Judith Tharlene Stacy, 65, of the Green Acres Estate of Pounding Mill, died June 4, 2006.
Born April 24, 1941 in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Mildred Collins Hibbitts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Wanda Snyder.
Survivors: husband of 48 years, Curtis Stacy; sons, Gregory Allen Stacy of Pounding Mill, Timothy Curtis Stacy and wife, Lori, of Spindale, NC; daughters, Anita Tharlene Parton and husband, Gary, of Asheboro, NC, Cynthia Lynn Stacy Earls of Pounding Mill; brothers, James Hibbitts and wife, Margaret, of Anniston, AL, Donald Hibbitts, Jr. and wife Glenda, of Dunnellon, FL; sisters, Mary Frances Cordle and husband, Melvin, of Pounding Mill, Brenda Byrd of Salisbury, NC; and grandchildren, T.C. Stacy, Tanya Stacy, Tristan Earls, Ryan Parton, Meagan Earls, Michael Parton, Carmen Earls and Ian Vandyke.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. June 7 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Evangelist Mike Trent officiating.
Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Kit Carson Stiltner
Kit Carson Stiltner, 85, of Belfast, died June 1, 2006 after a brief illness in Russell County Medical Center.
Born March 19, 1921 in Grundy, he was a son of the late Lewis Stiltner and the late Martha Sweeny Stiltner.
He was a former coal miner and truck driver and was the owner of Stiltner’s Trailer Park in Belfast. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially working in his garden.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant son, Gregory; two step-sons, James and Johnny Foster; two brothers, Arlen and David Stiltner; one infant brother, William Stiltner; step-granddaughter, Jodi Ann Foster.

The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. June 3 in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Guy Harris and the Rev. Troy Harris officiating.
Burial followed in Russell Memorial cemetery.

Eunice W. Baldwin
Eunice Wade Baldwin, 102, of Doran, left for her heavenly home May 22, 2006 from Tazewell Community Hospital.
She was born Oct. 14, 1903 in Tazewell County to the late Walter and Molly Wade.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She devoted her entire life as a homemaker and mother to her eleven children. She was faithful to her church, her faith in God and her family. She was loved by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John G. Watts Baldwin; one daughter, Ola Gay Arnold; four sons, Bane, D.C., Norman and Shirl Baldwin; two brothers, Rufus "Peach" Wade and Carl Wade; two sisters, Edith Smith and Stella Gillespie; one granddaughter, Patty Jean Baldwin; and one great-granddaughter, Kimberly Diane Baldwin.
Survivors: daughters, Inez Kimbrell, widow of the late Don Kimbrell, of Raven, Ruth Meadows and husband, Ed, of Fredericktown, OH, Wanda Griffith and husband, Russell, of Richlands; sons, Ted Baldwin and wife, Pansy, of Cedar Bluff, Sherman Baldwin of Tazewell, Marty Baldwin of Doran; sisters, Gladys Boyd of Richlands, Vinnie Newberry of Newport News; 27 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; 18 great, great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great, great nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
A homegoing celebration was held at 2 p.m. May 26 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Eddie Baldwin, Rev. Danny Bostic and Rev. Clarence Lowe officiating.
Burial followed in the Tom Chambers cemetery at Shortt Gap.
Lonnie Caudill
Lonnie Caudill, 59, of New Castle and formerly from Tazewell Co. died May 14, 2006 in Salem.
He was born in Tazewell County Aug. 2, 1946 and was a son of the late Reed Caudill and Elva Wooldridge Caudill.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a former employee for Austin Maytag and Appliance in Roanoke and was a former employee of the Virginia Highway Department and was of the Protestant faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Thomas Caudill and Gordon Caudill.
Survivors: son, Michael Dale Caudill of Manassas; brothers, Harrison Caudill and wife, Maxine, of Roanoke, Jesse Caudill and wife, Emma, of Manassas; sisters, Marie Evans of Sterling, Cora Viers of Princeton, WV, Helen Martin and husband, Ray, of Cleveland, OH, Gail Shawver of Bluefield, VA, Betty Lester and husband, Johnny, of Louisa, Phyllis Cady and husband, Randy, of Dunlap, TN; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and special child in his life, Jamie Blankenship.
The funeral was conducted May 17 at 11 a.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, VA, with the Rev. Ray Amos officiating.
Burial followed in the Grandview Memory Gardens.
Graveside military rites were conducted by the VFW Memorial Post 9696, Bluefield, VA and the American Legion Post 14, Pocahontas.
Dolly Irene Compton
Dolly Irene Compton, 86, of the Hurricane Creek section of Davenport, departed this life May 25, 2006 at her home.
Born Oct. 9, 1919 in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late George and Tiny Ratliff Breeding.
A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of Rowe Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who spent her time enjoying all her special friends and neighbors and will be greatly missed by all of them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lewis Arthur Compton, who died August 15, 1990 and two infant sons.

Lillie Belle Hurley
Lillie Belle Hurley, 90, of North Tazewell, died May 22, 2006 at Tazewell Community Hospital in Tazewell.
Born Oct. 11, 1915 at Whitewood, she was a daughter of the late John M. Shelton and Ellen Stanley Shelton.
She was a member of the North Tazewell United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Floyd Hurley; one daughter, Shelby Scully; one grandson, Donald C. Moore, Jr.; five brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors: daughters, Gladys H. Moore of Lebanon, Joann Jenssen of Stafford; grandchildren, Debora M. Collins, Johnny Scully, Michael Moore, Stacey S. Collins, Susan M. Holmes, Kelly Moore, Letitia J. Huntington, James Moore, and Jocelyn J. Wirth; 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. May 25 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Allen Jessee officiating.
Entombment followed at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield, VA.

Harley P. Kinney
Harley P. Kinney, 74, of Palmetto, FL, and Tazewell, died Feb. 9, 2006.
Born Nov. 21, 1931 in Rogers City, MI, he was a son of the late Edward and Elsie Wenzel Kinney.
He came to Manatee County, FL in 1958 from Blacksburg. He graduated from Cass Technical High School in Detroit, MI. After serving in the Korean War in the 82nd Airborne, he graduated with a degree in architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg. Since the time of school superintendent J. Hartley Blackburn, he was architect for a number of schools in Manatee County as well as many local banks and residences. He was former president of Bradenton Country Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Laura Louise Kinney.
Survivors: wife of 52 years, Virginia VanDyke Kinney; son, Edward R. Kinney of Boulder, CO; daughters, Patricia (Nikola) Hrabar of Boca Raton, FL, Susanna (Randy) Coleman of Bristol, VA; and grandchildren, Christopher Coleman, Marcus Coleman, and Annie Mae Coleman, all of Bristol, VA.
A gathering of friends was held Feb. 11 from 5-7 p.m. at the Bradenton Country Club.
A memorial service was conducted at 11:30 a.m. May 27 at Maplewood cemetery in Tazewell with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Conley officiating.

Rachel Alafair Proffitt
Rachel Alafair Proffitt, 84, of Raven, died May 24, 2006 at the home of her daughter, Debbie Proffitt, in Richlands, following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Buchanan County and was the daughter of the late Reece and Clementine Keen, both Buchanan County natives.
She was a lifelong resident of this area and was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Maize Wilson; one brother, Wallace B. Keen; and one half brother, Milo Keen.
Survivors: husband, Raymond Miller Proffitt; daughters, Alma Whited and husband, Mack, of Rosedale, Debbie Proffitt of Richlands; sons, Johnny Proffitt and wife, Annie, of Pilgrim Knob, James Proffitt and wife, Diana, of Thompson Valley, Reece Proffitt and wife, Vicki, of Rowe, Mike Proffitt and wife, Bernice, of Feds Creek, KY; half sisters, Blanche Dexter of Columbus, OH, Alice Stiltner of Bland, June Lee of Keen Mountain; half brother, James Esau Keen of Keen Mountain; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Rodney Leon Proffitt
Rodney Leon Proffitt, 34, of Raven, died May 23, 2006.
Born Oct. 2, 1971 in Richlands, he was the son of Jimmie Proffitt of Raven and Elizabeth Gilbert of Cedar Bluff.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Amanda Leah Proffitt; maternal grandparents, John Gilbert and Juanita Brown; and paternal grandparents, Arch and Margie Proffitt.
Additional survivor: brother, Rusty Allen Proffitt of Raven.
Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. May 26 at Proffitt cemetery at Horton Ridge with Rev. James Dye officiating.

Lotus Berbert Reed
Lotus Berbert Reed, 97, of Bluefield, VA, died May 22, 2006 in a Goldsboro, NC, hospital.
Born in Pocahontas, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Ethel Myers Berbert.
She was a member of the Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church in Bluefield, VA and was a former employee at National Electric Coil Co. for 26 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Reed; stepmother, Laura Berbert Phipps; two brothers, Charles and Lewis Berbert; and one sister, Daris Wall.

Steve "Frog" Reynolds
Steve D. "Frog" Reynolds, 54, of Raven, died May 22, 2006 at his home.
Born July 4, 1951 in Clifton Farm, he was a son of the late Herman "Shade" Reynolds and Beulah Lester Reynolds.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and was formerly employed at Jewell Smokeless.
