Charles “Jack” Downey
CARLISLE, PA. - Charles “Jack” Downey, 78, died Saturday, April 12, 2008, at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Downey was born Oct. 21, 1929, in Edinburg, son of the late Charles Harrison and Gladys Viola Schaeffer Downey. He worked for Mason Dixon trucking company as a truck driver for 33 years. He was an employee of Carlisle Barracks Army War College as a chauffeur for VIP’s and drove the bus on the Barracks for 15 years for visiting war college students, some future generals. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Carlisle, and taught Sunday School at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Hamburg. He was a former member of The Strasburg Moose Family Center. He was an avid craftsman who enjoyed working with wood and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Irene Heishman Downey, whom he married
April 25, 1951; two sons, Dennis F. Downey and wife Sheri of Carlisle, Ronald Downey and companion Diane Costello of Strasburg; one daughter, Tamela Bare and husband Kenny of Fulks Run; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, B. Leon Downey of Martinsburg, W.Va., and William “Bill” Downey of Mount Jackson; one sister, Louise Beedle of Edinburg; one foster sister, Diane Greene of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 17, at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 219 North Hanover St., Carlisle, with the Rev. John L. Shellenberger Jr. officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Sunset View Memorial Gardens, Woodstock, with the Rev. Tom Perry co-officiating. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. on Thursday until the service in the funeral home.

Andrew R. Lahman
Andrew Richard Lahman, 41, of Elkton, died Friday, June 27, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital of cancer.
Andy was born Sept. 5, 1966, in Harrisonburg, and was the son of Richard Allen and Betty Williams Lahman of Elkton.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his fiancee, Lisa Fisher and her children, Christopher, Cesar and Gabriela Morales; a brother, Brent Allen Lahman of Greeley, Colo.; two sisters, Cynthia Lahman Smith of Ashburn, Va., and Diana Lahman DiBiase of Reston, Va.; and paternal grandmother, Evelyn Lahman of Elkton.
The family will receive friends Monday (today) June 30, 2008, at 5 p.m. and following a memorial service at 7 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Pastor Wayne Taylor will conduct the service. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Nancy P. Gosnell
NEW MARKET - Nancy P. Gosnell, 64, passed away Friday, April 11, 2008, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Gosnell was born in South Carolina on Feb. 29, 1944. She was the assistant county clerk for the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, retiring after 32 years of service. She also was a volunteer with Family and Child Community Education.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Beulah Penland and brother, David Penland.
Surviving are her husband, Ronald B. Gosnell; two daughters, Noelle D. Logan and husband Paul of Arlington, Nicole Marquis and husband Marc of Grafton, Mass.; her father, Carroll W. Penland of South Carolina; two stepsons, Ronald Gosnell and wife Heather of Goodyear, Ariz., and David Gosnell of Glendale, Calif.; five grandchildren, Danielle Logan, Thomas Logan, both of Arlington, Ashley Marquis and Alexander Marquis, both of Grafton, Ava Gosnell of Goodyear; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, April 15, at Found and Sons Lee Funeral Chapel, Manassas, by the Rev. H. G. Leach. Interment followed in Stonewall Memory Gardens.

Gary Knight
Gary Steven Knight, 57, of Harrisonburg, died Monday, May 5, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mr. Knight was born Aug. 21, 1950, in Elkton, and was a son of the late Ornie L. Knight and Lillian E. Meadows.
He was an Army veteran and worked for the City of Harrisonburg in Parks and Recreation until retiring.
His wife, Patricia C. Knight, preceded him in death March 26, 1997. They were married
Nov. 19, 1972.
Survivors include a son, Christopher B. Knight; a brother, Bobby R. Knight; a half brother, Boyd W. Knight; and a number of nieces and nephews.
No services will be held.

John Eugene Grim Sr.
STANLEY - John Eugene Grim Sr., 62, formerly of New Market, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at his home.
Mr. Grim was born Dec. 28, 1945, in New Market, son of the late Charles W. and Fannie Showns Grim. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in Vietnam. He was a retired truck driver and had also operated John’s Body Shop in New Market.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Bowman Grim, whom he married
Jan. 15, 1968; son, John E. Grim Jr. of Mount Jackson; two daughters, Teresa A. Sandusky of Stanley and Jennifer L. Dinges of Quicksburg; brother, Charles W. Grim Jr. of New Market; five sisters, Geneva Jackson of Weyers Cave, Helen Lambert of Harrisonburg, and Bettie Jackson, Shirley Mumaw and Doris Meva, all of New Market; eight grandchildren; and one step-grandchild.
The funeral service was conducted Sunday, April 13, at Theis Funeral Chapel, New Market, by the Rev. William Shifflett. Burial was in Emmanuel Lutheran cemetery in New Market.

Dwane "Mike" Michael
Dwane "Mike" Sherwood Michael, 68, of Verona, died April 25, 2008, at the VA Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Michael was born May 12, 1939, in Mount Solon, and was the son of the late Wright S. and Stella Howdyshell Michael.
Mike was a lifetime resident of the valley and was in the first class at the new Turner Ashby High School in Dayton and graduated in 1957. He served four years in the United States Navy, including two tours of duty on the U.S.S. Roosevelt. After 36 years of service as an electrician, he retired from Dupont Fibers in Waynesboro. He was a member of the A.F.&A.M. Eureka Lodge No. 195 and Bicentennial Lodge No. 1978, Woodman of the World, the National Rifle Association, Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren, and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Mike is affectionately remembered by family and friends who share his enthusiasm for a variety of activities, especially hunting and fishing.
Surviving family includes two daughters, Dorinda M. Walton of Midlothian and Melanie M. Fentress of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Gail Shull and husband, Gayle, of Bridgewater and Joan Michael of Harrisonburg; two grandchildren, Tate K. Walton and Jacob A. Fentress; four nephews and two nieces.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Glenn Bollinger officiating.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Private burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

Charlotte Hensell “Lennie” Hall
FRONT ROYAL - Charlotte Hensell “Lennie” Hall, 73, died April 8, 2008, at her home.
Mrs. Hall was born Dec. 30, 1934, in Warren County, daughter of the late Homer and Hazel Conner Hensell. She was a graduate of Warren County High School and retired after over 30 years service to the Aileen plant in Strasburg and Flint Hill. She also worked for 10 years at Kmart in Front Royal. She was a member of Salem Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are her loving husband of 54 years, Lynwood Hall; sister, Janet Price of Middletown; two brothers, Vernon Hensell of Reliance and Winston Hensell of Middletown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was conducted Friday, April 11, at Salem Church of the Brethren, Stephens City, by Brother David Sault. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Matthew Killian
NEW MARKET - Matthew Killian, 82, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at a local nursing home.
Mr. Killian was born Dec. 27, 1925, in Roosevelt, N.Y., son of Joseph P. and Regina Uhe Killian. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a Bible teacher and member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Harrisonburg.
Surviving are his wife, Sue Rabenstein Killian; stepdaughter, Monica Wilson of Staunton; two stepsons, Mark Raab of Woodstock and Paul Raab of Sacramento, Calif.; brother, Robert Killian of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and two step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Dick; and brother, Joseph P. Killian.
Services were private.

Clyde Louis Klinstiver
NEW MARKET - Clyde Louis Klinstiver, 64, died April 7, 2008, at Life Care Center of New Market.
Mr. Klinstiver was born Aug. 18, 1943, in Indiana, son of the late Clyde Turner and Louise Harris Klinstiver. He was a retired computer programmer for the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Surviving are two sisters, Elizabeth Schmidt of Edinburg and Patricia Klinstiver of Manassas.
A memorial service and burial will be held at a later date in Jeffersonville, Ind.

Darlene Dellinger Lindamood
EDINBURG - Darlene Dellinger Lindamood, 77, died April 7, 2008, at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Lindamood was born Feb. 24, 1931, in Hamburg, daughter of the late Lester A. and Nellie Holler Dellinger. She was a housewife and member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. She was the wife of the late Morgan Lindamood.
Surviving are two daughters, Frances Shafer and husband Gary, Brenda Swartz and husband David, all of Edinburg; two sons, Danny Lindamood and wife Bruccie, Tom Lindamood and wife Cathy, all of Edinburg; sister, Leanah Barb and husband Edward of Shenandoah; grandchildren, Tyler Lindamood and Colton Lindamood; two step-grandchildren, Jonathan Swartz and Candice Burner; and step great-grandson, Cole Swartz.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Gay Funkhouser and Hellen Crissman; and one grandchild.
The funeral service was conducted Sunday, April 13, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Hamburg, by Pastor David Roe. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Paul Lemuel Richards
LURAY - Paul Lemuel Richards, 78, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, in Luray.
Mr. Richards was born Dec. 1, 1929, in Luray, son of the late Edgar Lynn and Evelyn Mabel Cave Richards. He was a custodian for Page County School System for 15 years and was a member of Trinity Brethren Church.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Catherine Smelser Richards; three daughters, Robin Richards Runyon of Shenandoah, Geri Richards Bean and Paula Richards Billings, both of Luray; a son, Galen Richards of Stanley; adopted grandson, Eric Richards of Luray; two brothers, C. Wayne Richards of Orange and Randall H. Richards of New Market; five sisters, Karen Kay Richards Evans of Ashburn, Evelyn Jeanette Richards Gochenour of Luray, Wanda Joan Richards Crouch of Annandale, Deloris Sue Richards Roe of Lothian, Md., and Sharon Rose Richards Doe of Bealeton; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was conducted Sunday, April 13, at Leake’s Chapel cemetery, Stanley, by the Revs. Charles R. Turner and Mike Forney.

Peggy Lee LeDane Silvious
WOODSTOCK - Peggy Lee LeDane Silvious, 74, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at her home.
Mrs. Silvious was born Dec. 24, 1933, in Inwood, W.Va., daughter of the late Robert and Catherine Long LeDane. She retired as a casualty manager for Hartford Insurance Co. and was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Hamburg.
Surviving are her husband, Theodore Silvious; son, Jimmy Myers of Eustis, Fla.; daughter, Debbie Deyoe of Woodstock; her stepmother, Louise LeDane of Leesburg; two stepsons, Berry Silvious of Mount Jackson and Kenneth Silvious of Philadelphia; stepdaughter, Lana McNair of Edinburg; brother, Robert LeDane of South Carolina; two half sisters, Ruth LeDane of Sterling Park and Mary MacDonald of New Market; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was conducted Sunday, April 13, at Sunset View Memorial Gardens, Woodstock, by the Rev. David Roe.
