, three great grandchildren, two sisters; Dorothy A. Perkins of Lynchburg and Louise A. Dooley of Bedford, a son-in-law; Robert C. Ford of Lynchburg and a sister-in-law Nell Whorley of Lynchburg.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at Fort Hill Memorial Park by the Reverend Monty Fox.

Shirley Tucker Mays
Shirley Tucker Mays, 68, of Amherst, died Sunday, January 11, 2004 at her home. She was the wife of the late Vernon Taylor Mays.
Born April 18, 1935 in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Clark Tucker and the late Melita Mitchell Bradbury Tucker. Mrs. Mays was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehova's Witnesses. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.
Mrs. Mays is survived by one son, Don E. Mays of Lynchburg; three daughters, Brenda M. Reinheimer, Darlene M. Poling, and Lisa D. Mays, all of Amherst; one sister, Emma Jane Goin of Amherst; three brothers, Lyle Tucker and Roger Tucker, both of Lynchburg and Larry Tucker of Amherst; six grandchildren, Angela Hensley, Jeremy Poling, Tonya Smith, Crystal Reinheimer, Lauren Taylor Mays, and Brendan A. Mays and two great-grandchildren, Kelsa Smith and Tamara Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehova's Witnesses in Amherst.

Gertrude L. Layne
Gertrude L. Layne, 91, of Lynchburg, wife of the late Rev. Randall P. Layne, passed away, Sunday, August 15, 2004.
She was born October 6, 1912 in Amherst County, the daughter of the late James Leslie Leebrick and the late Nena Belle Woody Leebrick. Gertie was a member of College Hill Baptist Church for 63 years and was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Randall C. Layne (R. C.) and his wife Martha (Ackie) of Bowie, MD; Edward L. Layne (Pat) and his wife Judy of Lynchburg; three daughters, Jane Davis of Madison Heights; Martha Arrowood and her husband Charles (Butch) of Lynchburg; and Mary Campbell and her husband Tommy of Madison Heights. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Tammy Campbell, Randy Arrowood, Steve Layne, Melanie Fears, Mark Davis, Michelle Phillips, Ann Marie Shepherd, and Chris Davis; twelve great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruby Baker of Lynchburg.
In addition to her husband and parents, Gertie was preceded in death by one granddaughter; five brothers, Massie, Bill, Otis, Clarence, and Archie Leebrick; and two sisters, Lillie Fitzgerald and Mabel Johnson.
A graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at Spring Hill cemetery with her grandson, Rev. Steve Layne officiating.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, prior to the service, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.

Charles Eugene Knight, Sr.
Charles Eugene Knight, Sr., 62, of Amherst, was called home to the Lord, Sunday February 23, 2003, after a brave battle against cancer.
Born in Lynchburg, January 18, 1941, he was a son of Mary Frances Witt Knight and Elmer George Knight of Forest. In addition to his parents, he is survived by five sons, Charles, Jr., David, Zachery, Matthew, and Jeffery Knight; two daughters, Sherri Knight and Heather Bolen; four grandchildren, Samuel, Daniel, Shanyia, and Ta' Leyia; five brothers, Jimmy, Manus, David, Jeff, and Barry; and two sisters, Eleanor and Debra. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carroll.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday February 26, 2003, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, by the Rev. Lenn E. Lloyd. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. today at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the home of his parents, 1151 Lindsey Road, Forest.

Steven Patrick Power
Steven Patrick Power, 50, of Richmond and Roanoke, passed away at his home in Roanoke.
He is survived by his father, Aubrey "Pat" Power, his mother, Florence Wohanka Power, cousins, Cheryl Pokorny and her husband, Jim, Susan Dubina, Joanne Dubina, Allen Power, Leigh Power and Natalie.
MacDonald. Steve was a 1976 graduate of the University of Richmond and was self-employed with Alamo Supply, Inc., of Radford and Roanoke.
Funeral services will beheld at 2:00 PM Friday in the Mausoleum Chapel at Westhampton Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Richard David Mosure
Richard David Mosure, 62, of Lynchburg, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at Christus Santa Rosa Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. For 41 years, he was the husband of the late Sharon Lupold Mosure who went to be with the Lord on September 30, 2003.
Born in Buffalo, NY on July 8, 1942, he was the son of Lorraine Middlestead Rickard of Lockport, NY and the late John Mosure. Richard was a graduate of Practical Bible Training School in Johnson City, NY and received his master’s degree in counseling from Liberty University. He was an active member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and the Old Time Gospel Hour Choir. He was employed by Arise Residential Training Center as a Program Manager.
In addition to his wife and father, he was preceded in death by two children, Amy Lynne Mosure and David Jonathan Mosure.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Kimberly A. Hall and husband Rick of Laredo, Texas; two grandchildren, Justin and Judah Hall of Laredo, three half-brothers, Clayton Rickard, Calvin Rickard and wife Sue and Alan Rickard all of Lockport, NY; three half-sisters, Diane Kaese and husband Gary, Elaine Burnett and husband John and Karen Bucolo and husband Lonny all of Lockport, NY; and a foster sister, Peggy Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at Thomas Road Baptist Church by Dr. Jerry Falwell. Interment will be at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday at Maranatha Memorial Gardens, Martinsburg, WV.
Friends and family may visit from 7 – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Mary Lillian "Billie" Lee
Mary Lillian "Billie" Lee, 85, formerly of Lynchburg, died Monday, April 12, 2004 in Fairmont Crossing in Amherst.
Born December 25, 1918 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Jesse James Lee and the late Mary Hudson Lee Thaxton. She was retired from Wilco Uniform Company and a member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church. “Billie” was a former member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the J.L. Sunbeam Class and the Senior Choir.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Lee Emerson and Lois Gray Lee Kollarik and her step-father, George Thaxton.
"Billie" is survived by two nieces, Mary Lee Palumbo and Judith Kollarik, both of Lodi, NJ.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m.Thursday, April 15, 2004 at Spring Hill cemetery by the Rev. Murry Unruh.

Mary G. Duprey
Mary G. Duprey, 98, of Lynchburg, passed away, Friday, August 13, 2004, at the Odd Fellows Home in Lynchburg. She was the wife of 51 years to the late Joseph E. Duprey, who passed away in November 2001.
Born March 18, 1906, in Plympton, Nova Scotia, Canada, she was a daughter of the late Thomas L. and Margaret M. Melanson Phillips.
Mrs. Duprey grew up in Nova Scotia and lived in Massachusetts until 1957 when her husband was transferred to Lynchburg with G.E. She was a homemaker who loved her cats, Tabby and Mitsy, and enjoyed playing the piano and taking camping trips with her husband.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Duprey was also preceded in death by her sister, Margaret “Lee” M. Anderson, a niece, Carol A. Bailey and a great niece, Donna Shahagun.
Survivors include a nephew, David Anderson of MA, great nieces; Wanda S. SanJuan and husband Alex of Monrovia, CA and Debbie S. Fry and husband Bill of Los Angeles, CA, great nephews; Scott and Chris Shahagun both of CA, great nephew, Justin SanJuan and a great niece, Kelly Smith, both of CA.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 16, 2004 at Fort Hill Memorial Park by Father Rush and Deacon Gordon Cartwright
