Robert Olin Lipscomb

Robert Olin Lipscomb, 65, of 124 Melville Place, Madison Heights, died Thursday, June 9, 2005 in Lynchburg General Hospital.

He was the husband of Rebecca Brooks Lipscomb.

Born November 29, 1939 in Amherst County, he was a son of the late Wiley Macon and Mary Lipscomb Lipscomb.

He was retired from Central Virginia Co-op. and a member of Madison Heights Christian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Lipscomb and Otey Lipscomb and two sisters, Margie Wallace and Alice Hartless.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Lipscomb is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline L. Pesce and her husband, Vito of Madison Heights and Chrystal L. Johnson and her husband, Benjie of Amherst; one brother, Kenneth Lipscomb and his wife, Anna of Amherst; one sister, Ollie L. Morris and her husband, Leonard of Madison Heights and two grandchildren, Taylor Pesce and Hope Pesce. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2005 at Briarwood Memorial Gardens, Amherst by the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Monelison Chapel and other times at the residence.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Alzheimer’s Disease & Related Disorders Assoc. or the American Cancer Society.

Tina Brooks Falls

Tina Brooks Falls, 41, of Forest, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2002 at her residence. She was the wife of Edgar Milton Falls.

Born March 13, 1961 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of Evelyn Mays Farrar and the late Jerry Alston Brooks, Sr. She was employed with SCI Systems, Inc. and a member of Calvary Cross Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother and husband, Tina is survived by two daughters, April Nicole Falls and Michelle Lynn Falls of Forest; brother, Jerry Alston Brooks, Jr. and his wife, Tina of Lynchburg; sisters, Patricia Irene Wood and her husband, Howard, and Gloria Ann Lawhorne all of Lynchburg, and Shirley Rebecca Marcus and her husband, Danny of Concord; step-father, William Edward Farrar; mother-in-law, Edith Falls; and a number of nieces, newphews, brother and sister-in-laws.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m Tuesday in Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. Jack L. Brooks. Interment will follow in Spring Hill cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Evelyn Farrar 2203 Kings Street.

Virgie Phillips Eagle

Virgie Phillips Eagle, 84, of Rustburg, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Massie O’Dell Eagle.

Born June 5, 1918 in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late Luther T. Phillips and the late Nettie Brooks Phillips. She was a member of Fairview Christian Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Eagle was preceded in death by her son; Leroy O’Dell Eagle, six brothers; Floyd, Clarence, Wesley, Percey, Garland and Luther T. Phillips and one sister; Rena Weekly.

She is survived by: two daughters; Betty Ware of Rustburg and Edith Simmons and husband Fred of Lynchburg, six sons; Robert Eagle and wife Neta and Glenn Eagle and wife Teresa both of Rustburg, James Eagle and wife Patsy of Lynchburg, Ronald Eagle and wife Linda of Concord, Preston Eagle and wife Peggy of Forest and Kenneth Eagle and wife Valerie of Concord, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren and a sister; Arlene Ewing and husband Harold of Altavista.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 1, 2003 at White’s United Methodist Church cemetery by the Reverend Robert Phillips.

Friends may visit from 7 – 8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the home of Robert Eagle, 689 English Tavern Road, Rustburg.

Frank Buren Lawson

Frank Buren Lawson, 77, of Lynchburg passed away, Sunday, July 4, 2004 at the Hospice House with his family by his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Rosie Fitzgerald Lawson.

Born in Stuart, April 21, 1927, he was a son of the late Edgar S. Lawson and Dorothy Compton Lawson Damewood. Frank was the owner of Franks Military Surplus. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during WWII and was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Harold Lawson, Ronald Lawson and Larry Lawson and one sister in law, Joyce Lawson.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Jesse (Jack) Lawson of Rustburg and Clarence Lawson and his wife Judy of Lynchburg; his Goddaughter, Kim Bomar and her husband Troy and their daughters, Cheyenne and Makayla and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday from Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church by the Rev. James W. Martin and the Rev. Ronald Davidson. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olivet Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence.

Frank died from a rare cancer of the lung called Mesothelioma. The family suggest to those wishing to make memorial contributions, please consider the American Lung Association or the Hospice of the Hills, 3300 Rivermont Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24503.

Christian Allen Defibaugh

Christian Allen Defibaugh passed away Friday January 7, 2005 and Jeremiah Shelton Defibaugh, passed away Monday, January 10, 2005 in the University of Virginia Hospital. Born January 5, 2005 in Charlottesville, they were the twin infant sons of Vincent Allen Defibaugh, Jr. and Krystal Andrews Defibaugh of Bedford.

In addition to their parents, Christian and Jeremiah are survived by one brother, Randal Allen Defibaugh; grandparents, Vincent Defibaugh, Sr. and Arlene Defibaugh, Gail Branham and Warren Shelton Andrews, and Lawrence Jackson; great grandparents, Jack and Shirley Burton, all of Bedford, Ella Mays of Forest, and Pricilla Clark of Amherst.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Earl F. Clarkson, Jr. with interment to follow in St. Paul’s Episcopal cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.

W. Robert Haslam

W. Robert Haslam, 92 of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, April 4, 2005.

Born August 21, 1912, in Rosedale, NY, he was a son of the late William Walter Haslam and Bessie Cornelia Alford Haslam. Mr. Haslam served in the Army during WWII and was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church. He was retired from St. Paul Insurance Co. as a Field Manager.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Madeline Miesemer Haslam and his second wife, Marie O. Haslam, a daughter, Arlene Ewert, a granddaughter, Karen Ewert, two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include a daughter, Gayle Daly and her husband Michael of Lynchburg, two step daughters, Nancy Rice of Charlottesville and Marylou Ridley and husband Frank of Solon ME, nine grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2005 at Olivet Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville, by the Rev. Albert Connette.

Following the service the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall.

Bonnie May Hawkins Williams Jordan

Bonnie May Hawkins Williams Jordan, 85, of Lynchburg, passed away Weds., Oct. 10, 2006 at Lynchburg Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Born Apr. 23, 1921 in South Pittsburg, TN, she was the daughter of the late Henry L. Hawkins and the late Gracie Marie Rupert Hawkins. She was a member of Diamond Hill Baptist Church, Rustburg.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jordan was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Otis H. Williams, Sr.; her 2nd husband Joseph Jordan; a son, Leroy Williams; a daughter, Pearl Williams Smith; two sisters; and one brother.

She is survived by: three sons, Otis H. Williams, Jr., and wife Rose Marie of Lynchburg, Raymond “Willie” Williams and wife Robbie of Rustburg, and Earl “Sonny” Williams and wife Marie of Lynchburg; one son-in-law, Johnny Smith of Thomas Terrace; two brothers; two sisters; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Fri., Oct. 13, 2006 at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 – 8:30 p.m., Thurs., at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Tammy Lynne Laslie

Tammy Lynne Laslie, 26, of Lynchburg died Wednesday, March 13, 2002 in Norfolk, Virginia.

Born in Dorchester, Mass., December 8, 1975, she was a daughter of Daniel J. and Ruth A. Laslie. Tammy was a member of Old Forest Road Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Dianna Raye Buchanan and her husband Paul of Lynchburg and one brother, Joseph Daniel Laslie and his wife Susan of Lynchburg Station; her maternal grandmother, Lori Winson of Forest; her paternal grandmother, Trudy Laslie of Dorchester, Mass. and a number of Aunts, Uncles and Nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday from Old Forest Road Baptist Church with the Rev. R. Wayne McCraw and the Rev. Jack Barrett officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.

Elaine Almond Gill

Elaine Almond Gill, 80, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, April 28, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of Edward Shirley Gill who passed away in 1997.

Born July 12, 1922 in New London, Conn., she was the daughter of the late William C. Almond and the late Frances Perry Almond.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Gill was preceded in death by a sister; Doris Paris Garber.

Mrs. Gill is survived by: her daughter; Jacqueline G. Barringer and husband Joel of Rustburg, four grandchildren; Christopher D. Holt and Genevieve E. Holt both of Lynchburg, Jennifer Barringer of Evington and Scott Barringer of Lynchburg and a nephew; Michael E. Paris of northern Virginia.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Friends may visit from 7 – 8:30 p.m. today at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the home of her daughter.

Calvin Hamilton Pugh

Calvin Hamilton Pugh, 83, of Lynchburg, died Sunday, July 4, 2004 in the Lynchburg Health & Rehab Center. He was the husband of the late Laura White Pugh and the late Ann Millner Pugh.

Born August 26, 1920 in Appomattox County, he was the son of the late Jesse Palmer and Flossie Wood Pugh. He had retired from Allen-Morrison Sign Co. after 31 years of service and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Danny Ray Pugh and Terrell "Bobby" Peters and one daughter, Jenny Pugh Mallory.

Mr. Pugh is survived by a son, Calvin Peters and his wife, Karen of Roanoke; two daughters-in-law, Cindy Pugh Sperberg and her husband W. Melvin and Mary Peters, both of Lynchburg; five brothers, Clayton Pugh and Frank Pugh, both of Baltimore, MD, Carlton Pugh, Jesse Pugh, and Gene Pugh, all of Amherst; one sister, Lily Mae Wade, also of Amherst; four grandchildren, Greg Peters, Danny Peters, Chris Pugh, all of Lynchburg and Jason Peters of Roanoke as well as several great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by Pastor Carlton Duck. Interment will follow in Spring Hill cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marietta "Jackie" Hendrick Gordon

Marietta "Jackie" Hendrick Gordon, 81, of Lynchburg, died Fri, January 7, 2005 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Irving Gordon on February 26, 1977.

Born March 1, 1923 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late J. L. Hendrick and the late Isabell Dunn Hendrick.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette H. Johnson.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann G. Morrissette and husband Jimmie W. of Lynchburg; two grandchildren: Danielle M. Williams and husband Steve of Lynchburg and Matthew G. Morrissette, wife Valerie and their son, Wagner Gordon Morrissette of Burlington, NC; one brother, J. O. Newcomb of Lynchburg; three sisters: June Ewers, Sandra Marsh, and Gloria Thomas all of Lynchburg.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Monday, Jan. 10, 2005 at Fort Hill Memorial Park by Pastor Mike Dodson.

Friends and family may visit today from 3 - 5 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the family home.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 2700 Langhorne Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24501.
