Joseph Marion Farlow Sr., 57, of Rustburg, formerly of Bland County, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, in Kegley Manor Nursing Home in Bastian.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, with the Rev. Randy Queen and the Rev. Frank Clifton officiating. Burial will be in the Shiloh cemetery, Hollybrook.
He was born July 28, 1941, in Bland County, a son of the late Carl Robert and Edna Mae Coffey Farlow. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Farlow and the Rev. Randy Queen of Maiden, N.C., and Tammy Farlow and Herman Young of Claremont, N.C.; one son, Joseph Marion Farlow Jr. of Pulaski; four sisters, Audrey F. Gusler and Linda F. Boksa, both of Bland, Edith F. Ramsey of Dublin, and Delephine F. Barker of Harve De Grace, Md.; five brothers, Herbert Farlow of Radford, Hensel Farlow of Bristow, Jerry Farlow, Charlie Farlow and Randy Farlow, all of Bland; five grandchildren, Stacy Hopkins, Steven Hopkins, Jonathan Young, Tony Young, and Brittany Farlow; and a devoted friend, Betty L. Miles of Rustburg.

Albert Eugene Mustard, 78, of Emporia, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999.
A graveside funeral service was held Saturday, April 17, at 11 a.m. at the Emporia cemetery, Emporia, with the Rev. Lowell Petry officiating.
He was born in Bland County.
He is survived by one son, Albert Eugene Mustard Jr. of Bland; one sister, Josephine Stowers of Bland; three brothers, Jake Mustard and Wayne Mustard, both of Bland, and Kermit Mustard of Pulaski; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lena Mae Ramsey, 65, of the Hollybrook community in Bland County, died Monday, April 26, 1999, at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 29, at 11 a.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, with Brother Dewey Conley, Brother Jimmy Conley, and the Rev. Tommy Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in the Shiloh cemetery, Hollybrook.
She was born Nov. 27, 1933, a daughter of the late Robert F. and Lucy Billips Wright.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Buford and Carolyn Ramsey, and William and Theresa Ramsey, all of Bland; five daughters and sons-in-law, Lucy and Wallace French, Cathy and Robert Chewning, Freda and Eddie Crusenberry, Sylvia and Jesse DeHart, all of Bland, and Barbara and Gregg Tolbert of Max Meadows; one brother, Jack Wright of Roanoke; five sisters, Rosie Davis of Christiansburg, Dorie Thompson of Bland, Nellie Mitchem of Elliston, Mollie Miller of Virginia Beach, and Virginia Lilly of Princeton, W.Va.; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lettie Bruce Repass
Lettie Bruce Repass, 93, of Ceres, died Saturday, April 24, 1999, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 27, at 11 a.m. at the Bethany United Methodist Church, Ceres, with the Rev. Larry Patton officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
She was born in Ceres, a daughter of the late James Wriley and Dora Umbarger Bruce. She was a lifetime resident of Bland County, a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Ceres, and a member of the Virginia Homemakers Association.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Roy F. Repass and Roger A. Repass; and two brothers, Claude Bruce and Joubert Bruce.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Esther and Thornton Umbarger, and Frieda and Danny Hanshew, all of Ceres; two sons and daughters-in-law, Buck and Sue Repass of Ceres, and Ken and Rita Repass of Marion; a stepdaughter, Mallie Tibbs of Bastian; a stepson and his wife, Arten and Jonan Repass of Ceres; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Fred J. Simpkins Jr.
Fred J. Simpkins Jr., 64, of Bluefield, W.Va., formerly of Rocky Gap, died Monday, April 26, 1999, at a local nursing facility.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 29, at 2 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel in Bland with the Rev. Tami Shoup officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill cemetery.
He was the son of the late Fred Sr. and Ada Walters Simpkins. He was a construction worker and a U.S. Army veteran having served tours of duty in Germany and Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion in Princeton, W.Va., and a member of the United Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma A. Simpkins.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Fred J. III and Dianne Simpkins of Rocky Gap; three grandchildren, Courtney Simpkins, Christian Simpkins and Patrick Simpkins, all of Rocky Gap; two sisters, Freda Simpkins and Janice Martin, both of Rocky Gap; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home or at the residence of his son in Rocky Gap.

James Stuart Vaught
James Stuart Vaught, 55, of Blacksburg, died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at Montgomery Regional Hospital.
Memorial services will be held Friday, April 30, at 11 a.m. in the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gary Schroeder officiating.
He was born in Rural Retreat on Nov. 26, 1943, to the late Greek Fox and Eleanor Stuart Waddell Vaught. He retired from the Wythe County School System on Dec. 1, 1998, where he was superintendent for eight years; band director, counselor and central office administrator for 30 years. He received his bachelor's degree in music from Morningside College, Sioux City, Iowa, and his master's degree in music education from Radford University. At his death he was affiliated with the Education Leadership Department of Virginia Tech. He was a member of the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Claire Cole Vaught of Blacksburg; one daughter, Laura Elizabeth Vaught of Rural Retreat; a stepdaughter and step-son-in-law, Robin Cole and Willis Lacy of Alexandria; two stepsons and a stepdaughter-in-law, Scott and Jenny Cole of Pensacola, Fla., and Patrick Cole of Terrell, Texas; one grandson, Reagan Cole of Pensacola, Fla.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.

Bettie Lou Ingo Walker, 59, of Charlottesville, died Monday, April 26, 1999, in a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 29, at 10 a.m. at the Hill & Wood Chapel with the Rev. Karl Netting officiating. Interment will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at the West End cemetery in Wytheville.
Born June 17, 1939, in Wytheville, she was a daughter of the late Steve and Irene Porterfield Ingo. She attended Bluefield College in West Virginia.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeff and Janna Walker of Denton, Texas, and Michael Walker of Fairfax; three brothers, James Ingo and Garland Lee Ingo, both of Wytheville, and Gene Ingo of Colonial Heights; four sisters, Lucille Cassell of Wytheville, Dorothy Dean of Crockett, Nancy Scott and Linda Jackson, both of Wytheville; and one granddaughter, Halle Elizabeth Walker.

Roger Dale Collins, 54, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of the Little Creek Section of Bland County, died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at his residence.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 19, at 2 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hubert Meadows officiating. Interment was in Straders Chapel cemetery, Little Creek.
He was a son of the late Frank and Rosie Hancock Collins.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Nina Shuler, Fredia Oldhan and Geraldine Six.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Ann Collins of the home; two stepdaughters, Angel Morison and Sarah Ransom, both of Charlotte, N.C.; one sister, Evelyn Hotz of Chester; and one brother, Toney Collins of Wytheville.

She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late George Dewey and Ida Estell Sage Heldreth.
She is survived by several cousins.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at the Green Valley United Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. Roberts Kitts officiating.
She was born in Bland County, a daughter of the late Vernie Kidd and Annie Heilman Kidd. She was a lifetime resident of Bland County and was of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by two sisters, Pearl O'Farrell and Opal Looney, both of Bastian.

Thomas West Painter, 84, of Wytheville, died Saturday, April 17, 1999, in a Princeton, W.Va. hospital.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 22, at 3 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Draper's Valley Presbyterian Church cemetery.
He was a son of the late James W. and Cornillia West Painter. He was a retired truck driver and farmer and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Williams Painter.
Survivors include a sister, Louise P. Minervini of Yonkers, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews, Kit Minervini of Cortland, N.Y., Robert Minervini of New Paltz, N.Y., Cornelia H. Gibbs of Richmond, Frances H. Mayo of Midlothian, James W. Painter III of Bluefield, W.Va., Richard W. Luttrell of Pulaski, Warren Luttrell of Annondale, and Alfred P. Huffard of Bristol, Tenn.
