Owen M. Hollar
Owen Michael Hollar, 3, of Harrisonburg died Tuesday June 17, 2008, at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg. Owen was born Dec. 29, 2004, in Norfolk, Va.
He is survived by his parents, Travis Michael and Dena Carrier Hollar of Harrisonburg. He attended the Pre-school program at South River Elementary School in Grottoes.
Owen was diagnosed with Leigh's Disease, a form of Mitochondrial Disease, two years ago. His courage battling this illness brought family, friends and community together giving the entire family a sense of strength. Owen could light up a room with his bright smile and big, blue eyes.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Andrew 'Drew' L. Hollar, age 5; maternal grandparents, Raymond and Wanda Carrier of Mount Sidney; paternal grandparents, Michael and Shelby Hollar of Edinburg; a great-grandfather, Eugene McIlwee; great-grandmother Ruth Hollar; two aunts and uncles, Chad and Michelle Carrier Sligh and Matthew and Stacey Hollar Smith. His three surviving cousins, Lynsey and Cole Sligh and Madison Smith shared lots of smiles and giggles with Owen.
He was loved by his entire family and will be missed by all who knew him.
A private Graveside service will be held on Friday June 20, 2008, at East Lawn Memorial Garden. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2008, at the Harrisonburg Baptist Church located at South Main and Liberty Street. Pastor David Burch will officiate the services. A reception will follow in the church's fellowship hall. In honor of Owen, the family has asked those attending the service to wear something blue.

Bessie Louise Smith
STRASBURG – Bessie Louise Smith, 85, died Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Tandem Health Care of Woodstock.
Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 14, 1920, in Strasburg, daughter of the late John William and Mamie G. Robinson Stinson. She was a homemaker and member of Shenandoah Valley Baptist Church in Stephens City and attended Strasburg Christian Church. She was the wife of the late Perry Silas Smith.
Surviving are two daughters, Judith F. Conner and Kay F. Ritenour, both of Strasburg; a sister, Evelyn Joyce Grim of Strasburg; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral was conducted Tuesday, June 27, at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, by the Rev. Michael Grooms. Burial was in Riverview cemetery, Strasburg.

Jackie "Jack" Edwards
Jackie 'Jack' Francis Edwards, 74, of Elkton, went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ on Monday, June 23, 2008, at 3:50 p.m.Sample Image
Mr. Edwards was born June 17, 1934, in Moore County, N.C., and was the son of the late Samuel Jordan and Hazel Wallace Edwards. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Samuel Edwards, Bernie Edwards and Margaret Ann Edwards.
Mr. Edwards was a member of the International Pentecostal Church of Christ in Grottoes and had been employed by Rockingham County Public Schools and also had worked for Stanley Furniture in Waynesboro.
On Jan. 8, 1954, he married
his wife of 54 years, the Rev. Margaret Gibson Edwards, Pastor of the International Pentecostal Church of Christ in Grottoes. He is also survived by five daughters, Jackie Allen and her late husband, Christopher, of Harrisonburg, Lynn Sawyer and her husband, Jim, of Waynesboro, Tina Cook and her husband, Rob, of Bridgewater, Denise Shifflett and her husband, Rodney, of Elkton, Jenny Plume and friend, Rich, of Elkton; one son, the Rev. Timmy Edwards and wife, Tiffany, of Elkton; brother, Robert Edwards and wife, Dianne, Pinehurst, N.C.; sister, Helen Wilson and husband, Jimmy, of North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Kim Plume, Leslie Sawyer, Andy Sawyer, Justin Edwards, Heather Cook, Harley Shifflett, Cassy Smith; three great-grandchildren, Kendall, Kris, Jorgia.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2008, at the Landmark Tabernacle in McGaheysville with the Rev. Mark Meeker, the Rev. Andrew Draughn and the Rev. Keith Powers officiating. Burial will follow in the Elk Run cemetery in Elkton.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

Marvin Cecil Switzer
(October 17, 1921 - October 2, 2012)
U.S. Veteran - Marvin C. Switzer, 90, died Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, after several years of declining health.
He was born Oct. 17, 1921 in Augusta County and was son of the late William Ernest and Ida Josephine (Arey) Switzer.
After graduating from North River High School in 1939, he served in World War II with the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Burke APD65 with the South Pacific Fleet. His destroyer escort protected the battleship, USS Missouri, which took President Harry Truman into Tokyo Bay to sign the peace treaty with Japan. He received numerous awards and an honorable discharge in 1946 with the rank of Fireman First Class.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church until 1947 and a member of Mossy Creek Presbyterian Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, deacon, elder and on various committees, and was a retired farmer.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Ruby (Hemp) Switzer after 70 years of marriage, son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Boyd R. and Janie J. Switzer of Chapel Hill, NC; two grandchildren, Katherine Pauline Switzer Walker and husband Talmadge Levis Walker, Jr., and Susan Rebecca Switzer Scanga and husband Daniel Raymond Scanga; five great grandchildren, Timothy Ray Walker, Sarah Elizabeth Walker, Joseph Scott Levis Walker, Vivian Renee Scanga, and Julia Rose Scanga. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Sheets, and two brothers, Lester E. Switzer, and Arlie E. Switzer.
A funeral service will be conducted at Mossy Creek Presbyterian Church, Mount Solon, at 3:00 PM on Thursday, October 4, 2012 with Rev. Patrick Pettit officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 from 7:00 until 8:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater.

Jesse Stevenson
Our beloved Jesse Stevenson, 23, left us to be with our Lord on June 23, 2006.
Surviving are his fiancee, Alicia Ruark; two sons, Bryon and Kaleb Stevenson; his mother, Teresa Stevenson; father, Mark Stevenson; sister, Brandi Stevenson and her fiancé Josh Williams; two step-brothers, Alex and Andrew Stevenson; grandparents, Shirley Jett, Jack and Sharon Stevenson, Donald and Kathy Roberts; and great-grandfather, William Leigh.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 29, at the Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock, by Pastor Bill Fitchett. Burial will follow in the Detrick cemetery, Fort Valley.
The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Rick Williams, Joshua Williams, Cody Haskins, Tommy Coates, Buster Doman and Eric Doman.
Jesse was a kind and loving father, son, brother, and a great provider for his family. He will be dearly missed by all of us, may God bless him.
Cornelius Sullivan
Born to Cornelius J. Sullivan and Gertrude S. Sullivan in New Jersey on Sept. 14, 1927. Married Mary A. Walling Jan. 21, 1950, in New Jersey. They have six children, Kathleen, Patrick, Dennis, Brian, Kevin and Joseph; three grandsons, John, called “Jay,” Kevin Neil and Ryan; and one granddaughter, Caitlin. Also two daughters-in-law, Susan and Christine; and one son-in-law, Allen.
Mary and Neil were partners in several businesses and moved to Virginia in 1982 and worked with real estate development. He and his wife did a lot of traveling with their children and together. He served in the Navy as a radarman in ’45 and ’46. Later he worked for RCA for 14 years.
A visitation will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, at the Theis Funeral Chapel, 9377 North Congress St., New Market, VA 22844.

Dr. Jean Stuart Wake
LYNCHBURG – Dr. Jean Stuart Wake, 84, passed away Monday, June 19, 2006. Dr. Wake was born in Rocky Mount, one of six boys born to the late Maude and Arthur Wake, pastor of Strasburg Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. He grew up in Strasburg, where he was a childhood friend of his future wife, Eliza Ann Borden. He graduated from Lynchburg College, the Lexington Theological Seminary, and was ordained into the ministry in 1943. He and Ann served in seven Disciples of Christ churches and had interims at eight churches over 50 years of ministry. Receiving his call to the ministry during high school, he led a life of service devoted to his churches, the Disciples of God denomination and his family. He enjoyed singing, writing poetry, fishing, camping and family gatherings.
Surviving are three daughters, Melody W. Jennings and husband Robert L. of Altavista, Cathy W. Merritt and husband Phillip of Norfolk, and Shelley W. Davis and husband Brian of Asheville, N.C.; six grandchildren, Bret L. Jennings, Lee C. Jennings, Stuart B. Jennings, Hunter W. Merritt, Paige L. Merritt and Catherine S. Davis; and two great-grandchildren, Kendall L. Jennings and Spencer R. Jennings.
A memorial service was conducted Thursday, June 22, at Westminister-Canterbury in Lynchburg. A graveside service was held Friday, June 23, at Riverview cemetery in Strasburg.

Thomas Ray “Tommy” Albright Sr.
MIDDLETOWN – Thomas Ray “Tommy” Albright Sr., 50, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at his home.
Mr. Albright was born Nov. 24, 1955, son of Frances L. Albright and the late Orvil G. “Orvin” Albright of Stephens City. He was a loving son-in-law of Albert and Jacquelin Henry of Strasburg and a wonderful husband to Deborah A. Henry Albright. He was an employee of Ashworth Brothers for 32 years as a maintenance mechanic. He and his wife were the former owners of Guard Hill Meats Inc. He was a member of the Jackson Chase Golf Club and the Reliance United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife and mother, surviving are his three children, Thomas R. “Tommy” Albright Jr. and wife Tena of Stephens City, Jacqueline S. “Jackie” Albright Peacher and companion Eddie Whetzel, Jeffrey L. “Jeff” Albright, all of Middletown; four grandsons, Trae Alan, Tyler Matthew and Trevor Ray Albright, all of Stephens City, and Caleb Michael Peacher of Middletown; two sisters, Geraldine Wilber and husband Larry of Sterling and Mary Hartley of Winchester. He was a brother-in-law to Diane Miller and companion Sherwood Runion of Edinburg, Jimmy and Mary Henry, Sammy and Virginia Henry, Tommy Vickers, all of Middletown. He is also survived by special family members by love: Polly Berg, Joyce Clark and Shawn Jones.
He was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Barbara Henry Vickers.
Herbert B. Cook
Herbert B. Cook, 89, of Frederick County, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006, in Eden Pines Living Facility in Strasburg.
Mr. Cook was born Aug. 31, 1916, in Washington, D.C., son of the late James Barton and Dorcas Emma Brown Cook.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma M. Spicer Cook, whom he married
on July 7, 1938; daughter, Ellen Dyke of Midlothian; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Two siblings are deceased.
A graveside service was conducted Thursday, March 9, at Mount Hebron cemetery, by the Rev. George Fletcher.

Richard Thomas “Ricky” Fatkin
ASHBURN – Richard Thomas “Ricky” Fatkin, 18, formerly of Herndon, died Sunday, March 5, 2006.
Mr. Fatkin was born May 21, 1987, in Fairfax. He was a student at both Herndon and Stonebridge high schools. He was the loving and devoted father of Jacob Thomas Fatkin of Tampa, Fla.; beloved son of Vicky and Juan Lertora of Winchester and Richard B. and Lawenda Fatkin of Ashburn; brother of Nicole and Sofia Lertora; stepbrother of Sierra, Jessie and Jordan White; and grandson of Kenneth and Michelle Fatkin of Falls Church, Mary Ann Bradley of Strasburg and Danny Bradley of Lynchburg.
A memorial service was conducted Saturday, March 11, at Adams-Green Funeral Home, Herndon.

Malachi Frank Feliciano-Beeton
HARRISONBURG – Malachi Frank Feliciano-Beeton, infant son of Luis Feliciano and Rene Beeton, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006.
Surviving with his parents are a brother, Andre Beeton and sister, Neyla Beeton, both at home; grandparents, John Beeton of Toms Brook, Michele Beeton of Staunton, Hilda Torres and Tito Feliciano, both of Puerto Rico; and great- grandparents, Clara Lugo of Puerto Rico, and Doris Beeton and Margot Spies, both of Woodstock.
A graveside service was conducted Saturday, March 11, at Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock.

George W. Grove
WAYNESBORO – George W. Grove, 78, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at his home.
Mr. Grove was born Nov. 30, 1927, in Fishersville, son of the late G. Grayson Grove and Mary Vint Grove. He was a lifetime member of St. James Lutheran Church, having served on the church council and sang in the choir, and a member of the Men’s Brotherhood of the church. He was a dairy farmer and a member of the Fishersville Ruritan Club where he had perfect attendance for the last 56 years.
Surviving are his wife, Ann Webb Grove, whom he wed Dec. 22, 1957; daughter, Nancy Gail Grove of Ruckersville; son, Alan George Grove and wife Tina of Elkton; two brothers, John D. Grove and wife Crystal of Fishersville and James R. Grove and wife Dot of Woodstock; two sisters, Nell McLeod and husband Bill of Monroe, N.C. and Lucy Lee Powell and husband Ben of Brodnax; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, at St. James Lutheran Church by Pastor Kenneth A. Price. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mark Grove, John Wright, Kevin Phillips, Eddie Miller, David Bartley, Tom Bartley, Harry Dull and Andy White.
