Shannon Eugene Poore
Shannon Eugene Poore, 18, of 2001 Lancaster Street, died Thursday, May 30, 2002 in the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville from injuries received in a motorcycle accident.
Born December 7, 1983 in Lynchburg, he was the son of Dennis Eugene and Brenda Hailey Poore. Shannon was a former employee of Weyerhaeuser and Meineke Discount Mufflers, Madison Heights. Shannon was looking forward to his graduation from E. C. Glass High School on June 13, 2002.
Shannon was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Earlton L. Hailey and his special friend, Scott Hackworth.
In addition to his parents, Shannon is survived by his sister, Amanda Lynn Poore; his grandparents, Gene and Connie Poore of Lynchburg and Zeke and Louise Mason of Rustburg; his great-grandmothers, Elizabeth Maddox of Lynchburg and Lena Garrett of Rustburg; his aunts and uncles, Uncle Phillip and Jennifer, Bobby and Lisa, Kenny and Linda, and George and Janet; cousins, Sylina, Matthew and so many other special cousins and friends. Shannon is also survived by his fiancé and soul mate, Tanya Keesee.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2002 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. Gary Moore. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Lizzie Mason “Nannie” Coleman
Lizzie Mason “Nannie” Coleman, 62, of 128 Tiffany Lane, Madison Heights, passed away Monday, July 21, 2003 at her home after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Clyde W. Coleman
Born March 20, 1941 in Amherst County, she was the daughter of the late Robert P. and Mae Schmid Mason. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. Nannie was of Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
In addition to her husband, Nannie is survived by five sons, Clyde J. Coleman and his wife, Cheryl of Madison Heights, Danny R. Coleman and his wife, Cheryl of Big Island, Ricky W. Coleman of Lynchburg, Richard L. Griffin and his wife, Wanda of Rustburg, and Larry W. Griffin and Brenda of Lynchburg; three brothers, James Mason and Eugene Mason, both of Lynchburg and Bill Mason of Elon; three sisters, Mildred Mays and Geneva Hartless, both of Madison Heights and Frances Smith of Alabama; twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Hugh Bumgarner. Interment will follow in Meade cemetery, Madison Heights.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Thomas O'Neil Gordon
Thomas O'Neil Gordon, 64, of Monroe, died Thursday, September 30, 2004 at his home. He was the husband of Cynthia Layne Gordon.
Born in Lexington, he was the son of Bernice Dice Gordon of Forest and the late Clarence J. Gordon. Mr. Gordon was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, Pleasant View.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Rhonda Gail Gordon and one brother, Jay W. Gordon.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Gordon is survived by one son, Thomas Heath Gordon and his wife, Tanya of Monroe; two sisters, Joyce McFadden and her husband, Charles and Bonnie Gordon, both of Forest; one grandson, Nathan Thomas Gordon and many friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2004 in Fort Hill Memorial Park by Pastor Kenneth Payne.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Monelison Chapel, Madison Heights.

Doris Dalton Russell
Doris Dalton Russell, 92 of Forest, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2005 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Webb Randolph Russell.
Born January 30, 1913 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late George and Queen Tuck Dalton. Mrs. Russell was a member of the Beulah Baptist Church and was honored with a commendation on October 21, . 1990 for 30years of service with the cradle roll. She also belonged to the Silver Threads Choir and the Believers Sunday School Class.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Phillip Russell, two sisters, Gracie Barbour and Lara Crist, and two brothers, Emmit Dalton and Casey Dalton.
Survivors include a son, Reggie Russell of Forest, a sister, Clara Robertson, also of Forest, a granddaughter, Ashley Lee Youngmeyer of Catalina Kansas, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2005 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. Maurice T. McCarthy, Jr. Interment will take place in Beulah Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. and at other times at the residence of Clara Robertson, 4383 Waterlick Rd.

Leo Arlen Bryant
Leo Arlen Bryant, 67, of Madison Heights passed away peacefully at his residence, Monday, June 06, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Julia Goff Bryant for 48 years.
Born in Amherst County, February 17, 1938 he was a son of the late Russell Cleveland and Anna Belle Childress Bryant. He was retired from Rock-Tenn after 40 years of service and was a member of Amherst Baptist Church. Leo was a golf enthuisiast and a member of Winton Country Club for 27 years. He was also passionate about rebuilding classic cars. He made friends with everyone he met and always had a smile on his face. We will all miss his smile.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three boys and their wives, Lee Bryant and his wife Betty Sue; Jeff Bryant and his wife Angela and Mike Bryant and his wife Ruby all of Amherst; one sister, Vernell Martin and her husband Ralph; one brother, Russell Bryant and his wife Faye all of Madison Heights and five grandchildren, Jenny Bryant, Leigh Anne Bryant, Cole Bryant, Joshua Bryant and Hayden Bryant and loving friends, Pat and Duane Huskin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday from Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. David Donahue and the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens.

Louis McDaniel Blanks
Louis McDaniel Blanks, 86, of Monroe, died Thursday, February 21, 2002 in Guggenheimer Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Katherine Campbell Wilcher Blanks.
Born November 10, 1915 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Joseph M. and Lottie Brown Blanks. He was retired from the Central Virginia Training Center and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a Staff Seargant in the 318th infantry, 80th Division, 3rd Army from 1942-1945. Mr Blanks was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monroe.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Blanks and two sisters, Anne Blanks Creasy Ewers and Mary Blanks Swan.
Mr. Blanks is survived by his daughter, Barbara W. Tyree and son-in-law, Leslie L. Tyree of Quinton, VA; one granddaughter, Katherine L. Tyree of Chesaoeake and two sisters, Dorothy Blanks Bruner and Frances Blanks Sales Wade, both of Madison Heights.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Glynn A. Coleman. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post #16 will follow in Amherst cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 3-4 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel.

Margaret Marion DeJarnette Falwell
Margaret Marion DeJarnette Falwell, of Lynchburg died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the wife of the late Lewis T. Falwell.
Born in Halifax County, November 17, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Jasper F. and Louise Crabtree DeJarnette. She was a 1945 graduate of Volens High School where she was valedictorian of her class. Mrs. Falwell was a successful businesswomen having worked with her husband and later in life with her son with their family businesses. In the early sixties, she and her husband received their pilot’s licenses and she enjoyed flying very much. She was also very active with Alcoholics Anonymous serving for over 25 years as a counselor and was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.
One son, Michael Phillip Falwell preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Lewis T. Falwell, Jr. and his wife Liz of Goode; one daughter, Michele F. Sutton of Lynchburg; two sisters Rachel D. Elder and her husband William R. Edler, Jr. of Brookneal and Jeanette D. Basilico and her husband John W. Basilico of Warren, MI; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Paige Falwell, Matthew Lewis Falwell and Jason Patrick Sutton and one great-grandchild, Hailey Danielle Sutton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday from Thomas Road Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Falwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Falwell Family cemetery.

George Russell Ayers
George Russell Ayers, 92, of 138 Wright Shop Road, Madison Heights died Thursday, March 27, 2003 in Lynchburg General Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband for 65 years of Janie Dunaway Ayers.
Born March 2, 1911 in Fries, VA, he was the son of the late Rufus Alfred Ayers and Mereathy Mason Ayers. He retired from Bersch's Fairway Market.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Lloyd Ayers and his wife, Betsy of Madison Heights; three daughters, Barbara Cox of Germantown, MD, Esther Nance Wood and husband, Jack of Lynchburg and Sharon Bartells and husband, Paul of Hurst, TX; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. L. Grant Carter, III. Interment will be in Meade cemetery.

Leffel Leonard Duff, Jr.
Leffel Leonard Duff, Jr., 72, of 160 Grove Avenue, Madison Heights, died Monday, July 21, 2003 in Fairmont Crossing Nursing Home, Amherst. He was the husband of Evelyn Jennings Duff. In October of this year, Mr. and Mrs. Duff would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Duff was born January 14, 1931 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Leffel L. Duff, Sr. and the late Miry Davis Duff. He was a retired furnace operator with Calgon Carbon Corp. with twenty-five years of service and a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Duff was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Sandidges, VA.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Barbara D. Malarik and her husband, Michael of Monaca, PA, Timothy Duff and his wife, Margie of Evington, Tony Duff of Peoria, IL, Richard Duff and his wife, Marcia of Coraopolis, PA, Michael Duff of Madison Heights, and Kathy D. Kozlina and her husband, Joseph of Hopewell, PA; one brother, Preston Duff of Florida; nine grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Carl Davis. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens, Amherst.

Emma Hess White
Emma Hess White, 69, of Forest, went home to be with God on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at her home. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Fred Franklin White.
Born July 30, 1935 in Russell County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Patton Hess and the late Eliza Jane Cox Hess. She attended Forest Family Fellowship Church of the Nazarene and had been employed at Old Dominion Box Co., Allen Morrison Sign Co. and West End Assembly of God Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by: two daughters: Patsy Mays and husband Mike and Jane Nitzel and husband Herb both of Forest; one son, Billy White and wife Kathy of Rustburg; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother; Iris Hess of Belfast; two sisters: Lena Proffitt of Goode and Ruby White of Forest; as well as her church family and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p. m., Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Pastor Jeffrey S. Whitt and Rev. James G. Whitt. Interment will follow in Lebanon United Methodist Church cemetery.

James Clinton Repass, Jr.
James Clinton Repass, Jr., 80, of Wingina, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 at his residence. He is survives by his wife, Kathryn Marshall Repass.
Born Feb. 3, 1926 in Bland County, he was the son of the late James Clinton Repass, Sr., and the late Zola Belle Morehead Repass. He had served in the US Army Air Corp. and retired from I.T.T. in Salem after over 25 years of employment.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Robert Repass of Christiansburg; three daughters: Linda Huneycutt and husband Eddie and their daughters, Chrissy and Rachel, Beverly Moulse and husband Greg and Julie Lewis and husband Steve all of Salem; three step-children: Paul Marshall and wife Kathy and family, Matthew Marshall and wife Amy and family all of Hershey, PA and Evonne Marshall of Concord; one brother Jake Repass and wife Norma of Salem; one sister, Louise Aliss of Bland Co.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be private.
