Sandra Lynn Gwinn Montgomery, 41, has died in Roanoke.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Loving Funeral Home with Father David Nott officiating. Interment followed in Alleghany Memorial Park.
She was born Jan. 31, 1956, in Clifton Forge, a daughter of Norma Keatley Gwinn and the late David Riffe Gwinn. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a graduate of Covington High School Class of 1974 and a 1976 graduate of Dabney S. Lancaster Community College.
She is survived by her mother; three daughters, Amanda Leigh Montgomery, Jennifer Erin Montgomery and Holly Christine Montgomery, all of Wytheville; one brother, Michael David Gwinn of Phoenix, Ariz.; and an aunt and uncle, Joan and John Robertson of Midlothian.
The family has requested that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the charity of your choice.

Henry Lee Shewey, 66, of Route 1, Bland, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m. in the Trinity United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Doug Hyndrich and the Rev. Joe Taylor. Interment will be in the Old Bethel cemetery.
He was the son of the late Frank Owen and Hallie Lambert Shewey.
He is survived by his wife, Rosa Burton Shewey of Bland; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Sue and Olen Sexton, and Shelby and Mark Sarver, all of Bland; one son, Jimmy Ray Shewey of Fairfax; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Roy Ford Ayers, 73, of Fries, died Monday, April 13, 1998, in Blue Ridge Health Center, Galax.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 16, at 2 p.m. in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in "Spring Valley" conducted by the Rev. Virginia Eminhizer. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The Hillsville VFW Post No. 1115 will conduct military graveside rites. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.
He was the son of the late Walter A. and Biddie Wright Ayers. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Ward Ayers of Fries; two sisters, Burta A. Felts of Route 1, Max Meadows, and Virgie Youngblood of Fries; special friends, Alfred and Marilyn Jones and children of Fries; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home.

Wyley Preston Dobbins, 84, of Pulaski, died Sunday, April 12, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 15, at 11 a.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Demps Overcash officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery.
He was born in Pulaski County on June 14, 1913, and was the son of the late Nat Lee Dobbins and Nancy Bentley Dobbins. He was a retired employee of Burlington Industries, Dublin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Rash Dobbins.
Survivors include two sisters, Mona Arnold, and Mina Arnold, both of Max Meadows; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Maxine Chitwood Gravly, 73, of Ivanhoe, died Monday, April 13, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 16, at 11 a.m. at the Fairview United Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. Don Crockett officiating.
She was born in Carroll County a daughter of the late David F. and Maude Davis Mallory. She was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Roy F. Gravly; three nieces, Deborah Smith of Max Meadows, Zelda Jackson of Ivanhoe, and Reva Saul of Wytheville; three nephews, Trent Bell of Floyd, Eric Patton of Radford, and Rev. Larry Patton of Vansant; and several great-nieces and -nephews.

William Byron Hancock, 79, of Ceres, died Thursday, April 9, 1998, in Greeneville, Tenn.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 12, at 2 p.m. at the Bethany United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Schoeneman officiating. Interment followed in the Bethany cemetery.
He was born in Bland County, the son of the late James F. and Madie Hanshew Hancock. He was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Thompson; and a great-granddaughter, Erica Burton.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Lois McFarland Hancock of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mae and Donald Hanshew of Ceres, Doris and Lenden Thompson of Burkes Garden, and Aileen and Donald Soloman of Greeneville, Tenn.; a son and daughter-in-law, Alvin and Tammy Hancock of Ceres; and 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Marie Chapman Holmes, 87, of New York, died Friday, April 10, 1998, in Manhattan, N.Y.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 17, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Angela M. Hardy officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakwood cemetery.
She was born in Wytheville on Oct. 21, 1910, to the late Charles and Margaret Anderson Chapman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Holmes.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Holmes Fennel of St. Albans, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Dr. Linda M. Fennell of New Orleans, La.; two sisters, Edith C. Martinez of Laurelton, N.Y., and Mary C. Runnells of Wytheville; a brother, Charles H. Chapman of Canton, Ohio; a niece, Charisse D. Runnells; two nephews, Charles Chapman of Canton, Ohio, and Jose Martinez, N.J.; and three great nieces and four great nephews.

Edwin Earl Saufley, 46, of Jamesford Meadows, Jamestown, N.C., died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at his home following a lengthy illness.
A memorial service was held Friday, April 10, at 5 p.m. at the First Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Scott L. Weldon, R. Francel Goude and the Rev. Phil Lewis officiating. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 11, at 2 p.m. at the Harrisonburg Baptist Church in Harrisonburg with the Rev. Tom Reynolds and the Rev. Scott L. Weldon officiating. Interment followed in the Naked Creek cemetery of Bethany United Methodist Church.
He was born May 4, 1951 in Harrisonburg, a son of Warren Kemper and Alda Eddins Saufley. A 1973 graduate of Virginia Tech, he was employed by AMP, Inc. as product manager. He was a member of the First Wesleyan Church; the Tool Shed Sunday School Class and the Goude Care Group. On July 8, 1978, he married
Brenda Branscome.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Branscome Saufley of the home; one daughter, Lindsey Patrice Saufley of the home; his father and wife, Warren K. and Sue Saufley of Weyers Cave; one sister, Susan Huffman of Waynesboro; one brother, Joseph Warren Saufley of Richmond; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clayton and Betty Branscome of Route 2, Max Meadows; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Teresa and David Aker of Route 3, Wytheville; two nieces, Melissa D. Saufley, and Lisa D. Aker; and three nephews, Matthew J. Saufley, Patrick J. Garr, and Cory A. Aker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney J. Sexton; two sons, Everett M. and Charles "Jim" Sexton; and a granddaughter, Susan K. Sexton.

She was born in Wythe County, a daughter of the late John C. and Susan Elizabeth Coppybarger Turner.
