Beatrice Farmer Goff

Beatrice Farmer Goff, 88, of Madison Heights, died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Wilbur Blanchard Goff.

Born in Amherst County, December 24, 1914, she was a daughter of the late William Archer and Janie Thomas Farmer. Mrs. Goff was a member of Madison Heights Baptist Church. She is survived by one son, W.B. (Jim) Goff Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; one daughter, Jackie Camden and her husband, Howard, of Rockbridge Baths, Va.; two sisters, Margaret F. Parker of Florence, S.C. and Shirley F. Turner of St. Augustine, Fla.; two brothers, Calvin K. Farmer of Lynchburg and George T. Farmer of Bradenton, Fla.; five grandchildren, Michael A. Goff, Terri L. Goff, Mitchell H. Camden, Gregory T. Camden and Jennifer C. Evans; 10 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Four brothers preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, at Whitten Monelison Chapel, by Dr. Timothy Madison. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence, 138 Woody's Lane, Madison Heights.

Dorothy Marie Lavoie Morrison

Dorothy Marie Lavoie Morrison, 85, of Villages, FL, passed away at her home in Florida. She was the wife of the late Raymond Lloyd Morrison, Sr., who passed away in 1976.

Born October 18, 1918 in Cohoes, NY, she was the daughter of the late Ruben Lavoie and the late Lorena Guertin Lavoie. She was a former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and had retired from Piedmont Mills.

She is survived by; two sons, Raymond Morrison, Jr., of Ocala, FL and Richard Morrison of Villages, FL; a devoted friend Linda Drummond of Villages, FL; four grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie Downey of Troy, NY and Joan Nowicky of Naples, FL; and one brother, Bernard Lavoie of Ft. Myers, FL.

A graveside service will be conducted at 12:00 p. m., Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 at Virginia Memorial Park by Monsignor J. Kenneth Rush.

The family will receive friends from 7 – 9 p.m., Thursday, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

The family is being assisted by Whitten Timberlake Chapel and Cremation Services, 434-239-0331.

Alan Francis Wilson

Alan Francis Wilson, 58, of Concord, died Monday, January 30, 2006 at his residence. He was the husband of Janice Cobb Wilson.

Born March 21, 1947 in London, England, he was the son of the late Francis William Arthur Wilson and the late Gladys Violet Davis Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a Senior Life Underwriting Consultant and Team Leader with Genworth Financial and was an auxiliary police officer in Ontario, Canada, retiring after twenty-five years of service as a sergeant. Mr. Wilson was a member of Thomas Terrace Baptist Church in Concord.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Wilson is survived by one son, Jason Brian Alan Wilson and his fiance’, Shannon Jane McGrath of Burlington-Ontario, Canada; two step-sons, Christopher Ray Winstead of Warner Robbins, GA and Jason Lee Winstead of Wilson, NC; one sister, Violet Watkins; two brothers, Donald William Wilson and Brian Arthur Wilson, all of Belleville-Ontario, Canada; one grandchild, Makaila Leslee McGrath and two step-grandsons, Mathew Ryan Winstead and Roger Wilton Winstead.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2006 at Thomas Terrace Baptist Church, Concord, by Pastor Mark Grooms.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Disease & Related Disorders Assoc.

Joseph Harli Martin

Joseph Harli Martin, infant son of Jim and Krissy Druin Martin, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002 in Virginia Baptist Hospital.

In addition to his parents, Joseph is survived by his brother, Luke Martin of Lynchburg; sister, Carla Martin Howell of Canada; paternal grandmother, Alfreda Enders Martin of Lynchburg; maternal grandmother, JoAnn Druin, also of Lynchburg; maternal grandfather, Robert Druin of Boones Mill; maternal great grandmother, Dorothy Hall of Evansville, Indiana and “Oni’s” special nephew, Gus Satterwhite of Lynchburg.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcoal Church cemetery by the Rev. David Stewart.

Jim and Krissy wish to express their sincere gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from all of their family and friends.

Whitten Park Avenue Chapel is serving Joseph’s family.

James Matteus Callaham, Sr.

James Matteus Callaham, Sr., 75, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, March 22, 2003 in Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born October 14, 1927 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Raymond Claude Callaham, Sr. and the late Mary Burks Callaham. Jim was retired from Crane & Breed Casket Company, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Jim is survived by his son, Mack Callaham and his wife, Betsy of Elon; his daughter, Meg Carrington of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Jacob Callaham and his wife, Dea, Corey C. Posey and her husband, Steve, Alex Carrington, and Katie Carrington and three great-grandchildren, Skyler, Walker, and Caleb.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Claudine Tobin Simonetta

Claudine Tobin Simonetta, 79, of Forest, passed away peacefully at her home, Tuesday afternoon July 15, 2003, after a long and wonderful life.

Born June 21, 1924 in Cadyville, NY, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Patrick Tobin and Nellie Conway Tobin, and was one of thirteen children. She was a graduate of Plattsburg State College, where she received both her Bachelors and Masters degrees.

Mrs. Simonetta was a retired teacher and a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. She was blessed with many loving neighbors, friends, and relatives. A special thanks to the Crouch family for their support and care. Claudine was small in stature, but great in spirit and example.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leo Octavio Simonetta; son John D. Simonetta; brothers, Tom, Conway, Frank, Joe, Harold, and Pat Tobin; sisters, Leona Hazen and Helen DeJaager.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Simonetta Smith and husband, Robert of Lynchburg; sons, Leo G. Simonetta and wife, Donna of Baltimore, MD, and Joe Simonetta of Austin, TX; sisters, Betty Carter and husband Ray and Kay Simpson; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A Liturgy of the Resurrection will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday July 18, 2003 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, by the Rev. Jim Dorson.The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 Roundelay Road, Lynchburg, 24502 or to Hospice of the Hills, c/o 3300 Rivermont Ave., Lynchburg, 24503.

Rachel Banton Freeman

Rachel Banton Freeman, 80, of Madison Heights, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2004. She was the wife of the late Ernest Clark Freeman.

Born in Nelson County, February 7, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Alvin B. Banton and Eva Bryant Banton. Mrs. Freeman was an active member of Madison Heights Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters.

Survivors include one step son, Donald Ray Freeman and his wife Brenda of Rustburg and one step daughter, Shirley Freeman Bowers and her husband Larry, of Roanoke, three sisters, Elsie McDaniel of Forest, NC, Betty Banton Goff and her husband Calvin of Madison Heights and Della Wills of Amherst, four step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Betty Goff.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Madison Heights Baptist Church, with Dr. Tim Madison officiating.

Interment will be at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Madison Heights Baptist Church building fund.

Francis S. (Frank) Jeffrey

Francis S. (Frank) Jeffrey, 77, of 221 Appleway Drive, Madison Heights, VA, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002 in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Evelyn Yvonne Quick Jeffrey, who died in November, 1989.

Born February 16, 1925 in Barton, Maryland, he was the son of the late George F. S. Jeffrey, a former member of the Maryland House of Delegates, and the late Meadie Green Jeffrey. He was a member of the Church of the Brethern, Westernport, MD and attended the Northminster Presbyterian Church, Madison Heights.

As a paratrooper of the 101st Airborne Division during World War II, Frank jumped into Normandy at 1:30 a.m. on D-Day. During the fighting in Normandy, he was slightly wounded by artillery fire. He was taken prisoner and forced to work in a German factory, making sugar out of sugar beets. He was held prisoner at Stalag IVB in Eastern Germany, near the Elbe River and was subsequently wounded by bayonet during an attempt to escape. Pvt. Jeffrey was liberated by the Russians when they linked up with the allies. Russia would not allow anyone to leave, but Pvt. Jeffrey and another trooper escaped the next day and proceeded to American lines.

He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, P.O.W. Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European Theater Medal w/bronze arrowhead and bronze star, Purple Heart, Victory Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star on paratrooper wings, which denote one combat jump and the French Croix De Guerre Medal. Frank worked with the U.S. Government for twenty-five years as a logistician, managing combat vehicles.

Frank is survived by two daughters and one son, Marianne Zeltner of Irmo, SC, Connie Hudson of Williamsburg, VA and John Jeffrey of Atlanta, GA; three brothers, George Jeffrey of Church Road, VA, James Jeffrey of Lake Orion, MI, and Robert Jeffrey of Lonaconing, MD and two sisters, Florence Stafford, also of Lonaconing, MD and Edna Thomas of Midland, MD.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Northminster Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Wayne Meredith. Interment will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens, Amherst.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Whitten Monelison Chapel and other times at the residence.

Doris Davis Manning

Doris Davis Manning, 72, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, March 21, 2003 at her home. She was the wife of Robert Alvin Manning for 53 years. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Born June 23, 1930 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late John Wiley Davis and Lockie Dinkins Davis. Mrs. Manning retired from Central Virginia Community College where she was employed as a secretary for twenty-five years. She was a member of Fort Hill United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Manning was preceded in death by: a son; Brian N. Manning on Jan. 5, 2002 and by three sisters; her twin; Norris D. Simons and Jearldean D. Cheatham and Gwendolyn D. Mayberry.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by: two sons; John A. Manning and Michael W. Manning, a daughter; Debra M. Miller and her husband, Gary; five grandchildren; Christina Miller, Cynthia Castaldo and husband Nick, Jason Manning, Robert Manning and Bryan Manning, three great grandchildren; Chase Manning, Michael Castaldo and Allyson Miller, a brother; John W. Davis, Jr. and his wife Margaret Ann, three sisters; Gladys D. Rush, Anna Mae D. Lipscomb and Jacqueline D. Gilbert all of Lynchburg and a brother-in-law; Lester Simons of Vinton.

The family wishes to thank Pastor Cannon, Janet Hawkins and everyone at Fort Hill United Methodist Church for their support and prayers.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 24, 2003 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Reverend Glen H. Cannon. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the family home.

Meara “Linda” Rigsby Gallaher

Meara “Linda” Rigsby Gallaher, 54, of Madison Heights, passed away Monday, November 10, 2003 in the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville. She was the wife of Frank D. Gallaher.

Born April 21, 1949 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of Maxine Elliott Rigsby of Madison Heights and the late Warren Gaston Rigsby. Mrs. Gallaher was the former Chief Financial Officer with Avatec Solution of Virginia Beach and a member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband and mother, Linda is survived by her son, Jamison Lee Gallaher and his wife, Brandy and her brother, Johnny L. Rigsby and his wife, Jeanne, all of Madison Heights.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 13, 2003 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. L. Grant Carter, III. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home of her mother, 376 Amelon Road, Madison Heights.

Brenda Gail Miller

Brenda Gail Miller, 49, of Madison Heights, passed away, Wednesday, September 22, 2004. She was the wife of Dennis M. Miller.

Born December 1, 1954, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late James Payton Floyd and Thelma Floyd Miller.

Mrs. Miller was retired from the Old Dominion Box Company and was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Ann Floyd Goodbar.

Other survivors include a daughter, Tammy Loving and her husband Robert and their children, Travis Wolf and Madeline, step daughter, Joan Campbell and husband Ernest and one step son, David Miller, all of Madison Heights, one sister, Callie Floyd and a brother, James “Bo” Floyd, both of Monroe, three nieces; Donna, Missy and Lolly, nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. today, Friday, September 24, 2004 at Whitten Monelison chapel by the Reverend Glynn Coleman.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Tammy Loving.
