James Oliver Price
James Oliver Price, 87, of the Lynn Springs section of Swords Creek, died Aug. 22, 2005 in an Abingdon hospital.
Born July 8, 1918 in Russell County, he was a son of the late Delathia and Lavannie Honaker Price.
He was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a coal miner retiring after 40 years. He was a member of the Church of the Living God of Honaker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Martha Price; one son, Glenford Price; three brothers, Warner Price, McKinley Price, and Clyde Price; and four sisters, Della Mae Honaker, Thelma Yonker, Thressie Strouth, and Devonnia Price.
Survivors: sons, Adam Price and wife, Sherry, and Baskim Price and wife, Nettie, all of Swords Creek; daughters, Vaneline Ratliff of Lebanon, Irene Harris of Swords Creek; sisters, Gracie Lester of Drill, Monnie Keen of Richlands; brother, Dallas Price of Swords Creek; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Price of Swords Creek; special caregiver, Katie Miller; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel at Honaker with Rev. Arnold Street, Rev. Leonard Meadows, Rev. Chester Perricllia, Rev. Darrell Sutherland, Rev. Steve Damron, and Evangelist Bobby Smith.
Interment followed in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon.
Jasper “Jack” Selfe
Jasper “Jack” Selfe, 89, of Skippers, passed from this life June 7, 2005.
Survivors: wife, of 66 years, Louise Robinette Selfe; daughter, Martha S. “Jackie” Hughes and husband, Mitchell “Buddy” Hughes of Skippers; granddaughter, Judy H. Edwards and husband, Larry, of Pleasant Hill, NC; grandson, Michael Hughes and wife, Kathy, of Roanoke Rapids, NC: great-granddaughters, Danielle Hughes of Skippers, Jennifer Edwards of Pleasant Hill; great-grandson, Brandon Hughes of Roanoke Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

Ernest Levi (Daddy Ern) Wampler
Ernest Levi (Daddy Ern) Wampler, 95, of the Dickensonville Community, died Aug. 29, 2005 in the Russell County Medical Center.
Born March 5, 1910 on Wampler Ridge in Dickenson County, he was a son of the late Clarence Augusta Wampler and the late Martha Jane Johnson Wampler.
He lived in Russell County most of his life. He was the husband of the late Eileen Hughes Wampler and was a lifelong farmer.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, George Kenneth Wampler and Billy Hubert Wampler; three sisters, Alverta Greening, Alice Fugate and Iris Farmer; and two brothers, Charlie Wampler and Ray Wampler.
Survivors: daughters-in-law, Louise Ingle Wampler, of Abingdon, Elizabeth Cox Wampler of Castlewood; grandsons, Billy Wayne Wampler and wife, Pat, and Rick Wampler, all of Castlewood, Clarence Willis Wampler and wife, Brenda, of Abingdon; great grandchildren, Kenny Wampler and wife, Crystal, of Bristol, VA, Amy Marchant and husband, Trevor, of Lebanon, Nicholas Stidham and Zachary Stidham, both of Castlewood; great great grandchildren, Courtney, Chelsey, Kendra and Madison; special sister-in-law, who was raised as a daughter, Virginia Hughes Scott of Richlands; sisters, Beulah Morris of Erwin, TN, Frances Gobble of Glade Spring; brother, Stuart Wampler, of Radford; special nephew, Bob Wampler of Castlewood; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted Aug. 30 at 8 p.m. in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Darryl Baker officiating.
Burial will be 11 a.m. Aug. 31 in the Temple Hill Memorial Park.
Those attending are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
Charlotte Ann Hall Young
Charlotte Ann Hall Young, of Chattanooga, TN, formerly of Tazewell, passed from this life Aug. 28, 2005 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga following a brief illness.
Born in Bluefield, VA, she was a daughter of the late W. Truby Hall and Katie Buchanan Hall.
She graduated from Big Creek High School in War, WV in 1941 and graduated from Roanoke Business College, and then entered the Medical College of Virginia Nursing Cadet Program. Upon graduation, she dedicated her life to the nursing profession.
Survivors: husband, Allen Crockett (A.C.) Young; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Mark Igou of Richmond; sister, Frances Hall Kucheman of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Brittany and Trip; and nephews, Hank, Jim, and David Kucheman.
Graveside services will be conducted Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. at Maplewood cemetery in Tazewell with Dr. James H. Grant, Jr. officiating.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Salvation Army in her memory.

Florence “Edith” Cordle
Florence Juanita “Edith” Cordle, 65, of Doran, died Aug. 17, 2005 in a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Russell County, she was the daughter of the late Rass and Ollie Turner Whited, both Russell County natives.
She had made her home in the Raven area most of her life and was a caregiver for the elderly for a number of years. She was a member of the New Life Ministry Church at Claypool Hill.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Luther Junior Cordle; two brothers, Jessie and Claudie Whited; one half brother, Clarence Whited; and three great grandchildren.
Survivors: husband, Luther M. Elva C. Coxton, 84, of the Thompson Valley section of Tazewell, died Aug. 15, 2005 in a Kingsport, TN, hospital.
Born April 21, 1921 in Skeggs, she was a daughter of the late Oliver and Vernie McGlothlin Street.
She had lived in the Tazewell area for the past 29 years, moving there from the Buchanan county area. She was of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Coxton; two daughters, Daisy Shevy and Della Hatfield; two sisters, State Keene and Carmie Baldridge; two half-sisters, Arlene and Ruth; and one half-brother, Ernest Street.

Kayla Lynn Davis
Kayla Lynn Davis, 21, of the College Estates section of Cedar Bluff, died Aug. 18, 2005 at her home.
Born in Duchesne, UT, she was the daughter of Elaine Harris Davis of Cedar Bluff and the late Jeffery Allen Davis.
She was a graduate of Tazewell High School Class of 2001. She had attended Southwest Virginia Community College and Mountain State University at Beckley, WV. She was an employee of Double Kwik in Richlands. She was a lifelong resident of the Richlands and Tazewell areas.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandfather, Robert Davis.

Erma Gay Earls
Erma Gay Earls, 68, of the Earl’s Branch area of Cliffield, died Aug. 15, 2005 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands.
Born Nov. 1, 1936 in Tazewell County, she was a daughter of the late Aaron Ward Blevins and Pearl Osborne Blevins.
She was a member of the Cliffield Christian Church. She retired from Van’s TV and Gift Shop of Tazewell with over 35 years service.
Survivors: husband, Kenneth F. Earls; son, Brian Earls of Pounding Mill; sisters, Jane Stevenson of Dry Fork, Phyllis O’Quinn and husband, Frank, of Witten Valley; brothers, James E. “Buddy” Blevins and wife, Nancy, of Tazewell; and granddaughter, Ailey M. Earls of Pounding Mill.

Ronnie E. Henkel
Ronnie Eugene Henkel, 48, of Richlands, died Aug. 17, 2005.
Born May 21, 1957 in Tazewell County, he was a son of Dorothy Burgess Henkel Bernard of Cedar Bluff, and the late Billie Henkel.
He was a mine constructor for Strata Mine Service. He was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith.

George Neice, Jr.
George Dewey Neice, Jr., 78, of Wilson, formerly of Rolesville, died Aug. 17, 2005 at the North Carolina State Veterans Nursing Home after months of declining health.
He was born July 20, 1927 in Tazewell County, to the late George Dewey Neice, Sr. and Lillie Katherine Peake Neice.
He retired with 31 years of service in the United States military serving his country in several branches of service. During this service, he received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct, three Navy Good Conducts, American Campaign Medals, and Combat Infantry Badge. After retirement from the military, he worked as a Sales Representative with Pinkerton Security Systems. He was a member of Rolesville Baptist Church.
Survivors: wife, Stella Dillow Neice; son, Ralph Douglas Repass and wife, Kaye, of Sims; brother, Johnny Neice and wife, Karen, of Virginia; and grandsons, Ralph Douglas Repass, Jr. and Bryan Todd Repass, both of Raleigh.

James Muncy Ratliff, 51, of Vansant, died Aug. 21, 2005 following a lengthy illness.
Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of Mae Matney Ratliff of Vansant, and the late William Muncy Ratliff.
He was a member of Deel Church of Christ.
