James L. Peak, 57, of Max Meadows, died Thursday, April 1, 1999, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 4, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Don Crockett officiating. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara P. Peak of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Gary Ayers of Max Meadows; two sons, Michael Peak and David Peak, both of Max Meadows; stepchildren, Mitchell and Kim Alley, and Robin and Billy Verax, all of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister and brother-in-law, Pearl and Richard Mabe of Max Meadows; his mother, Maggie Cregger Peak Wyatt of Max Meadows; three grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday, April 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home.

Fred Carlisle Atwell
Fred Carlisle Atwell, 73, of Rural Retreat, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at the home of his daughter in Martinsville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Joe Shumate and Pastor Ed Schaack officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Graveside military rites were conducted by Marion V.F.W. Post No. 4667.
He was born in Smyth County, a son of the late Franklin Perry and Minnie Dillman Atwell. He was a retired contractor and master carpenter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin Harlow Atwell.
Survivors include three children and their spouses, Fred C. "Buster" Jr. and Alice Atwell of Pilot Mountain, N.C., Brenda A. and David Gilbert of Martinsville, and Thelma A. and Michael Miller of Crockett; six grandchildren and a grandson-in-law, Julie and Jay Gillsepie of Harrisonburg, Ann-Alyssa King of Richmond, Tyyne Miller of Crockett, September Webster, Druid Atwell and Brianna Atwell, all of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; one sister, Ruth Tibbs of Rural Retreat; and several nieces and nephews.

Callie Rudella Roberts Catron, 94, of Wytheville, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Lindamood officiating. Interment was in the St. John's Lutheran cemetery.
She was a daughter of the late Garfield and Amelia Hackler Roberts.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Lacy Homer Stroupe and Joseph Lawrence Catron; seven brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Josephine Stroupe, and Irene and Jack Sharitz, all of Wytheville; two sons and daughter-in-law, Roy Lee Stroupe of Wytheville, and Homer and Juanita Stroupe of Max Meadows; one sister, Otey Edison of North Carolina; one brother, Clay Roberts of Glade Valley, N.C.; 24 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren, one stepgrandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Lillie Elvira Cannoy Corvin, 73, of Wytheville, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, in a Roanoke hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. in the Gillman Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Lebanon Lutheran Church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Cleon Corvin; and her parents, Elbert and Mary Corvin.

Roger Timothy "Tim" Davis, 36, of Ivanhoe, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. at the Ivanhoe Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Curtis Stoots officiating. Interment followed in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Davis.
Survivors include his parents, Douglas and Louise Dunford Davis of Ivanhoe; one daughter, Kayla Davis of the home; one brother, Michael Davis of Ivanhoe; a special niece, Amanda Davis of Ivanhoe; a special friend, Sheila Spraker of Ivanhoe; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Edelmann and William Crouse of Timberville; a son, Gordon Eric Edelmann of Tampa, Fla.; two grandchildren, Christopher Jackson of Wytheville, and Michael Crouse of Timberville; and one brother, Benjamin R. Musser of Georgia.

Edward C. "Buck" Fowler, 82, of Wytheville, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, in the Birdmont Health Care Center.
Funeral service will be Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at 2 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel with Sherman Dixon officiating. Interment will be in the West End cemetery. The American Legion Post No. 9 will conduct graveside military rites.
He was the son of the late Robert Lee and Ollie Mae Akers Fowler and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion Wytheville Post No. 9, Hillsville VFW Post No. 1115, and a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
He is survived by two sisters and brother-in-law, Oma and Sidney Clark, and Leta Akers, all of Wytheville; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home.

William Thomas "Doc" Jones Jr., 77, of Route 2, Max Meadows, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, in Edgemont Center in Wytheville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Reese Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Cope and the Rev. Garland Porter officiating. Interment will follow in the Sanders cemetery.
He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late William T. Sr. and Stella Gilbert Jones. He was a life-long resident and prominent Wythe County merchant, farmer and businessman of the Laswell Community. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by one daughter, Annette Robertson of Randleman, N.C.; one son, Tom W. Jones of Austinville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Virginia and Milt Musser of Dublin, and Inez Quesenberry of Pulaski; one brother and sister-in-law, Walter "Amos" and Jenna Lee Jones of Wytheville; two granddaughters, two grandsons and several nieces, nephews, and numerous special friends.

She was born Jan. 22, 1925, in Neva, Tenn., a daughter of the late David W. and Maggie Vaught Mink.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Nelson Lethco Sr.; and two brothers, Ralph Mink and Kelly Mink.

John H. Lundy
John H. Lundy, 64, of Danville, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at his residence after six months of declining health.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 28, at 2 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John C. Gentry officiating. Interment followed in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Born March 12, 1934, in Bland County, he was a son of the late William H. Lundy and Arlie Roope Lundy. He served in the late 1950's in Korea with the U.S. Army. He had spent most of his life in Danville and Pittsylvania County. He was retired from Southland Insurance Company after 33 years of service, retiring as regional vice president of the North Carolina Region, and later became owner and operator of Lundy Insurance Agency. He had taught insurance classes at Rockingham Community College and was past president of Danville Association of Life Underwriters. He was a member of Gatewood Baptist Church and the St. John's United Methodist Church Fishermen's Club.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte "Anne" Payne Lundy on March 7, 1997; a daughter, Teresa Lundy; and a brother, James Lundy.
Survivors include his mother, Arlie Roope Lundy of Bland; his second wife which he married
July 6, 1997, Sylvia H. "Pat" Lundy of the home; one daughter, Margaret Ruis-Thompson of Dry Fork; two sons, Alan L. Lundy of Akron, Ohio, and Tony L. Lundy of Danville; one stepdaughter, Terri C. Moore of Reidsville, N.C.; four brothers, Jim Lundy, Jack Lundy and George Lundy, all of Bland County, and Al Lundy of Forsyth, Ga.; two sisters, Jane Bales of Bland County, and Betty Krollman of Hopewell; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edgar E. Grimes; and her second husband, William Cloyd Seagle.

Myrtle Clara Davis Austin, 86, of Galax, formerly of Wythe County, died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at the residence of her daughter, Helen Akers.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 31, at 2 p.m. at the Poplar Camp Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Cecil Frazier officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.
She was born in Wythe County, a daughter of the late James and Sarah Elizabeth Dotson Davis.
She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, James A. "Jim" Pauley and James R. "June" Austin; and a daughter, Myrtle Elizabeth Arnold.
Survivors include two daughters, Helen Akers of Route 1, Max Meadows, and Mildred Pauley of Galax; four sons and daughters-in-law, Clyde "Buck" and Frances Pauley of Route 2, Max Meadows, Jewel "Tootie" and Deanna Pauley of Galax, Roger L. and Frances Pauley of Max Meadows, and James Roy Pauley of Galax; a sister, Hazel Wright of Hillsville; a brother, Carl B.
