Robert "Rabbit" Louis Roderick
MOUNT JACKSON - Robert "Rabbit" Louis Roderick, 78, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Roderick was born Sept. 7, 1929, in Loudoun County, son of the late William and Amy Corley Roderick. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a bricklayer with Kelly Pickett Masonry Co.
Surviving is a niece.
A funeral service was conducted Monday, Dec. 3, at Valley Funeral Service, Bowmans Crossing, by the Rev. Everett Burner. Burial was in Mount Jackson cemetery.

Walter R. Wichser
MOUNT DORA, FLA. - Walter R. Wichser, 90, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, at Avante in Mount Dora.
Mr. Wichser was born March 5, 1917, in Beardstown, Fla., son of the late Walter and Lorena Meyer Wichser. He was an Army veteran of World War II and former research engineer for Quaker Oats. He was the husband of the late Annie Gertrude "Peg" Lancaster Wichser.
Surviving are a son, Dr. James A. Wichser of San Diego; daughter, Diane L. Wichser of Oregon; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Sunset View Memorial Gardens, Woodstock, with the Rev. Lisa Webb officiating.

Margaret Fox Bushong
WOODSTOCK - Margaret Fox Bushong passed away Oct. 11, 2007.
Mrs. Bushong was born May 15, 1921, the daughter of Richard and Annie Elizabeth Alexander Fox. Margaret graduated from the University of Virginia School of Nursing with a Registered Nurse degree. She served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II in England. Later, she continued work at Warren Memorial Hospital, Shenandoah Memorial Hospital and Massanutten Military Academy.
Along with her husband, Gilbert Franklin Bushong, she ran Emory Bushong and Sons Hay and Lumber and Bushong, Inc. She also helped establish and design Sunset View Memorial Gardens for over 30 years.
Surviving are husband, Gilbert Franklin Bushong; one brother, George Fox and wife, Marge, of Front Royal; sisters, Betty Fox Lunceford and husband, John, of Marshall, and Louise Fox Gochenour and husband Lee, of Woodstock; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held at Mt. Zion Fairview Lutheran Church, Woodstock, on Oct. 14 by Pastor Scott Maxwell.
Burial was at Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock.

Lauston Eugene Funkhouser
HARRISONBURG - Lauston Eugene Funkhouser, 89, of Harrisonburg, passed away Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at his home.
Mr. Funkhouser was born May 1, 1918 in Jerome, son of the late Granville E. and Maude Sine Funkhouser.
He was a mechanic for the Rockingham County school bus garage and was a member of Muhlenberg Lutheran Church. He was an avid steam engine enthusiast and collector. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Helsley Funkhouser on Nov. 5, 2005. They were married
in Orkney Springs on April, 5 1946. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Grace Wetzel, Dorothy Funkhouser, Fern Lytton; and two brothers, G. Ward Funkhouser and Guy E. Funkhouser.
Surviving are daughter, Mildred F. Lynn, of Harrisonburg; grandson, Patrick Funkhouser and wife, Kristin; four sisters, Fleta Moomaw, of Edinburg, Joycie Mowery, of Woodstock, Ruby Heishman, of Edinburg and Arlie Mae Clem, of Strasburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Oct. 14, 2007, at Kyger Funeral Home, Harrisonburg by the Revs. Joseph Vought and David Nelson. Burial was at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

Calvin W. Garber
WEYERS CAVE - Calvin W. Garber, 91, of Weyers Cave, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Bridgewater Home.
Mr. Garber was born May 22, 1916, in Weyers Cave, son of the late Ben and Florence Garber. He lived his entire life in the Weyers Cave community and worked as a dairy farmer. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren and served many years as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member.
On July 7, 1942, he married
Edith Cline, who preceded him in death in 2002.
Surviving are three sons, Fred Garber and wife Barbara of Mount Jackson, Don Garber and wife Jeannie, and Gerald Garber and wife Mindy, all of Weyers Cave; 10 grandchildren, Jonathan Garber and wife Pennie, Michael Garber and wife Dixie, Anne Baker and husband Joe, Don Garber Jr. and fiancée Mary Bullock, Patricia Garber and husband Phil Pillar, Paul Garber, Ryan Garber and wife Susan, Aaron Garber and wife Melia, Tori Heatwole and husband Ian, Evan Garber and wife Emily; 18 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren, and sister, Verma Garber
He was preceded in death by his sister, Alda Heddings.
A memorial service was conducted Thursday, Oct. 11, at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren by the Revs. Matthew Fike and Evan Garber. A private burial was held earlier in the day.

Emily Faith Griffey
WOODSTOCK - Emily Faith Griffey, infant daughter of Mark Allen and Devin Michelle Clements Griffey, of Woodstock, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at Winchester Medical Center.
Surviving, with her parents, are her grandparents, Greg and Debbie Neff, of Strasburg, and Donald and Deloris Griffey, of Woodstock; and her great-grandmothers, Jean Neff, Loris Sager and Martha Griffey, all of Strasburg.
Private services were held.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Stover Funeral home in Strasburg.
Mary Marie Vance Lupton
WINCHESTER - Mary Marie Vance Lupton, 72, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Lupton was born in 1934, in Star Tannery, daughter of the late William and Dora Vance. She was a homemaker and previously worked at Capital Records in Winchester. She was a member of Winchester Christian Church.
Surviving are her husband of 49 years, James T. Lupton, whom she married
Sept. 6, 1958; daughters, Teresa Graham of Stafford and Bonnie Sager of Winchester; son, Robbie Lupton of Winchester; four grandchildren, Crystal Lupton, Cheyenne Sager, Cindi Hensen and Casadey Sager, all of Winchester; three great-grandchildren, Michael Shane, J.D. Hensen and Christian Hensen, all of Middletown; and one brother, Charlie Vance of Winchester.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Jasper Vance, Lee Vance, Ralph Vance, Roy Vance and Jim Vance.
A funeral service was conducted Saturday, Oct. 13, at Omps Funeral Home by David A. Owings. Interment was private.

Pauline “Polly” Virginia Will Lytton
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Pauline “Polly” Virginia Will Lytton, at almost 91 years of age, died on Oct. 3, 2007, at Sibley Hospital.
Mrs. Lytton, daughter of the late James Carson and Edna Zirkle Will, was born on Nov. 7, 1916, and grew up in Shenandoah County. For the past 10 years she has resided in Washington, D.C. with her daughter, Gail and her husband, James Lively. Her vocation was as wife and mother, her avocation was her avid interest in literature of every genre. She leaves a family of 81 members living across the country and around the world.
She was the beloved wife of the late Tyrus Cobb Lytton, loving mother of Tyrus (Lita), Patricia Sims, Gail Lively (James) Joyce Stephenson (Gary), Mary Jane Pierce (Ray), Robin (Svetlana), Martha Van Trees (Stephen), John, and Kimberly.
Services and interment will be in Shenandoah County at St. Luke’s County Line Church, near Timberville, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 19.

Mary Thompson
EDINBURG - Mary Thompson, 102, formerly of Edinburg, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, in Winchester. She was the widow of Millard Austin Thompson, Sr.
She was born at Palmyra on Aug. 4, 1905. She was the daughter of the late Jacob Perry and Bessie Bailey Rush.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by a daughter-in-law, Jean E. Thompson, of Stephenson; three granddaughters, Penny Johnson, of Winchester, Sandra Pryor, of Edinburg, and Tammy Thompson, of Lebanon Church; two great-grandchildren, Jody Myers and Raine Johnson, both of Winchester.
The family received friends at the Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock, on Tuesday. There will be a graveside service, Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at Cedarwood cemetery, Edinburg, beginning at 2 p.m.
Richard Franklin Sonner
MARTINSVILLE - Richard Franklin Sonner died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at his home.
Mr. Sonner was born March 15, 1923, in Strasburg, son of the late Fred Brown Sonner and Mamie Maphis Sonner. In 1950 he received his bachelor degree in economics from the University of Virginia and retired after 35 years of service with DuPont Inc. in the accounting department. He was in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II and an active member of Broad Street Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Mary Lybrook Sonner; one daughter, Diane Eberly and husband Joe of Richmond; son, Richard Franklin Sonner Jr. of Greensboro, N.C.; and one granddaughter, Lauren Eberly of Radford College in Radford.
A funeral service was conducted Thursday, Oct. 11, at Broad Street Christian Church by Dr. James A. Dickerson and the Rev. Bob Button. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.

James Lewis Strother
THE PLAINS - James Lewis Strother, 87, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at Fauquier Hospital.
Mr. Strother was born Jan 5, 1920, near Delaplane, son of the late William Smith and Louise Delaplane Strother. He was a graduate of Marshall High School, attended Fork Union Military Academy and the University of Maryland. He was an Army veteran of World War II, receiving the Bronze Star. He had been a herdsman for Cobbler Mountain Farm and purchased Texas Farm, which he operated as a cattle farm. He was the husband of the late Katherine Ashby Leas Strother.
Surviving are three daughters, Katherine Lewis “Butter” Strother of The Plains, Mary Strother “Dee” Mulligan of Woodstock and Louie Delaplane Dobson of Middleburg; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was conducted Friday, Oct. 12, at Ivy Hill cemetery, Upperville, by the Rev. Rob Banse.

Ida Frances Zucconi
FRONT ROYAL - Ida Frances Zucconi, 92, formerly of Woodstock, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal.
Mrs. Zucconi was born April 28, 1915, in Sequals, Italy, daughter of the late Silvio and Madeline Del Frari Odorico. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Legion of Mary, the Red Hat Society, and former member of St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church. She was the wife of the late Joseph John Zucconi.
Surviving are four sons, Paul Zucconi of Plano, Texas, Joseph J. Zucconi Jr. of Reston, Peter Zucconi of Orrstown, Pa., and John Zucconi of Bridgewater; daughter, Peggy Neiberger of Quincy, Pa.; two brothers, John J. Odorico of Florida and Mario Odorico of Manning, S.C.; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A rosary service was held Sunday, Oct. 14, at Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock. Father Wilhelm Ettner conducted a funeral mass Monday, Oct. 15, at St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church. Burial followed in Sunset View Memorial Gardens, Woodstock.
