Katie M. Calhoun Catron

Katie M. Calhoun Catron, 78, of Rural Retreat, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Tonny Johansen and Elder Raymond Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View cemetery in Rural Retreat.

She was born in Smyth County, a daughter of the late William Aaron and Florence Etta Pennington Calhoun. She was a member of the Wytheville Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Douglas Maiden Catron and Delmar Lee Catron.

Survivors include her husband, Hubert M. Catron Jr. of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Harry Danner, and Linda and Kevin Fiorini, all of Wytheville; one son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Virginia Catron of Wytheville; two sisters, Virginia Calhoun of Wytheville, and Anna Catron of Atkins; a special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, John and Loraine Heldreth of Hendersonville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Clarissa Lester, Melissa Hundley, Barry Catron, Russell Catron, Lisa Catron, C.D. Hagy and Katie Danner; two stepgrandchildren, Amber Fiorini and Ian Fiorini; four great-grandchildren, Randy, Kristen, Zachary, and Chase; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Jerry and Brian.

Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home or at the residence at any time.

Cecil Durward Corvin

Cecil Durward Corvin, 58, of Wytheville, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, in the Edgemont Center.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Sonny Ayers and the Rev. Bill Dale officiating. Interment followed in the West End cemetery.

He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Campbell "Boob" and Audrey Dunford Corvin.

He is survived by a son, Cecil Todd Corvin of Greensboro, N.C.; a special sister, Barbara Hensley of Wytheville; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Vivian and Charlie Staton of North Carolina, Mary Ann and Ed Thornsbury of Florida, and Betty and Danny Turner of Wytheville; 12 stepchildren, 11 nieces and nephews, 18 great-nieces and nephews, two aunts, one uncle, several cousins and a host of friends.

Katherine Shelton Evans

Katherine Shelton Evans, 47, of Wytheville, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, at her home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Adam Love and the Rev. Shane Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Elizabeth cemetery.

She was a member of Joy Baptist Church in Chilhowie. She was a former resident of Chilhowie.

She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Shelton.

Survivors include her husband, James A. Evans; two sons, James M. Evans and Rodney Evans, both of Wytheville; her mother, Mandy Hayden Shelton of Chilhowie; two brothers, Ernest M. Shelton and Roby E. Shelton, both of Bland; four sisters, Elaine Shelton Sparks of Bland, Nancy Shelton Galliher and Francis Shelton Galliher, both of Chilhowie, and Sandra Shelton Eller of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville.

Susie Luteneau Harvey

Susie Luteneau Harvey, 62, of Wytheville, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Leonard Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Brown Memorial cemetery.

She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late George and Ruth Carpenter Hale.

She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Jenkins of Sugar Grove, and Rachel E. Redford of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three sons, DeYweng Dixon of Cripple Creek, James Dixon of Rural Retreat, and Clarence Hale of Wytheville; two brothers, Boston Odell Hale of Wytheville, and Charles Edward Hale of Paynesville, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 9, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home.

Toye F. Miller

Toye F. Miller, 96, of Rural Retreat, died Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, in the Edgemont Center in Wytheville.

A graveside service was held Monday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at the Mountain View cemetery in Rural Retreat with the Rev. Robert Countiss officiating.

She was a member of the Mountain View United Methodist Church in Dublin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Miller, in 1979.

Survivors include two sons, Jack Miller and Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Joe Miller of Narrows; three sisters, Hazel Armbrister of Dublin, Julia Farmer of Newbern, and Connie Manger of Kittyhawk, N.C.; two granddaughters, and three great-grandchildren.

Louise Dunn Barger

Louise Dunn Barger, 79, of Route 5, Appomattox, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, in the Appomattox Health Care Center.

Graveside funeral services were held Sunday, March 21, at 2 p.m. in the Liberty cemetery by the Rev. Lanny Howe and the Rev. Millard Stimpson.

Born in Bland County, July 7, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Lena T. and Charles M. Dunn. She was a member of the Appomattox Court House Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Henry T. Barger; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marlene B. Simpson, and Rebekah B. and William A. "Bill" Burke, all of Appomattox; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert M. and Marlene Barger of Miami, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. Kendall (Nancy) Minnick of Bristol, Mrs. Hugh (Ruth) Lewis of McDonough, Ga., and Mrs. Kermit (Margaret) Mustard of Pulaski; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

The family suggests those wishing to make memorials to consider the Appomattox Court House Presbyterian Church Building Fund, Appomattox County Volunteer Rescue Squad, or the Central Virginia Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 823, Lynchburg, VA 24505.

Michael Clifton Burnett

Michael Clifton Burnett, 54, of Wytheville, died Saturday, March 20, 1999, in a Marion hospital.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 23, at 11 a.m. at the Gillman Funeral Chapel.

He is survived by his mother, Velma Burnett Fredrick of Wytheville; two brothers, Gary Lee Burnett of Orlando, Fla., and John Burnett of Wytheville; and two sisters, Judy King of Rural Retreat, and Patsy Akers of Dublin.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Original Church of God on Spring St., Wytheville.

John William Desmarais Jr.

John William Desmarais Jr., 77, of Irvin St., Wytheville, died Friday, March 19, 1999, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 21, at 4 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Dr. Charles C. Burnett officiating. Interment followed in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat.

He was born in Fall River, Mass., a son of the late Evelyn Apt and John William Desmarais. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946. He was retired from AMSCO Products with 15 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Porter Desmarais of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Maureen Desmarais of Vermont, John Desmarais III, and Gary Desmarais, both of Williamantic, Conn.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Staci and Chris Quilon of Granada Hills, Calif., and Monique Desmarais of Las Vegas, Nev.; a half-sister, Janice Notorantonia of North Scituate, R.I.; a half-brother, Jimmy Desmarais of Providence, R.I.; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Mary Luttie Irvin Etter

Mary Luttie Irvin Etter, 99, of Wytheville, died Monday, March 22, 1999, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 25, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Bobby Dunford officiating. Interment will follow in the Berea Church cemetery.

She was born in Wythe County a daughter of the late Charlie and Sarah Grubb Irvin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Bud" Etter; and three sons, Charlie Etter, Rhudell Etter, and Roger Etter.

Survivors include a daughter, Rachel Wright of Richmond; six sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Etter, James "Rab" and Helen Etter, Elmer and Charlotte Etter, Joe and Helen Etter, Stanley and Imogene Etter, all of Wytheville, and David and Barbara Etter of Salem; two daughters-in-law, Iola Etter, and Romona Etter, both of Wytheville; two sisters, Mae Wolford of Wytheville, and Hattie Maxwell of Crockett; 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home or at the homeplace at any time.

Lila Mabel Lindamood Hawley

Lila Mabel Lindamood Hawley, 92, of Bastian, died Friday, March 19, 1999, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 21, at 6 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Lee McIntosh officiating. Interment was private.

She was born in Wythe County, a daughter of the late Walter Leroy and Lettie Elizabeth Walters Lindamood.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Hawley.

Survivors include three sisters, Ethel Layne, Maude Umberger, both of Wytheville, and Ruth Leedy of Baltimore, Md.; several step-children, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mozelle Howk Hensley

Mozelle Howk Hensley, 86, of Speedwell, died Friday, March 19, 1999, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 23, in the Speedwell United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Richard Collins. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace M. "Jack" Hensley Sr.

Survivors include one daughter, Joyce H. Thompson of Cottageville, S.C.; one son, Horace M. "Buster" Hensley Jr. of Speedwell; one sister, Helen Hensley of Wytheville; one brother, Howard Howk of Red Springs, N.C.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville was in charge of the arrangements.

Muriel Adair Langenbach

Muriel Adair Langenbach, 83, of Kegley Manor in Bastian, formerly of Wytheville, died Friday, March 19, 1999, in the St. Luke's Hospital in Bluefield, W.Va.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 23, at 1 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lee McIntosh officiating.

She was born in Glen Gardner, N.J., the daughter of the late Calvin John and Florence Cregar Langenbach. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Earl Langenbach.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Anne F. Langenbach of Crockett; two nephews, John C. Langenbach of North Plainfield, N.J., and James Arthur Langenbach of Bridgewater, N.J.; a great-niece, Dolores Anne Langenbach; two great-nephews, Robert Langenbach, and James Arthur Langenbach; and several cousins.

The family suggests that those who prefer, may make memorials to the charity of one's choice or to the St. Luke's Hospital in Bluefield, W.Va.
