Virginia Vest Mahone
Virginia Vest Mahone, 80, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2002 in the Lynchburg Health and Rehab Center. She was the wife of the late Walter Wingfield Mahone.
Born July 29, 1921 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Paul Boyd and Mary Stinnett Vest. Mrs. Mahone was retired from Craddock & Terry Shoe Corporation. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Patrick O’Conner Mahone, one sister, Alice V. Ballowe, and one brother, Paul Vest
Mrs. Mahone is survived by two sons, Daniel W. Mahone and his wife, Tina and Walter V. Mahone and his wife, Sheila, all of Lynchburg; one daughter, Kay M. Derrick and her husband, Doug of Forest; one sister, Joyce Pavick of Lynchburg; thirteen grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Fort Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. Charlie Harbin. .
The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m. today at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Ruth “Granny” Drinkard Armes
Ruth “Granny” Drinkard Armes, 83, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, May 10, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Walter Vest Armes .
She was born February 16, 1921 in Lynchburg, the daughter of the late Roy L. Drinkard and the late Lillie May Newton Drinkard. Mrs. Armes was a member of Timberlake United Methodist Church and a former member of Memorial Christian Church. She retired from J. C. Penney after 42 years of employment, and was currently employed for the Gilded Pineapple / College Grille.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Gaylor and Ethel Cunningham.
Mrs. Armes is survived by her son, Joseph “Benny” Armes and wife Bonnie of Forest; two granddaughters, Robin Lee and husband Rodney and Pamela Armes both of Forest; a very special great granddaughter, Peyton Lee of Forest; three sisters, Thelma Armes of Burkeville, Margaret Tilley of Blackstone and Nancy Dixon of Amelia; four brothers, Jerry Drinkard and George Drinkard both of Burkeville, Roy Drinkard, Jr. of Farmville and Jimmy Drinkard of Amelia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, including a special cousin Malcolm Drinkard.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 13, 2004 at Timberlake United Methodist Church by Rev. Larry Davies and Rev. H. W. “Buddy” Westbrook. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
Family visitation will be Wednesday from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence of her son, 476 Poplar Forest Dr., Forest.

Eunice Burley Flaherty
Eunice Burley Flaherty, 79, of Evington, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2006. She was the wife, of the late Thomas Earl Flaherty, Sr.
Born February 2, 1926, in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Peyton Washington Burley and Susie Shrader Burley.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris Burley Hudson and a brother, Lewis Burley.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Newport and fiancé, Kevin Severson, of Maryland and a son, Thomas E. Flaherty, Jr., of Madison Heights; nephew, Charles Morse, four grandchildren, Michael Newport, Shelley Paddy, Ashley D. Flaherty and Thomas R. Flaherty, six great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday, January 13, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel by Dr. Timothy Madison. Interment will take place in Tudor Hall cemetery, “Sardis cemetery”.
The family will receive friends tonight at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m.

Lois Chenault DuPriest
Lois Chenault DuPriest, 79, of Lynchburg, died Friday June 7, 2002 at Avante' of Lynchburg.
She was the wife of the late James William "Joe" DuPriest who died April 11, 2002. Born in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Chenault and Florence Mae Lindsey Chenault. Mrs. DuPriest was a retired field service manager with First Colony Life Insurance Company, and was a member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, and past president of the Episcopal Church Women.
She is survived by her sons: James W. DuPriest and wife, Winnie of Parkland, FL. and Gary L. DuPriest and wife, JoAnne of Lynchburg; grandchildren: Read Thompson DuPriest, Elizabeth Hunter DuPriest Huber, Molly Anne DuPriest and Christopher Lee DuPriest.
A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church at a date to be announced.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 4321 Fort Ave.

Alice Stewart Wright
Alice Stewart Wright, 77, of 143 Wells Road, Madison Heights, passed away Thursday, April 03, 2003 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the wife of Henry Boggs Wright, Sr.
Mr. and Mrs. Wright celebrated 60 years together, November 8, 2002.
Born April 16, 1925 in Big Island, she was the daughter of the late Guy Everett and Elsie Jones Stewart. She was a member of College Hill Baptist Church and a 50 year member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Wright was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death two sisters, Thelma Khan and Inez Woods and one brother, Everett Stewart.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Wright is survived by her son, H. Boggs Wright, Jr. and his wife, Susan of Springfield; daughter, Nita W. Hulick and her husband, Scott of Burke; sister, Ora S. Cofflin of Rustburg; six grandchildren, Angela Corvin and her husband, Anthony, Russell Wright, Amy Marshall and her husband, Mark, Stewart Hulick, Erin Wright, and Scotty Hulick and three great-grandchildren, Amanda Marshall, Adam Marshall, and Jacob Corvin.
Private burial, Monday, April 7, 2003 in Briarwood Memorial Gardens, Amherst.

Essex Euclide Burks
Essex Euclide Burks, 71, of Lynchburg, went home to be with his Lord, Friday August 1, 2003. He was the beloved husband of Barbara Dawson Burks for thirty five years.
Born January 31, 1932 in Big Island, he was a son of the late Harry Douglas Burks and Carrie Nichols Burks, and was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew Douglas Burks, and a sister, Bertie Christine Trail.
Mr. Burks was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving on board the U.S.S. Oriskany, the first aircraft carrier to navigate around Cape Horn; he was a devoted member of Inglewood Baptist Church for over thirty five years, serving in a number of church functions, including being a Deacon and member of the choir; he loved the outdoors, especially fishing and was an avid golfer. Mr. Burks was a skilled craftsman with woodworking. He retired from Georgia Pacific after fourty four years of service.
He was loved by many, and was an excellent Pa Pa !
In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by his children, Dennis Craig Burks and his wife Jean of Maryland, Carolyn Denise Burks Mignogna and her husband Gary of Lynchburg, Deborah S. Mackey of Roanoke, Robert Steven Smith of Lynchburg, Lynn S. Hover and her husband Bob of Rustburg, and Martin Craig Smith and his fiancee’ Kelly of Lynchburg; one sister, Edith B. Cobb of Lynchburg; fourteen grandchildren, Brittany Burks, Bethany Burks, Kristin Mignogna, Benjamin Mignogna, Timothy Burton Wilson, Jr., Kelly L. Wilson, Melanie R. Wilson, Michael S. Smith, Melissa S. Overstreet, Chadam J. Hover, Andrew W. Hover, Chelsea M. Hover, Samena A. Smith, and Brian Craig Smith; four great-grandchildren, Taylor J. Gabriel, Austin C. Gabriel, Morgan Olivia Gabriel, and Robert D. Burks Overstreet; also a number of loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral service and celebration of life, will be held at Inglewood Baptist Church, Monday August 4, 2003 at 1:00 p.m., by Pastor David Thurman, Pastor Kenny Wilson, Pastor Jim Stevens, and Pastor John Boyles. Burial will follow at Virginia Memorial Park, Bedford County, with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at the residence.

Ola Woodson Price
Ola Woodson Price, 89, of Lynchburg, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late John William Price, Sr., who passed away on March 10, 1999.
Born Sept. 1, 1915 in Pittsylvania Co., she was the daughter of the late Jesse Ephriam Woodson and the late Nannie Bailess Woodson. She had retired from the Lynchburg Hosiery Mill, the Blue Cross/Blue Shield office and VA Baptist Hospital. Mrs. Price was an active life long member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a former Sunday school teacher for over 40 years.
Mrs. Price is survived by: a son, John William Price, Jr., of Dayton, OH; two grandchildren: Jennifer Innis and husband Ryan and Timothy Price both of Dayton, OH; a great grandson, Liam Innis of Dayton, OH; two brothers: Aubrey W. Woodson and James E. Woodson both of Hurt; three sisters: Christine W. Rowland of Hurt, Margaret W. Moorefield of Myrtle Beach, SC and Louise W. Gardner of Lynchburg.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a. m., Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel by Rev. Frank Avery. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive from 7 – 8:30 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.

Grace Leedy Camper
Grace Leedy Camper, 93, of Forest, died Saturday, December 25, 2004 at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Born November 8, 1911 in Smyth Co., she was the daughter of the late Ernest Montgomery Leedy and the late Mary Foglesong Leedy. Mrs. Camper was a 1962 graduate of Lynchburg College with a B.S. degree in education and had retired from the Bedford Co. school system. She was a member of Forest United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star 145.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Camper was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Nyal Camper; and by two brothers: Guy M. Leedy and Everette W. Leedy.
She is survived by one son, N. Dwight Camper and wife Jane of Clemson, SC; two granddaughters: Britney C. Barnes and husband Thomas of Greenville, SC, and Shea C. Mayberry and husband Brandon of Newport Beach, CA; two sisters: Hazel L. Templeton of Bluefield, WV, and Verna L. Worley of Rural Retreat; and by two sisters-in-law: Rae Leedy of Bluefield, WV, and Ruth Leedy of Lincolnton, NC.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004 at Virginia Memorial Park by the Rev. Charles Langley and the Rev. Pat Simon.

Carolyn Sue Tyler Christian
Carolyn Sue Tyler Christian, 54, of Amherst, died Monday, February 13, 2006 at the home of her daughter, Teresa. She was the wife of the late Clarence James Christian.
Born September 1, 1951 in Nelson County, she was a daughter of the late John Berry and Florence Hamilton Tyler. Mrs. Christian was an employee of Fairmont Crossing in Amherst and a member of Temple Baptist Church in Madison Heights.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin and Roy Tyler and one sister, Janet Coleman.
Carolyn is survived by four children, Clarence Alvin Christian and his wife, Jennifer, Teresa C. Eagle and her husband, Johnny, Jr., Timothy James Christian and his wife, Cheryl, and Pamela C. Cash and her husband, Cecil, Jr., all of Amherst; three brothers, Bobby Tyler and his wife, Carolyn of West Point, Vernon Tyler and his wife, Connie of Madison Heights, and Curtis Tyler and his wife, Mary of Rustburg; two sisters, Margie Dunbar and her husband, R.K. of Augusta, GA and Ruth Murphy and her husband, Roger of Goode and six grandchildren, Johnny, III, Adrienne, A.J., Cecil, III, James, and Joyclyn.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2006 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by Dr. Michael Fitzgerald, Pastor of Clifford Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Amherst cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, Teresa, 952 Cherry Hill Road, Amherst.

Judy A. Whiting Myers
Judy A. Whiting Myers, 52, of Amherst, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2002.
Born July 25, 1949 in Galion, Ohio, she was the daughter of Jan Stauffer Whiting of Amherst and the late Jack T. Whiting. Judy was a self employed Home Health Aid and a member of Clifford Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother, Judy is survived by two sons, Lyndon “Tad” Myers and his wife, Stephania of Amherst and Matthew L. Myers of Vacaville, CA and their father, Lyndon L. Myers of Frederick, MD; two sisters, Sharon Whiting of Chicago, IL and Wendy Paris and her husband, Bennie of Lynchburg; three brothers, John Whiting and his wife, Bonnie of Tyler, TX, Mark Whiting and his wife, Alicia of Richmond, and Richard Whiting of Dallas, TX; one niece, Stacey Foster and her husband, Joshua; four nephews, Mike Mahnke and his fiance’, Michelle, Timothy Whiting, Steven Whiting, and Jake Paris; her twin granddaughters, Kimberly and Tiffany Myers and a great niece, Hannah Foster.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Clifford Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzgerald.
