Willard "Don" Kimbrell
Willard Doyan "Don" Kimbrell, 77, of Doran, departed this life Sunday morning, March 28, 2004, and went home to be with his Lord after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in Arkansas, he served his country in the U.S. Army during World War Two. He spent the majority of his life as a welder and retired in 1987 from the Bristol Virginia School Board. In his life, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing on his computer and reading his Bible.
He attended the Raven Assembly of God and Trinity Assembly of God. He was known for his faithfulness to pray for the needs of others. During his illness he received tremendous support from his family and excellent care from his doctors, Dr. David H. Harpole, Jr., Duke University Medical Center, Dr. Takiar Ahmed, Clinch Valley Medical Center, Dr. German Iosif and the wonderful 5th floor nursing staff of Clinch Valley Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Martha Barber Kimbrell, and one brother, Delbert Kimbrell.
Survivors: loving wife, Inez Baldwin Kimbrell; devoted children, Rick Kimbrell and wife, Betsy, and Connie Kimbrell Bostic and husband, Rev. Daniel Bostic, all of Richlands; sisters, Freda Mae Lance of Rankin, TX, Modena Smith of Russellville, AR; brothers, Jack Barber of Amite, LA, Bill Barber of Russellville, Charles Kimbrell of Onaway, MI; and grandchildren who adored him, Ross and Michelle (Bostic) Jenkins of Gate City; and Monica Kimbrell, Benjamin Kimbrell, Brody Kimbrell and Joshua Bostic, all of Richlands.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. March 31 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Danny Bostic and Rev. Eddie Baldwin officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial cemetery Mausoleum at Richlands.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by Casey-Shortt V.F.W. Post 9640 and Tazewell County Chapter 31 D.A.V.
Nell H. Litton
Nell Helmandollar Litton, 88, of Bristol, VA, formerly of North Tazewell, died March 25, 2004 at the Welmont Hospice in Bristol, TN.
Born at Washington County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Lee McCray and Anna Barnett McCray.
She was a member of the First Church of God on Riverside Drive in North Tazewell.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Helmandollar; her second husband, Rufus Litton; one son, Sam Helmandollar; two brothers, Arthur Lee McCray, Jr. and Bill McCray.
Survivors: son, John Hicks of Salem; brother, Fred McCray of Jonesboro, TN; sisters, Dorris Peak of Bristol, TN, Lois Peak of Dallas, TX, Evelyn Hutton of Atlanta, GA, and Jane Oberson of Bristol, VA; grandchildren, Brent Helmandollar, Beth Wells, Tim Hicks, and Jason Hicks; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. March 27 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Robert Buckles officiating.
Burial followed at Maplewood cemetery in Tazewell.
Mary Catherine Melvin
Mary Catherine Melvin, 75, of North Tazewell, died March 23, 2004 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC.
Born April 12, 1928 in Chilhowie, she was a daughter of the late John and Callie Eller Anderson.
She was a member of Mount View Church of Christ at Springville. She loved flowers and was an avid gardener.
In addition to her parents, one brother, Charles Everett Anderson, preceded her in death.
Survivors: husband, Bobby J. Melvin; daughters, Judy Steele and husband, Larry, and Donna Boyles and husband, Richard, all of Springville; son, Robert Melvin and wife, Cathy, of Springville; sister, Helen Hamm of Chilhowie; brothers, Johnny B. Anderson and Herman Anderson, both of Chilhowie; grandchildren, Audrea Melvin, B.J. Melvin, Hunter Melvin, Gerri Lynn Steele and Alex Steele; and great-grandson, Ryan Ramsey Melvin.
The funeral was conducted March 26 at 11 a.m. at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with Preachers Keith Stiltner and Bill Boyd officiating.
Entombment followed at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield, VA.

William "Jack" Parsons, Sr.
William Jackson "Jack" Parsons, Sr., 87, of Knoxville, TN, went to be with his Lord and Savior March 22, 2004 at the University of Tennessee Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.
He retired from Southern Railway after 38 years service as a conductor.
He was a member of Fifth Ave. Baptist Church for over 50 years where he served as a Deacon as well as almost every elected and appointed position necessary to run his beloved church. He was an avid golfer and lover of all sports, above all, his favorite sporting events were any games played by the Atlanta Braves or the Lady Vols.
He was preceded in death by his father, W. A. Parsons; mother, Rowena Colvin Parsons; and one daughter, Rebecca Susan Parsons.
Survivors: wife of 64 years, Ruth Miller Parsons; son, William J. "Bill" Parsons, Jr. and wife, Frances Strange Parsons, grandson, William J. "Jack" Parsons III and wife, Kathleen Macneil Parsons, great-grandson, Will, all of Roswell, GA; daughter, Linda Parsons Hubbard and husband, Ron, of Memphis, TN, granddaughter, Holly Hubbard Heine and husband, A. Beulah M. Patrick
Beulah Marie Rasnake Patrick, 86, of the Big A Mountain section of Honaker died March 28, 2004 in the Russell County Medical Center of Lebanon.
Born in Honaker, she was a daughter of the late Roby Kernan and Zona Estella White Rasnake.
The wife of the late Clyde Anderson Patrick, she had spent most of her life in this area and was formerly an Avon representative for the area. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church on Big A Mountain, a charter member of the Countiss Rebekah Lodge of Honaker and the Swords Creek Senior Citizens.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Kyle Rasnake, Ambrose Rasnake and Warner Rasnake; one sister, Zola Jackson; one son, Richard Frank Hicks; and one grandson, Greg Barrett Patrick.

Greg B. Patrick
Greg Barrett Patrick, 41, formerly of Richmond, KY, died suddenly March 20, 2004 at his home in San Antonio, TX.
Born in Farmville, he was a son of Dr. Alfred and Peggy Barrett Patrick of Richmond.
He was a graduate of Model Laboratory School and was a member of Parkhills Baptist Church in San Antonio. He entered the military service with the Richmond Army Reserve Unit, transferred to active duty and served 15 years in several prestigious assignments including the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC, and Office of the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, Pentagon. He was medically retired in 1998, spending his last six years as the proud home dad to his two youngest daughters. He was passionate about life. One of his greatest accomplishment was climbing Mt. Rainier in Washington last summer.
Additional survivors: wife, Dr. (Major, U.S. Army) Marsha Brenno Patrick; son, Matthew Gregory of Houston, TX; daughters, Marina Jade of Houston, Amanda Morgan and Aubrie Anna, both of the home; sister, Pamela (Dale) Meskimen of Lakeland, FL; paternal grandmother, Beulah Patrick of Honaker; aunts, Patricia (John) VanDyke and Frieda (David) Davison of Spartanburg, SC; uncle, Fred (Joanne) Barrett of Elkton, MD; adopted aunt, Shirley (Raymond) Belcher of Honaker; first cousins, David (Ruth) VanDyke of Sumerduck, Matthew (Kristen) Barrett of Galena, MD, Jessica (Matt) Koenigsberg of Baltimore, MD; parents-in-law, Merle and Helen Brenno; brother-in-law, Shane (Cheryl) Brenno of Kalispell, MT; two nieces; and several cousins.
Memorial services were held at First Baptist Church in Richmond, KY, March 25 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bill Fort officiating.
Graveside services were conducted March 27 at 11 a.m. at the Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. H. G. Musick Jr. officiating.
Military graveside honors were conducted by VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon. Entombment followed.
A memorial service will also be held at Parkhills Baptist Church in San Antonio the following week with Dr. Robert Welch officiating.

James "Jake" Staples
James Clifton (Jake) Staples, 99, of Falls Mills, died March 21, 2004 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN.
Born in Pocahontas, he was a son of the late James Armstrong Staples and Agnes Twigg Staples.
He had served in the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Crockett and Blanche Gregg; and one brother, Kennith Kirtner.
Survivors: sons, Eddy Staples and wife, Freda, of Falls Mills, A. B. Staples and wife, Dorothy, of Portage, IN; daughter, Doris Wallace of Kingsport, TN; sister, Nannie Danley of Tazewell; brother, Robert Kirtner of Falls Mills; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted March 24 at 2:30 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, VA, with the Rev. Ted Anders officiating.
Burial followed in the Harry cemetery at Falls Mills.
Roosevelt Stinson
Roosevelt Stinson, 69, of Seagrove, NC, formerly of Cedar Bluff, died March 27, 2004 in an Ashboro, NC, hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born at Jewell Ridge, he was a son of the late John and Laura Bandy Stinson, both Tazewell County natives.
He had made his home in the Cedar Bluff area most of his life before moving to North Carolina 21 months ago and was a member of the Open Door Community Church in Baptist Valley. He had served in the U. S. Army and was a disabled veteran.
Survivors: wife, Connie Cruthis Stinson; daughters, Wendy Absher and Tammy Stinson, both of Tazewell, Tiffany Stinson, Brittany Dixon and Stacy Queen, all of the home; sons, Justin Queen of the home, Frank Stinson of Jewell Ridge; step-daughters, Elizabeth Earls of Tazewell, Mary Hunt of Trinity, NC, Jane Queen of Tazewell; step-sons, Frankie Toomes of Randleman, NC, James Toomes of Seagrove; sister, Rose Widener of LaFayette, IN; brother, Mac Stinson of Jewell Ridge; 21 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted March 30 at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Charlie McGlothlin officiating.
Interment followed in the Mitchell Family cemetery on Stinson Ridge near Jewell Ridge.
Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 of Richlands and the Disabled American Veterans Tazewell Co. Ch. #31 conducted military graveside rites.
Martha O. Tiller
Martha Olive Duty Tiller, 90, of Bee, went to be with the Lord March 28, 2004 in a Lebanon hospital.
Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late H.M. and Nancy Johnson Duty.
She was a native of Buchanan County and was a member of the Duty View Primitive Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Franklin Tiller; one son, Harry Richard Tiller; two brothers; and three sisters. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors: daughters, Georgia Godfrey of Silver Springs, MD, Nancy Mallard of Seabrook, MD, Jewell Stevens and husband, Winford, of Rosedale; sons, Woodie Tiller and wife, Glenna, of Winterhaven, FL, Nelson Tiller and wife, Betty of Columbus, OH, Larry Tiller of Roanoke, Ronnie Cline Tiller and wife, Wanda, of Roanoke; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted March 31 at 2 p.m. at the Duty View Primitive Baptist Church at Bee with Elder Leonard Barton, Elder Elmer Brown and Elder Don Stacy officiating.
Interment will follow in the Duty View cemetery at Bee.
