Edesel Wilson Walker
WOODSTOCK - Edesel Wilson Walker, 86, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2009, at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mr. Walker was born on Jan. 7, 1923, in Shenandoah County, and was a son of the late Norman D. and Rada Clark Walker. He was a graduate of Bridgewater College, farmer and real estate broker. He was a member of Columbia Furnace United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir and the Methodist Men. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Tyrell Clark and sister, Ruth Walker Brown.
He is survived by his brother, Clark Walker of Woodstock.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, March 8, at the Columbia Furnace United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Massanutten cemetery in Woodstock.

Juanita Frances Baker Wrenn
STRASBURG - Juanita Frances Baker Wrenn, 85, passed away on Thursday, March 5.
Mrs. Wrenn was born on April 1, 1923, in Shenandoah County, and was a daughter of the late Paul Pittman and Mildred Hockman Baker. She was a 1941 graduate of Strasburg High School. She was retired from Grand Union Grocery where she worked as a cashier. She was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wrenn dedicated many hours of her time volunteering in the community at the Strasburg Museum, the local senior citizen group, women of the church, a volunteer at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Apple Blossom Festival, and was avidly involved with the Women of The Moose Chapter 1319 of Strasburg. She was the widow of the late Edward Walker Jack Wrenn. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Quinton Baker, and a sister, Norma Jane Rudolph.
She is survived by her stepchildren, Edward W. Buddy Wrenn, Jr. Of Palatka, Fla., Jacquelyn W. Street of Grundy, Deborah Mears of Warrenton, Glen Lee of Hayfield, and Cynthia W. Sanders of Vienna; two brothers, Charles M. "Bubby" Baker and Max Baker both of Strasburg; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and her two loving care givers, Tannis Walker and Kathy Denton.
A funeral service was conducted on Monday, March 9, at the Strasburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edward P. Winkler officiating. Burial was in the Panorama Memorial Gardens, Warren County.

Helen Yew
WOODSTOCK - Helen Yew, 91, passed away on Sunday, March 8, at the Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Yew was born on Feb. 5, 1918, at St. Luke, and was a daughter of the late Joseph and Molly Coffelt Stultz.
A graveside service was conducted on Wednesday, March 11, at the Sunset View Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Howard Lutz.
Arrangements were handled by the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock.
Russell Elwood Burner
EDINBURG - Russell Elwood Burner, 86, passed away on Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at Blue Ridge Hospice Care Center.
Mr. Burner was born Feb. 9, 1922, in Woodstock, and was a son of the late Walter E. and Bessie Gochenour Burner. He was a refrigeration maintenance mechanic and a member of Maranatha Four Square Pentecostal Fellowship in Winchester; Business Men’s Fellowship and Gideons International. He was the husband of the late Rachel F. Burner.
He is survived by five sons, Tom Burner, Dick Burner, Dennis Burner and Bruce Burner all of Edinburg, and Harry Burner of Woodstock; a sister, Violet Bowers of Maurertown; a brother Farrell Burner of Keysville, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was conducted on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the Grace Baptist Church in Woodstock by Pastor Art W. Dunham. Burial was in the Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock.

Hazel Margarette Chase
FAIRFAX - Hazel Margarette Chase, 97, formerly of Woodstock, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009.
Mrs. Chase was born on Nov. 9, 1911, at Crete, Ill., and was a daughter of the late Ferris and Lillie Cook Gaines. She was a graduate of Lawrence University at Appleton, Wis. where she earned her degree and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She also attended the University of Wyoming. She was an active member of the Woodstock United Methodist Church and the Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol LaCovey of The Villages, Fla.; four grandchildren, David LaCovey of Pittsburgh, Pa., Holly Ashley of Sterling, Jacqueline Jones of Davie, Fla., and Renee Zumbaugh of Bristow and eleven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was conducted on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Dellinger Funeral Home. Interment was at the Sunset View Memorial Gardens.

Josephine Newman Davis
WOODSTOCK - Josephine Newman Davis, 96, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at Greenfield Senior Living in Woodstock.
Mrs. Davis was born on Feb. 24, 1912, in Woodstock, and was a daughter of the late Wilbur Lauck and Ruth Koontz Newman. She was preceded in death by her husband, John "Nick" Davis, Sr.
She is survived by her son, John N. Davis, Jr. and wife, Theresa of Woodstock with whom she made her home; a daughter, Jacqueline Schneider and companion, Marc Grigsby of Elkins, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Josephine Wagoner of Franklin, W.Va., Christine Schneider of Morgantown, W.Va., Justin Davis of Edinburg, Nichole Lang of Rustburg, and Craig Hammond of Woodstock; and six great-grandchildren, Summer Krantz, Mandy Krantz, Joshua Wagoner, Jenna Wagoner, Cullen Hammond and Mya Lang.
A private memorial graveside service will be held at a later date in Massanutten cemetery in Woodstock.
Nettie Moreno Felimer
STAR TANNERY - Nettie Moreno Felimer, 90, passed away on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, John and L. Elaine Jackson.
Mrs. Felimer was born in Makaweli, Kauai, Hawaii on July 23, 1918, and was a daughter of the late Augustine and Olahea Louisa Mabalo Moreno of Kauai, Hawaii. She was the wife of the late, Perfecto Laugan Felimer from the Philippines.
She is survived by her children, Gloria Ann Ebalaroza of Waipahu, Oahu, Hawaii, Richard Felimer of Pearl City, Oahu, Hawaii, Anita Lorraine Lafrenz of Mahwah, N.J., Rosa Linda Litton of Alpharetta, Ga., Leonora Elaine Jackson of Star Tannery, Eugene "Gene" Felimer of Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, Arlene Joanne Jansen of Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii, and Natalie Louise Felimer of Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii; nineteen grandchildren; thirty three great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was conducted on Friday, Feb. 6, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Woodstock, with Father Wilhelm Ettner officiating. She will be laid to rest in Mililani Memorial Park, Mililani, Oahu, Hawaii.

Lenna Irene Saum Fleming
WOODSTOCK - Lenna Irene Saum Fleming, 92, widow of Miller Fleming, passed away at Royal Haven on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009.
Mrs. Fleming was born May 21, 1916, in Shenandoah County and was a daughter of the late Chester Clarence and Nora Mae Kibler Saum. She was a member of Patmos Lutheran Church.
She is survived by four sisters, Louise McInturff of Toms Brook, Evelyn Conner of Strasburg, Fleda Dyke of Toms Brook, and Anna Lee Miller of Strasburg.
A funeral service was conducted on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the Dellinger Funeral Home, by the Rev. George Feildman. Burial was in the Sunset View Memorial Gardens.

Lona Sue "Susie" Howard
FORT VALLEY - Lona Sue "Susie" Howard, 56, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at her home in Fort Valley.
Mrs. Howard was born in Woodstock on Sept. 2, 1952, and was a daughter of the late Waymon Lewis Lively and Bonnie Marie Crouch. She was a professional volunteer for her community for over 20 years beginning with helping The Fort Valley Ladies Auxiliary. She was one of the original members of Woodstock Rescue Squad-Fort Valley Substation. She was a member of The Critical Incident Stress Management Team.
Mrs. Howard worked with Va. Department of Forestry mostly doing educational fire prevention programs for children. She was a member of Master Gardeners and used her training to teach Firewise Landscaping. She was the Volunteer Recruitment and Retention Coordinator and Prevention and Education Coordinator for Shenandoah County Fire and Rescue.
She is survived by her husband Larry Howard of Fort Valley and her children, Nicole Riffey and husband of Woodstock, and Robert Derrick Wall of Atlanta, Ga. Two sisters, Linda Wilson of Toms Brook, and Diana Dean and husband, Joe Dean of Denton, Md., and three grandchildren Brittany, David and Rachelle. She was predeceased by one brother, the late David Lively of Woodstock.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, at the Dellinger Funeral Home with Pastor Lance Braun officiating. The scattering of her ashes will be a private ceremony at a later date.

Mrs. Marion Joan Martz
NEW MARKET - Mrs. Marion Joan Martz, 76, passed away on Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at the Life Care Center in New Market.
Mrs. Martz was born in Shenandoah County on June 7, 1932, and was a daughter of the late Marguerite Alice Phillips. She was a retired poultry processor for Rockingham Poultry in Timberville. She was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church in New Market but had been attending the Wood's Chapel Independent Bible Church near New Market. She was married
to the late Robert Lee Martz, Jr., who died on Aug. 9, 1992.
She is survived by two sons, Ronnie Martz of Mount Jackson and Bobby Martz of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Pat Hill of New Market; a brother, Donald Lee Phillips of Belleville, Ill.; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and step grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Glen Turner.
Velma Paige McIlwee
STRASBURG - Velma Paige McIlwee, 81, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Mcllwee was born in Wytheville, on Sept. 18, 1927, and was a daughter of the late Walter Ray and Mabel Matilda Lewellyn Sult. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. She was the widow of Wayne McIlwee. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Eloise "Dee" Weatherly, a sister, Lois Vaught, and two brothers, Elmer Sult and Tommie Sult.
She is survived by her children, Peggy Snider and husband, Robert of Linden, Linda Couchman and husband, Richard of Inwood, W.Va., Bonnie Heuring and husband, Thomas of Springville, Ind.; her step-children, Wayne McIlwee and wife Alice of Louisa, Kenneth McIlwee and wife, Martha of Stevensburg; her brothers and sister, Eugene Sult and wife, Beatrice of Norfolk, Nancy Cregger of Wytheville, and Dennis Sult and wife, Carol of Wytheville; eleven grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; numerous great and step great grandchildren; and good friend, John Baker of Fishers Hill.

Henry Russell Reynard, Sr.
STRASBURG - Henry Russell Reynard, Sr., 84, passed away on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at his home in Strasburg.
Mr. Reynard was born in Sterling on April 9, 1924, and was a son of the late George Brenton and Mertie Clem Reynard. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served in World War II aboard the LST 360. He was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cora Irene Arnold Reynard of Strasburg; his children, Patricia Ann Sheldon and husband, Ronald of Paicines, Calif., Henry R. Reynard, Jr. and wife, Lorraine of Luray, Calvin Brent Reynard and wife, Toni of Tucson, Ariz., and Amy Joy Shepley and husband, James of Winchester; one brother, Francis Reynard and wife, Judy of Orlando, Fla.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

William Henry Rudolph
WOODSTOCK - William Henry Rudolph, 87, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at the Greenfield Assisted Living.
Mr. Rudolph was born at Zepp on July 11, 1921, and was a son of the late Hersel and Daisy Williams Rudolph. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II with the 88th Division. He was a member of the VFW Post #2447, the Woodstock American Legion Post #199, and Emanuel Lutheran Church, Woodstock.
He is survived by his son, Randall W. Rudolph and wife, Joan of Jeffersonton; a daughter, Jan Rudolph Jarrett and husband, Rob of Quicksburg; and a sister, Peggy Bauserman of Middletown.
A funeral service was conducted on Sunday, Feb. 8, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Massanutten cemetery.
Ruth Hansbrough
Ruth "Dernie" Turner Hansbrough, 78, of Elkton, died Sunday, May 25, 2008, at MontVue Nursing Home in Luray.
Mrs. Hansbrough was born Sept. 25, 1929, in Rockingham County, and was the daughter of the late Earl and Bessie Lam Comer.
She was a lifetime resident of the area. She was a seamstress at Sleepwear for 35 years and was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, William "Billy" R. Turner of Elkton and Robert "Butch" R. Turner of Shenandoah; a daughter, Patricia "Patti" G. Dovel of Elkton; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one niece.
Pastor Billy King will conduct the funeral 4 p.m. Wednesday at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Burial will follow at the Baugher family cemetery in Sandy Bottom.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 this evening at the funeral home.
