Christine Neff
Christine Marie Neff, 88, of Elkton, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Neff was born on Dec. 7, 1919, in Rocky Bar, and was the daughter of the late George and Ada Gooden McDonaldson.
Christine worked at Fisher's Pool Hall and Restaurant in Elkton for many years. She loved to cook and liked flowers. She was a member of the St. Stephens and the Good Shepherd Church in Rocky Bar and had lived in the area all of her life.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Eddie V. Brown and Stanley R. Neff, and four brothers, Russell W. McDonaldson, Ralph 'Bill' McDonaldson, Lawrence K. McDonaldson and Melvin L. McDonaldson.
She is survived by six sisters, Virginia Walton of Harrisonburg, Ethel Cook, Maggie Turner, Francis Marshall, Pauline Shifflett and Beulah Merica, all of Elkton; one brother, Leroy McDonaldson of Grottoes; numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Betty and Bill Reid of Clearwater, Fla.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at St. Stephens and the Good Shepherd Church in Rocky Bar at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Stuart Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 7 until 8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Friends may also stop by the home of Ethel Cook at any time.

Ralph Beeler Self
Ralph Beeler Self, 81, of Grottoes, passed away Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at his home. Mr. Self was born on June 12, 1927, in the Brushy Run area of Pendleton County, W.Va. to the late Alvin Self and Emma Rosetta Alt Self.
Ralph served in the United States Air Force and retired after 25 years achieving the rank of Master Sgt. His military career guided him to the Pentagon, where he met his former wife, Marjorie J. Self. Together, they opened Ralph's Grill on Market Street in downtown Harrisonburg. He later was employed by Kawneer Company, Inc. and retired in 1992 then assisted part-time at Whetsel Seed Company in Harrisonburg.
He is survived by a son, Ralph B. "Sonny" Self Jr. and wife, Karen, of Mathias, W.Va.; a daughter, Patricia S. "Pat" Jackson and husband, Rick, of Harrisonburg; two brothers, Paul R. Self and Delmar D. Self; three sisters, Doris McDaniel, Eva R. Ailer and Ruth Fulk; one granddaughter, Kimberli D. Jackson of Harrisonburg, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Pinkney R. Self, John T. Self and G. Orville Self.
Pastor Wayne Wright will conduct a funeral service 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7:00-9:00 at the funeral home or may call anytime at the home of his daughter, 2411 Reservoir St., Harrisonburg.
Vivian W. Smith
Vivian Wampler Smith, 84, of Bridgewater and formerly of Grottoes, died Monday, July 7, 2008, at Sample Imagethe Bridgewater Home.
Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Weyers Cave and was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Elsie Ann Teter Wampler.
She graduated from Port Republic High School and was a member of the Grottoes Church of the Brethren. She had worked as a clerk for Walker Manufacturing in Harrisonburg, was a farmer with her husband on the farm and was a homemaker.
On June 1, 1946, she married
Robert Fulton Smith, who preceded her in death July 8, 2001.
Surviving are a son, Stanley L. Smith of Charleston, W.Va.; a daughter, Shirley S. Wheeler of Swoope; a brother, Paul W. Wampler of New Hope and three grandchildren.
Pastors John Neff and Dee Flory will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Thursday at the Grottoes Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Church cemetery in Weyers Cave.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Friends may also visit at the home of her brother, Paul and Shirley Wampler, at 303 New Hope/Crimora Road, New Hope, VA at any time today.

Ann Elizabeth Weinrich
Ann Elizabeth Weinrich, 82, of Harrisonburg, died Thursday, July 17, 2008, at her home. She and her husband retired and lived in Palm Coast, Fla., for many years before moving to Harrisonburg in September 2002. A few days prior to her death, Mrs. Weinrich professed her belief that Jesus Christ had saved her from her sins.
Ann was born in Garfield, N.J., on June 8, 1926, and is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gall.
She attended Rutgers University in New Jersey. She received her master's degrees in social work and psychology, but her main joy in life was being a wife and homemaker to her family. She was a member of the Muhlenberg Lutheran Church.
In 1946, she married
her husband of 62 years, Erwin Herman Weinrich, who survives.
She is also survived by four sons, Brian Erwin Weinrich of Manassas Park, Va., Alan Jeffery Weinrich of Wyoming, Ohio, Jonathan Andrew Weinrich of Mount Tabor, N.J., and Timothy Marc Weinrich of Somerset, N.J. Also surviving are one brother, Andrew Gall of Burlington, N.J.; four grandchildren, numerous nieces, one nephew and numerous extended family.
A funeral service will be held at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg on Monday, July 21, 2008, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. prior to the service on Monday. Pastor Joseph Vought will officiate services. Following the burial at Oak Lawn cemetery, Bridgewater, Va., there will be a reception at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church, 281 East Market St., Harrisonburg, Va.

Edith C. Binkley
Edith Coryell Binkley, 97, of Harrisonburg died Wednesday, July 09, 2008 at Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community. Mrs. Binkley was born July 25, 1910 in Wayne County, Indiana to the late O. Demp and Effie May Coryell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Stewart L. Binkley. Edith was a devoted housewife and mother and a member of the Massanutten Presbyterian Church. Prior to relocating to the Valley she resided in the Atlanta, Georgia area for twenty years to be near her family. She is survived by a daughter, Esther B. Good of Harrisonburg; a brother, Charles Coryell of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren and nieces and nephew. A memorial service will be held 2:00 Saturday, July 12, 2008 at Sunnyside Retirement Community Meredith Chapel with Paul O'Gorek officiating. Burial will take place at Crown Hill cemetery in Centerville, Indiana. Charles "Wayne" Conley, Sr.
Charles "Wayne" Conley Sr., 62, of Elkton, made his journey to his eternal home to be with his loved ones and the man whom he served on Thursday, July 17, 2008, at his home.
Mr. Conley was born July 18, 1945, in Elkton, and was the son of the late Charles Edgar "Bill" Conley and Mary Clevia Dean Hensley Conley.
Wayne was a born again Christian of strong faith and was a member of the Upper Room Church in Elkton. He began his cabinetry business in 1969 and was a Class-A Contractor his retirement in September 2007. He had a special interest in genealogy and never met a stranger. The most important things in life to him were his family and grandchildren. He loved his horses and enjoyed fishing, hunting, carpentry and playing hymns on his guitar for friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Diane Baugher Conley, whom he married
on Aug. 6, 1965. Also surviving are two sons Charles Wayne "C.W." Conley Jr. and Derrick "Stacey" Conley and wife, Pam of Elkton; one daughter, Sarah Lanette Knight and husband, Phillip of Elkton; seven grandchildren, Kristen Conley, Kelcie Conley, Tanner Conley, Rebekah Meadows, Zachary Conley, Gabby Conley and Sidnee Knight; an aunt, Thelma G. Hensley and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Runion, and his brother, the Rev. Johnny E. Hensley, who passed away on the same day within minutes one year beforehand.
The Rev. Carter Dean will conduct a funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2008, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton. Burial will follow at Dean Mountain cemetery in the Shenandoah National Park.

Loretta M. Rexrode
Loretta Mae Morris Rexrode, 70, of Grottoes, died Friday July 11, 2008, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Mrs. Rexrode was born March 6, 1938, in Lynnwood, Va., and was the daughter of Lucille Gooden Morris and the late Alfred B. Morris. On Aug.11, 1956, she married
Sevie 'Rex' Rexrode, who survives.
In addition to her husband she is also survived by one son, Kevin Rexrode and wife, Rachel, of McGaheysville; one daughter, Lynne' Rhodes and husband, Dennis, of Port Republic; one brother, Wayne Morris and wife, Stephanie, of Elkton; two sisters, Barbara 'Bobbie' Ann Rogers, of Gaithersburg, Md., Linda Hottinger and husband, Lonnie of Weyers Cave; six grandchildren, Jeremy Rexrode and wife Teresa, Tabitha Kaczorowski and husband, Ken, Benjermin 'Ben' Rexrode, Caline Rexrode, Kevin Morris and wife, Michelle, Crystal Jones and husband, Marcel; five great-grandchildren, Mackenzie 'Mack' Rexrode, Matthew Rexrode, Jordan Buchanan, Emily Morris, and Hannah Morris; and one great-great-grandchild, Aidan Rexrode; and special friends, Carson Rexrode and Raymond Rexrode.
Mrs. Rexrode was a longtime member of Mount Olive Brethren Church in Pineville. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.
Funeral services will be held at the Mount Olive Brethren Church at 3 p.m. Sunday July 13, 2008, with the Pastor Fred Miller officiating. Entombment will follow at the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, 3173 Spotswood Trail (Rt. 33) on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitors are also welcome at the home of Lucille Morris, 13657 South Eastside Highway, Port Republic.

Constance Leap
Constance 'Connie' Aline Leap, 83, of 881 Jackson St. in Harrisonburg, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Leap was born Feb. 18, 1925, in Harrisonburg, and was the daughter of the late Arthur and Virginia Lawson Roche.
Connie was a loving mother and grandmother. Her greatest pleasures in life were her family and friends. She loved everyone she met and never met a stranger. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing and quilting.
On Feb. 25, 1967, she married
Loice Gatewood Leap, who preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 1974. She is survived by two sons, Arthur 'Dickie' R. Leap and wife, Terry, of McGaheysville and Lance C. Leap and wife, Virginia, of Harrisonburg; and one grandson, Philip Lantz of Pittsville, Va.
Pastor Ray Berry will conduct a funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet cemetery in McGaheysville.

Clarence B. "Sonny" Baugher
Clarence Boyd 'Sonny' Baugher, 80, of Elkton, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at his home.
Mr. Baugher was born July 3, 1928, at the Baugher Family Farm near Elkton and was the son of the late Claude C. and Della Pearl Harner Baugher.
Mr. Baugher grew up working on the family farm and graduated from Elkton High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and 'Guarded the Gold' at Fort Knox, KY., during basic training. He served in the 3rd Armored Division at Fort Hood, Texas.
After the Korean War he worked for Baugher Chevrolet in Waynesboro for a number of years. Following the death of his father, he took over his family farm and raised fruits, vegetables, cattle and hay that he sold to local grocery stores and residents. He grew watermelons, cantaloupes and tomatoes by the thousands. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1988 as mail carrier for the Elkton area and continue to farm until his death. He was a member of the Bethel United Church of Christ and the Junior Order of United American Mechanics, and was lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox.
On July 1, 1950, he married
Mary K. 'Kack' Clem, who survives. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, C.B. Baugher II and wife, Carol, Rescue, VA., Jeff T. Baugher and special friend, Peggy Lam, Massanutten, S.M. 'Scott' Baugher, Elkton; one daughter, Sara Ann Baugher and friend, Leanne Kelly, Culpeper; one sister, Ruth Life and husband, Granville, Elkton; nine grandchildren, Jeremy Baugher and wife, Karyn, Megan Baugher and Rodney Spangler, Josh Baugher, Meredith Baugher, Gracie Baugher, Addison 'Addie' Baugher, Maggie Baugher, Brittany Terry, Charlie McLeod and wife, Amy, one great-grandchild, Nadia Spangler; best friends, Paul and Janice Hamrick and their children, Bradley and Brenda, Monroe, Ind. He was also preceded in death by siblings, C.O. 'Oliver' Baugher, Blanche Jennings, Dennis Baugher, Roy C. Baugher and Charles W. 'Zeb' Baugher.

David B. Kirby
David Benjamin Kirby, 22, of Harrisonburg, died Friday, July 11, 2008.
Mr. Kirby was born March 17, 1986, in Harrisonburg, and was a son of Hank and Marjorie Gentry Meyerhoeffer.
He was self-employed locally as a construction worker and attended Spotswood High School.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Austin David Kirby of Shenandoah; his father, Galen Wayne Kirby of Oklahoma City, Okla; a brother, Michael Kirby of Hinton; two sisters, Jennifer Kirby of Mount Clinton and Carrie Kuster of Staunton; paternal grandfather, M.V. Meyerhoeffer of Harrisonburg, and maternal grandparents, Velma Lee Gentry of Staunton and Marvin Gentry of Crimora.
Pastor Tony Hiles will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Kygers Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Burial will follow at Cross Keys cemetery.

Joyce A. Sours
Joyce Ann Lam Sours, 72, of Elkton, died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mrs. Sours was born Nov. 12, 1935, in the Swift Run area of Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Elmer C. and Zada A. Haney Lam. Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by a brother, Alton Lam and a son, Mark Sours.
Mrs. Sours was a lifetime resident of this area and a member of the Elkton Evangelical United Methodist Church. She had worked at Shen-Gas, Leggetts, and for the past 14 years was a bookkeeper for Bill Neff Enterprises.
On June 29, 1955, she married
Clyde I. Sours, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Gary Sours and wife, Melody, Bruce Sours and wife, Judy, all of Elkton; one daughter, Nancy Sours and fiance', Kevin Dovel, of Elkton; four grandchildren, Crystal Meadows, Jennifer Sours, Dustin Sours, Emily Sours; and one great-granddaughter, Megan Breeden.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2008, at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Elkton with Pastor Patricia Riggs, Pastor Nona Allen and Adam Snow officiating. Burial will follow in the Elk Run cemetery in Elkton.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
