Ollie Lawhorn Glass
Ollie Lawhorn Glass, 63, of 1411 Eleventh Street, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of Calvin Joseph Glass.
Born May 19, 1940 in Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Vernie Wheeler Lawhorn. Ollie was a devoted wife and homemaker. She was of Pentecostal faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Arthur, Edward, Leonard, Lewis, and William Lawhorn and one sister, Nancy Streit.
In addition to her husband, Ollie is survived by three sisters, Willie Lawhorn of Lynchburg and Minnie Haney and Margaret Harris, both of Waynesboro; a brother-in-law, Walter Glass and his wife, Liz; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Holloran, and a special niece, Tracy Glass, all of Lynchburg.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2004 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel by the Rev. Bill Evans. Interment will follow in Presbyterian cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home of her brother-in-law, Walter Glass, 902 Craddock Street.

Dorothy Minnick Bass
Dorothy Minnick Bass, 76, of Amherst died Thursday, March 13, 2003 at Fairmont Crossing in Amherst.
Dot was born March 31, 1926 in Charlotte, NC, the daughter of the late Cary Clayton Minnick and Ruby Gray Minnick. She retired from J.G.F Trucking Company and was a member of Madison Heights Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Vernum M. Minnick and a sister, Barbara M. Wingfield.
She is survived by a brother, Clayton L. Minnick and his wife, Phyllis of Lynchburg; one sister, Elaine M. Tyree and her husband, Bunk of Madison Heights; nine nieces and nephews; fifteen great nieces & nephews and four special friends, Helen and James Ferneyhough and Julia and David Grooms.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton and the Rev. Paul Land. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her brother, Clayton Minnick, 452 Westridge Circle, Lynchburg.
The family suggests memorials be made to Madison Heights Christian Church.
James Willard Staton
James Willard Staton, 82, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday June 18, 2003, following a long illness. He was the husband of Martha H. Staton.
Born April 7, 1921 in Amherst County, he was a son of the late James Anderson Staton and Mary Sue Drumheller Staton, and was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.
Mr. Staton was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W.II, and retired from C.L. Lewis Construction Co.
In addition to his wife Martha, he is survived by his children, Cynthia Deel and husband Jack, Jerrie Seamster and husband Donnie, Jackie L. Deel and wife Shannon, Barbara Langley and husband Lew, Debra Booth and husband Ed, Glenn Mays and wife Brenda, Cecil, Jimmy, Jerry, and Wayne Staton; a sister, Louise Tyree; a loving former daughter-in-law, Shirley; seventeen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday June 21, 2003 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, by Pastor Ellis Caudill. Burial will follow in Spring Hill cemetery, with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. today at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at his daughter Jerrie's home, 9757 Bear Creek Road, Gladys.
Margaret Helen Johnson Grishaw
Margaret Helen Johnson Grishaw, 76, a resident of Richfield Nursing Center in Salem and formerly of Lynchburg, passed away, Monday, January 19, 2004 at Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem. She was the wife of the late Richard Howard Grishaw who passed away on Dec. 1, 1970.
Born in Spout Spring on July 19, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Odell Almond Johnson Burford. She was employed at Craddock-Terry for several years and then was a private duty nurse for over 20 years prior to her retirement. Mrs. Grishaw was a charter member of Jordan Baptist Church and was a member of the Lynchburg Moose Lodge 715.
In addition to her husband and her mother, she was preceded in death by a brother Rev. John Burford and by a sister, Louise B. Hawkins.
She is survived by four children, Richard B. Grishaw of Chatham, Deborah G. Phipps and husband Paul Lee and Wanda G. Marshall and husband James both of Lynchburg and Larry H. Grishaw of Rustburg; nine grandchildren, Tonya, Shannon, Wendy, Melissa, Richard, L.H., Sarah, Casey Lee and Will; and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 22, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Dr. Melvin H. Campbell and Rev. Mark Grooms. Interment will follow in Spring Hill cemetery.
Friends and family may visit from 7 – 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her daughter Deborah.

Sarah Vowles Woodward Jones
Sarah Vowles Woodward Jones, 102, of Lynchburg, passed away Thursday August 26, 2004. She was the widow of Albert William Jones Born in Lynchburg, February 23, 1902, she was a daughter of the late James Gardner Woodward and Kate St.Clair Vowles Woodward, in addition five sisters and five brothers preceded her in death.
She is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A special family thanks is extended to two of her great-nieces, Mrs. Helen Craddock Saunders of Lynchburg and Mrs. Ann Reyns Stanley of Covington, for their devotion and many long hours of loving attention to their great-aunt during her last days. Profound thanks to the Rev. Ken Tesch for his devoted attention to Sallie and to the comfort he has extended to her family.
The family would like to acknowledge the many kindnesses, undivided attention, and love shown by the staff of Runk & Pratt Nursing Facility at Forest.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to, the Williams Home, the Patrick Henry Boys Plantation, Runk & Pratt Nursing Facility at Forest or Forest Road United Methodist Church, where Mrs. Jones membership was.

Audrey Davis Ware
Audrey Davis Ware, 87 of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2005. She was the wife of the late Robert Alver Ware.
Born December 30, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Stewart and Julia Tomlin Davis.
Survivors include five children, Barbara W. Gallagher and husband Jerry and Joyce W. Maddox and husband Hilton both of Lynchburg, Joseph R. Ware of Radford, Betty W. Curl and husband Jack of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and Carolyn W. Wagner and husband Jim of Forest, a sister, Ruby Delancey, two brothers, Alfred Davis and Stewart Davis and wife Arlene, seven grandchildren, Bryan Gallagher and wife Wendy of Midlothian, Debbie Leake and husband Bob of Lynchburg, Teresa Dix and husband Roy of Monroe, Joann Ware of Lexington, Jack Curl of Houston, TX, Whitney Wagner of Forest and A.J. Wagner IV also of Forest, six great grandchildren, a special sister-in-law, Virginia Settle, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 13, 2005 at the Corner Stone Baptist Church, by the Reverend Bryan Ferrell. Interment will take place in Corner Stone Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2005 at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence.

Minty Rees Brandley
Minty Rees Brandley, 29, of Lynchburg, went home to be with her Lord Jesus, May 24, 2005. She is survived by her husband of seven years, Nathan E. Brandley; and son Michael David Rees Brandley, 4 months.
Born January 17, 1976, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of Dave and Charlotte Rees of Forest and her birth mother Nancy Coe Thomas of Austin, TX. Minty graduated from Lynchburg Christian Academy and Liberty University.
In addition to her husband, son and parents, she is survived by a sister, Dawn Rees of Norfolk; and by a brother, Daniel Rees of Forest; two nephews; Zachery and Hunter; and the entire Coe family.
She leaves her class of special needs students at Staunton River whom she dearly loved as well as many relatives and dear friends.
We all feel blessed to have been part of her life for 29 years. She spread cheer and happiness wherever she went.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Thomas Road Baptist Church by Dr. Jerry Falwell and the Rev. Mark Grooms.
The family will receive family and friends 5 – 8 p.m., Friday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Homer Duval Martin
Homer Duval Martin, 61, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born December 17, 1941 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Harry Homer Martin, and the late Evelyn Eula Duncan Martin. He served in the US Air Force and was a former member of the Campbell County Rescue Squad.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by: a son; Mark Andrew Martin in 1995.
He is survived by: his wife of 40 years; Rebecca Stone Martin of Lynchburg, two sons; Victor Martin and wife Sharon of Evington, and Christopher Martin of Michigan, three grandchildren; Angela, Andrew and Victor, two brothers; Bernard Martin and wife Kitty of Lynchburg and Kenneth Martin and wife Mary of Richmond.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Reverend Carlton Duck. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
Family visitation will be from 7 – 8:30 p.m., Monday at the funeral home and at other time at the family home at 4532 Greenwood Dr., Lynchburg.

William Sanford Wilkins
William Sanford Wilkins, 88, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2003 at Lynchburg Health & Rehabilitation. For 62 years, he was the husband of Frances Osborne Wilkins, of Lynchburg, who survives.
Born February 9, 1915 in Yadkin County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late William Wilkins and the late Diana Wilkins. He served in the US Army during WWII and was employed as a truck driver for many years before he retired.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: three sons; William David “Buck” Wilkins and wife Kelley, James Gordon Wilkins and his wife Betty and Michael Warren Wilkins and his wife Lisa, nine grandchildren; Trevor Wilkins, Whitney Carrol, Anthony Perry, Kevin Craig, Crystal Wilkins, Allison Wilkins, Ray Lawrence, Melissa Lawrence and Lauren Smith, four great grandchildren; Parker Carrol, Alexander Carrol, Zack Wilkins and Avery Keesee and a sister; Molly Handy.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the family home 202 Bryant Road, Lynchburg.

Alice Ruth Weatherford Potts
Alice Ruth Weatherford Potts, 90, of Lilburn, Ga., died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004. She was the wife of the late Rev. Edgar Allan Potts, D.D.
She was born May 3, 1914 in Atlanta, Ga., to the late Mattie McLeod and David Allen Weatherford. She grew up in Richmond attending William & Mary College and George Washington University. On Nov. 2, 1933, she married
Edgar Allan Potts. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she served on council and was a member of the United Methodist Women and Chapel Sunday school class as well as the Women’s Club and proudly walked in the Crop Walk for many years.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Weatherford Potts.
She is survived by three daughters, Martha Ann Gregory of Nashville, Tenn., Mary Alice and her husband, Dr. John W. Rhodes, of Lilburn, Ga., and Virginia McLeod and her husband, Dr. George Freeman, of Lake Junaluska, N.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Ferguson, Mrs. Euna Hatton and Mrs. Ruth Hunt; four granddaughters, one grandson and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Centenary United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn cemetery, Richmond at 4 p.m.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
