Brian Allen Dunford, 25, of Pounding Mill, died July 4, 2004 at his home.
Born in Tazewell County, he was the son of Larry Allen and Thelma Louise Sutherland Dunford of North Tazewell.
He was employed by Spandeck, Inc.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lissie Bell Dunford.
Additional survivors: wife, Amy Dunford; daughter, Sierra McKayla (Callie) Brown of North Tazewell; sister, Cynthia Holbrook and husband, Reggie, of Tazewell; grandfather, John Wilburn Dunford of Tazewell; and grandmother, Stella Neal of North Tazewell.
The funeral was conducted July 8 at 11 a.m. at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Jerry Casey officiating.
Burial followed in the Whitaker cemetery at Whitaker Ridge.
Victor K. Gross II
Victor Keith Gross II, 32, of Honaker, died July 10, 2004 at a Lebanon hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Richlands, he was a son of Victor Keith Gross of Lebanon and Mary Carol Kiser Gross Adams of Hickory, NC.
He was a 1990 graduate of Saluda, SC, High School, attended Augusta Business College in Augusta, GA, for two years, and was a former salesman. He made his home in the Tazewell and Russell County areas most of his life, residing in Honaker for the past four years and attended Lighthouse Assembly Church.
Additional survivors: Godmother, Diane Fuller of Honaker; Godfather, Jerry Jackson of Honaker; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral was conducted July 13 at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Stephen Musick and Rev. Stafford Compton officiating.
Interment followed in the Hankins cemetery in Richlands.
Lucille Kinder
Lettie Lucille Kinder, 73, of Martinsville, formerly of Bandy, died July 12, 2004 at her home.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands is in charge of arrangements.
Timothy T. Marshall
Timothy Tipton Marshall, 87, died at his home in Bishop July 5, 2004.
He was the son of the late Pricey and Dexter Marshall of Sylvatus.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Tiny, who passed away April 5, 2004. He was the last surviving member of his family.
Surviving the Great Depression, he spent most of his hard working career on the farms in the beautiful state of Virginia or in the coal mines of West Virginia. He was a seasoned farmer and coal miner, who retired with 20 years of service from the U.S. Steel and Pocahontas Fuel Company. He spent 26 straight months as an adolescent in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp in Covington, helping build the future infrastructure of this fine state while supporting his family and ensuring they survived the Great Depression as well. He was a patriotic U.S. Army veteran, serving as an orderly in the medic field while in Alaska during his two-year isolation tour of duty during World War II.
He was a dedicated and loyal member of the United Mine Workers (UMWA) Union, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. The staple of his life was being a member and elder at the Horsepen Church of Christ for more than 30 years. He was one of the most faithfully religious, positive and honest men you would ever encounter, who was never late for work, church or any other engagement. You would almost certainly find him at any of these places extremely early and enjoying the fellowship of his family, friends and co-workers. He never met a stranger and always opened his home and heart to anyone that crossed his path bringing a smile to your face and happiness to your heart. He was the solid foundation that anchored his family and was loved and respected by all. He was the example to all who surrounded him because his actions were always extraordinarily kind, caring, and generous.
In addition to his wife, Tiny, and his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, G1adys Watson and Virginia Nichols, and two brothers, Webb Marshall and Ray Marshall.
Survivors: sons, Ancel Marshall and Glenn Marshall, both of Bishop, Verl Marshall of Vienna, WV; daughter, Eva Callahan and husband, Stephen, of Kansas City, KS; three grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.
The funeral was conducted July 9 at 2 p.m. at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel, in Tazewell, with Walter Schwitzerlett and Johnny Elmore officiating.
Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA, with military graveside rites conducted by members of the VFW Post #9696 of Bluefield, VA, and American Legion Post #14 of Pocahontas.

Minister Goldie Marie Miller
Minister Goldie Marie Miller, 79, of Raven, died July 7, 2004 at a Richlands hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Big Creek, she was a daughter of the late James F. and Maude Keen Mabe, both Tazewell County natives.
She was a lifelong resident of the Raven area and was a former employee of the Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands. She was a member of the Red Ash Pentecostal Church at Red Ash.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Thomas Smith; second husband, Andy Edward Smith; third husband, Minister Julius Miller; one infant son, two daughters, Catherine Smith and Geneva Cox; two sisters, Opal Cook and Pauline Mabe; and two brothers, Roy Mabe and James Sylvester Mabe.
Survivors: daughters, Bernice Pruett and Louvonne Davis and husband, Garland, all of Raven, Betty Osborne and husband, Joe, and Charlotte Osborne and husband, Jay, all of Cliffield; sons, Morris Don Smith and wife, Velma, and David Smith and wife, Linda, all of Raven, Walter Smith and wife, Brenda, of Cedar Bluff; sisters, Emily Armstrong and Edna Byrd and husband, Arch, all of Richlands; brother, Doug Keen of Raven; 29 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted July 9 at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Dannie Short and Rev. Darrell Sutherland officiating.
Entombment followed in the Clinch Valley Memorial cemetery in Richlands.
Betty Hester Neel
Betty Hester Neel, 55, of North Tazewell, died July 9, 2004 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands.
Born at Dry Fork, she was a daughter of the late Carl Henry and Beulah Virginia Whitt Parsons.
She was a lifelong resident of Tazewell County. She was a lifelong member of the Assembly of God Church and was an ordained minister in the "Way of Life" ministries.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Delmar Neel; and one nephew, Christopher Parsons.
Survivors: daughter, Juanita Hope Gillespie and husband, Michael, of Tazewell; grandsons, Kenneth Michael Gillespie and Matthew Mason Gillespie; brothers, Jerry Milburn Parsons and wife, Opal, of Mineral, Charles Ray Parsons of Gratton, Donnie "Butch" Parsons and wife, Linda, of Dale City; sisters, Shirley Parsons Wilson and husband, Avery, of Radford, Judy Parsons Sparks and husband, Gilbert, of Streetsboro, OH; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family, Lisa Dunford and husband, Jerry, Judy Toney, Curtis Dunford, Kristy Nicholas, Lynn Hicks, Angel Lamie, Bess Vandyke and Deborah Haney.
The funeral was conducted July 12 at 2 p.m. at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Wayne Mullins officiating.
Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.
Charles E. Pippin
Charles Elmer Pippin, 82, of Cedar Bluff, formerly of Gate City and Richlands, died July 7, 2004 at a Lebanon hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Scott County, he was the son of the late Robert and Cora Kent Pippin.
He was a retired service manager for Par Gas & Suburban Propane of Richlands. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Nottingham United Methodist Church at Gate City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Hurley Pippin.
Survivors: daughter, Debbie Lester and husband, Danny, of Cedar Bluff; son, Larry M. Pippin of Florida; grandchildren, Chelsey Lester and Cody Lester of Cedar Bluff; brother, Robert (Shorty) Pippin and wife, Myrtle, of Big Stone Gap.
The funeral was conducted July 11 at 3 p.m. at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Bill Porter officiating.
Burial followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Military graveside rites were conducted by Casey-Shortt V.F.W. Post 9640 & Tazewell County Chapter 31 D.A.V.
Fred A. Sheets
Fred Allen Sheets, 81, of Mundytown Road, North Tazewell, died July 10, 2004 at his home after a long illness.
Born in Marion, and residing in Tazewell County for the last 72 years, he was a son of the late Albert O. and Mallie B. Allen Sheets.
He served in World War, II as a Medical Technician and was a member of the Barns-Beavers VFW Post #7136 of Tazewell. He was a retired coal miner from Consolidation Coal Company’s Bishop Preparation Plant where he worked for 43 years and was a member of the UMWA Local #6025 of Bishop.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bueford Sheets and Larry Sheets, and two sisters, Pauline Borgess and Beatrice Hankins.
Survivors: loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Janis Graham Sheets; sons, Ronald Sheets and wife, Sharon Sheets, of Tazewell, Doug Sheets and wife, Gilda Sheets of Lynchburg; daughters, Brenda Adele Kim and husband, I.H. Kim, of Gallipolis, OH, Janet Sheets and fiancé, J. R. Sarver, of Catawba, Karen Sheets and fiancé, Tim Gayheart, of Culpeper; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Walker of Williamsburg, Trula Altizer and Sadie Spencer both of Bishop, Mary Ripke of College Station, TX; brother, A.O. Jr. "Toe" Sheets of Bishop; and special caregivers, Paula Slate and Emil "Emma" Rice.
A service to celebrate his life was conducted at 2 p.m. July 13 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. John Canning officiating.
Graveside services followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA, where military graveside rites were given by members of Barns-Beavers VFW Post #7136 of Tazewell.

Margaret F. Steele
Margaret Frances Steele, 67, of Honaker, died July 11, 2004 at her home.
Born in Richlands, she was a daughter of the late John Dailey and Mary Catherine Hess Plaster.
She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a 1955 graduate of Richlands High School.
Survivors: husband, Ralph Steele; daughters, Sharon Taylor and husband, Wayne, of Abingdon, Carol Justice and husband, Tim, of Newnan, GA; son, Curtis Steele and wife, Allison, of Lebanon; and one brother, Cecil Plaster of Raven.
The funeral was conducted July 13 at 11 a.m. in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill with Rev. Carl Robinson officiating.
Interment followed.

Pauline Bingham
Pauline Bingham, 69, of Alliance, died June 28, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, OH.
She was born June 1, 1935 to Lincus and Osie (Staltner) Bowman in Maxie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bingham Jr., who died in 1990.
Survivors: children, Joyce Dowd of Polk City, FL, Darrell Bingham of Kent, OH, Daphine Thomas of Minerva, Claudette Monea and Robert Bingham III, both of Alliance; grandchildren, Shaun Dowd, Travis Bingham, Leann Bingham, Jessica Mueller, Ronald Thomas, Keith Thomas, Allyssa Monea, Rebecca Bingham Shank; great-grandchildren, Alel Mueller, Ethan Mueller, Orria Mueller; and brother, Earsel Bowman of Cedar Bluff.
Services were held July 2 at 1 p.m. at the Maple-Cotton Funeral Home in Kensington with Bro. Gene Hydrick officiating.
Burial followed in Bethesda cemetery.
