Thomas Luther Horney
Thomas Luther Horney, 76, of Route 2, Speedwell, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 28, at 11 a.m. at the Elk Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Horney officiating. Interment will follow in the Elk Valley Baptist Church cemetery.
A native of Avery County, N.C., he was a son of the late Harrison Martin and Ethel Smith Horney and had resided in Speedwell for the past 28 years. He was a cattle and produce farmer and was a member of the Elk Valley Baptist Church.
He is survived by one brother, Junior Horney of Newland, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Tracy Alan Hylton
Tracy Alan Hylton, 33, of Bluefield, W.Va., died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, in the Princeton Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 27, at 2 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel in Bland with the Rev. Doug Hyndrich officiating. Interment followed in the Morning Star cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Bertha Hylton, and Greever Chandler.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Saunders Hylton of Bluefield, W.Va.; his parents Jimmy Lewis and Betty Jean Hylton of Bland; a sister, Samantha Dawn Hylton of Radford; and his grandmother, Ruby Blankenship Chandler of Bland.

Regina Bowman Calhoun Manuel
Regina Bowman Calhoun Manuel, 72, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Graveside services were held Friday, March 27, at 11 a.m. in the Lebanon United Methodist Church cemetery, Elk Creek, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Michael Wingard.
She was born in Washington, D.C., a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elbert G. Bowman Sr. She attended school in Wythe County and graduated from Radford University. She was a retired school teacher having taught in the Wythe County schools for 25 years. She was a member of the Wytheville Presbyterian Church, Wythe-Gray Chapter U.D.C., Wilderness Road D.A.R., Colonial Dames of the 17th Century and the Daughters and Founders of Patriots of American Children.
She is survived by one daughter, Rena D. Calhoun of Wytheville; two sons, Frederick Ralph "Rick" Calhoun of Roanoke and Edmond Randolph Calhoun of Wytheville; two half sisters, Rebecca Bowman of Wytheville and Ellen Lazenby of Bluefield; five grandchildren, Renee Fleenor, Krista Calhoun, Jay Calhoun, Brian Calhoun and T.C. Calhoun; and one great-grandson, Seth Thomas Fleenor.

Minnie Katherine Shupe
Minnie Katherine Shupe, 85, of Rural Retreat, died Thursday, March 26, 1998, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 28, at 2 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Countiss officiating. Interment will follow in the Blue Springs United Methodist Church cemetery in Camp.
She was born in Smyth County, a daughter of the late Sanders Pepper and Sophia Jane Hall Burse. She was a member of the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Shupe.
Survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth Shupe Blevins and Mary "Pee Wee" Shupe, both of Rural Retreat, and Bonnie Shupe Glass of Crewe; three sons, James D. Shupe, William "Bill Tom" Shupe and Jerry F. Shupe, all of Rural Retreat; and 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Marvin Monique Tynes
Marvin Monique Tynes, 56, of Rocky Gap, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, in the Bluefield Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 30, at 1 p.m. at the Tynes Chapel A.M.E. Church in Rocky Gap with the Rev. Andrew Montgomery and the Rev. Fred Saudners officiating. Interment will follow in the Hogans cemetery in Rocky Gap.
He was born in Rocky Gap, a son of the late Ferge and Octavia Tynes. He was a former employee of Asarco Corporation in Columbus, Ohio and the J.C. Penney Company in Bluefield, W.Va. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era.
He is survived by five sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia M. Wells of Columbus, Ohio, Bessie and Jerry Anderson of Mullins, W.Va., Helen and Charles Summers of Columbus, Ohio, Hazel Tynes of Rocky Gap, and Bertha and Levi Hagwood of Columbus, Ohio; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee A. and Elizabeth Tynes, George W. Tynes, all of Rocky Gap, James A. and Shirley Tynes, and Leonard S. and Shirley Tynes, all of Columbus, Ohio; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends Monday, March 30, from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the church.

J. Henry Kegley
J. Henry Kegley of Bristol, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at his home.
A memorial service was held Friday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. in the Seeger Chapel at Milligan College with former Mulligan College President Dr. Marshall J. Leggett officiating. A prayer service was held Friday, Nov. 6, at 10 a.m. at Blevins Funeral Home with the Rev. Trevor Downie officiating. Burial was in Mountain View cemetery.
He was born in Wythe County and attended school in Wythe County but finished his high school training in Portsmouth, Ohio, where he lived with an older brother. He was a graduate of Milligan College and Harvard Business School. During World War II, he worked at the Holston Munitions Plant in Kingsport, Tenn. He founded Tenneva Foods in Bristol in 1945 and was a pioneer in the distribution of frozen foods. He was active in the food distribution industry and served its national organization, the Frozen Food Forum. He was active in the Bristol community and served on many civic projects. He was an active member and former president of the Rotary Club of Bristol. He was recently honored for his 60 years of membership in the Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge, was involved with the Virginia College Fund and was a member of Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church and the B.P.O. Elks. He was a supporter of Milligan College and was frequently recognized by the college for his support. He was the first charter member of the Robert Milligan Society and was made honorary chairperson for the Milligan College Campaign for the New Millennium.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles G. and Marietta McWane Kegley; his wife, Pauline Noblin Kegley; and four brothers, Ernest Kegley, Thomas Kegley, Fred Kegley and Walter Kegley.
Survivors include one sister, Frances Kegley of Bristol; one brother, Joe Kegley of Portsmouth, Ohio; and nine nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Leiberman of Wytheville (the Asbury Center at Birdmont), died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
A graveside service and interment will be held Sunday, Nov. 8, at noon at the Monta Vista Park cemetery in Bluefield, W.Va. with Rabbi Israel Koller of Temple Israel in Charleston, W.Va. officiating.
She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., a daughter of the late Meyer and Fannie Frame Leiberman.
She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Sidney Lenett of Wytheville; two nieces and spouses, Marsha and Frank Friedland of Williamsburg, and Mindy and Gary Russell of Iowa City, Iowa; a nephew and fiancée, Dr. Stephen Lenett and Maria Harris of Richmond; two great-nieces, Sarah and Rebecca Russell of Iowa City, Iowa; and a great-nephew, Ben Lenett of Richmond.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the residence of Jean and Sidney Lenett, West North Street, Wytheville.

Charles Woolen "Willie" Repass, 84, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tenn.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. at the Cedar Bluff Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Beck and the Rev. James Huggins officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.
He was a member of the Cedar Bluff Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Monnie Buck Repass of Rural Retreat; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nellie B. and Roy Gullion of Bristol, Tenn., and Rondia and Keith Burdine of Frankfort, Ky.; two sisters, Bertie R. Blankenship of Galax, and Mary R. Grubb of Clinton, S.C.; four grandchildren, Julie Widner, Amy Stringer, Chris Burdine, and Jason Burdine; and four great-grandchildren.

Winston Paul "Pee Wee" Wolfe, 53, of Max Meadows, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. at the Max Meadows Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. N.R. Taylor and the Rev. Curtis Stoots officiating. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.
He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late Louie E. and Melvia Scott Wolfe.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon E. Wolfe.
Survivors include his wife, Regina Doss Wolfe of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Lorie and Keith Hyatt of Austinville; a son, Christopher Paul Wolfe of the home; two grandchildren, Courtney Dean and Chelsea Dean; three brothers, William Elmo Wolfe of Max Meadows, Robert G. Wolfe of Alexandria, Pa., and Louie E. Wolfe Jr. of Max Meadows; his mother-in-law, Pauline S. Doss of Max Meadows; and 19 nieces and nephews.

Edward Blair Archer, 84, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996 in the Birdmont Health Care Center.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, 1996 at 11 a.m. in the St. John's cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Robert Smith.
He was a former Virginia State Policeman and a well-known automobile salesman.
Archer is survived by his wife, Mildred L. Archer of Chatham; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Civil Archer of Advance, N.C., Jerry Lee and Kim Tucker Archer of Round Hill; a sister, Lucille Roseman of Maulden, S.C.; a half-sister, Georgia Huffard of Roanoke; one brother and sister-in-law, Peyton and Imogene Archer of Wytheville; three grandchildren, Page, Kelly and Jenny Archer; and a special friend, Helen Parrish of Christiansburg.

Ella Sue Kitts Irvin
Ella Sue Kitts Irvin, age 80, of Wytheville, died Friday, Sept. 20, 1996, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
A graveside service and interment will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, at 2:30 p.m. at the Evergreen cemetery with the Rev. Joe Taylor officiating.
She was born in Wythe County, daughter of the late Stuart Bittle and Lillie Callahan Kitts and was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Green Irvin. She was a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church.
She is survived by five sisters and brothers-in-law, Bessie Ryan, Daisy and Olen Riggle, all of Wytheville; Gladys "Romeo" and Claude Porter, Evelyn and Harry Mabe, Frances and Walter Hudson, all of Max Meadows; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Kitts of Rural Hall, N.C., Jean Kitts of Max Meadows. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, or at the residence of Frances and Walter Hudson of Max Meadows at any time.

Carolyn P. Jones
Carolyn P. Jones, age 77, of Wytheville, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 1996, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m. in the Franklin Street Methodist Church, conducted by Pastor Angela Hardy, the Rev. Thomas Braxton, and the Rev. Kenneth Johnson, with burial in the Oakwood Memorial cemetery.
She was a Wytheville retired teacher who taught for 33 years, and served in the community, churches, civic and social organizations. She served on the board of directors for Wytheville Housing Authority and Wythe County Community Hospital, was a member of the Wytheville Woman's Club and was selected as a Woman of the Year, and served as a vice president. She attended A&T College, North Carolina Central College, did undergraduate and graduate work at Virginia State college and Ohio State University.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Jacob Jones.
She is survived by two sisters, Lula Phelps Saunders of Rocky Mount, and Marie Phelps Peters of Huntington, W.Va.; several nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
The body will be placed in the church one hour before service time. The family will receive friends at the Grubb Funeral Home on Monday afternoon, Sept. 23, from 2 to 5 p.m. There will be no night visitation at the funeral home.
Those who wish to do so may make memorials to the Franklin Street United Methodist Church.
