Arthur Mack Hubble, 84, of Ceres died Friday, Oct. 11, 1996, in his home.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 13, at 3 p.m. at Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Schoeneman and Rev. Steve Hutton officiating. Burial followed in the Zion cemetery.
He was a life-long farmer.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bessie Victoria Hubble; his parents, Henry C. and Mahala Catron Hubble; and a grandson, Gary Michael Hubble.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Cullop Baker Hubble; two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard Andrew and Libby Hubble of Ceres and Midlothian, and William Henry and Betty C. Hubble of Midlothian; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Shirley Hubble Bunce of Richmond, Dottie Hubble and A.D. Scott of Ocala, Fla., Anne Hubble and William Spence of Saltville, Sandra Baker and William "Buster" Crabtree of Ceres, and Rachel Baker Gastineau of Roanoke; two brothers, Simon Dee Hubble of Rustburg, and Henry Balard Hubble of Ceres; one sister, Nell Hubble Handshew of Ceres; and nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Sadie Marie Jones King, 50, of Route 2, Austinville, formerly of Ivanhoe, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 1996, at her residence.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel in Austinville with the Rev. Bobby Lewis officiating.
She was a member of the Liberty Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. King.
Survivors include five daughters, Dorinda Dean, Elizabeth Dean, Delia King, all of Austinville, Kandis Donaldson of Wytheville, and Melissa Turbyfill of Cumberland; her mother, Lillian Jones of Max Meadows; two sisters, Katherine Bryant of Max Meadows, and Carrie Akers of Ivanhoe; three brothers, John Jones of Wytheville, Ralph "Buckshot" Jones of Kernersville, N.C., and Thomas "Ball" Jones of Ivanhoe; and nine grandsons.

Bernice Pollard Myers
Bernice Pollard Myers, 93, formerly of Knoxville, Tenn., died Thursday, Oct. 10, 1996, at Asbury Center, Johnson City, Tenn.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 8 p.m. at Gentry-Griffey Chapel, Knoxville, Tenn., with Rev. Douglas Smith officiating. Graveside services will be Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. at Trentville cemetery.
She had previously resided at Asbury Center at Birdmont in Wytheville. She was a member of Magnolia Ave. United Methodist Church and was an educator in Washington County and Knox County, Tenn. school system.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Pollard; and her husband, Justin K. Myers.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Bob Bostick of Louisville, Tenn.; two grandsons and a granddaughter-in-law, Gregg and Missy Bostick of Lenoir City, Tenn., and Doug Bostick of Telford, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews including Hollis F. Pollard of Dandridge, Tenn.; and special care-givers, Sue Whitehead, and Ruth Hughes.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Asbury Center at Birdmont, Wytheville.

Nora Clark Robinson
Nora Clark Robinson, 82, formerly of Pulaski, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 1996, in Wytheville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with Rev. J.P. Hale officiating. Interment followed in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin.
She was born Sept. 20, 1914, in Pulaski, a daughter of the late William Ballard Clark and Myrtle Steele Clark.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Wells Robinson; one sister, Annie Ellen Clark Bralley; and four brothers, Miles S. Clark, James Verlin Clark Sr., Donald Hansel Clark Sr.; and William Lester "Bill" Clark.
Survivors include five nephews, Roger A. Bralley of Little Creek, Larry W. Bralley of Dublin, James V. Clark Jr. of Dublin, Donald H. Clark Jr. of Baltimore, Md., and William Michael Clark of Twenty-nine Palms, Calif.; and two nieces, Connie C. Pugh of Baltimore, Md., and Karen "Penny" Nash of Pulaski.

Leona Wright Rudy
Leona Wright Rudy, 90, of Austinville died Monday, Oct. 14, 1996, at the home of her son.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church with the Rev. Vicki Neese and the Rev. Jerry Long officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.
She was born in Ivanhoe, the daughter of the late Bert and Rose Akers Wright. She was a member of Bethany Untied Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Following the death of her husband, who was treasurer of the church, she assumed that position and served for 36 years until the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Telford L. Rudy; and a son, Trent L. Rudy.
Survivors include a son and two daughters-in-law, Edsel and Jo Rudy of Galax, and Daisy Rudy of Austinville; granddaughter and husband, Peggy and Wes Cavin of Austinville; grandsons and wives, Greg and Marlene Rudy, Charles and Cindy Rudy, all of Galax, David Rudy of Austinville, and Joel Rudy of Athens, Ga.; great-grandsons and wife, David and Holly Cavin of Austinville, and Lucas Rudy of Galax; and several nieces and nephews.

Elsie E. "Granny" Tarter, 93, of Crockett died Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Rance Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in the King's Grove cemetery in Crockett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Shuff Tarter; and a son, John Robert Tarter.
Survivors included two daughters and son-in-law, Elsie Grace Walters of Crockett, and Nellie and Charles Catron of Salem; a daughter-in-law, Zelma W. Tarter of Crockett; four grandchildren, Jerry Walters, Michael Tarter, Donna Irvin, and David Catron; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beatsy Pannell of Christiansburg.

Ola Medley Umberger, 89, of Wytheville, died Friday, Oct. 11, 1996, in the Malin Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 13, at 8 p.m. in the chapel of the Grubb Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Ronnie Umberger and Evangelist Gregory Dill. Graveside services were held Monday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. at the Lebanon Lutheran Church cemetery.
She was the widow of George Woodrow Umberger Sr.
She is survived by one step-son and wife, George W. and Nelda Umberger Jr. of Dalesville; three step-daughters and husbands, Betty and Buster Wilson of Rural Retreat, Louise and Alan Walters of Wytheville, and Juanita and A.W. "Johnny" Branscome of Max Meadows; one sister-in-law, Mary Margaret Medley; and 10 step-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Georgia Pulliam Huffard, 95, of Fincastle, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. at Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev. James S. Angle officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Wytheville.
She was a native of Wythe County, a daughter of the late Ollie Grace Davis Pulliam and the late William Henry Pulliam.
She was preceded in death by brothers, William Noel Pulliam, Blair Archer, Frank Archer and Robert Archer; and a sister, Thelma Spraker. She was a member of Troutdale Baptist Church and worked much of her life in practical nursing and in-home health care.
Survivors include a son, James "Jim" Huffard of Fincastle; grandchildren and their spouse, Kelley Huffard and Kevin Murphy of Williamsburg, Chad and Belinda Huffard of Fincastle, and Chet Huffard of Roanoke; a great-granddaughter, Emily Jo Huffard; a brother, Peyton Archer of Wytheville; a sister, Lucille Rosemond of Greenville, S.C.; and a longtime special friend, Judy White.

Barry Howard "Sonny" Shortt Jr., 63, of Groton, Conn., died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at the KOA Campground in Denver, Pa.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Sept. 21, in Groton, Conn.
Born in Wytheville, he was a son of the late Barry Howard and Edna Hall Shortt.
He is survived by his wife, Laura M. Bender Shortt; children, Harold Williams of Florida, Debra Devlez, Stephen Shortt and Timothy Shortt, all of Connecticut; several grandchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Darlene and Buford Grubb Sr., Abby and Robert Green IV, and Donna and Dale Brackens; a brother, Clarence L. Shortt of Ladson, S.C.; a special cousin, Sue Hildabrand of Pulaski; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Edith Aker Coleman, 85, of Wytheville, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. at the Liberty Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment followed in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church cemetery.
She was a lifelong member of Liberty Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church and was the correspondent for the Piney News for the Southwest Virginia Enterprise for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl J. Coleman; and two sons, James Carl Coleman and Walter Ray Coleman.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Freda and Bill Bohannon of Richmond, Daisy and Bill Mac Fisher of Wytheville, Debra Spaulding, and Jerry Spaulding, both of Tazewell, Tenn.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby John and Marie Coleman of Richmond, Donald and Brenda Coleman, and Vance Coleman, all of Wytheville; and 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, two stepgrandchildren, five great-stepgrandchildren, and one great-great-stepgrandchild.

Donald William Evans Sr., 75, of Las Cruces, N. M., formerly of Wytheville, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 1 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville with the Rev. Robert Layell officiating. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery.
He was born in Reading, Pa., a son of the late John William and Ethel Glenn Evans and was a member of the Untied Brethren Evangelical Church. He was a retired plant manager with the Narrow Fabric Company.
He is survived by his wife, Viola Cox Evans of Las Cruces, N.M.; a daughter, Linda Maurer of Reading, Pa.; a son, Donald W. Evans Jr. of Reading, Pa.; a stepchild, Jeffrey A. Cox of Las Cruces, N.M.; and three grandchildren, Stacey Evans, Scott Evans and Jennifer Maurer.

She was born in Wythe County, a daughter of the late Hugh Pierce Sr. and Clarice Williams Sheffey. She was a member of Huddle United Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday Sunday school teacher. She was a former employee of Narrow Fabric and Donnkenney.
She was preceded in death by a son, LeRoy Garland.
Survivors include her husband, Edward R. "June" Garland of the home; two daughters and son-in-law, Jeanie Jonas Turvey of Route 3, Wytheville, and Rhonda G. and Roger L.
