Brandy Elaine Walters
WOODSTOCK - Brandy Elaine Walters, 33, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2009, peacefully with her family at her side at Winchester Medical Center.
Brandy was born on Jan. 27, 1976, in Woodstock. She was a graduate of Central High School and Lord Fairfax Community College. She attended St. Luke Brethren Church and was an employee of Feather Dusters. She was a very special person with a beautiful smile and a loving heart. She was a hard worker who gave of herself, especially to her little boy, Gage.
She is survived by her father and mother, Daniel E. and Adrianne Burner of Woodstock; a son, Gage Walters; two brothers, Joshua Burner and wife, Jennifer and James Burner and companion, Kayla Fishel of Woodstock; a loving and devoted companion, Aaron Delawder of Woodstock; grandparents, Rosezella Burner of Edinburg, Lula Omps of Woodstock, and Norman and Goldyne Sager of Mount Jackson; special nieces, Emily, Kylie and Sarah Kate; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Joyce Omps Burner.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, July 15, at Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock by the Rev. Anthony Keim. Burial was in Smith cemetery, Fort Valley.
Memorial contributions may be made to Brandy's favorite charity, The American Cancer Society.
Dixie Marguerite Wilson
KITZMILLER, MD - Dixie Marguerite Wilson, 100, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Country House in Cumberland.
Mrs. Wilson was born on Oct. 24, 1908, in Kitzmiller, Md., and was the daughter of the late William Daniel and Mary Ann Tibbetts Walker. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a Kindergarten and first-grade teacher in Kitzmiller, Md. and Strasburg. She walked three to five miles every day in the mountains of Garret County, Md. for many years, well into her 90's. She was recognized numerous times by the American Heart Association with silver and gold hearts which she proudly displayed and wore on a favorite sweat shirt. She had walked the equivalent of going across the United States and back. She was a devoted mother, loved her family, and enjoyed nature. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Kitzmiller, Md. and the Strasburg Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by two sons, Jonathan Wilson and wife Donna of Winchester, and Thomas P. Wilson of Oakland, Md.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hollis Wilson.
A funeral service was conducted Saturday, July 11, with the Rev. Angie Cosner officiating.
Internment was in I.O.O.F. cemetery in Elk Garden, W.Va.

Lillian Virginia Snarr Bly
STRASBURG - Lillian Virginia Snarr Bly, 86, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2009, at her home in Strasburg.
Mrs. Bly was born on Aug. 2, 1922, in Orkney Springs, and was the daughter of the late John W. and Grace Sherman Whitmer. She worked at National Fruit Product Company and Aileen, Inc., in Strasburg. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church at Clary, where she formerly served as treasurer.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William C. Snarr and second husband, Cyril D. Bly; two step-sons, James Bly and Harry T. Bly, and a step granddaughter, Tammy Fishel.
She is survived by a son, William A. Snarr and wife, Natalie of Strasburg; step-daughters, Patsy Hockman, and Nancy Funkhouser both of Strasburg, and Ruth Ann Moore of Olustee, Fla.; step-sons, William Bly of Lewisburg, Pa. and Terry Bly of Montandon, Pa.; 13 step grandchildren; 15 step great-grandchildren; 11 step great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend Gloria Himelright.
A funeral service was conducted on Thursday, June, 18, at the Shiloh United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jody Osborne officiating.
Burial was in the Massanutten cemetery, Woodstock.

Bruce Russell "Rusty" Tate
(March 15, 1963 - April 18, 2013)
Bruce Russell “Rusty” Tate, 50, of Grottoes, died April 18, 2013 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Bruce was born in Los Angeles, CA on March 15, 1963. His parents, Samuel G. and Minnie A. Hurst Tate preceded him in death, as did his brother, Thomas Edmund Tate.
Bruce enjoyed the outdoors and was quite the water enthusiast. He loved the ocean and also really enjoyed lakes and rivers. He was an ardent Redskins fan and enjoyed cooking.
Bruce moved to Virginia following the death of his parents. In Virginia, Bruce found the love of his life, his fiancé’, Karen Sites. They have spent the past 20 years as an inseparable couple. Bruce had a special place in his heart for his “grandchildren”, D.J. Gibson, of Grottoes and Gabrielle Gibson, of North Carolina. He is also survived by his sister; Mary Katherine Spagnoletti and husband Vince, of Las Vegas, NV, his brother; Wilford G. “Bill” Tate and wife Debra, of Linville, and five nieces; Tiffany, Shayna, Lindsey, Amy, and Tracy.
At the request of Bruce, there will not be a memorial service.
In lieu of memorial contributions or flowers, Bruce requested, in his memory, that anyone so inclined, simply perform a good deed for someone in need.
Norene Sue Buranen
STRASBURG - Norene Sue Buranen, 68, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2009.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bruce W. Buranen, of Strasburg; beloved daughters and son-in-laws, Beth Ann and Brian Bautz, Toni Lynne Buranen and Franz Misch and Dana Jayne Swett; brother, Gaylord Groenke; proud Nana/Nanny to Thor, Zachary, Jacob, Jasper, Phineas and Baby Beatrice; many loving nieces and nephews and a wealth of additional relatives and friends.
A memorial mass was held on Thursday, June 18, at the St. John the Evangelist Church, 271 Winchester St., Warrenton. James Nevin Gorsuch
BEAUFORT, S.C. - James Nevin Gorsuch, 69, formerly of Edinburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, after a short but valiant battle with brain cancer.
Mr. Gorsuch was born on May 11, 1940, in Everett, Pa. and was the son of the late Thomas George Gorsuch and Edith Marie Snyder Gorsuch. On Feb. 4, 1961, he married
Doris Lee Polk, daughter of Lester Earl and Margie Jane Fadeley Polk. He was known as “Jim” to his friends and family in Virginia and South Carolina and “Nev,” by his family and friends in Pennsylvania. He learned the plumbing trade from his father, working in the family business. He came to Woodstock to pursue his education at Massanutten Military Academy from where he graduated in 1960. He became a very successful plumbing contractor and owner of “Jim's Plumbing.” He retired to Beaufort, S.C. some years ago.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Gorsuch.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Doris; daughter and son-in-law, Diane Leigh and Benjamin “Benny” Frye, of Beaufort, S.C.; a grand-daughter, Denise Jane Runion, of Edinburg, a brother and sister-in-law, William “Bill” and Kay Gorsuch, of Everett, Pa.; sister-in-law, Shirley Gorsuch, of Carlisle, Pa., several nephews, a niece, and their families.
A funeral service was held on Monday, June 15, at the Dellinger Funeral Chapel in Woodstock. A graveside service and burial was held on Tuesday June 16, at the Everett United Methodist Church cemetery in Everett, Pa.
Dalla Valle Funeral Services of Everett, Pa. handled the graveside service and arrangements. A gathering to celebrate Gorsuch's life will be held later this month in Beaufort, S.C.
Arrangements were handled by the Anderson Funeral Home in Beaufort, S.C., and the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock.
Ann B. Helsley
EDINBURG - Ann B. Helsley, 71, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2009, at the Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Helsley was born on Feb. 18, 1938, in Martinsburg, W.Va. She retired from Aileen Inc. and formerly worked at Sunrise Cafe. She was a member of the Maurertown Brethren Church.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Putman.
She is survived by her husband Grayden E. Helsley; three sons Wayne E. Helsley and wife Dorie of Oranda, Gary L. Helsley of Winchester, and Brian Kelly Helsley of Edinburg; two sisters, Betty Orndorff of Maurertown, and Elva May Mitchell of Front Royal; six grandchildren Crystal St. Clair and husband Randy, Michael Helsley and wife Victoria, Cory Helsley, Mia Helsley, Kirstie Helsley, and Ahne Helsley; four great-grandchildren Cody St. Clair, Samantha St. Clair, Noah St. Clair and Sylas Helsley.
A graveside service was held on Thursday, June 18, at the Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock by the Rev. Richard Craver officiating.
Paul Joseph Manchey, Jr.
STRASBURG - Paul Joseph Manchey, Jr., 63, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at the Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Manchey was born on July 31, 1945, in Richmond, and was the son of the late Paul J. and Mary O'Brien Manchey, Sr. He was a member of St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church in Woodstock where he served as lector for a number of years and taught classes. He was a graduate of the University of Richmond and the University of Maryland. He taught political science at Lord Fairfax Community College's Middletown campus, having retired in 1980.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Albright Manchey and a sister, Carol Ann Kahwajy of Amelia.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, June 19 at the St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church in Woodstock with Father Paul Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Panorama Memorial Gardens, Warren County.

Rosalie Lambert Newell
STRASBURG - Rosalie Lambert Newell, 83, passed away on June 14, 2009, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, at the Greenfield Reflections.
Mrs. Newell was born on Nov. 9, 1925 in Portland, Ore. She had a great love for the Shenandoah River Estates and was loved and cared for by many friends and family where she resided for many years. She spent her earlier years traveling the world. In her youthful age of 60, she learned to slalom water ski and enjoyed kayaking in her 70's. Known as "Rosie" to her friends and family, she was respected and loved by many and will be missed by all. Her strong sense of independence and strength will forever be with us.
She is survived by a son Scott J. Newell; son and daughter-in-law Jay and Patricia T. Newell; 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Roseline W. Bryan
(July 5, 1920 - July 6, 2011)
Roseline Wampler Bryan, 91, formerly of Walnut Grove, Silver Lake Road in Dayton, died Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Bridgewater Retirement Home. Rosie was born in Harrisonburg on July 5, 1920, the daughter of Fred C. and Laura Miller Wampler. She graduated from Dayton High School and then Madison College with a B.S. degree in Home Economics. She taught Home Economics at New Market High School and operated the community cannery for several years.
On August 28, 1945 Rosie married
George E. Bryan who preceded her in death on June 3, 2003. She was actively involved in the family farming operations with her husband where they raised cattle, sheep and turkeys on the family farms in Rockingham and Highland Counties.
Rosie was a member of the Dayton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School classes and sponsored the Youth Fellowship group for many years. She served on the church Board of Trustees as well as various committees. Rosie's support of the community includes membership in the Dayton American Legion Auxiliary where she worked regularly in fundraising activities for that organization. She also volunteered for many years at the Bridgewater Home using her sewing skills to assist the residents and their needs. She was active in the Dayton School PTA, served as a leader in the Dayton 4-H club, and founded the Dayton Brownie Troop in support of her daughters. Her skills in home economics were in demand for many sewing classes for many Dayton 4-H members. She served as a judge for various homemaking competitions at the Rockingham County Fair.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Jane B. Custer, and her sister Janet W. Zirkle. She is survived by children Betty B. Dove, Nancy and Bob Wiskeman, and Peggy S. Bryan; son-in-law John Custer and Sandy Harman; grandchildren Boyd and Patty Dove, Laura Wiskeman, Bryan and Christy Wiskeman and Brandon Custer; great-grandchildren Cody Dove and Katie Dove. She is also survived by her devoted caregivers Sally Buracker and Cathy Thompson.
Family will receive friends Friday, July 8, 2011 from 7 until 8 p.m. at Lantz Chapel in Bridgewater Home, or anytime at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater.
A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011, at Dayton cemetery with Rev. Steve Bird officiating.

Anna Katheryn Orndorff Kerr Pepper
WINCHESTER - Anna Katheryn Orndorff Kerr Pepper, 90, passed away on Thursday June 11, 2009, at the Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Facility.
Mrs. Pepper was born on Sept. 29, 1918, in Zepp, and was the daughter of Warner and Mary Agnes Orndorff. She was employed by National Fruit Products for 40 years before her retirement. She was a faithful member of Grace Evangelical Church for 66 years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel Kerr and her second husband, Lionel B. Pepper; her son Jack R. Kerr; sister Marguerite Orndorff and a brother Daniel D. Orndorff.
She is survived by two sons; Jerry P. Kerr and wife Carol of Winchester, John W. Kerr of Winchester; daughter-in-law, Joanie Kerr of Germantown, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Jack Rodney Kerr, II of Germantown, Robin Jeanne Simmers and husband Douglas of Arlington, Tenn., Richard Michael Kerr and wife Melanie of Bartlett, Tenn., Robert Edward Kerr and wife Andrea of Oakland, Tenn., Gregory Scott Kerr and wife Jill of Winchester and David C. Kerr and wife Kristi of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, June 13, at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. James H. Utt and the Rev. Martha M. Sims officiating. Burial was in the Wardensville cemetery.
