Rosa Trent Brown

Rosa Trent Brown, 83, of Moneta, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2003, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Arthur Wilson Brown.

Born in Lynchburg, Nov. 30, 1919, she was the daughter of George Edward and Brighty Dooley Trent. She was retired from the Environmental Protection Agency and was a member of Morgans Baptist Church in Moneta.

She is survived by one brother, George G. Trent and his wife, Ruth of Lynchburg; five nephews, Johnny Trent of Annandale, Joe Trent of Altavista, Roger Trent of Forest, William Colbert of Roanoke and Curtis Inge Jr. of Lynchburg; two nieces, Dot Arthur and Laverne Martin both of Lynchburg and several special friends.

A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at 11 a.m., in Spring Hill cemetery by the Rev. Rick Mallory.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Morgans Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 477, Moneta, VA 24121.

Frances Caroline Stepic

Frances Caroline Stepic, 86, formerly of Maple Heights, Ohio, died Sunday September 5, 2004 in Lynchburg. She was the beloved wife of Frank J. Stepic for 63 years.

Born November 5, 1917 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Vidmar Ozimek.

In addition to her parents, brothers and sisters, a son –in-law, Clifford A. Ainsworth preceded her in death.

Mrs. Sepic was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

In addition to her husband Frank, she is survived by two daughters, Francine M. Hribar and husband John of Scottsdale, AZ., and Carol A. Ainsworth of Lynchburg; two sisters, Dorothy Budimlic and Bridget Zupancic; a brother, Norbert Ozimek; seven grandchildren, John Hribar and wife Anne, Wendy Wucherer and husband Greg, Cliff Ainsworth and fiancee’ Suzanne, Tammy Murphy and husband Patrick, Andrea Adkins and husband Tommy, Darryl Ainsworth and wife Michele, Francine Genthe and husband Brian; and eleven great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday September 9, 2004 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jim Dorson officiating. Inurnment services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Columbarium of Spring Hill cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas More Catholic Church, c/o the Building Fund, 3015 Roundelay Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502.

Veda Garver Bayless

Veda Garver Bayless, 75 of Amherst, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2005.

Born June 30, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth Garver.

Mrs. Bayless was a member of the West View Baptist Church in Madison Heights.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Kay Osborn.

Survivors include a daughter, Anne Brown and her husband, Charles, of Amherst and a son, Gary Bayless and his wife, Patty, of Hot Springs, AR; seven grandchildren, Genevieve and Joseph Brown, of Amherst, Jerry Hunt, of Greenwood, AR, Allen and Aaron Kemp, of Columbus, OH, Russell Bayless and Shannon Morrison, of Hot Springs, AR, 12 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2005 at the West View Baptist Church, by the Reverend Donald Stine.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions may consider the Hospice of the Hills.

Hattie Bass Sowell

Hattie Bass Sowell, 88, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, June 10, 2005 at The Summit. For 59 years, she was the wife of the late Martin Phillip Sowell who died on April 1, 1994.

Born July 9, 1916 in Halifax Co., she was the daughter of the late William James Bass and the late Nora Tuck Bass. She was a member of Fairview Christian Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gerald M. and Dolly Sowell of Spout Spring; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and three sisters: Evelyn Woodall of Lynchburg and Carrie Booth and Ruby Carwile both of Concord.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 13, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton and the Rev. Jerry Childress. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Family visitation will be Saturday, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of her son.

Memorial donations may be made to New Beginnings Church, Building Fund, Spout Spring, VA.

James Herley Davis

James Herley Davis, 66, of Monroe, died Friday, January 20, 2006 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of the late Carol Kuhut Davis.

Born July 6, 1939 in Altavista, he was a son of the late James Herman and Nettie West Davis. He was a retired dry wall contractor and a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Mr. Davis is survived by two daughters, Ms. J. Hope Davis Stilwell of Long Island and Jessica Davis Clark and her husband, Melvin of Monroe; one brother, Howard Kent Davis of Union, SC and five grandchildren, Jami F. Stilwell, Christopher E. Stilwell, Emili E. Stilwell, Melvin L. Clark, IV, and Meghan N. Clark.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2006 at Whitten Monelison Chapel, Madison Heights.

Murrell F. Campbell, Jr.

Murrell F. Campbell, Jr., 75, of Madison Heights died Sunday, April 28, 2002 in Lynchburg General Hospital.

He was born October 3, 1926 in Amherst County, the son of the late Murrell F. Campbell, Sr. and Elsie Whitehead Campbell. He retired from Central Virginia Training Center, was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Westview Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by one son, Wayne C. Campbell, two brothers, Warren Campbell and Glenn Campbell and one sister, Shirley Kushner.

He is survived by one son, Robert F. Campbell and his wife, Karen of Madison Heights; two daughters, Lucy C. Bryant and her husband, Charles and Linda W. Cocke and her husband, Wayne of Madison Heights; six grandchildren, Wendy L. Tucker and Crystal L. Bryant of Madison Heights, Amy L. Campbell of Washington, DC, Troy W. Campbell of Springfield, MA, Laurey W. Stinnette and her husband, James of Madison Heights and Mandy M. Cocke of Dallas, TX; one great granddaughter, Sydnie K. Stinnette of Madison Heights; two brothers, Murray Campbell and Robert Campbell of Greenville and two sisters, Fay Lee Rexrode of Lexington and Becky Ellinger of Waynesboro.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Amherst cemetery by the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton with Military Honors by American Legion Post 16.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Whitten Monelison Chapel and other times at the residence of his daughter, Lucy, 118 Hickory Way, Madison Heights.

The family suggests memorials be made to Monelison Rescue Squad.

Katherine Day Walker

Katherine Day Walker, 80, of Long Meadows Drive, died Monday January 27, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

She was the widow of Emory Clay Walker. Born November 2, 1922 in Lynchburg, she was a son of the late George Washington Day and Ola Jackson Day; her son, Larry W. Hodges also preceded her in death. Mrs. Walker retired from Craddock-Terry Shoe Co., she was a past Noble Grand of the Lynchburg Home Rebekah Lodge # 41, and a member of Heritage United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son, Kenneth R. Walker of Annapolis, MD., two daughters, Ann H. Martin of Evington and Jean H. Lambert of Florida; a brother, James Gordon Day of Lynchburg, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday January 29, 2003 in the Mausoleum Chapel of Fort Hill Memorial Park, with Rev. Kenneth B. Bryan officiating.Memorial honors will also be provided by the Lynchburg Home Rebekah Lodge # 41.

Following services, the family will receive friends in the mausoleum chapel and at the residence.

Lawrence Randolph “Larry” Ernst

Lawrence Randolph “Larry” Ernst, 59, of Rustburg, died Wednesday October 22, 2003 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.

Born May 18, 1944 in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Martin Luther Ernst, Sr. and Beatrice Phelps Ernst.

Larry was a sales representative for Auto Zone; he was a die cutter for Progress Printing for 13 years; a former employee of Flowers Bakery; and a U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his children; Kimberly D. Ernst of Lynchburg, Teresa E. Dillon Robinson and her husband Dewey Wayne of Concord, and Chris Harold and his wife Lisa of Madison Heights; his devoted fiance’, Jane G. Harold of Rustburg; a brother, Martin L. Ernst, Jr. of Lynchburg; five grandchildren, Kate Revis, Joshua Dillon, Eric Dillon, Christopher Harold, and Jastin Dudley; a special aunt, Cottelle Trujillo of Lynchburg, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00a.m. Saturday October 25, 2003 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, by the Rev. Ron Davidson and the Rev. Nolan Crowder. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the residence, 1972 Red House Road, Rustburg.

James Harry Catlett

James Harry Catlett, 71, of 3232 Maryland Ave., died Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at his home. He was the husband of Loretta Walker Catlett.

Born March 15, 1933 in Buckingham County, he was the son of the late James Marshall and Irene Beasley Catlett. He was retired from Modern Builders Construction Co. and was of Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dora Staton.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Catlett is survived by one son, James Harry Catlett, Jr.; one daughter, Brenda Sue Catlett; one sister, Lillie Hall, all of Lynchburg and his special pet, Paul E.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 2004 at Penuel Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Carlton Gunter and the Rev. Donnie Glass.

Frances Nan Thaxton Wingfield

Frances Nan Thaxton Wingfield, 85 of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2004. She was the wife of the late David Edgar Wingfield.

Born August 29, 1919, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Robert Henry Thaxton and Bessie Chandler Thaxton. Mrs. Wingfield was a member of the Sandusky Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Thaxton and two sisters; Irma Thaxton and Annie Dinkins.

Survivors include four sons; Edgar W. Wingfield and wife Mildred of Spout Springs, Robert Wayne Wingfield of Martinsville, Michael Keith Wingfield and wife Pat of Amelia and David E. Wingfield and wife Carolyn of Rustburg, two daughters; Mary F. Whorley and husband Charles of Madison Heights and Vickie Fleshman and fiancé Paul Peterson of Rustburg, two brothers; Henry E. Thaxton of Madison Heights and Keith Thaxton of Bedford, a sister, Evelyn Hartless of Newport News, two special friends, Devine Morris and Hilda Furst, 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2004 at Fort Hill Memorial Park by the Reverend Bob Wood.

The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 p.m. tonight at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel and Friday at the Hillcrest Apartments, 3000 Birchwood Dr. in the Community Room.

Boyd Webster Campbell, Sr.

Boyd Webster Campbell, Sr., 65 of Madison Heights, passed away Friday, February 25, 2005. He was the husband of Patsy Campbell.

Born January 18, 1940, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Boyd and Edith Cash Campbell. Mr. Campbell was a member of the Elon Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Vickie Massie and husband Carl of Madison Heights and Angie Hunt and husband Bobby of Elon, a son, Webb Campbell, five grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 28, 2005 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Steve Tyree. Interment will take place in the Elon Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from7-8:30 pm. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
