Herbert Lee Millner
Herbert Lee Millner, 80, of 159 Carrington Road, Amherst, died Sunday, January 29, 2006 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Virginia Burks Millner for sixty-one years.
Born December 25, 1925 in Massies Mill, he was a son of the late Sidney Alfred and Maggie Cash Millner. He was employed by Gould Battery for twenty-one years, Thacker Detective Agency for seven years and retired from J.G.F. Trucking Company. Mr. Millner was a member of the former Trinity United Methodist Church and attended Bethel Baptist Church in Amherst.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Millner is survived by three children, Peggy M. Page of Madison Heights, Melvin L. Millner and his wife, Linda and Pamela R. Self, both of Amherst; one brother, Joe Millner and his wife, Edith of Madison Heights; one sister, Clara Ballard of Concord; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Dave Peters, Pastor of Bethel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Ernest James Wilder, Jr.
Ernest James Wilder, Jr., 50, of Lynchburg, died Friday May 10, 2002 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Karen Wilder.
Born August 7, 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a son of Lillian Wilder of Cleveland and the late Ernest J. Wilder, Sr. Ernie was a dispatcher for Terrell E. Moseley, Inc. of Lynchburg.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by daughters, Marci Marie Wilder of Lynchburg and Anastasia Marie Vrettas of California; and sister, Carole Bostwick of Cleveland, Ohio.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday May 14, 2002 at Whitten Park Ave. Chapel, 1336 Park Ave., Lynchburg.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday May 15, 2002 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Lynchburg, with Msgr. J. Kenneth Rush officiating; a reception for family and friends will follow the service in the Commons area of the church.

Jesse Virgil Lunsford, Jr.
Jesse Virgil Lunsford, Jr., 79, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born January 18, 1924 in Crew, he was the son of the late Jesse Virgil Lunsford, Sr. and the late Florence Wilson Lunsford. He was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church and had retired from Westover Dairy.
He is survived by: a sister; Evelyn Deaner and husband Eugene of York, PA, a niece; Arliss Allen, two nephews; Carlton Deaner and Terrell Deaner, two great nieces, one great nephew and two aunts; Dorothy Rice and Bertha Jones.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
Family visitation will be from 10 – 11 a.m., Tuesday, for one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Claude Edward Steppe
Claude Edward Steppe, 77, of Lynchburg, died Sunday July 13, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born January 13, 1926, in Campbell County, he was a son of the late Walter Clark Steppe and Nannie Hunt Steppe; in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Harold Steppe, and a sister, Emma Bickers.
Mr. Steppe was a U. S. Navy veteran of W.W.II, serving on the U.S.S. Wisconsin, from the first day of Commission for battle, and retired from Pride of Virginia Meats.
He is survived by a sister, Viola S. Baugher of Lynchburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday July 16, 2003, by the Chaplin of American Legion Post 16.

Robert Thomas Lipscomb, Jr.
Robert Thomas Lipscomb, Jr., 47 of Lynchburg, passed away, Wednesday, September 22, 2004.
Born January 10, 1957, in Lynchburg, he was a son of Robert T. and Betty Irby Lipscomb, Sr. of Lynchburg. Mr. Lipscomb was a member of Fairview Christian Church.
Mr. Lipscomb was preceded in death by one brother, Allen Scott Lipscomb.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lipscomb is survived by three children, Robert “Tee” Thomas Lipscomb, III of Concord, Amy Lyn Lipscomb and Paul Allen Lipscomb, both of Hammonton, NJ, one sister, Deborah Lipscomb Boehle and husband Klaus of Forest and a special friend, Theresa Carrol of Lynchburg, one niece, Kartley, other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 27, 2004 at the Presbyterian cemetery by the Rev. Dale Long and Rev. D. Jack Hamilton.

Mabel Wilson Grogan
Mabel Wilson Grogan, 79, of Lynchburg, died Thursday May 9, 2002 following an extended illness. She was the widow of Vearl C. Grogan.
Born January 7, 1923 in Bedford County, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Chloe Lawrence Wilson.Mrs. Grogan was a charter member of Old Forest Road Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Sue and her husband, P. Thomas Thurmond, Jr. of Chesterfield and Lyndia G. and her husband, J.P. Hamlet of Lynchburg; one son, Mark Allen and his wife, Sandra Cyrus Grogan of Lynchburg; four brothers, Ralph Wilson, Aurbon Wilson, Cuthbert Wilson and Alfred Wilson; one sister, Doris W. McCraw; five grandchildren, Bryan Hamlet, P. Thomas Thurmond, lll., Laura Thurmond Kangas, Heather Grogan and Hannah Grogan; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday May 11, 2002 at Old Forest Road Baptist Church, with the Rev. R. Wayne McCraw officiating. Burial will follow in Beulah Baptist Cuhrch cemetery, Leesville Road.

Mary Padgett Cox, 72, of Lynchburg, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at Lynchburg Health & Rehab Center. For 53 years, she was the loving wife of Thomas Haden Cox, Sr.
Born January 26, 1931 in Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Padgett, Sr. and the late Mary Hawks Padgett. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother,

Ethyl Pauline Pratt
Ethyl Pauline Pratt, 81, of Church Hill, TN., died Sunday, July 13, 2003 in Runk & Pratt Residential Adult Care. She was the wife of the late Willard “Bill” Pratt. She was born November 5, 1921 in Hawkins County, TN. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Pratt was a member of Kingsport Baptist Temple, Kingsport, TN. Mrs. Pratt is survived by one son, Dr. Norman Pratt and his wife, Linda of Forest; one daughter, Melodie P. Hatcher and her husband, Gene of Johnson City, TN; four granddaughters, Vickie Pratt Runk and her husband, Brian of Forest, Karen Pratt English of Lynchburg, Kelly Hatcher Bachman and her husband, Gino of Maryville, TN and Lindsey Hatcher of Johnson City, TN and four great-grandchildren.

Robert Rogers Cottingham
Robert Rogers Cottingham, 66, of Lynchburg, died Friday November 7, 2003 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Frankie A. Cottingham.
Born February 24, 1937 in Marion County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Robert and Lester Rogers Cottingham, in addition to his parents, his son, Robert “Bo” Cottingham, preceded him in death.
Robert was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the Masonic Order, he was formally employed by the General Electric Company at Cape Kennedy, Florida and Florence, South Carolina before his employment with Ericsson, Inc. in Lynchburg; a true lover of life, he was also an avid golfer, being a member of Falling River Country Club, and a racing enthusiast.
In addition to his wife Frankie, he is survived by his daughter, Margaret Morgan and her husband Ronnie of Pineville, SC.; a sister, Ann Harrelson and her husband Mack of Mullins, SC., his grandchildren, Brandon, Bryce, Brooks, and Daniel Morgan, Amber and Ashton Cottingham, and numerous close friends, neighbors, and co-workers.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the residence.

Edward Alexander Hesson
Edward Alexander Hesson, 90, of Madison Heights, died Thursday, March 03, 2005 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Elsie Marie Crawford Hesson for almost fifty-two years.
Born July 28, 1914 in Walkers Ford, VA, he was the son of the late James William and Ida Thomas Hesson. He was a retired Psychiatric Aide at the Central Virginia Training Center with thirteen years of service and a retired Postmaster for the town of Stapleton. Mr. Hesson was a member of the Ageless Wonders and St. James United Methodist Church in Riverville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Myrtle Hesson Crews and Gladys Hesson Henderson and a half-sister, Dora Hesson Coleman.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hesson is survived by two nieces and three nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005 at Whitten Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Charles E. Schooler, Jr. and the Rev. Alexis Fathbruckner. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens. .

Nathan Elijah Witt, 81, of Evington, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at his residence in Evington.
Born November 7, 1924, in Campbell County, he was a son of the late Sidney Jubal Witt and Lola Bell Swain Witt.
Nathan is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris Baber Witt; a son, Nathan Elijah Witt, Jr and wife, Carolyn (Susie), of Evington; five daughters, Shelby Witt Logwood and husband, Roosevelt, of Atlavista, Joyce Witt Stinson and husband, David, of Madison Heights, Audrey Witt Hamilton and husband David of Appomattox, Mary Witt Bare and husband John of Forest, and Pamela Witt Willoughby and husband Doug of Lynchburg; four sisters, Jean Hall and husband, Frank, of Evington, Shirley Phillips and husband, Lee, of Lynchburg, Phyllis W. Nathan attended Langhorne United Methodist Church. He was a United States World War II Veteran who served in Battery A, 557th Anti-Aircraft Artillery (AW) Battalion and a member of the American Legion. He was an avid fiddle player and bluegrass enthusiast.
Nathan worked for Hare Tree Surgeon from 1949 until retirement.

Daniel Franklin Davis
Daniel Franklin Davis, 75, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday May 8, 2000 at his residence.
He was the husband of the late Doris Compton Davis who died in May of 1995. Born January 24, 1927 in Fries, VA, he was a son of the late Jessie Franklin Davis and Goldie Gertrude Jones Davis. Mr. Davis was a U.S. Navy veteran of W.W. II, he retired from Lynchburg Foundry and later worked security at Liberty University and V.D.O.T.; he attended the Salvation Army Church.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Reynolds and Betty Campbell and a grandson, William "Will" Davis.
He is survived by two sons, Daniel R. Davis and wife, Martha of Lynchburg and Kevin R. Davis and wife, Tammy of Cape Canaveral, FL; a brother, David P. Davis and wife, Frances of Madison Heights; a devoted sister-in-law, Cordelia Huffman of Lynchburg; eight grandchildren, Sharon and husband, Terry, Jeremy, Stephanie, Alicia, Jessica, Ronnie, Paul, and Greg; and two great- grandsons: Alex and Daniel.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday May 10, 2002 at Fort Hill Memorial Park by Major John R. Rhemick .
