Mr. William Lloyd "Lightning" Gray, 89, of Emporia, died Sunday, October 22, 2000. He was a veteran of World War II and a retired carpenter and house painter. He is survived by a brother, Shelton F. Gray of Emporia; and a number of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations may be made to Hospice of Southside Virginia. Family will receive friends Monday evening 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m., Emporia Cemetery, with military rites.

Harold L. Hughey Sr., of Richmond, died Sunday, October 22, 2000. He was a caring and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His love of family and friends, his generosity, his sense of humor and contagious laughter, will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have known him. He was preceded in death by his son, Scott R. Hughey. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara H. Hughey; two sons and their wives, Harold L. Hughey Jr. and DeAun W. Hughey, Stephen L. Hughey and Sherri E. Hughey; and his beloved daughter, Susan H. Scurry; and four grandchildren, Harold L. (Chip) Hughey III, Elizabeth H. Hughey, Alexandra E. Hughey and Henry R. Hughey. Mr. Hughey served as vice president of Republic Lumber Co. and was an active member of the Richmond Homebuilders Association for many years. Norman R. Huskey, 83, of Richmond, died October 21, 2000. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Megan Victoria Huskey. Survived by a daughter, Brenda H. Taylor and her husband, Gordon Taylor; and a son, Steven B. Huskey and his wife, Tanya Huskey; a sister, Myrtle Scott of Cumberland, Va.; and a brother, Carl Huskey of Dillwyn; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. KORB
Heinrich (Heinz) Christian Korb, 79, of Richmond, formerly of Offenbach, Germany, departed this life on Saturday, October 21, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Herta Franciszka Korb; his children, Ursula Herta Korb, Heinz Jurgen Korb, Sylvia Irene Korb and Sonja Brigitte Korb; a granddaughter, Emily Marie Korb; a niece, Karin Leyh and her family of Offenbach, Germany. Mr. Korb retired from Inta-Roto in March 1986 after 22 years of service. A memorial service will be held at Corinth United Methodist Church, Sandston, Va., 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The family will receive friends at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and also at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Crystal G. Long, 18, of Ford, died October 22, 2000. She is survived by her mother, Louise Long; and stepfather, James T. Shores II, both of Ford, Va.; three brothers, Stanley Long of Nottoway, Michael and Christopher Shores, both of Bumpass, Va.; three sisters, Jennifer Long of Nottoway, Sabrina Matthews of Powhatan, and Rebecca Shores of Langley, Va.; her maternal grandmother, Mary E. Burke of Nottoway; and aunts and uncles Lois and Mason Lang of Jetersville, Mary and Werner Arrington of Amelia, Raymond and Maryann Burke of Chantilly. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Farmville. Visiting at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, 16409 Court St., Amelia, Va., from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday.
MATTHEWS
Ella Robins Shepherd Matthews of Richmond died October 16, 2000 at The Windsor. She was born May 29, 1910, a daughter of Charles Edward and Mary Louisiana Krengel Shepherd. Her family includes her daughter, Barbara Matthews Morrison; her son, Melvin Craig Matthews; her daughter-in-law, Diane Keyes Matthews; four grandchildren, Jessica Matthews Eames, Michael Craig Matthews, and Eve and Eric Morrison; and two great-grandchildren, Juno Starr Morrison-Doyle and Jack Matthews Eames. Mrs. Matthews, well-known for her sense of humor, was a retired employee of Miller and Rhoads, where she worked in the uniform department for 20 years. A graveside service will be held at Hollywood Cemetery on Monday, October 23, at 11:30 a.m.
MORAN
Timothy Augustus Moran, a career Army officer, died at 85, on October 21, 2000 in Richmond, after a long illness. Born in New York City in 1914, the son of the late Daniel and Margaret Moran, he grew up in Chicago, where he attended Catholic schools. He was a member of the Illinois National Guard before enlisting in the U.S. Army. During WWII, he served in both the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions and fought valiantly at Anzio and Bastogne, receiving Accommodations for Bravery, including the Purple Heart. He later served in the Korean War with the 25th Infantry Division. After Korea, he served at various posts and his final assignment was at Ft. Monroe, Va., where he worked in military intelligence. Retiring from the Army in 1968 at the rank of Lt. Col., he achieved a lifelong goal by completing his B.A. in history, graduating from Hampton University in 1969. After briefly teaching ROTC at a high school in Florida, he began a second career in social services in Newport News, Va., where he worked until 1979. He and his wife moved to Kitty Hawk, N.C., where they lived for 18 years before relocating to Richmond in 1997. He is survived by his wife, Jane Heidelbach Moran; and a daughter, Elizabeth Jennings Moran, both of Richmond; a son, Michael George Moran of Athens, Ga.; and a granddaughter, Alison Emily Moran, a student at Davidson College, N.C. Funeral services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.

Eldridge James (Jim) Mullins, 61, of Elmont, died October 21, 2000 at Henrico Doctors Hospital. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 37 years, Jean Mullins; daughter, Teri Smithson and her husband, Greg and their children, Amber and Heather of Lugoff, S.C.; daughter, Denise McCool and her husband, Walt and their children, Daniel, Afton and Craig Turner and Rachel and Ginny of Grenada, Miss. son, Aaron J. Mullins and his fiance, Angela Matthews of Florence, S.C.; daughter, Chrystal Hardin and her husband, Mark and their son, Thomas (T.J.) of Beaverdam. Lucy Coleman Gilman Stanley, 81, a resident of Hanover Manor, formerly of Glen Allen, died October 21, 2000. She was the widow of Bernard A. (Bunny) Stanley Sr. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Wayne Schwartz of Lynchburg; her son and daughter-in-law, B.A. Jr. and Linda Stanley of Montpelier; and her daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor and Ronald Davis of Hanover; one sister, Maude Stanley of Montpelier; her grandchildren, Carol Paige and Courtney Schwartz, Bernard A. Stanley III and his wife, Alison, Paul, Tim, Matt and John Davis; three great-grandsons, Kyle, Justin and Aidan Davis. Mrs. Stanley was a registered nurse who graduated from the Johnston-Willis Hospital School of Nursing in 1939. She was a retired employee of Dr. Judson T. Vaughan and the Ashland Medical Center. Howard Truby Urbach, 89, died Thursday, October 19, 2000 in John Randolph Medical Center. Mr. Urbach was a native and lifelong resident of Richmond. He was the retired owner of Equity Press. Mr. Urbach was the son of the late, Howard and Rosalind Jennings Urbach, and the widower of Emma S. Urbach. Surviving are one daughter, Susan U. Mays and husband, Jack of Prince George; one son, Howard T. Urbach Jr. of Petersburg; one stepson, John P. Derrenberger of Miami, Fla.; and one grandchild, Michael A. Stansfield of Colonial Heights.
