Odessa Kick Kipps Litten
FAIRFAX - Odessa Kick Kipps Litten, 82, died on Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at Halquist Memorial Hospice Center in Arlington.
She was born on Sept. 25, 1928, in Shenandoah County and was a daughter of the late Edward and Bernie Sine Kipps.
Mrs. Litten was a 1946 graduate of Edinburg High School and a member of Fairfax Presbyterian Church.
On Oct. 14, 1949, she married
James “Jim” Litten, who survives.
She is survived by a son, Rick Litten of Woodstock.
A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, Dec. 17, at 1 p.m., at the Woodstock Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Henry Brinton officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Memorial Gardens, Mount Jackson. Reception will follow at Hanley Hall, St. John Bosco RCC.
Pallbearers will be Todd Litten, Jeffrey Litten, Ronald Litten, Roy Frazier, Gary Dalton and Steve Pistolessi.

Hattie Mae Mel
KEARNEYSVILLE, WVA - Hattie Mae Melton, 73, died on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at her home.
She was born on Jan. 4, 1936, in Lucketts, and was a daughter of the late Isaac and Ruth Loy Fletcher.
Mrs. Melton was a cook for many years for K-Mart. She was a member of Mt. Hope Baptist Church in Arcola.
She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Mongold of Kearneysville, WV and Karen Moore of Middleburg; two sons, Charles Melton, Jr. of Dover, DE and Gregory Melton of Fort Valley; two sisters, Lucille Osborne of White Hall and Janie Delph of Mt. Airy, NC; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
A funeral was conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Faith Lutheran Church, Fort Valley with Pastor T.J. Delph. Burial was in Cross Roads cemetery, Fort Valley.

Helen Josephine Smith
(September 20, 1937 - June 19, 2011)
Helen Josephine Smith, 73, of Weyers Cave, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Harrisonburg Health & Rehabilitation Center in Harrisonburg.
Helen was born in Riverton, WV, on September 20, 1937, and was a daughter of the late Robert and Ina (Dove) Smith.
She attended Christ Tabernacle Church in Harrisonburg.
On August 6, 1960, she was united in marriage to Glen Smith, who survives.
Helen is also survived by three daughters, Cathy Loya of Pleasant Valley, Lisa Benitez and husband David of Pleasant Valley; Linda Flores and husband Rey of Grottoes; a son, Glenn Smith of Grottoes; four sisters, Eva Rodeffer of Rawley Springs, Nida Caplinger and husband Burton of Harrisonburg, Ina Cook and husband Clarence of Bridgewater, Sue Gery and husband Robert of Grottoes; five brothers, Robert Smith and wife Betty of Harrisonburg, Harold Smith and wife Donna of Crownsville, MD, Paul Smith and wife Violet of Broadway, John Smith and wife Donna of Mount Solon and David Smith and wife Maryann of Broadway. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald and Merl Smith.
A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater, with Jeremy Poling officiating. Burial will follow at Sangerville Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the funeral home.
Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater is in charge of the arrangements.
Marvin Lee Mumaw
STRASBURG - Marvin Lee Mumaw, 70, died on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at Winchester Medical Center.
He was born on Jan. 19, 1940, in Shenandoah County and was a son of the late Brook Thomas and Thelma Marie Polk Mumaw.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie F. Putman Mumaw of Strasburg; a daughter, Deborah M. Senseney of Broomfield, CO; a sister, Charlotte Porsche of Strasburg; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; step-children, Gary Wymer and Marlene Jefferson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Faye Mumaw Himelright.
A memorial service was conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Stover Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Edward P. Winkler officiating.

Nina L. Pangle
TOMS BROOK - Nina L. Pangle, 95, died on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at her residence.
She was born on March 15, 1915, in Lebanon Church and was a daughter of the late Jacob F. and Mary E. Singhass Lindamood.
Mrs. Pangle was a member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church. She retired from Aileen Inc. having worked twenty eight years.
She is survived by a son, Dennis W. Pangle of Strasburg; two daughters, Mary P. Chapmon, Reidsville, NC and Judy A. Pangle of Toms Brook; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy P. Palmer; a brother, Paul H. Lindamood; and two sisters, Elizabeth K. Pingley and Ruby Himelright.
A graveside service was conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Lebanon Church cemetery with the Rev. Wendell Schurtz officiating.

Donna Marie Ferguson Showman
WOODSTOCK - Donna Marie Ferguson Showman, 57, died on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at Greenfield Adult Home in Woodstock.
She was born on June 10, 1953, in Woodstock and was a daughter of the late William Jennings Ferguson and Estelle Elizabeth Edenton Ferguson.
Mrs. Showman was a devoted classmate of the Central High School Class of 1971. She worked for the Free Press in Woodstock and was a member of Toms Brook United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis D. Showman of Woodstock; two sons, Daniel M. Showman of Yuma, AZ and Deric D. Showman of Woodstock; two brothers, W. Kenneth Wright of Woodstock and Stanley E. Wright Jr. of Strasburg; and three grandchildren.
A funeral service was conducted on Sunday, Dec. 12, at Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock by Pastor Mary Louise Brown. Burial was in Toms Brook cemetery.

Dolores Ann Smith
BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV - Dolores Ann Smith, 79, died on Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at her residence.
She was born on Dec. 12, 1932, in Strasburg and was a daughter of Ezra and Anna Walters Henry.
Mrs. Smith worked for the Acme Company as a clerk until her retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs and was a member of the Winchester Women's Bowling League.
On June 14, 1952, she married
her husband, Carroll D. Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra Byrd of Berkeley Springs; a granddaughter; a sister, Judy Jennings of Front Royal; and a brother, David Henry of Waynesboro, GA. She was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Henry.
A funeral service was conducted on Thursday, Dec. 16, at Jones Funeral Home Chapel, Winchester with Pastor Andrew Conney and Pastor Rob officiating. Burial was in Refuge United Methodist Church cemetery.

Lewis Milton Sowers, Sr.
BERRYVILLE - Lewis Milton Sowers, Sr., 87, died on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at the Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center.
He was born on Aug. 10, 1923, in Middleburg and was a son of Hubert Sowers and Eva Moore Grey Sowers.
Mr. Sowers was retired from E.E. Lines where he was a heavy equipment operator.
He had served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
On Nov. 20, 1948, he married
Mary Kathleen Keefer Sowers, who survives.
He is survived by three daughters, Eva Louise Suddueth of Winchester, Wanda Kay Hobert of Ashburn and Trudy April Johnson of IL; two sons, Lewis Milton Sowers, Jr. of NH and Larry Middleton Sowers, Sr. of Edinburg; three sisters, Louise Hudson of Warrenton, Peggy Mathis of GA and Nancy Jewell of NC; four brothers, Richard Lee Sowers, Robert Sowers, James Sowers and Jack Sowers all of Warrenton; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Sowers; a sister, Eva Katherine Sowers; and two brothers, Frenchie and Delbert Sowers.
A funeral service was conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at the Enders and Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville with the Rev. Adam Sowder officiating. Burial was in Green Hill cemetery, Berryville. Military honors were provided by the Berryville VFW post 9760.
Wilfred Bayliss Trenary
STEPHENS CITY - Wilfred Bayliss Trenary, 91, died on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at the Winchester Medical Center.
He was born on July 27, 1919, in Berryville and was a son of Colin and Maude Bayliss Trenary.
Mr. Trenary served his country in the US Army during W.W.II. He served in the 29th Infantry Division, 29th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was combat wounded twice in Aug. of 1944 and received a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He retired from O'Sullivan Corporation as a Plastic Compounder. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Middletown.
In June 1955, he married
Anna Headley Trenary, who survives.
He is survived by his daughters, Denise Kuykendall of Winchester, Sharon Trenary of Stephens City and Sherry Fleming of Toms Brook; a son, Gregory Trenary of Strasburg; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Hovan; and a brother, Kenneth Trenary.
All services were private. Burial was in Mt. Carmel cemetery, Middletown.

Hilda Catherine Bauserman Wolfe
TOMS BROOK - Hilda Catherine Bauserman Wolfe, 88, died on Sunday, Dec.12, 2010, at Consulate Health Care, Woodstock.
She was born on Aug. 1, 1922, in Toms Brook and was a daughter of the late Martin Luther Bauserman Sr. and Elva Catherine Senseney Bauserman.
Mrs. Wolfe was a graduate of Toms Brook High School and retired from Avtex in Front Royal in 1986. She was a member of Toms Brook United Methodist Church and the Ladies Aux. of the Woodstock American Legion.
She is survived by six sisters, Geraldine Gagnon of GA, Maryanna Lichliter and Sarah Jane Bagnell, both of Strasburg, Shirley Mauck, Kay Wetzel and Fay Layman, all of Woodstock; three brothers, Floyd Bauserman of Strasburg, Martin L. Bauserman Jr. and Clark Bauserman both of Woodstock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Kermit Wolfe Jr.; a brother, Ray Bauserman; and a sister, Louise Totten.
A graveside service was conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Sunset View Memorial Gardens, Woodstock, by the Reverend Joe Klotz, Jr. officiating.

Robert James Etter II
MOUNT JACKSON - Robert James Etter II, 60, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrison-burg.
Mr. Etter was born Feb. 18, 1945, in Washington, D.C., son of the late Robert James and Catherine Darnall Etter.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a procurement analyst for the U.S. government.
Surviving are his wife, Jane Dale Etter, two sons, Timothy A. Etter and Jonathan C. Etter, both of Mount Jackson; three sisters, Jane Sturgis of Exmore, Shirley Gorham of Culpeper and Josie Gorham of Hedgesville, W.Va.; a brother, James P. Etter of Fairfax and a grandson.
Father Leo Zonneveld will conduct a graveside service at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Culpeper National cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Mount Jackson.
