Earnest Khale Wolfe

Earnest Khale Wolfe, 62, of Gaston, SC, formerly of Bristol, TN, went to be with the Lord Jan. 1, 2006.

Born Sept. 23, 1943 in Bristol, VA, he was a son of the late Ranson Ezra and Myrtle Wolfe.

He attended Mary Hughes High School, where he was an all-state basketball player. He attended ETSU until serving his country at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. during the Vietnam War. He was an assistant coach for the Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball teams at Airport High School in West Columbia, SC, for the past several years. He loved working with kids and teenagers. He was employed by PrintSouth Printing Company on Silstar Road in Springdale, SC, where he was much loved by the employees there.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Survivors: wife, Pamela Miller Wolfe; daughters, April Lynn Wolfe of Columbia, Heather Ann Ferro of Bel Air, MD; son, Taylor Aulden Wolfe of the home; grandchildren, Jacob Ferro, Chase Ferro, and Julia Ferro, all of Bel Air; sisters, Doris Inscore and Helen Cunningham, both of Bristol, VA, Mary Kate Lilly of Franklin, TN; several nieces and nephews; and a grand host of friends and loved ones.

The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Jan. 5 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel in Honaker with Rev. Dennis Richardson, Rev. Daniel Richardson, Rev. Scottie Perkins, and Rev. Jess Whited.

Entombment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill.

Eleanor Louise Yost

Eleanor Louise Yost, 77, of the Baptist Valley community of North Tazewell, died Jan. 2, 2006 at Tazewell Community Hospital.

Born Sept. 18, 1928 in Tazewell, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Clarence Meredith and Ada Marie Johnson Meredith.

She was a member of the Dailey’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Earlier in life, she was employed by W.W. Mac Company’s Ben Franklin Store on Tazewell’s Main Street. Later she worked at the Tazewell Supply Company and its successor, the A-Mart Store.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Witten Yost; one sister, Kathleen Asbury; and one brother, Raymond Meredith.

Survivors: daughter, Barbara Yost Asbury of Abingdon; son, Wayne Yost, Sr. and wife, Sharon, of Tazewell; sister, Hazel McGlothlin and husband, Guy, of Huntington, WV; grandchildren, Mark Wayne Asbury and wife, Cindy, Anthony Joseph Asbury, Ralph Wayne Yost, Jr. and wife, Tessa, Jessica Asbury Harris and husband, Drew, Bradley Ryan Yost, and Brandon Duane Yost; great grandchildren, Alisha Hope Asbury, Charity Dawn Asbury, Amber Faith Asbury, Andrew Tyler Harris, Joshua Hunter Asbury, and Olivia Maree Paeton Yost; step great grandchild, Marcus Fowler; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Yost and wife, Jean, of Pearisburg.

The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Jan. 5 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Kenny Fields and the Rev. Danny Whitt officiating.

Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.

Vaughn Amburgey

Vaughn Amburgey, 81, of North Tazewell, (Springville), died Dec. 17, 2005 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.

Born at Whitesburg, KY, she was a daughter of the late Hubert H. Amburgey and Lucinda Williams Amburgey.

She was a member of the Mountain View Church of Christ in Springville and had worked for over 40 years for Deskins Markets.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jack C. Amburgey, and two sisters, Joy Cumberledge and Dorothy Fuller.

Survivors: daughter, Sandra Horn and husband, Hubert, of Springville; grandchildren, Lucinda Hoover and Dave Horn, both of Harrisburg, PA, Bob Horn and wife, Tammy, of Memphis, TN; great grandchildren, Westin, Anna and Gabriel Horn; and brothers, Ira Amburgey of Bluefield, VA and Ted Amburgey of Atlanta, GA.

Memorial services were held Dec. 22, 2005 at the Mountain View Church of Christ in Springville with Pastor Bill Boyd officiating.

Entombment followed in Woodlawn Mausoleum in Bluewell, WV.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mountain View Church of Christ, Ireson Road, North Tazewell, VA 25630.

Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, VA was in charge of arrangements.

Harold "Buck" Ball

Harold "Buck" Ball, 47, of the Clark’s Valley section of Swords Creek, died Dec. 28, 2005 at his home.

Born Jan. 20, 1958 in Richlands, he was a son of Stella Mae Whited Ball of Clark’s Valley and the late Reece Ball.

A lifelong resident of the area, he was currently employed as a custodian at Raven Elementary School and was a former employee of Island Creek Coal Company.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one nephew, Jason Hess.

Additional survivors: wife of 24 years, Leisha Ann Dye Ball; twin brother, Darrell "Shade" Ball and wife, Dollie, of Clark’s Valley; brother, Emory Ball and wife, Teresa, of Clark’s Valley; sisters, Barbara Hess and husband, Glen, of Raven, Cathy Keen and husband, Toby, of Richlands; special sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Rhonda Smith, Missy Dye, and Bobby Dye; almost like a daughter, Amber Dye of Swords Creek; almost like a son, Tex "little T" Smith; and a special cousin, Thomas Helton.

The funeral was conducted Dec. 31, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel in Honaker with Rev. Walter Franklin officiating.

Interment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Ethel Burton

Ethel Prater Mitchell Burton, 81, of Pulaski, died Dec. 27, 2005. She was a member of A Place of Refuge Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Buster Mitchell, Sr.; four sons, Lonnie, Buster, Jr., Harold and Delbert Mitchell; and one daughter-in-law, Ruth Mitchell.

Survivors: her best friend and husband, Otis Burton, who has provided endless loving and tender care; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Randy Parker of Radford, Phyllis and Eugene Castle of Dublin; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Barbara Mitchell of Bandy; brothers, Elmer Prater of Georgia and Lawrence Prater of Hawaii; sisters, Effie Jordan and Mary Ann Justice, both of War, WV, Josephine Amburgy of Plant City, FL; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted Dec. 29, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Tazewell with Rev. Jerry Gregory and Rev. Lawrence Hayes officiating.

Interment followed at the Hartwell cemetery in Hartwell, WV.

The family received friends Dec. 28, 2005 at Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.

Hurst-Scott Funeral Home of Tazewell was in charge of local arrangements.

Hester Ann Caudill

Hester Ann Caudill, 90, of North Tazewell, (Springville), died Dec. 6, 2005 after a long illness.

Born in Tazewell County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel F. Thompson and Florence Earls Thompson.

She was of the Presbyterian faith. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Caudill; one son, James Edward Caudill; one daughter, Cynthia Louise Caudill; and several sisters.

Survivors: daughter, Charlotte Perdue and husband, Gene, of Bluefield, VA; grandson, Barry Perdue and wife, Natalie, of Bluefield, VA; great granddaughter, Ann Gray Perdue; brother, Frank Thompson of Bluewell, WV; sisters, Lucy Thompson and Lola Stevens, both of Springville, Sue Brown of Tazewell, Virginia Puckett of Honaker; daughter-in-law, Ina Caudill of North Tazewell; several nieces and nephews; and several great and great great nieces and nephews.

The funeral was conducted Dec. 8, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, VA with Johnny Elmore officiating.

Burial followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Geraldine F. Davis

Geraldine Florence Reedy Davis, 66, of Richlands, died Jan. 2, 2006 at her home.

Born June 4, 1939 in Richlands, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Mildred Jones Reedy.

She was a member of the Church of Living God in Jesus Name.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Morrow and Janice (Jink) Johnson, and two brothers, James Reedy and Claude Reedy, Jr.

Survivors: husband of 41 years, Carl Davis; daughter, Karen Davis of the home; brothers, Fred Reedy and wife, Wanda, of Swords Creek, Jack Reedy of Cedar Bluff; and sister, Shelby Dye and husband, Jack, of Piedmont, AL.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Jan. 5, 2006 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Kenneth Pruitt officiating.

Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 4, 2006 at the funeral home.

Retired Staff Sgt. Carl Franklin Dye, Jr.

Retired Staff Sgt. Carl Franklin Dye, Jr., 56, of Richlands, died Dec. 25, 2005 at his home following a lengthy illness.

Born in Richlands, he was a son of the late Carl F. and Billie Jean Buskill Dye, Sr.

He was a retired 22 year United States Army Veteran having served during the Vietnam Conflict and Desert Storm and was previously retired from Burns and Pinkerton Security.

He was a member of The Wilderness Church of Richlands. He was also a member of the John Ratliff American Legion Post #164 of Grundy and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a lifelong resident of the Richlands area. He will always be remembered for his passion for fishing, hunting and the love of his family, friends and country.

Survivors: wife of 35 years, Sandra Dean Dye; daughter, Sylvia "Carlene" Mehr and husband, Chuck, of Tallahassee, FL; son, Sgt. Carl F. "Duke" Dye, III and wife, Kimberly, of Caserma Elderle Army Base in Italy. He is currently serving in Afghanistan. Son, Spec. 4 Paul W. Dye of Fort Irwin, CA; sister, Patricia Gress and husband, John, of Zephyrhills, FL; brothers, Michael S. "Butch" Dye and wife, Donna, of Richlands, William K. Dye and wife, Sandy, of Cedar Bluff; grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany and Charlee Mehr of Tallahassee; and best friend and companion for nine years, his dog, Fancy Pants.

The funeral was conducted Dec. 30, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Aldie Allen and Robert Dye officiating.

Interment followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

The members of the John Ratliff American Legion Post #164 of Grundy conducted military graveside rites.

Gladys Gray Edmonds

Gladys Gray Edmonds, 91, of North Tazewell, died Jan. 2, 2006 at her home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell.

Michael Scott Estep, Jr.

Michael Scott Estep, Jr., 28, of Ray City, GA, was killed in an industrial explosion accident in Palatka, FL, Dec. 24, 2005.

Born in Murfreesboro, TN, he was a son of Michael Scott Estep, Sr. and Eva Gay Musser Estep of Grayson, KY.

He was a resident of Buchanan County several years, a graduate of Whitewood High School and served in the United States Army. He was a professional Licensed Blaster with Precision Blasting Company.

Additional survivors: wife, Danette Charles Estep; brothers, Kenneth Ray and wife, Angie Estep, of Dixon, TN, William Edward Estep of Lenox, GA; niece, Tracey Estep of Dixon; nephews, Daniel Estep of Dixon, Brandon Vanover and Tyler Vanover, both of Vansant; brother-in-law, Todd Vanover of Vansant; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral was conducted Jan. 2, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Little David Old Regular Baptist Church in Prater with Rev. John Charles and Elder Frank Newsome and Elder Jerry Newsome officiating.

Burial followed in the Charles cemetery in Prater.

Services were held at the church Jan. 1, 2006 at 7 p.m.

Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy was in charge arrangements.

James Ersel Kidd

James Ersel Kidd, 65, of Route 1, Grundy, died Dec. 29, 2005, at his home following a battle with cancer.

Born in Buchanan County, he was a son the late Robert and Nettie A. Ramey Looney Kidd.

He had been a resident of Buchanan County most of his life. He was a member of Grundy Baptist Church and a graduate of Grundy High School. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a former employee of the Kentucky American Water Company with nine years of service, Southwest Virginia Coal Corporation and Race Fork Coal Corporation for ten years.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

Survivors: wife, Charlene Raines Kidd of Rt. 1, Grundy; daughter, Debra and husband, Thomas Hackney, of North Tazewell; sister, Inez and husband, Ralph McClanahan, of Rt. 1, Grundy; brother, Avern Kidd of Pikeville, KY; grandchildren, Emilee Allison Hackney and Erik Grayson Hackney; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was conducted Jan. 2 at 1 p.m. at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Larry David Ratliff and Eddie Hannah officiating

Burial followed in Mountain Valley Memorial Park in Big Rock.

A song service was held at the funeral home Jan. 1, 2006 at 7 p.m.
