Thelma S. Bandy
Thelma S. Bandy, 87, formerly of Peach Bottom, PA, formerly of Bandy, Tazewell County, died Jan. 7, 2004 at Calvert Manor Health Care Center, Rising Sun, MD.
She was retired from Summers Food Processing, New Freedom, PA in their canning operation.
She was a member of Nottingham Missionary Baptist Church, Nottingham.
Born in Russell County, she was a daughter of the late Elijah and Minnie Poston Sword.
She was the wife of the late Earl F. Bandy who died in June 1977.
Survivors: brother, Roy C. Sword of Old Fort, NC; sister, Ethel Helton of Honaker; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted Jan. 12 at Reynolds Funeral Home in Quarryville, PA.
Burial was in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York, PA.
Johnie Barton
Johnie Barton, 93, of the Finney section of Honaker, died Jan. 10, 2004 at his home.
Born in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Charlie Barton Jr. and Causby Jane Cook Barton.
He had resided in Buchanan and Russell Counties his entire life and was a retired coal miner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Hess Barton; one son, Roland Barton; one daughter, Juanita Barton Young; four stepsons, Jesse Lilly, Frank Lilly, Frashier Lilly and Jerdon Lilly; two grandsons, David Junior Barton and Thomas Jackson Testerman; three sisters; and 13 brothers.
Survivors: daughters, Hazel Jane Testerman of the home, Louise Testerman of Washington County; sons, Eugene (Ruby) Barton of Amelia, Rev. Robert (Leona) Hess of Bridgewater, ME, Curtis (Mildred) Barton and Roy Andrew Barton, all of Honaker, Clarence Junior (Ruby) Barton of the home; sisters, Eula Stump, Bertie Ball, Alice Yates and Millie Bostic, all of Honaker, Madie Blevins and Ella Alderman, both of Berwind, WV, Betty O’Quinn of Vansant; brothers, Lewis Barton and Jeff Barton, both of Vansant, Clarence Lee Barton of Davenport; grandchildren, Roger (Lena) Barton, Rhonda (Steve) Boyd, Jason (Theresa) Barton, Tommy Testerman, James (Kathy) Boyd, Peggy (Burton) Fuller, Linda (Dale) Zink, Barbara Golden, Jesse Paul Testerman and Kathern Louise Rose Testerman; 11 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel at Honaker with Rev. Jess Whited and Rev. Denver Barton officiating.
Interment followed in Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon.

Ollivene E. Buchanan, 59, of Thompson Valley, died Jan. 12, 2004 at her home.

Frankie Fritz
Perry Burgess
Frankie Fritz Perry Burgess, 90, of Tazewell, died Jan. 11, 2004 at Heritage Hall Health Care in Tazewell.
Born at Mountain City, TN, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Betty Owens Fritz.
She attended the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Baptist Valley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Herman Perry; her second husband, Willard Burgess; one son, Gene Perry; two brothers, Jimmy Fritz and Keller Fritz; and three sisters, Kathy Cline, Dorie Perry and Laney Waldron.
Survivors: sons, Herman B. Perry, Jr. and wife, Clara Pauline, of Tazewell, Cecil Perry and wife, Shirley, of Bluewell, WV; grandchildren, Herman Boyd Perry, III. John Perry, Diane Perry, Deborah Cecil, Denise Kitts, Dana Perry, and Joe Perry; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Jan. 14 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Joseph Fritz officiating.
Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours prior to the service.
Mary L. Cruey
Mary Lucille Cruey, 77, of Raven, died Jan. 11, 2004 at her home following a brief illness.
Born in Tazewell County, she was the daughter of the late Bert Thomas and Josephine Taylor Ball, both Tazewell County natives.
She was a lifelong resident of the Tazewell County area and was of the Holiness faith. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640 Richlands.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Leola McGlothlin, and one brother, Bill Ball.
Survivors: husband, Howard Cruey; daughter, Mary Lambert and husband, Howard, of Cedar Bluff; sons, David Short and wife, Nancy, of Oakwood, Michael Short and wife, Diane, of Tazewell, Darrell Short and wife, Dana, of Cedar Bluff; sister, Nell Muir and husband, Bob, of Raven; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many friends.
The funeral will be conducted Jan. 15 at 1 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Robert Short officiating.
Entombment will follow at the Clinch Valley Memorial cemetery Mausoleum in Richlands.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. on Jan. 13 at the funeral home.
Eula G. Harris
Eula Gay Harris, 70, of Honaker, died Jan. 8, 2004 in a Lebanon hospital.
Born in Russell County, she was a daughter of the late Richard Henry and Nancy Louise Street.
She was a lifelong resident of the area.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Survivors: husband, Herbert Harris of Hansonville; daughters, Judy Carol Maynard of Crum, WV, Sandy Tuggle of Honaker; sons, Richard Harris, Jack Harris, Glen Harris and James Harris, all of Honaker, Davy Harris of Cleveland, Larry Harris of Elk Garden; sister, Mary Harris of Honaker; brother, Bob Street of Battle Creek, MI; and 17 grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel in Honaker with Rev. Denver Barton and Rev. Harless Hess officiating.
Interment followed in Frank Smith cemetery on Big A Mountain.
Shirley A. Harrison
Shirley Ann Harrison, 56, of Cliffield, died Dec. 31, 2003 at Tazewell Community Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Louise Harrison.
She was a graduate of Tazewell High School and former employee of Deskins Supermarket and Food City. She attended the Maxwell First Church of God.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Sharon Harrison.
Survivors: brother, Johnnie Harrison of Cliffield; nephew, Jessie Harrison of Winston Salem, NC; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A memorial service was conducted at 2 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Maxwell First Church of God.
As requested by Shirley, her body was cremated.

Cora K. Hill
Cora Kiser Hill, 97, of Bishop, died Jan. 9, 2004 at Tazewell Community Hospital following a long illness.
She was a daughter of the late Thomas G. and Ellen Rasnake Kiser.
She was a member of Alexander United Methodist Church in Bishop, a charter member of the Bishop Rebekah Lodge #17 and a charter member, for 56 years, and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #331 in Bishop.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emory D. Hill; one son, Gerald Hill; three sisters, Nora Musick, Oma Moore and Marilla Johnson; and four brothers, Ross Kiser, Holland Kiser, Leonard Kiser and Clarence Kiser.
Survivors: daughter, Thelma Asbury of Baltimore, MD; sons, Darrell Hill of Bland, Sidney Hill of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Jimmy Hill and Stacy Asbury, both of Baltimore, Keith Hill of Omaha, Preston Asbury and Kathleen Collier, both of College Park, MD; and seven great-grandchildren,

Ronald "Bubby" Jones
Ronald E. "Bubby" Jones, 62, of Tazewell, died Jan. 5, 2004 at Select Specialty Hospital, Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, TN.
Born in Tazewell County, he was the son of the late Wesley and Virginia Asbury Jones.
He attended Black’s Chapel Presbyterian Church in Tazewell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Peggy Jones Smith, Mary Ellen Jones, and Elizabeth Jones.
Survivors: nephews, Dillard Smith and Lonnie Smith, both of Tazewell; nieces, Brenda Smith and Diane Smith, both of Ohio; aunts, Eva Asbury of Bluefield, VA, Pauline Asbury of Bethel, OH; several cousins; special friend, Angie Martin; and numerous other friends.
The funeral was conducted Jan. 8 at 2 p.m. at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Eddie Nash officiating.

Harless W. Keen
Harless Woodrow Wilson Keen, 78, of Lebanon, died Jan. 10, 2004 in Mountain Home Veterans Hospital in Mountain Home, TN.
Born in Grundy, he was a son of the late John and Seattie Stiltner Keen.
He had spent most of his life in the area and attended the Church of God of Prophecy. He was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II and received a Purple Heart.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William H. Keen and Wiley Keen.
Survivors: daughter, Jerline Hendrix, with whom he made his home in Lebanon; sons, Jerry Keen of Nashville, TN, Larry Keen of Billings, MT, Dewey Keen of Coeburn, Roger Keen of Honaker; his wife, Virginia Keen of Honaker; sister, Elizabeth Boyd of Riverview, FL; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Interment followed in Mountain Home National cemetery in Mountain Home.
