Lucille V. Fields
Lucille Virginia Fields, 71, of Abingdon, died May 23, 2004 in Grace Health Care Center in Abingdon.
Born in Tazewell Co., she was a daughter of the late Roy Jackson Fields and Virginia Bell Witt Fields.
She was formerly employed in the food service department at E. B. Stanley Middle School and attended the Trigg Street Church of God.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Robinette, and one brother, Roy Jackson Fields, Jr.
Survivors: daughters, Clare Jean Fields of Bristol, VA, Loretta May Wilson; sister, Sarah “Tillie” France and husband, Fearl France, of Claypool Hill; sister-in-law, Dorothy Fields of Raven; and brother-in-law, Tommy Robinette of Tazewell.
The funeral was conducted May 25 at 2 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel in Abingdon with Pastor Wayne Chant officiating.
Interment followed in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

Darrell D. Horne
Darrell Denver Horne, 48, of Oakwood, died May 28, 2004 at his home following a long illness.
Born in Tazewell County, he was the son of the late Herbert C. and Viola M. Webb Horne.
He was of the Holiness Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Hampton Horne; one special aunt, Genetta Horne; and a special niece, Teresa L. Horne.
Survivors: sons, Darrell Denver (Denny) Horne, Jr. and wife, Stephanie, of Oakwood, Edwin C. Horne of Mulberry, FL; brothers, Dallas Horne of Abingdon, Billy Horne of Dover, FL, Jerry Horne of Clearwater, FL, Donald Horne of Pilgrim Knob; sisters, Brenda Keene of Oakwood, Sylvia Viars of Patterson, Betty Viars of Compton Mountain, Shirley Matney of Riverview, FL; and grandchildren, Darrell D. Horne, III, Dylan Horne, Meagan Horne and Kelsey Horne.
The funeral was conducted June 1 at 2 p.m. at The Church of God at Crystal Block with Rev. Denny May, Rev. Brandon Curtis and Rev. Dallas Horne officiating.
Burial followed in the Brown cemetery at Hale Creek.
Services were conducted at Buchanan Funeral Services in Keen Mountain May 30 and 31 at 7 p.m.
Ruby J. Mabe
Ruby J. Mabe, formerly of Richlands, died May 22, 2004 at her home in Pasadena, MD, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born at Jewell Ridge on June 27, 1932.
She was a charter member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Pasadena, where she was active in the work of the church as long as her health would allow. She loved God, life in general, was an avid reader, and enjoyed working in her yard and flowers. She was an excellent cook and loved cooking for her family and friends. She was also an expert seamstress and was a member of a square dancing club for many years where she had a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Reedy and Mrs. Paul (Lula White) Mercer, and one brother, Raymond Reedy.
Survivors: husband of 53 years, Curtis Mabe, formerly of Red Ash; son, Mike Mabe of Maryland; daughters, Chris Murray of Maryland, Donna Evans of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; brother, James Reedy and wife, Helen, of Richlands; and sister, Joan Wysor and husband, Kenneth, of Richlands.
The funeral was conducted May 25 at Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena.
Interment was in Glen Haven cemetery in Glen Burnie, MD.

Jimmie “Jr.” Mullins
Jimmie E. “Jr.” Mullins, 64, of the Pea Patch section of Jewell Ridge, died May 28, 2004 at his home.
Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of Ervin D. and Lola E. Ward Mullins, both Buchanan County natives.
He had made his home in Buchanan County all of his life and was a former coal miner. He was a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ and UMWA Local #6025 Bishop.
Survivors: wife, Leola J. Mullins; sons, Johnny E. Mullins and wife, Susie, of Wardell, Jimmy D. Mullins and wife, Teresa, of Cedar Bluff, James W. Mullins and wife, April, of Dublin; sisters, Jean Beavers and Faye Hatfield, both of Jewell Ridge; brothers, Fred Mullins and Ray Mullins, both of Jewell Ridge; grandchildren, Megan Ryan Mullins, Chris Rose, Cassandra Jones and Clarissa Rose; and great-grandchildren, Quan Jones and Jayda Slate.
The funeral was conducted May 31 at 11 a.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Gilbert Cooper, Charlie Cooper and Jimmy Day officiating.
Interment followed at the Mullins Home cemetery at Pea Patch.
Helen Elizabeth “Jackie” Peters
Helen Elizabeth “Jackie” Peters, 86, of Tazewell, died May 27, 2004 at Tazewell Community Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Richlands, she was a daughter of the late Emmett T. Farley and Myrtle Peery Farley.
She was a homemaker and member of the Fincastle Baptist Church. At the time of her death she was a resident of Heritage Hall Nursing Home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, William C. Peters; four brothers, Holland Farley, Jack Farley, Harold Farley, and Ronnie Childress; and one sister, Martha Jane Bennett.
Survivors: son, Michael C. Peters and wife, Kim, of Bracey; daughter, Barbara Davis and husband, Kirk, of Gratton; granddaughters, Kelly Davis Sawyers, and husband, Mike, of Bluefield, VA, Erin Elizabeth Peters Waybright and husband, Chad, of Roanoke; great-grandchildren, Megan Paige Gallagher of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, and one year old Chase Preston Waybright of Roanoke; and sister, Mildred Lorraine Simmons of Virginia Beach.
The funeral was conducted May 29 at 2 p.m. at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell by the Rev. Dwight Eads and her granddaughter, Megan Paige Gallagher.
Burial followed at Hankins cemetery in Richlands.
Morris E. Stacy
Morris Elton Stacy, 63, of Pounding Mill, formerly of Buchanan County, died May 29, 2004 at the Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Ellis Henry and Goldie Juanita Bandy Stacy.
He was a member of the Claypool Hill Church of Christ and a retired coal miner having worked for the United Coal Company.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bobby Lee Stacy, Lanthan Howard Stacy and Curtis Ray Stacy.
Survivors: wife, Shirley Cooper Stacy; daughters, Brenda Anne Stacy of Claypool Hill, Doretta Kaye Adkins of Richlands; sisters, Billie Quick of Bluefield, VA, Beulah Doretta Kennedy of Elkton, MD; brothers, Charles Dexter Stacy of Grundy, Millard Stacy of Elkton, Larry Stacy of Cedar Bluff; and grandchildren, Kaleigh Brooke Stacy and Dustin Tyler Dotson, both of Richlands.
The funeral was conducted May 31 at 1 p.m. with Evangelist Bob Smith officiating.
Burial followed in the Charles cemetery on Straight Fork near Wolford.
Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy was in charge of all arrangements.
Kenneth D. Sweeton
Kenneth Dale Sweeton, 58, of Oakwood, died May 28, 2004 at his home following a long illness.
Born at Garden Creek, he was the son of Ruby Hale Sweeton of Oakwood and the late Floyd Sweeton, Jr.
He was a member of the Garden Baptist Mission.
Additional survivors: wife of 38 years, Thelma Wilcox Sweeton; daughters, Belinda Sweeton Yates of Richlands, Mrs. Steve (Denise) Rowe of Oakwood; sister, Dorothy Sweeton Cooke of Rowe; and grandchildren, Cody James Yates and Savanna Rowe.
The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. June 1 in the Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain with Rev. Ancil Childress officiating.
Burial followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens cemetery at Claypool Hill.
Services were conducted May 30 and 31 at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Eva Loretta Tiller
Eva Loretta Tiller, 75, of Springville, died May 29 at her son’s home.
Born in Bluefield, she was a daughter of the late Gasaway and Flora Meadows Carroll.
She was a member of the Springville Christian Church and a life member of the PTA. She was a volunteer with the Black Diamond Girl Scout Council, later becoming an employee of the Girl Scout Council. She was an excellent homemaker and talented craft maker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jason P. Tiller, Sr.; one son, Larry Tiller; and one brother, Gordon “Cracker” Carroll.
Survivors: sons, Jason P. Tiller, Jr. and wife, Peggy, of Springville; Stanley Tiller and wife, Sandi of Bastian; daughters, Mrs. Bill (Karen) Collins of Mt. Carmel, TN, Sharon Burleson and Eva Stiltner, both of Springville, Mrs. Bud (Nancy) Hess of Safety Harbor, FL; brothers, Willard Carroll of Falls Mills, Clinton Carroll and Lowell Carroll, both of Springville; sister, Carolyn Carroll of Springville; special friend, Dreama Ritter of Springville; eight grandsons; one granddaughter; nine great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson.
In honoring her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. Private graveside services will be held.

William (Billy) Asbury
William R. (Billy) Asbury, 72, of Witten Valley, died May 17, 2004 in a Tazewell hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Tazewell County, he was the son of the late Will and Lucy Griffith Asbury.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Asbury; two sisters, Harriet Matthews and Della Mae Angles; and six brothers, Raymond Griffith, Clyde Asbury, Floyd Asbury, Melvin Asbury, Robert Asbury and Dave Asbury.
Survivors: sons, William Asbury of Jessup, MD, David Asbury of Crofton, MD; daughters, Charlotte Asbury and Cherial Asbury, both of Laurel, MD, Cindy Lou McClung and husband, Wesley, of Columbia, MD, Elizabeth M. Quershi and husband, Aman, of The Colony, TX; six stepdaughters; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Grace Hagy of Woodlawn, MD, Marling Taylor of Woodstock, MD; and special nephew, Snooky Asbury of Witten Valley.
A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. May 20 at the Chapel of Love Church on Kents Ridge Road with Rev. Roger Lester officiating.
Burial followed in the Asbury Family cemetery at The Cove.
The family requests that no flowers be sent. Memorial gifts may be made to the family.

Lloyd "Buzz" Blankenship
Lloyd H. "Buzz" Blankenship, 75, of Salem, died in his home May 18, 2004.
He was a member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church in Salem. He retired from Lewis-Gale Medical Center. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors: wife, Maxine; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ron Walsh of Cleveland, OH; son, Lloyd H. Blankenship, Jr. of Cleveland, OH; sister, Doris Usay of Andover, OH; stepsons, David Cline and wife, Janet, of Atlanta, GA, Tommy Cline and wife, Becky, of Salem; grandchildren, Jimmy Fernett, Jamie Schulz and husband, Dennis, Jerry Cline and wife, Heather, John Cline, and Vickie and Scott Cline; two great-grandchildren; many cousins and nephews; and a special friend, Jack Williams.
The funeral was conducted May 21 at 11 a.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel with Pastor Raymond Rowley officiating.
Interment followed at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke.
Cecil Boyd
Cecil Boyd, 72, of Vansant, died May 17, 2004 in a Lebanon hospital.
Born in Davenport, he was a son of the late Moss and Myrtle Gilbert Boyd.
He was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a United States Army veteran and a disabled coal miner. He was of the Free Will Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Mose Boyd Jr.; one sister, Irene Turner; and four infant siblings.
Survivors: daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Clinton Barton of Vansant, Ginger and Kenneth Robinette of Swords Creek; granddaughters, Myra Jackson and husband, Jason, of Vansant, Amanda Robinette of Swords Creek; special friend, Joyce Tiller and family of Bee; sisters, Imogene Compton of Lebanon, Kathleen Caskey of Dayton, OH; brother, Arthur F. Boyd of Vansant; and a host of friends and neighbors.
The funeral was conducted May 19 at 1 p.m. in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel at Honaker with Rev. Ancil Childress, Rev. Roy Lee Wilson and Rev. Clayton Hayes officiating.
Entombment followed in Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Lebanon.
Military graveside services were conducted by American Legion #164 of Grundy.
