Dorothy R. Pryor, 75, Bedford
Dorothy Kathryn Roup Pryor, 75, of Bedford, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004 in Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born in Watson, MO on Oct. 25, 1928, a daughter of the late Edmund Joseph Roup and Olive Kelly Roup.
Mrs. Pryor was a parishioner of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edmund J. Roup, Jr.
Mrs. Pryor is survived by her husband, Ted W. "Bill" Pryor; two daughters, Kathryn Pryor Garvin of Richmond and Teresa Pryor Wilkerson and her husband, Jerry of Bedford; three grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other dear family members and friends.

Christine T. Ruff, 54, Thaxton
Christine Teasley Ruff, 54, of Thaxton, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at her residence. She was born in Norton, VA on Oct. 18, 1949, a daughter of the late Charles Elmer Teasley and Martha Magline Thacker Teasley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Teasley; three sisters, Sue Greene, Charlotte Teasley and Annie Teasley; and a brother-in-law, William Greene.
Christine is survived by her husband, Robert C. Ruff; a stepson, Randall Ruff of Michigan; two stepdaughters, Rochelle Kociemba and her husband, Frank and Renee Czapla and her husband, Dave all of Michigan; two brothers, Pete Thacker and Richard Teasley both Norton, VA; a sister, Rose Younce of Wise, VA; four step grandchildren, Jonathan Kociemba, Amanda Kociemba, Samantha Czapla and Shannon Czapla; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Carder-Tharp Funeral Home Chapel Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004 with Minister Ron Wilson officiating.
Interment was in White Oak Gap cemetery, Norton VA, Monday, August 2, 2004.

Malcolm R. Stinnette, 71, Lynchburg
Malcolm Rudolph "Rudy" Stinnette, 71, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Lipscomb Stinnette.
Born in Bedford County, April 15, 1933, he was a son of the late Frank Dillard Stinnette, Sr. and Lula Mays Stinnette and was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Mays Stinnette.
He was retired from Columbia Gas and was a US Navy Veteran.
He is survived by a brother, Frank Dillard Stinnette, Jr. of Bedford; two sisters, Doris S. Scanlon of Coeur D'Alene, ID, Eloise S. Wyatt of Shelton, CT; a number of nieces and nephews; special friends, Mary and Billy Gaddy and Virginia Burton.
A funeral service was held Saturday Oct. 9, 2004 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service by the Dr. Rick Ewing with burial following in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Louise C. Noland, 89, Lynchburg
Louise Cales Noland, 89, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004 at her residence.
Born Oct. 22, 1914 in Hinton, West Virginia, Mrs. Noland was a resident of Bedford since 1960.
She was devoted to the music ministry of Main Street United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for some 25 years. For a number of years she participated in the Lions Club musicals. She was a member of the Eastern Star.
The widow of James Hugh Noland, Mrs. Noland is survived by a son, James R. Noland and Mary Anne, of Herndon; three grandsons; she is also survived by one sister, Betty Brown of Hopewell.
Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Main Street United Methodist Church in Bedford.
A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004 at Main Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Milton E. Marks and Rev. Timothy R. Gerde officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood cemetery.
Samuel M. Barton, 80, Walnut Cove, NC
Samuel McKinley Barton, 80, of Walnut Cove, NC, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004 in the Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born on May 25, 1924 in Bland County, a son of the late William M. Barton and Fanny T. Barton.
In addition to his parents, Samuel was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer J. Barton and Richard Barton and one sister, Thelma Arrington.
Samuel is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy H. Barton; a son, Samuel M. Barton, Jr. and his wife, Sherrie of New Bern, NC; a daughter, Barbara A. Heath and her husband, Richard of Germanton, NC; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, William Barton of Mullens, WV and Charles Barton of Crumpler, WV; four sisters, Ann Farley of Princeton, WV; Betty McPeake of Daniels, WV; Margaret Goode of Gap Mills, WV and Geraldine Thomas of Palatka, FL.
A funeral service was conducted Monday, Oct. 11, 2004 at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Carl Douglass officiating.
Floyd G. Carter, Jr., 67, Roanoke
Floyd Gilmer Carter, Jr., 67, of Roanoke, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 29, 1937 in Bedford County, a son of the late Floyd Gilmer Carter, Sr. and Alice Graves Dooley Carter.
Floyd is survived by five brothers, Jimmy L. Carter and his wife, Diane of Montvale, Wayne C. Carter and his wife, Joyce Ann of Thaxton, Daniel Ray Carter and his wife, Anna of Montvale, Fred J. Carter of Lynchburg and Joe S. Croft of Bakersfield, CA; three sisters, Dorothy M. Orange and her husband, George of Thaxton, Joanne M. Custer and her husband, James of Roanoke and Donna C. Boothe of Bedford; one step-sister, Shelby A. Spiva and her husband, Randy of Mooresville, NC; several nieces and nephews and one great nephew.
A graveside service was conducted Monday, Oct. 11, 2004 at the Dooley Family cemetery with Rev. Burks Ruff and Rev. Raymond Ruff officiating.
Elaine F. Abbott, 83, Lynchburg
Elaine Falls Abbott, 83, of Lynchburg, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004.
Born in Bedford County on Dec. 28, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Floyd L. Falls and Minnie Roop Falls and was the widow of Chester Hawthorne Abbott.
Mrs. Abbott was retired from the Wilco Uniform Co. and was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons; Rudolph Abbott and his wife, Carol, of Bedford, and Carroll Abbott and his wife, Cathy, of Goode; two grandchildren; five brothers and sisters, Sherly Falls, Bernard Falls, James Falls, Christine Falls and Mae Massie, all of Lynchburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters, Carl Falls, Alton Falls, Muriel Lindsey and Faye Massie.
The family would like to send a special thank you to her dear friends, Margaret Mayhew and Gregory "Bubba" Mayhew and also her dear neighbors.
A graveside funeral service was conducted Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Virginia Memorial Park, with the Rev. Dan Manley officiating.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Campbell County Rescue Squad.
Peggy M. Harvey, 75, Appomattox
Peggy Moses Harvey, 75, of Appomattox, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004. She was the loving wife of the late Thomas C. Harvey, Jr. Peggy Lee was born Feb. 25, 1929 in Appomattox. She was the daughter of the late Don Moses and Willie Smith Moses. She lived her entire life in the Appomattox community.
She led an extremely fulfilling life. She was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church, where she sung in the choir in her youth, and belonged to Sunday School and Prayer Circles. Peggy was a joyous person, a wonderful mother and a faithful friend to many. She loved playing the piano, and listening to music. She spent her years surrounded by her cats. She enjoyed gardening and never forgot a birthday. She took pride in sending cards for all sorts of occasions. Her hearty laugh and special hugs will be missed by many.
She is survived by her children, Sandra Kaye, and her husband Col. Robert Cranston of Smith Mountain Lake, T.C. Harvey III and his wife Linda of Appomattox, William E. Harvey of Appomattox, and Don M. Harvey of Blacksburg. She leaves seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, William S. Moses of Roanoke and his wife Doyne, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in dearth by a brother, Don P. Moses of Baltimore, and a special friend, Archer Webb of Appomattox.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Lynchburg Health and Rehabilitation Service for the loving care they extended to Peggy.
Graveside services were held at the Harvey Family cemetery, at the home of Harriette and Ralph Robinson. A reception followed at the old Harvey homeplace.

Cline R. King, 93, Marietta, GA
Mr. Cline R. King, 93, formerly of Bedford and Roanoke, died Wednesday, October 6, 2004 in Marietta, GA.
He was the widow of Bettie W. King of Farmville, and teacher of Bedford County Schools for many years. Mr. King was most recently a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church in Roanoke. He had been a long time member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Bedford where he served on the Administrative Board, Finance Committee and was President of the Men's Club.
Mr. King retired from Sam Moore Furniture Co., Bedford in 1974 after 28 years of employment at both Christiansburg and Bedford Plants as Purchasing Agent. He graduated from Emory & Henry College and attended New York University for two summer sessions. He taught school at Christiansburg High School, was employed one year with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co; and two years with Hercules Powder Co. Bedford then volunteered in the US Navy, in which he served four years as a Lieutenant Senior Grade with duties aboard ship in both the Atlantic and South Pacific theaters of World War II.
Cline leaves two brothers, his twin, Clyde W. King of Marietta, GA, and Elbert King of Elizabeth, NJ; two sisters, Pearl Kehoe of Ft. Plantation, FL and Barbara Blount of Woodstock, VA. And he also leaves several nephews and nieces.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004 in Greenwood cemetery.
David W. Kirby, 43, Bedford
David Wayne Kirby, age 43 of Bedford, passed away Monday, Oct. 11, 2004 at his residence. He was born June 7, 1961 in Bedford County, a son of the late Jackie Lee Kirby and Stella Parker Kirby.
He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Susan Kirby, Bedford; a sister and brother-in-law, Della and John Karnes, Bedford; two nephews, Carlton and Johnathan Karnes; an uncle and aunt, Marvin and Iris Kirby, Bedford.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004 at 11 a.m. from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford, by the Rev. Geoff Hubbard. Interment will follow in the Kirby Family cemetery.
Harold L. Trent, 72, Bedford
Harold Loyd Trent, 72, of Forest, died Tuesday Oct. 5, 2004 at Medical Care Center.
He was the beloved husband of Barbara Overstreet Trent.
Born Dec. 6, 1931 in Bedford County, he was the son of the late Loyd Nelson Trent and the late Phyllis (Rachel) Hawkins Trent.
Mr. Trent was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired driver for Preston Trucking, and a member of Living Word Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by his daughters, Becky Sue Hooper and her husband Tim and Samantha Ann Craft and her husband William all of Forest; four
grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
A graveside funeral service was conducted Friday, Oct. 8, 2004 at Virginia Memorial Park, by the Rev. Marvin Suitt, pastor of Living Word Baptist Church.
Deborah M. Ferguson, 52, Vinton
Deborah McNew "Debbie" Ferguson, 52, of Vinton, passed away Monday, Oct. 4, 2004.
She was a 1969 graduate of William Byrd High School and was preceded in death by her parents, Dennison and Louise McNew.
Debbie is survived by her husband, Kelly Ferguson; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Amy Ferguson of Bedford Co.; two grandsons; sisters, Connie Wood and her husband, Larry of Botetourt Co., Kathy Byrnes and her husband, Paul of Martinsville; four nieces; three nephews; mother-in-law, Della Ferguson; sisters-in-law, Darlene Williams, Barbara Nickell; and two extended family members whom she helped to raise, Barry and Mark Brown.
A funeral service was held Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, with Pastor Mike Ward officiating.
Interment followed in Mt. View cemetery.

Milton Hanson, 82, Fairless Hills, PA
Milton "Bill" Hanson, 82, of Fairless Hills, PA and formerly of Huddleston, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004 at his residence.
Born in Belfield, ND, he was a former long time resident of Lower Makefield Township, PA retiring to Huddleston and most recently of Fairless Hills, PA. Mr. Hanson was a retired construction superintendent and a member for over 50 years of Brick Layers Union #5, Bordentown, NJ. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a member of Patmos United Methodist Church, Huddleston.
Son of the late Chris and Marian Whitmore Hanson, he is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Ann Fowler Hanson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond H. and Sheri Hanson of Thousand Oaks, CA and Chris and Carol Hanson of Yardley, PA; two grandchildren; twin great grandsons and two step-granddaughters.
A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced.
