Tora Faye Hess Arms
Tora Faye Hess Arms, 88, of Rowe, died Sept. 2, 2005 in a Richlands hospital.
Born June 7, 1917 on Fletchers Ridge, she was a daughter of the late Elihue and Bertha Nuckles Hess.
A lifelong resident of the Buchanan county area, she was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. She had formerly been employed as a cook at the Derby in Oakwood and at Garden Elementary School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harve Arms; one daughter, Linda Stiltner; two sons, C.B. Arms and Carl Denver Arms; three brothers, Beacher Hess, Leonard Hess, and Thurman Hess; five sisters, Virgie Fletcher, Myrtle Rowe, Delades Vandyke, Dorothy Jackson, and Katherine Hess; one granddaughter, Angela Hall; and two great-grandchildren, Amy Collins and Ricky Ray, Jr.
Survivors: daughters, Hazel Hall of the home, Dorothy Mae Ray of Cleveland; sisters, Thelma Hess of Rowe, Mable Cook of Deskins; grandchildren of the home, Shane Stiltner and Samantha Stiltner; additional grandchildren, Douglas Hall, Kenny Hall, Wayne Hall, Richard Hall, Anita Ray, Donna Collins, and Ricky Ray, Sr.; great-grandchildren, Michelle Keen, Tara Hall, Morgan Hall, Amber Ray, T.J. Collins, and Derek Popp; great-great-grandchildren, Chloe Keen, Azreal Collins, Destiny Collins, James Varney, and Kendall Varney; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted Sept. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Rowe Free Pentecostal Holiness Church at Rowe with Elder Garnell Gilbert and Elder Elmer Brown officiating.
Interment followed in the Hess cemetery on Fletchers Ridge.

Bertha L. Beavers
Bertha Lorraine Beavers, 75, of Lebanon, formerly of Cedar Bluff, died Aug. 30, 2005 following a long illness.
Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Sept. 1 at the Greenhills Memory Gardens cemetery at Claypool Hill with Rev. Darrell Sutherland officiating.
Singleton Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Nick Dean Breedlove
Nick Dean Breedlove, 57, of Witten Valley, died Aug. 29, 2005 in a Kingsport, TN, hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Tazewell Co., he was the son of the late Evelyn Elizabeth Lowe.
He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran serving as a helicopter gunner with over 1,100 flight hours and was owner of NiKKi Construction Inc.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Carl Lowe, Jr.; his grandparents, Sam and Ollie Breedlove; and one brother, Ken Breedlove.
Survivors: wife of 34 years, Freda Breedlove; daughter, Nicole Barrett and husband, Kent, of Witten Valley; son, Samuel Breedlove and wife, Heather, of Pounding Mill; sisters, Patricia Smith and husband, Grat, and Norma (Button) Hale and husband, David, all of Richlands, Susie Rasnake and husband, Mark, and Becky Stiltner and husband, David, all of Pounding Mill; brother, Larry (Doodle) Lowe of Richlands; grandchildren, Nicholas Barrett, Kendal Barrett and Samuel Isaiah Breedlove; uncle, Lawrence Breedlove of Cedar Bluff; aunt, Norma Gilbert of Cedar Bluff; and a host of friends, employees and co-workers.
The funeral was conducted Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. in the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Brother Ravin Fields, Jr. officiating.
Burial followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens cemetery at Claypool Hill.
Military graveside rites were conducted by the American Veterans Honor Guard Association.
Dolly C. Clousher
Dolly Childress Clousher, 83, of Richlands, died Aug. 30, 2005 at her home following a brief illness.
Born in Tazewell County, she was a daughter of the late Gus and Carrie Mallory French, both Tazewell County natives.
She was a retired employee of the Timberline Lodge in Claypool Hill. She was a lifelong resident of the Richlands area and was a member of Bethel Assembly Church in Richlands.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Alex Childress; her second husband, David Preston Clousher; one sister, Dorothy Sharone; and one brother, Sidney French.
Survivors: daughters, Gail Meadows of Emerald Isle, NC, Carol McDaniel of Aberdeen, MD, Peggy Smith of Savannah, GA; son, Tim Clousher of Richlands; sisters, Lila Alitzer of Cedar Bluff, Margaret Sprecher of Hagerstown, MD; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Sept. 2 at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Robert Buckles, Rev. Rusty Ward and Rev. Danny Altizer officiating.
Interment followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Jack Harlow Harman
Jack Harlow Harman, 78, the second son of Robert Wilson Harman and Gladys Grey Goodwin of Tazewell died Aug. 3, 2005 in a hospital in Roanoke Rapids, NC. At the time of his death he was a resident of Black Canyon City, AZ, where he was a community leader recognized for his business and civic involvement.
He had organized the fire department, the rescue squad, and was an active participant in the Civil Air Patrol. He was a licensed pilot who provided transport for victims of emergency situations.
As a businessman he had promoted the construction of a strip shopping mall in nearby Rock Springs, AZ where he and his wife operated a grocery store and a restaurant. In addition, he and his son financed the construction of numerous storage buildings to accommodate the growing population in the area.
Failing health prompted his return to Virginia where he renewed family and friend relationships.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Lois Grattifiori of Black Canyon City, and one brother, Robert Wilson Harman, Jr. (Bobby) of Tazewell.
Survivors: son, Michael Robert Harman presently of Arlington; granddaughter, Lauren Marianna; sister, Mrs. John C Moody (Betty Lou) of Blackstone; special niece, Margaret Rose Lanier of Blowing Rock, NC; nieces, Harriet Harman Bertok, Ann Harman Van Dyke, and Linda Harman Hutchinson, all of Tazewell, Lynn Moody Rannels of Wake Forest, NC, Ellen Moody Yacovelli of Blackstone; nephews, Robert W Harman, III of Hiawassee, John Goodwin Harman, Michael Harman and David Harman, all of Blowing Rock, John C Moody, Jr. of Silver Spring, MD, Steven Harman, Thomas Wayne Harman, and Charles Gregory Harman, all of Tazewell; and special cousins, Mary Goodwin of Blowing Rock, Bettie Byrd St. Clair of Tazewell, and James W Harman, III of Burkes Garden.

Lena Katherine Harrison
Lena Katherine Harrison, 79, of Patrick Springs, formerly of Richlands, died Aug. 30, 2005 at her home.
Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of Ervin George and Louella Pyles Bucklen, both Buchanan County natives.
She was a former Dietician at Clinch Valley Medical Center for over 15 years. She was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church where she taught Sunday School for 35 years. She was a volunteer at the hospital and a member of The Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens. She lived most of her life in Richlands, having lived the last four years in Patrick Springs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Daniel Harrison; one daughter, Linda Lou Harrison; one granddaughter, Christine Lynn Cox; one sister, Lorraine Bucklen; and two brothers, Roscoe and Junior Bucklen.

Noreen Helton
Noreen Helton, 76, of the Gardener section of Honaker, died Sept. 4, 2005 at her home.
Born Dec. 8, 1928 in Russell County, she was a daughter of the late Burke and Sadie Perkins Dye.
A lifelong resident of the area, she was of the Holiness faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Danny Helton; four brothers, Edward Dye, J.C. Dye, Cecil Dye, and Clarence Dye; and one sister, Peggy Dye.

Interment will follow in the Dye cemetery at Swords Creek.
Anis Suella “Sue” Mullins
Anis Suella “Sue” Mullins, 70, of Richlands, died Aug. 29, 2005 in Augusta, GA, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Clinchport, she was a daughter of the late Pat and Anis Kindle Hall, both Scott County natives.
She moved to Richlands in 1974 from Haysi. She was a business owner in Haysi. She was a founding member of Bartlick Presbyterian Church in Haysi and was a member of the Clinch Valley Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rosbal J. “Peanut” Mullins, and one sister, Jo Hulme.
Survivors: daughters, Peggy Engelke and husband, Vincent, of Augusta, Rita McDougald and husband, Mac, of Cumming, GA; sisters, Ruth Sturgille of Clinchport, Charlene Porter of Kingsport, TN, Peggy Mullins of Beckley, WV; grandchildren, Hagan Ratliff and wife, Heidi, Ross McDougald, Houston McDougald, Molly McDougald; expected great-granddaughter, Kendal Claire Ratliff; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted Sept. 1 at 3 p.m. at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Claypool Hill with Rev. John Whitner officiating.

Dorothy McNulty Ray
Dorothy McNulty Ray, 66, of Belfast, died Sept. 4, 2005 at her home following a long illness.
Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Toy Watts McNulty and Helen Erie Sisk McNulty.
She was a member of the Trinity Tabernacle Church. She was a former nurse at Clinch Valley Hospital and Mattie Williams Hospital and was employed at Food City in Lebanon and Vansant for 15 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Dolphus McNulty.
Survivors: loving husband of 44 years, Billie Lee Ray; daughters, Sherry Lynn Campbell and husband, Peyton Verlyn, of Bristol, VA, Amey Jo Nelson and husband, Tim, of Belfast; brothers, Donald McNulty and wife, Lula, of Lima, OH, Rodger McNulty and wife, Alma, of Wardell; grandson, Tyler James Nelson of Belfast; sister-in-law, Eunice Ford McNulty of Oakland, CA; step grandchildren, Zdena Wise and husband, Scott, and Athena Nunley and husband, Mark, all of Brumley Gap; step great grandchildren, Ciana Nunley and Desirae Nunley, both of Brumley Gap; and several nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

Shirley Dale Shrader
Shirley Dale Shrader, 55, of Tazewell, went to be with our Lord Sept. 3, 2005.
Born Dec. 9, 1949 at Dix Creek, she was a daughter of the late Woodrow and Susie Smith Crouse.
She was of the Holiness faith and a former employee of Wal-Mart in Bluefield, VA. She was loved by many children that she cared for and they called her Nanny.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, three brothers, and two special nephews, Gary Neel and Micky Kimberlin.
Survivors: husband of 42 years, Howard Shrader; sons, Keith Shrader and wife, Lisa, of North Tazewell, Chris Shrader of the home; grandsons, Ryan and Marshall Shrader; granddaughters, Whitney Shrader of the home, Breanna Herald of Tazewell, Hannah Shrader of Bland; several nieces and nephews; sisters, Ruth Ball and husband, Joe, Alice Neel and husband, Donald, and Linda Richardson, and husband, Larry, all of North Tazewell, Joyce Dunn and husband, Kenny, of Bedford; several brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and special friend, Margaret Ennis of Lynchburg.

Mike Taylor
Mike Taylor, 54, of the Witten’s Mill area of North Tazewell, died Sept. 3, 2005 at Tazewell Community Hospital.
Born Dec. 16, 1950 in Tazewell, he was the son of the late Carl Edward Taylor and Della Louise Clark Taylor.
He was of the Christian faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Benford Boyd Burkett and Anna Ruth Burkett; and brother-in-law, David Wayne Burkett.
