Brenda Lee Dunford Moore, 55, of Manassas Park, died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. at Price Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas, with Dr. Randy Orndorff officiating. Interment will be at Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas.
She was preceded in death by her father, Porter Dunford; one sister, Gertrude Archer; and two brothers, Douglas Dunford, and Eugene Dunford.
Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Lawrence Raymond "Ray" Moore; one daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Mike Wade of Manassas; one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Denise Forsyth Moore of Manassas; her mother, Mattie G. Dunford of Wytheville; two sisters, Peggy Sayers of Draper, and Geneva Jonas of Manassas; two brothers, Clark Dunford of Max Meadows, and Perry Dunford of Wytheville; one step-grandchild, Morgan Forsyth of Manassas; and 11 nieces and 13 nephews.

Effie Elizabeth Nunley, 74, of Bland, died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, in the Bluefield Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, Hollybrook, with the Rev. Charles A. Clark officiating. Burial in the Grandview Memorial Gardens, Bluefield.
She was born July 11, 1923, at Pocahontas, the daughter of the late Albert and Sally Bourne.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Nunley.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Larry Clark of Bland; three sons and daughters-in-law, Willie E. Nunley of Bland, Roy and Virginia Nunley of Rocky Gap, and Harry and Carolyn Nunley of Hollybrook; and 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Cecil Elmo Smith, 65, of Route 1, Max Meadows, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, in Birdmont Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Stoots and the Rev. Kenneth Fogus officiating. Interment followed in the Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery.
He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late Charlie Henry Smith and Bertie Elizabeth Quesenberry Smith. He was a member of the Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness church, an avid bear hunter and baseball player.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie Thomas Smith, and Chester Dewey Smith.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Jeff Jonas of Wytheville; one son and daughter-in-law, Cecil Douglas and Nancy Smith of Max Meadows; one granddaughter, Alesia Jonas; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Lula Midkiff of Route 1, Max Meadows, Mary S. Hagee of Pulaski, Audrey and Munsey Jones, Mavis and Jim Sage, all of Route 1, Max Meadows, and Thelma Milgrim of Santee, S.C.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert "Baldy" and Yvonne Smith of Max Meadows, Jimmie D. and Cheryl Smith of Flint, Mich., Kenneth L. Smith of Christiansburg, Ersel Smith of Max Meadows, and Neta Smith of Wytheville; and several nieces and nephews.

Brenda Gail Wallace, 44, of Baltimore, Md., died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, in St. Agnes Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 19, at 1 p.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate. Burial will be in the Shiloh cemetery, Bland County.
She was born June 7, 1953, at Jewel Valley, the daughter of Rosie Nunley Fournier of Princeton, W.Va., and the late Roy Lee Wallace.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her boy friend, Jack Burton of Bland; two daughters, Cheryl Barmann of Largo, Fla., and Michelle Nazarenus of Baltimore, Md.; one son, Michael Nazarenus of Baltimore, Md.; five sisters, June Zitzmann of Kenneth City, Fla., Wanda White, Deborah Curtis, both of St. Petersburg, Fla., Maxine Berkes, and Darlene Midyett, both of Treasure Island, Fla.; two brothers, Kenneth Wallace of Princeton, W.Va., and Michael Wallace of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and three grandchildren, Sarah Barmann, Kayla Barmann, and Billy Barmann.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel.

Millard Wade Whalen
Millard Wade Whalen, 78, of Speedwell, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the Speedwell United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Perkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Speedwell United Methodist Church cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post No. 9.
He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late Patrick and Lelia Arney Whalen. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II the 101st Airborne Division.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Lowe and Louise Shelton; and three brothers, Andy Whalen, Roger Whalen, and Charlie Whalen.
Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Olyvia W. and H.C. Goetzinger of Sugar Grove, Johanna and David Nicholeson of Rural Retreat, Barbara and Ray Main of Vero Beach, Fla., and Frances and Cooper Jones of Rural Retreat; two sons and daughter-in-law, Winston W. Whalen of Atlanta, Ga., and Eric D. and Angie Whalen of Radford; seven sisters, Marie Cox, Eula Fielder, both of Rural Retreat, Gay Rash, Mae Lynch, Mary Lee Shrader, all of Speedwell, Gladys Page of Baltimore, Md., and Kathaleen Walters of Wytheville; four brothers, John Whalen of Speedwell, J.R. Whalen of Rural Retreat, Rex Whalen of Wytheville, and Richard Whalen of Baltimore, Md.; and 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Eloise Richberg Campbell
Eloise Richberg Campbell of Wytheville died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, at noon at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Leland Smith officiating. Interment will be in the East End cemetery.
She grew up in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Florence Weed Richberg and Donald R. Richberg, who was a constitutional lawyer, close friend and advisor to President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Chief Counsel of Roosevelt's National Recovery Administration. She was a graduate of National Cathedral School, Washington, and of Wellesey College, Class of 1948. She served on numerous boards and committees of the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Virginia and was the first female senior warden in her parish in Wytheville, elected in 1980. She was a former member of the Wytheville Junior Woman's Club, Wytheville Library Board, AAUW, a founding director of Southwest Virginia Horseman's Association, Wythe County Community Chest Board and was a multi-gallon donor to American Red Cross Bloodmobile.
She is survived by her husband, Archibald A. Campbell of Wytheville; three children, Dr. Donald Richberg Campbell of Kansas City, Kansas, Marenda Ann Weaver of Madison, Conn., and Florence Weed Hawkes of San Diego, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Bessie Mae Dyla, 76, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, at 3 p.m. at the Franklin Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Angela Hardy officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakwood cemetery.
She was born in Wytheville, the daughter of the late Price and Bessie Austin Dyla and was a member of the Franklin Street United Methodist Church.
She is survived by four nieces, Hattie Bailey of Wytheville, Edna Penn of Blacksburg, Vivian Davis of Bristol, Tenn., and Deborah Williams of Blacksburg; a nephew, Charles Whitten of New York, N.Y.; and a host of friends and other relatives.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 21, from 2 p.m. until service time at the church.

Letha Virginia Hancock, 82, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Chapel in Bland with the Rev. Frank Bauman officiating. Interment followed in the Shrader-Hancock cemetery.
She was born in Bland County, a daughter of the late Sidney and Pearl King Hancock.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Jessie James Hancock and Richard Lee Hancock; and a brother, Ed Hancock.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and David Davis of Rural Retreat; three sisters, Lorane Garner and Elva Amburn, both of Wytheville, and Mary Hamblin of Front Royal; a sister-in-law, Hester Hancock of Kegley W.Va.; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Leo Middleton Sr., 78, of Christiansburg, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at the Radford Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 1 p.m. at Hardys Creek Baptist Church in Jonesville. Burial followed in Middleton cemetery, Jonesville.
He was born Oct. 4, 1919, a son of Mose and Maude Kirk Middleton. He was a businessman and a member of the Main Street Baptist Church in Christiansburg.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Smith Middleton of Christiansburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Norma Sue and Ron Witt of Dublin; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Leo Jr. and Barbara Middleton, and Larry Middleton, all of Christiansburg; one sister, Ressie Matlock of Richmond, Ky.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Alvin Howard Richardson, 75, of Pulaski, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, in Lewis Gale Hospital, Salem.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Howlett officiating. Burial will follow in the Thorn Spring cemetery.
Born Oct. 30, 1922, in McDowell County, W.Va., he was a son of the late Howard Richardson and Lora Newman Richardson. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Elks, and was retired after 34 years with the United State Postal Service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Ann Bratton Richardson.
Survivors include one son, James Howard Richardson of Pulaski; and two brothers, William L. Richardson of Roswell, Ga., and LeRoy E. Richardson of Sacramento, Calif.

Anna Katherine Simmerman Saunders, 61, of Baltimore, Md., died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Turk and Penny Johnson in Rural Retreat after a long illness with cancer.
Memorial services were held Friday, Feb. 20, at 8 p.m. at Fulton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rance Edwards and the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, at 9:30 a.m. in West End cemetery with the Rev. Rance Edwards officiating.
She was a nurse at Smyth County Community Hospital for several years and at Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore, Md., for 25 years.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard Saunders of Baltimore, Md.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Frank Michael and Carol Robertson of San Antonio, Texas, Webster Charles Royston of Dallas, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Anna Elizabeth and William Thompson of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; her mother, Lora Pearl Overbay Simmerman of Rural Retreat; one brother, Harry Simmerman of Columbia, S.C.; and six grandchildren, Michael Robertson, Marie Robertson, Eric Robertson, Alicia Thompson, Emily Thompson, and John Thompson.
