Lewis David Tyree
Lewis David Tyree, 65, of 145 Turner Street, Madison Heights, died Wednesday, September 01, 2004 in the Veterans Hospital, Salem. Twice married
, he was the husband of Jeanette Jones Tyree and the late Gary “Sissy” Tyree.
Born November 4, 1938 in Madison Heights, he was the son of the late Marvin Edward and Ruth Vest Tyree. He was retired from Jones’ Exterminating Co. and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Mr. Tyree is survived by four daughters, Wanda Kirby of Madison Heights, Cyndi Tyree, her friend, Rick Youngblood, and Helen Tyree, both of Lynchburg and Nannette Lynn and her husband, Ryan, of Gladys; three brothers, Albert “Bunk” Tyree and Richard Tyree, both of Madison Heights and Leonard “Len” Tyree of Florida; five grandchildren, Stacy Bryan and her husband, Arliss, David Bryant and his fiance’, Andrea, Justin Kirby, and Joshua and Sarah Lynn and two great grandchildren, Jasmine and Clay Bryan.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by Pastor Peter Migner and the Rev. Jacob Uthop. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post will follow in Mead cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home of his granddaughter, Stacy, 248 Ragland Road, Madison Heights.

Ada Lee Harris Johnson
Ada Lee Harris Johnson, 77, of Lynchburg, died Thursday April 25, 2002 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
She was the wife of the late Frank Beverly Johnson, Jr. They were married
for 47 years. Born June 24, 1924, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Ada Lee Godsey Harris and Theodore H. Harris.
Mrs. Johnson graduated from E. C. Glass High School in 1938 and was a lifetime member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church where she served the church and Sunday school in many capacities; she was a tutor with the Lynchburg Literacy Council for many years.
She is survived by her daughter: Rebecca Lee Johnson of Ashville, NC. and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday April 29, 2002 in Spring Hill cemetery, by Dr. Stephen Anthony and The Rev. David Hasker.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 1030 Oakmont Circle, Lynchburg.

Breckenridge Bell
Breckenridge Bell, 79, of 38 Bell Road, Lynchburg died Saturday January 25, 2003 at 6 p.m. at his residence. He was the husband of Helen Blumke Keesee Bell and his first wife was the late Loreen R. Bell.
Breck was born July 20, 1923 in Campbell County, the son of the late Robert Kelty Bell and Marion Garbee Bell. He retired as vice president of Modern Buildings and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Melvin Victor Bell and his wife, Carolyn; one granddaughter, Faith Marie Breck Bell of Lynchburg; two step children, Wayne Keesee of Conn. and Sherry Wynne Brown of Texas; one brother, Macie Carlton Bell and two sisters, Mary Bell Harvey and Peggy Bell Mays all of Lynchburg.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Whites United Methodist Church cemetery by Mr. James H. DeMasters.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Cecil Smiley Williams Overton
Cecil Smiley Williams Overton, 62, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday October 20, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Twice married
, she was the wife of the late Ronnie Lee Williams and Bobby Gene Overton; her son, Ronnie Lee Overton also preceded her in death.
Born June 9, 1941 in Augusta County, she was a daughter of the late Cecil Osborne Smiley and Mary Hatter Smiley.
Mrs. Overton was a retired certificated nurses aid with Berry Hill Nursing Home, and a member of Amazing Grace Ministries.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia F. Overton of Lynchburg; brothers, Chester Campbell of Lyndhurst, and Jerry Fitzgerald of San Pedro, CA; sister, Lottie Wood of Lynchburg; and two grandchildren, Amanda Lynn Overton and Nancy Olivia Carlson.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2003 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, by Pastor Bill Evans and Fred Williams, with burial to follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the home of Cheryl and Ronnie Brooks, 68 Jameswood Court, Forest.

Edna Mae Little
Edna Mae Little, 60, of Lynchburg, died unexpectedly Monday at Lynchburg General Hospital.
She was born in Campbell County, April 28, 1944, a daughter of the late Frances Mae Little.
Edna was a member of Evington United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Edith L. Dixon and her friend, Steve Cox of Lynchburg; brothers, Peter Little of Madison Heights and Phillip Wayne Little and his wife Emily of Evington; a sister, Marion Little of Cumberland; two granddaughters, Laura and Typhne Dixon of Lynchburg and two devoted friends, Betty Martin and Doris Ballagh.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday September 9, 2004 at Evington United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jacob Christian officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the residence.
Thomas Rosser "Brownie" Browning
Thomas Rosser "Brownie" Browning, 95, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday November 29, 2004, following a short illness. He was the beloved husband of Bertha Richardson Browning for 53 years.
Born April 6, 1909 in Shipman, in Nelson County, he was a son of the late Thomas Marion Browning and the late Fannie Goolsby Browning.
After living and working in Washington, D.C. for 16 years, they moved to Aiken, SC. where Brownie worked on the Savannah River Project until the job was completed.
After moving to Lynchburg, Brownie worked for Montague-Betts Company until his retirement in 1974.
He was on the founding church council of Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Timberlake Road and served as a trustee until his passing. He was also a member of the Golden Merrymakers. In 1987, Brownie wrote a book of stories and rememburances entitled "Cross-Ties, Axe Handles, and Hound Dogs, which was sold locally.
He was a notable storyteller and entertainer, who preformed around the area, until well in his "90's". His love of life and laughter were legendary among all who knew him.
In addition to his wife Bertha, who was his angel of mercy until the very end, he is survived by a son, Robert M. "Doc" Browning and his wife Dolly of Dallas, Texas, and two "adopted" daughters, Kimberlee Scott Lapie and her husband Ronan of Arlington and Patricia Scott Mugavero and her husband Tom of Falls Church.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 2, 2004 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Rosemary Backer and the Rev. J.S. "Bud" Koiner officiating. Burial will follow in Virginia Memorial Park, Forest.
Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the residence.

Annie Brizendine Carter
Annie Brizendine Carter, 85, of Lynchburg died Wednesday, April 24, 2002 in Autumn Care Nursing Home in Altavista. She was the wife of the late Charles P. Carter and her first husband was the late Charles M. Wingfield.
Annie was born June 9, 1916 in Amherst County, the daughter of the late James A. Brizendine and Gracie Annie Miller Brizendine. She retired from Central Virginia Training Center and was a member of Sandusky Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sheffie Brizendine and Jack Brizendine and three sisters, Hattie Eanes, Irene Luduall and Edna Brizendine.
She is survived by three daughters, Rose Staton and husband, Ernest of Warrenton, Linda Huff and husband, Alfred of Lynchburg, Rebecca Cash and husband, Danny of Amherst County; one son, Charles P. "Chuck" Carter, Jr. and wife, Cheryl of Gladys; nine grandchildren, Lesa, Chip, Laura, Lynn, Allen, Melanie, April, Jessica and Heather; eight great grandchildren, Amy, Holly, Megan, Thomas, Joshua, Jermey, Kaitlin and Carrie; two sisters, Eula Brizendine and Mattie Brizendine of Lynchburg; two sisters-in-law, Cabel Brizendine and Elizabeth Brizendine and a brother-in-law, Buford Eanes.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Sandusky Baptist Church by the Rev. Bobby Wood and the Rev. Ralph Jackson. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Christine Jennings Hamlett
Christine Jennings Hamlett, 77, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2003 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Gilmore F. Hamlett.
Born October 19, 1925 in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Lee and Addie Moore Jennings. Mrs. Hamlet was retired from General Electric and was a member of Timberlake Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Walter R. Jennings.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hamlett is survived by two daughters, Shirley H. Magann and her husband, Daniel of Forest and Patricia H. Coleman and her husband, Wray of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Frank Peery and his wife, Susan, Lynn P. Downey and her husband, Mark, Shannon P. Shupe and her husband, Rick and Stephen Magann; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen J. Morcom and her husband, Otis of Monroe; two nieces and four nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Dr. Gerald Kroll, Pastor of Heritage Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Mr. E. Thomas Brockman
Mr. E. Thomas Brockman, 43, of 4208 Hilton Place, Lynchburg, died Saturday, October 18, 2003 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of Mrs. Mary Baker Brockman.
Born February 20, 1960 in Lynchburg, he was the son of Mrs. Teeny S. Brockman and the late Mr. Lewis Barnes Brockman. He was the President of Amherst Motors and was the founder of Rent-A-Wreck.
Mr. Brockman attended Amherst Academy, was a 1978 graduate of Virginia Episcopal School, and received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Washington & Lee University in 1982. He was a former Board Member of the Amherst Board of Education, the Virginia School of the Arts, and the Southwestern Ford Dealers Advertising Association.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Bertram L. Limbrick, an aunt, Mrs. Linda Brockman Mitchell Hatcher and an uncle, Mr. Elmer Wayne Sale.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one daughter, Ms. Elizabeth Baker Brockman of Lynchburg; one brother, Mr. L. Barnes Brockman, Jr. of Amherst; two sisters and brothers-in law, Mr. & Mrs. Ronald K. Byerly of Forest and Mr. & Mrs. Bertram T. Limbrick of Amherst; aunts and uncles, Mr. & Mrs. Richard L. Brockman of Lynchburg, Mrs. Evelyn S. Carter of Buena Vista, Mrs. Helen S. Lackey of Madison Heights, Mr. & Mrs. Hiram L. Sale of Glasgow, and Ms. Jenny L. Sale of Amherst; ten nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Mr. Brockman is also survived by his father and mother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Edward W. Baker of Lansdale, PA; his sister-in-law and her husband, Mr. & Mrs. Brent Monroe and his sister-in-law, Katherine L. Baker, all of Raleigh, NC.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2003 at Amherst Baptist Church by the Rev. David Donahue. Interment will follow in Amherst cemetery.

Heath Allen Jenkins
Heath Allen Jenkins, one-year-old son of Timothy Allen and Kelly Mayberry Jenkins, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004 at the Medical College of Virginia.
Heath was born March 21, 2002 in Lynchburg and in addition to his parents is survived by two sisters, Hollie and Hailey Jenkins; one brother, Christopher Jenkins; grandparents, Mary Jenkins of Lynchburg, Mike and Liz Mayberry, and Wanda and Phil Camden, all of Madison Heights and two uncles, Matt Jenkins of Lynchburg and Steve Jenkins of Madison Heights.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel. Interment will follow in Beaulah Baptist Church cemetery.
