Glenn C. Coffman, 86

Glenn Cromer Coffman, 86, a resident of Harrisonburg, died Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Coffman was born on February 3, 1923 in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Hinton Michael and Ella Lee Coffman. Mr. Coffman graduated from Mt. Clinton High School and served in the United States Army during WWII. He was involved in the D-Day Invasion of Omaha Beach, as a member of the 747th Tank Battalion. Mr. Coffman served in the European Theater until the end of WWII. In 1981, he retired from American General Insurance as a district manager. He was a member of the 29th Infantry Division Association, the Izaak Walton League and was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. Mr. Coffman was an avid outdoorsman. On June 21, 1947, he married
the former Janet Hollar who survives. Also surviving are one son Greg Coffman and wife Betty of Harrisonburg; one sister, Elizabeth Revercomb and husband Glen of Harrisonburg; four nieces and nephews, Betty Yoder and husband George, Deb Glover, Charles Lee Coffman and wife Marybeth, and Carol Sipe and husband Earl. Mr. Coffman was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Coffman. Reverend Glen Langston will conduct a graveside service at Singers Glen cemetery on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Friends may meet at 1:30 p.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel prior to proceeding to the cemetery. David H. Eye, 78

David Henry Eye, 78, a resident of Hinton, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Eye was born on May 13, 1931 in Rawley Springs, and was the son of the late Roy and Bessie Payne Eye. He was employed by Tyson Foods and recently worked part time for the Harrisonburg Water Department. He was a member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church. On August 31, 1968, he married
the former Mary Ellen Reid who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Roger lee Eye of Rawley Springs, Danny Eye of Grottoes, Tommy Eye of Briery Branch, Roy Eye of Rawley Springs; one daughter, Cynthia Mabe of Powatan; eight brothers and sisters, Everette Eye of Rawley Springs, Sylvia Wheelbarger of Clover Hill, Reba Simmons and Lillie Simon both of Hinton, Nancy Pennington of Ottobine, Polly Lambert of Briery Branch, Betty Han of Franklin, Bill Eye, of Harrisonburg; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Eye was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Berlin Eye and two sisters, Donna Eye and Mary Kagey. Reverend Isaac Harper will conduct a graveside service on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Horeb cemetery. Sheldon Vandevander, 59, a resident of Timberville, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009. Mr. Vandevander was born on September 19, 1950 in Rockingham County was the son of Martha L. Vandevander Hall. He was a volunteer for the Timberville Fire Department and a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren. On February 20, 1971, he married
Kay Vandevander who preceded him in death on September 9, 2008. Surviving are four children, Leroy Cave, Tony Cave, Cory Cave and Connie Roberts; three brothers, Ben Hall, Jr., Jim Hall, Tim Hall; seventeen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Timberville - Bobby Gene Pennington, 59, a resident of 400 Lone Pine Drive, Apt. GG4, Timberville, died Monday, March 30, 2009 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Pennington was born on July 9, 1949 in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Robert and Doris Vandevander Pennington. Surviving are two sons, Christopher Andrews, Harrisonburg, Donald Sutherly and wife Toy, Timberville; one daughter, Joy Sutherly; one sister Joyce Sutherly, Grottoes; and seven grandchildren, Eric Sutherly, Ashley Earman, A.J. Hedrick, Michael Lytle, Amanda Andrews, Kristin Andrews, D.J. Sutherly. Reverend Curtis Hensley will conduct a graveside service Thursday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Clinton cemetery. Eleanor F. Parslow, 76

Mt. Solon - Eleanor Flint Parslow, 76, of Parnassus, died Saturday morning, January 23, 2010 at 10:25 am at Augusta Medical Center of Alzheimer’s. She was born October 13, 1933 in Staten Island, New York as the only child of the late Charles and Janet Flint. She was a graduate of both Syracuse University in New York and James Madison College in Virginia. After receiving her Master’s Degree in Library Science, she was the school librarian at Churchville Elementary. She also worked at Grand Caverns in Grottoes and J.R. Copper before opening her own business. She was the former Secretary of the Archaeological Society of Virginia and member of Shenandoah Valley Railroad Club, Fort Harrison, and various spinning and weaving clubs. She retired after closing SpinThrift in the Dayton Farmer’s Market. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Barent and Linda Parslow of Staunton; a daughter, Margaret Morris of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, David Parslow and Margaret Swisher, Deanna Escobar, and Elizabeth and Blake Morris; and two great-grandchildren, Kirk and Madeline Swisher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Fancher Parslow and son, Benjamin Charles Parslow. The body will be cremated and a graveside service will be held at Oak Hill cemetery, Parnassus, Virginia at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2010. Harry T. Tribby, 85

Harrisonburg - Harry Thomas Tribby, 85, of Harrisonburg, died peacefully at Ritinour Rest Home in Staunton while under hospice care for cancer on March 22, 2009. He was born December 20, 1923, near Harrisonburg, and was a son of the late James Calvin and Mary Dale Tribby. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers James, Charles, John, and sisters Mary Bell and Annie. He was a member of Immanuel Mennonite Church in Harrisonburg. He retired from Nielson Construction after 37 years. On December 13, 1950, he married
the former Betty L. Zeigler, who survives. Also surviving are a cousin Lucile Waggy and nieces Bonnie, Betty and Linda. Pastors Carmen Schrock-Hurst and John Stahl will conduct a funeral service Thursday March 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Mennonite Church. Donna Sue Miller, 62

Donna Sue Miller, better known as “Sue” died March 7, 2010 at Avante Nursing Home. She was born on November 5, 1946 in Huntington, W.Va. but lived in Harrisonburg for many years. She had been known as the owner and operator of Hamburger Heaven in Briery Branch. Many friends, most from the Program spent time with her during her illness. She spent many service years as a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. She was also an employee of the Salvation Army in Harrisonburg. She was great help to people in need and had a special place in her heart for her cats, Harley, and Mary Kay. She will be missed, especially by those seeking recovery from addiction. She cared for and helped untold numbers of those in need, no matter what their problem. A memorial celebration of her life and promotion to Glory will be held at The Club on Waterman Drive on March 13, 2010 at 3 p.m. After the service, there will be a carry in meal. Anyone wishing to attend please bring a covered dish. Drinks will be provided.
Mildred L. Showalter, 84

Mildred Louise Showalter, 84, a resident of 1200 Sharon Lane, Harrisonburg, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Showalter was born on December 14, 1925 in Harrisonburg, and was the daughter of the late Marvin L. and Goldie Gilmer Neff. She attended Waterman Elementary School and graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1943. She was employed by Valley National Bank, and General Motors Dealership. Most recently she was employed by the Virginia Employment Commission from where she retired in 1988. She was a member and past president of the Quota Club. She was an active and lifetime member of the Harrisonburg Baptist Church, where she held numerous positions, was a member of the adult choir and superintendent of the junior Sunday school. She was church clerk, and also served as a deaconate. She loved to travel and enjoyed flowers, and making arrangements for church. On March 10, 1946, she married
Neil Showalter who survives. Also surviving are a son Steven N. Showalter, of Massanutten; a former daughter-in-law, Lana Mohler; one granddaughter, Melissa Langeberg and husband Philip of Massanutten. She was preceded in death by a brother, Forrest Neff. Dr. Jack Mercer, and Reverends Stacy Nowell and T.W. Johnson will conduct a memorial service Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at Harrisonburg Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. Burial will be private. Friends and family may call at McMullen Funeral Home at anytime on Friday. Betty Sager Bauserman
WINCHESTER - Betty Sager Bauserman, 78, died on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at her home.
She was born on Nov. 4, 1932, in Woodstock and was a daughter of Elmer R. and Golda Conner Sager.
Mrs. Bauserman was a homemaker and a member of St. Mathews Lutheran Church in Toms Brook.
On Dec. 2, 1950, she married
Davis S. Bauserman, who died on Feb. 8, 2001.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia Diane Riggleman of Winchester, Larry D. Bauserman of Slanesville, WV, Connie S. Hicks of Martinsburg, WV, Earl D. Bauserman and Keith L. Bauserman, both of Winchester; a sister, Anna Locke of Woodstock; a brother, Jerry Sager of Strasburg; seven grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, a sister and a brother.
A funeral service was conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Winchester with the Rev. Anthony A. Wadsworth officiating. Burial was in Sunset View Memorial Gardens, Woodstock.

Goldie Sue Sullivan

Goldie Sue Sullivan, 80, of Grottoes, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013 at Augusta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville.
Goldie was born in West Virginia on May 21, 1933, a daughter of the late Cecil William and Delphia (Rhodes) Green.
She was a member of Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren in Grottoes.
Goldie was preceded in death by her husband James “Jim” A. Sullivan.
She is survived by a daughter, Reta Sullivan of Grottoes; a son, Eugene Sullivan and wife Maxine of Elkton; a sister, Demmie Hannah and husband Walt of Gallipolis, OH; a brother, Bobby C. Green and wife Mary Lee of Crimora. She is also survived by a step grandson, Johnny McCartney, and two great granddaughters, Billy Jo and Kayla McCartney.
Goldie was also preceded in death by a brother, Cecil "Bill" Green; and two sisters, Betsy Roach and Ann Seams.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 28, 2013 from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Edgewood cemetery in Grottoes with Pastor Janet Elsea officiating.

Reuben Edward Mills

Reuben Edward Mills, 78, of Broadway, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at St. Thomas Moore Nursing & Rehabilitation in Hyattsville, MD.
He was born in Broadway on December 28, 1934, and was a son of the late Joseph Edward and Charlotte (Armentrout) Mills.
Reuben was a truck driver and had worked at Frazier Quarry and for DC Heatwole.
He was united in marriage on July 28, 1964 to Dorothy (Lantz) Mills, of Broadway.
He is also survived by three sisters Mary Miller, Patsy Strawerman and husband Russell and Frances Mills and three brothers Elmer "Buck" Mills and wife Sharon, Lee Jackson "Jack" Mills and John H. Mills and wife Faye, and special friends Catherine Kemp, Helen Dean and Gerald and Loretta May.
He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Edward Mills.
A graveside service will be held at Linville Creek Church cemetery at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 5, 2013 with Pastor William Staton and Rev. Jeremy Polling officiating.

Hattie Virginia Chandler

Hattie Virginia "Happy" Chandler, 97, of Mount Crawford, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2013.
She was born in Dayton on September 23, 1916, and was a daughter of the late Jacob and Clara (Ringgold) Shull.
Hattie had worked at Wilson Jewelers and the Alms House. She was a member of Saint James United Methodist Church.
She was united in marriage on June 9, 1934 to Wilbur Glen Chandler, who preceded her in death on December 19, 2005
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Donna Chandler, six grandchildren, Jeffrey A. Chandler & wife Kathy, Gregory L. Chandler & wife Donna, Lisa Bange & husband Steve, Tony Chandler & wife Maura, Patty Carter, and Amanda Casius & husband Pieter; 17 great grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Glen Winston "Buddy" Chandler, and Jerry Lee Chandler; two sisters, Hazel Miller and Lois McNett; and two brothers, Lloyd Shull and Clyde Shull.
A graveside service will be held at Woodbine cemetery at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 11, 2013 with Rev. W. L. "Sonny" Henkel officiating.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater.

Eugene Norwinski

U.S. Veteran - Eugene Norwinski, 88, died Sunday, October 6, 2013, at his home in Elkton, Virginia.
Born on June 25, 1925, in Brooklyn, New York, Eugene was the youngest child of the late Stefania and Peter Nerwinski. Following graduation from Boys High in Brooklyn, he served as a radio operator in the U.S. Navy during World War II, attended George Washington University where he received a bachelor’s degree in geography and political science, and spent his career in the Central Intelligence Agency, involved in operations in Cuba, Africa and Laos, among other places. Following his retirement, he worked at Merck in Elkton, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Helen Becker and Adelia LoPresti.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet Holden Norwinski; his children Evelina Norwinski, Derek Norwinski and his wife Brenda, and Stephanie Pence and her husband Steven; his six grandchildren, Taylor Pence, Rachel Pence, Hallie Pence, Emma Pence, Alexander Norwinski, and Allyson Norwinski; and his dog Belle.
There will be memorial service at 3:00 p.m. and receiving of friends afterwards from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2013, at the home of Steve and Stephanie Pence in McGaheysville, Virginia.
