RALPH B. KING
Ralph Butler King, devoted Father, husband, and friend peacefully passed through “those Golden Gates”, Monday, March 7, 2011 at his home surrounded by family. Born in Suffolk, Va. on November 25, 1925 he was predeceased by his parents M. B. and Clairine Ward King, two brothers, Winfred King and Rufus Powell and his wife of 46 years, Alice Carter King.
Left to cherish his life and the memories abound are his daughter, Faye King Milteer of Alma, AR. (Gary); son Kenneth Butler King (Tricia); sister Christine King Nelms all of Suffolk, Va. A loving grandfather and a great grandfather he leaves behind four grandchildren, Tracy Sapp, Trina Shuey, Health Milteer, and Taylor King; and six great grandchildren, Brittany and Mikayla Sapp, Hanna and Olivia Shuey and Ellie Milteer and Emily Dodd.
Also to cherish his life in his later years was his additional family. Leaving behind was his devoted wife of 11 years, Mary Britt King and her children, Bessie Mae Mathias (Stewart), Wayne Britt (Sandy) and Faye Bright (Arthur) along with six grand children who called him Paw Paw.
Mr. King served in the U. S. Army in the Europe Theater and retired after 35 years of service with Virginia Power Company, Suffolk division as an Auger Truck driver and Operator. To his co-workers he was always called “Clem”. Known for his master vegetable and flower gardens Mr. King was a master at growing any and all things but what he loved most was watching it grow and then giving it away.
A funeral service will be held at 11 A. M. Thursday, March 10, 2011 in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory, 509 W. Washington Street with burial in Holly Lawn cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 7 P. M. to 9 P. M. at the funeral home. . CLAYTON E. HENDERSON
Clayton Eugene Henderson died March 5, 2011. He was the son of the late Mary and Dwight Henderson.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie Henderson; daughter, Becky Criner and husband Todd of Suffolk; two sisters and one brother of Lewiston, IL; five grandchildren, Danielle Atkins, Mary Curran, Jennifer and Zack Campbell and Mason Criner and four great-grandchildren.

SHIRLEY ANN BABB
Shirley Ann Babb, 73, a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, went to be with the Lord February 28, 2011 at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. She was the daughter of the late George Smith and Anne Boone, and the widow of Clarence Lee Babb, Sr. Shirley was a long time member of Wilroy Baptist Church, and worked as a Pharmacy Associate for Rx 4 Less.
Survivors include her sons, Clarence L. Babb, Jr. and wife, Judy, of Raleigh, NC, Wayne Babb and wife, Susan, of Suffolk; daughter, Teresa Roberson and husband, John, of Suffolk; grandchildren, April L. Cutchins, Christopher K. Babb, Justin R. Babb, Daniel H. Roberson; six great grandchildren; sister, Barbara O’Neal and husband, Richard; and brother, William Boone and wife, Vonda.
A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Wilroy Baptist Church, 306 Williams Road, Suffolk, VA, 23434 by the Rev. JOHN F. PERRY
John Frederick Perry, 69, went to be with the lord February 25, 2011. He was born in Nansemond County to the late Mary Estelle and Zachariah Perry. He was predeceased by his brother Jerry Milton Perry.
John was a life long member of Liberty Spring Christian Church and was a truck driver for Perry Lumber Co.
He is survived by his son Jeffrey A Perry and wife Mary Denise of Sunbury, NC; sister Brenda Kay Davis of Suffolk; brother George Earl Perry of Chesapeake; two grand children Jeffrey Scott Perry and Lena Mariah Perry; many nieces and nephews in Richmond, Suffolk, and Northeastern NC.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Liberty Spring Christian Church, 4213 Whaleyville Blvd. by the Rev Allen Lancaster with burial in the church cemetery. J. RUDOLPH CARTER
James Rudolph Carter, 80, went to be with the lord February 22, 2011. He was born in Nansemond County to the late Grace and James M. Carter. He was predeceased by his brother Randy L. Carter.
Rudolph was retired from the Ford Motor Company and from the Suffolk City Schools. He was a member of Trinity Christian Church where he served as a deacon and was a member of the TPA Association.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy R. Carter; son, Wayne Carter and wife Rose of Southern Shores, NC; grandchildren, Jon Carter and wife Nikki of Waipahu, HI, and Heather C. and husband Dustin Daniels of Southern Shores, NC; great grand daughter, Breeze N. Daniels; a great grand son on the way; several nieces and nephews with one special niece, Cindy Luter; and sister-in-law, Nancy Carter.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington Street, Suffolk by the Rev. Byron McCreary, Rev. FRANCES (DEDE) JOHNSON
Frances (Dede) Rhodes Hutter Johnson, 65, died February 20 at the home of her daughter and care giver, Jennifer Blythe, in Driver (Suffolk), Va. She was born on May 6. 1945 to Jim and Polly Hutter.
She was predeceased by her husband Ron of Franklin, OH and her parents. Left to cherish her memory, are daughter Jennifer, her husband Rob, and grandsons Kyle and Justin, and sons Ronnie Johnson and Jamie Johnson; granddaughters Lauren and Emma Johnson; brother Jimmy and his wife Judy of Williamsburg: and sisters, Laura and her husband Melvin of Lancaster, PA, and Mary and her husband Ralph of Houston, TX. She will also be missed by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Born in Atlanta, GA, Dede moved to Lynchburg as a young girl. She graduated from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg and Stratford College in Danville. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Lynchburg before moving to Virginia Beach as a young adult.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated, followed by a private Memorial Service at “The Beach”.
VERLIE E. ASKEW
Verlie Edith Askew, 62, went to be with the lord February 23, 2011 at her home in Monroe, NC. She is the daughter of the late Lillie and William Butler.
She is survived by her husband Donnie Askew of Monroe, NC.
A graveside funeral service will be Friday, February 25, 2011 at 2 PM in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens by Pastor Denis L. Hughes.
LAWRENCE M. WATSON
Lawrence M. Watson, 76, died May 7, 2011. A native of Worcester, MA he was the son of the late Eileen A. Keeney and Walter C. Watson. He was predeceased by a son Robert (Bobby) Watson and a brother Walter P. Watson. He served in the Navy from 1954 to 1976 and retired as an Aviation Ordinance Man Senior Chief Petty Officer. Lawrence retired from Naval Aviation Depot in 1996. He was a member of the American Legion, Fleet Reserve Association Post 40 and the Briar Patch Hunt Club.
Survivors include his wife, Carol G. Watson, two daughters, Margaret(Peggy) Davis and Linda Watson Glenum and husband Donald; two sons, Michael L. Watson and wife Donna and Kurt Watson and wife Debra; two sisters, Margaret Amiot and husband Joseph and Eileen Alex; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 11 AM in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington Street, Suffolk, by Father Piotr Bialkowski, followed by burial in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the funeral home. RICHARD A. MAILLE
Richard Addison Maille, 70, passed away May 5, 2011 at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk. He was the son of the late Addison and Ruth Maille. He was a wonderful father and husband and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife, Lois; daughters, Tina Shaver and husband, Henry, of Charleston, SC, Terri Sheehan and husband, Brian, of Charleston, SC; sons, Ray Baldwin and wife, Claire, of Schenectady, NY, Addison Maille and wife, LeAnne, of Greensboro, NC, Scott Baldwin of Corapeake, NC; eight grandchildren; brother, Robert Maille and wife, Barbara, of Chesterfield, MO; and sister, Janice Bullard and husband, David, of Gansevoort, NY.

WILLIAM M. COX
William Melvin “Bill” Cox, 81, passed away April 29, 2011 in Florida.
Bill was born in Gloversville, New York on March 29, 1930, the son of Melvin and Albina Cox. He was a graduate of M.I.T. with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. In 1951, Bill married
Virginia Blair of Suffolk, Virginia and worked for Curtis Wright in New Jersey.
After three years they moved back to Gloversville and Bill worked with his father in the leather industry. In 1972, Bill and his family moved to Longwood, Florida where he started Cox Corporation, a custom home building company. His son, Bill Jr., joined him in the business in 1978 and Cox Corporation continues on today. Bill retired in the mid 90’s but he and Jenny remained as directors of the company.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jenny; three children, Kim, Bill and Jeff; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Courtney, Blair, Owen and Jonathan; and two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Carly.
Bill's passions in life were his faith and his family. He actively enjoyed tennis, golf, snow and water skiing, and walking by the ocean at New Smyrna Beach, FL.
Funeral services will be held at R. W. Baker & Company Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be at Holly Lawn cemetery in Suffolk. The family will receive relatives and friends Friday, May 6th between 6:00 P.M. and 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
RUTH M. BICKHAM
Ruth Mary Bickham, 88, died peacefully May 1, 2011. She was born in Eldorado Arkansas on August 21, 1922. Her parents were Erman Daniel Woodburn and Ida Black Woodburn from Tyler County WV. She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin Daryl Bickham.
She is survived by her son, Ed Bickham and wife Carolyn Marks Bickham, two grandchildren Lon Edwin Bickham and Joanna Felts Bickham.
She was a loving mother and traveled the world with her husband who was a construction piping superintendent.
Services will be private. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St. is handling the arrangements.

MAUDE EFFLER TRUMP
Maude Effler Trump, 87, went to be with the Lord April 30, 2011. She was the daughter of Rhodila and Carmen Effler. She was predeceased by her husband Hersey Wade Trump, Jr.
Maude lived a simple but meaningful life. From her childhood years in Tennessee to her adult years in Virginia, her determination and desire to persevere allowed her to overcome many of life’s challenges.
Maude was one who believed in Jesus Christ, held His promises in her honest and good heart and had much good fruit as a result. Anyone who knew Maude loved her and in this day and age, that’s fruit. She was a member of Lebanon Christian Church in Newport News.
Maude will be greatly missed by her son, Rev. H. Wade Trump, III, her daughter-n-law, Lisa and three grandchildren, Christopher, Mitchell and Jessica.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 12 noon, Tuesday, May 3, 2011 in Holly Lawn cemetery. Family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory from 11 to 11:45 Tuesday morning.
BARBARA F. JONES
Barbara Faye Jones, 68, went to be with the Lord April 30, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Grace and Alton Fowler, and predeceased by her mother in law Louise Jones and brother in law Jimmy Boyette.
Survivors include her husband Marvis Jones; brother Roger Fowler and wife Betty, sister Deborah Boyette; nieces and nephews Kimberly and Jesse Bass, Julie and Brandon McMahan, Todd and Jenny Fowler, Chad and Dana Fowler, and Chris Reavis; great nieces and nephews Cooper Bass, Ethan McMahan, Emily and Peyton Fowler, and Gavin and Bryce Fowler; father in law Marvis G. Jones, Sr. and sister in law Norma and Johnny Reavis. She is also survived by her loving cats and dogs.
A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 2PM in the R.W. Baker & Co Funeral Home and Crematory by Bob Jackson with burial in Somerton United Methodist Church cemetery. SPARKS B. HOLLAND
Sparks Brewer Holland, 92, died April 28, 2011. She was the widow of R. Wilkerson Holland, with whom she spent 68 wonderful years. She is predeceased by her son, Robert.
She was a teacher, a minister, a wife, and a mother to five children and numerous other children claimed her. Sparks touched a lot of lives and was loved by many.
Survivors include her children Kathryn Holland, Debi Lee, Margaret Guinn, David Holland and wife, Kelly; her adopted daughters, Pat Stanley and Mary William Baines; seven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

LYNORE DACOSTA WARD
Lynore daCosta Ward, 64, passed away peacefully April 22, 2011. Lyn was the wife of James Edwin "Ed" Ward. She was the daughter of the late Allan D. and Eleanore M. daCosta and was predeceased by her sister, Yvonne daCosta.
Born in New Jersey, she was a graduate of Mahwah High School, in NJ, the University of South Alabama, and Creighton University. She was a teacher at the Pruden Vo-Tech Center in Suffolk.
Besides her loving husband; Lyn is survived by her sister, Alana Wilson and husband Darold of Lake Oswego, OR; aunt, Gail "Sis" Morgan; nephew and his family, Christopher John Simons Jr. and wife, Kimberely, and their sons, Christopher John Simons, III, and Nicholas Francis Simons of Lake Oswego, OR.
A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 4:00 pm in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., by the Rev. Jud Ihlefield.
