Albert "Flip" Deluca
Albert J. 'Flip' De Luca, 57, of Harrisonburg, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at his home.
Mr. De Luca was born Nov. 14, 1950, in Olean, N.Y., and was a son of the late Elizabeth and Albert D. De Luca.
He grew up in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, N.Y. in 1972.
He was a newspaper reporter and editor in Syracuse and in Stroudsburg, Pa., for five years before enrolling at Iowa State University, where he earned a master's degree in journalism and mass communication in 1979.
From 1979-2005, he taught print journalism at James Madison University and worked with The Breeze, the student newspaper. In 1995, he received the highest newspaper advising award from the College Media Advisers, the nation's largest college publications association.
Survivors include a brother, Mark De Luca of New Jersey, and two nieces.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

Shirley Franklin Smallwood Sr.
WOODSTOCK - Shirley Franklin Smallwood Sr., 79, died Friday, April 11, 2008, at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Smallwood was born Oct. 23, 1928, in Dover, Del., son of the late Shirley Lee Smallwood and Dollie Butler Smallwood Newland. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from VDOT after 37 years as an inspector. He was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Fairview.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine Rebecca Windle Smallwood, whom he married
March 11, 1961; daughter, Karla Smallwood Ortts of Edinburg; son, Shirley Franklin Smallwood Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; and one grandson.
The funeral service was conducted Tuesday, April 15, at Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock, by the Rev. Tim Nilsen. Burial was in Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock.

Janet Antoinette DellaGatta Southers
WINCHESTER - Janet Antoinette DellaGatta Southers, 79, died April 7, 2008, at her residence.
Mrs. Southers was born in 1928 in Washington, D.C., daughter of the late Joseph and Nellie Elizabeth DellaGatta. She worked as a bookkeeper, secretary and treasurer with J & W Landscaping for 52 years.
She married
James Lacy Southers on Aug. 3, 1946, in Arlington.
Surviving with her husband of 61 years are two daughters, Ann Southers Allison and husband Dave of Gore, and Judy Gail Dinges and husband Scott of Boyce; four grandchildren, Lacey Burnett of Boston, Mass., James Burnett of Winchester, Joe Southers and Janet Marie McKee, both of Boyce; two stepchildren, Courtney Dinges and Amanda Dinges, both of Woodstock; three great-grandchildren; and brother, John DellaGatta of Upper Marlboro, Md.
A funeral service was conducted Thursday, April 10, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with friends, Jim Holt and Bobby Silvia officiating. Interment was in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
John Douglas Turley
QUICKSBURG - John Douglas Turley, 90, died Monday, April 7, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Turley was born Sept. 16, 1917, in Washington County, son of the late Emory Leon and Linda Gregory Turley. He retired after 33 years of service as a driver for Mason-Dixon Trucking Co. He was a member of Manor Memorial United Methodist Church, Mount Jackson Masonic Lodge and Valley Saddle Club. He was the husband of the late Lila Mae Grubb Turley.
Surviving are a son, J.D. Turley of Waynesboro, Pa.; his companion, Mary Moomaw; granddaughter; and two great-grandsons.
The funeral service was conducted Thursday, April 10, at Manor Memorial United Methodist Church, New Market, by the Rev. James Burke. Burial, with a service by the Mount Jackson Masonic Lodge, was in Emmanuel Lutheran cemetery in New Market.

Edith Lucille Tusing
MOUNT JACKSON - Edith Lucille Tusing, 89, died Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Tusing was born Oct. 2, 1918, in Shenandoah County, daughter of the late Clarence Lemuel Estep and Ruth Rebecca Ryman Estep Tusing and stepdaughter of Charles L. Tusing. She was a former employee of Bowman Apple Products Inc. in Mount Jackson. She was devoted to family and church and best known for her homemaking skills, especially her coconut cream pie and peanut butter balls. She was a member of St. Luke’s (County Line) United Church of Christ in Timberville and a former Sunday School teacher.
She married
Otis F. Tusing on June 15, 1936; he preceded her in death March 23, 1999.
Surviving are three sons, Nelson Tusing, John Tusing and Freddie Tusing, all of Mount Jackson; two daughters, Carolyn Jennings and husband William of Edinburg, and Phoebe Bowman and husband Dennis of New Market.
A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, April, 15, at St. Luke’s (County Line) United Church of Christ by the Rev. Anil Solanki. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Elma Mae Heishman Vann
MOUNT JACKSON - Elma Mae Heishman Vann, 82, died Sunday, April 13, 2008, at Consulate Health Care of Woodstock.
Mrs. Vann was born May 1, 1925, in Perry, W.Va., daughter of the late Romanus and Ollie Mae Sager Heishman. She had been a certified nursing assistant at Creighton Manor in Timberville. She was the wife of the late Charles Earl “Hoppy” Vann. She dedicated her life to the care of others and her cats.
Surviving are a son, Kevin Vann of Mount Jackson; and three grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, at Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock, with the Rev. Cecil Haycock officiating. Burial will be in Toms Brook cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Hottinger, David Airhart, David Vann, Gary Burke, Dale Dodson and Travis Fansler. Honorary pallbearers will be Alvin Irwin and Bentley Heishman.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday fat the funeral home.

Barry Allen Wimer Sr.
TIMBERVILLE - Barry Allen Wimer Sr., 46, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Wimer was born Feb. 2, 1962, in Harrisonburg, son of Bernice Rose Wimer of Mount Jackson and the late Gilbert Wimer Sr. He was a fabricator at Mustang Market in Mayland. Surviving with his mother are three sons, Andrew H. Wimer of Harrisonburg, Barry A. Wimer Jr. and Jimmy L. Wimer, both of Broadway; two brothers, Nicky Wimer of Broadway and Gilbert Wimer Jr. of Mount Jackson; a sister, Patricia Custer of Broadway; his companion, Jeanne Heatwole; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service was conducted Sunday, April 13, at Grandle Funeral Home, Broadway, by the Rev. Erich Bennett.

FULKS RUN - Tony Edwin Wittig, 47, died Sunday, April 13, 2008, at his residence.
Mr. Wittig was born Nov. 28, 1960, in Harrisonburg, son of Gary W. and Joyce Reedy Wittig of Fulks Run. He was a contractor and stonemason.
In addition to his parents, surviving are a daughter, Amy Nichole Wittig Cousins of Mount Solon; two sons, Joshua Sky Wittig and Jordan Taylor Wittig, both of Waynesboro; two sisters, Lori Wittig Wilkins of Fulks Run and Cynthia Wittig Wimer of Harrisonburg; brother, Tim Wittig of Denver, Pa.; grandmothers, Grace E Reedy of Harrisonburg and Neva M. Wittig of New Market; and two grandchildren.
Pastor Kevin Gerber and the Rev. Steve Estep will officiate the graveside service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Whitmer cemetery in Fulks Run.
Eleanor June Allison
MAURERTOWN - Eleanor June Allison, 82, formerly of Chilton, Wis., died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007.
Mrs. Allison was born Jan. 25, 1925, in Waldo, Kan., daughter of the late Samuel P. and Hazel Maud O'Neill. She was the wife of the late Lute P. Allison.
Surviving are a son, D. Michael Allison of Maurertown; two daughters, Roberta Allison of Toms Brook and A. Porter O'Neill of Madison, Wis.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date.

Virginia Hedrick Beeler
STRASBURG - Virginia Hedrick Beeler, 97, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Beeler was born on Sept. 9, 1910, in Peterstown, W.Va., daughter of the Rev. James B. and Bessie Ellen Harouff Hedrick. She was retired from the Shenandoah County School System after 40 years of service as a second grade teacher. She was a graduate of Madison College, now James Madison University, was a member of the Col. Thomas Hughart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of Stover Camp Chapter U.D.C. She also was active in the Clarissa Massey Doll Club, having been a former president, and was a former docent for the Strasburg Museum. She was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church, where she had served on the administrative board, and taught Sunday school for 63 years. She was married
to John H. Beeler.
Surviving is a daughter, Laura Ellen Beeler Wade.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Strasburg United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dr. William N. Wade and Ed Winkler officiating. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery, Strasburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Ronald David Mace
(February 5, 1952 - September 25, 2013)
Ronald “Ronnie” David Mace, 61, of Grottoes, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Devlon Manor Nursing Home in Cumberland, MD, after a lengthy battle with dementia.
He was born in Harrisonburg, VA on February 5, 1952, and was the son of Lerttie and the late Dorothy S. Mace of Grottoes.
He graduated from Montevideo High School in 1970 and then worked in asphalt and paving, operating heavy equipment and driving semi-trucks. He loved bluegrass music, attending bluegrass festivals and watching western movies. His friends called him “Mountain Man”. He attended Landmark Tabernacle Church in McGaheysville until his health declined.
Ronnie is survived by two sons, Ronald Jason Mace and wife Amy of Grottoes; Adam David Mace of Port Republic; three grandchildren, Haley, Harley and Garrett Mace; a sister, Sandra Mace of Grottoes; a brother Bobby Mace and wife Cindy of Port Republic; two nephews, Brian and wife Becca; and Jeff Mace; a great niece, Shanya Mace; three great nephews, Jeffrey, Blake and Braxton Mace; and numerous cousins.
A graveside service will be held at Port Republic Mutual cemetery on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 2:00 PM.
The family will receive friends at Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 7-8 PM.
