William L. Whitt
William "Bill" L. Whitt, of Pulaski died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 1996, in the Columbia Pulaski Community Hospital.
Graveside funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, with the Rev. Joseph Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Full military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Pulaski VFW Post No. 1184 Pulaski.
Born Sept. 23, 1923, in Max Meadows, he was a son of the late Robert Lee Whitt and Mallie Luvinda Gravley Whitt. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II and Korea with 23 years of service and was also retired from the Fort Chiswell High School as a custodian with 15 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae Howlett Whitt; a daughter, Brenda Joyce Whitt; and three brothers, Richard Elbert Whitt, James Walter Whitt, and Robert Lee Whitt Jr.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Linda) Bonanno of Coral Springs, Fla.; two grandchildren, Carla Mae Bonanno, and Alan Joseph Bonanno; and one sister, Eva Burchett of Draper.

James Edward Grubb
James Edward Grubb, 54, of Crockett, died Thursday, April 2, 1998, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 6, at 2 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the West End cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Phipps Grubb.
Survivors include two daughters, Juanita Grubb and Wanda Grubb, both of Maryland; his father, Charles E. Grubb of Crockett; one sister, Ruby Vaughn of Bramwell, W.Va.; one brother, Jonathan Grubb of Florida; three grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Walter Frank Phillippi
Walter Frank Phillippi, 87, of Rural Retreat, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, in the Birdmont Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 4, at 2 p.m. in the Speedwell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Stuart officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.
He was retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie H. Phillippi.
Survivors include four daughters, Shelvie Wright of Wytheville, Jacquline Lowery of Richmond, Grace Estep of Clarksville, Tenn. and Brenda Martin of Denver, Colo.; one son, Dewey Phillippi of Rural Retreat; one sister, Helen Lane of Wytheville; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Charles L. Richardson
Charles L. Richardson, 66, of Route 1, Draper, and Ivanhoe, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at his residence in Draper.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 4, at 11 a.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel with Jack King and the Rev. Preston Sartelle officiating. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery.
He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late J.R. "Jack" and Ancie Bell Richardson. He was a well-known local farmer and retired owner of Virginia Office Equipment Company, a member of Forest United Methodist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William E. "Bill" Richardson of Abingdon.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Sayers Richardson of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Kenny Ross of Boone, N.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Tammy Richardson of Ivanhoe; a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Robyn and Walter Widelo of Draper; two grandchildren, Whitney Richardson and Jordan Richardson; and four stepgrandchildren, Brandi Cannoy, Terri Cannoy, Justin Ross and Austin Widelo.

Cecil Cleve Riggins, 81, of Route 1, Max Meadows, the Piney Community, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 4, at 2 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Austinville with the Rev. Randy Morris and the Rev. Donald White officiating.
He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late William A. and Lucy Ada Horton Riggins. He was retired from the New Jersey Zinc Co.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Riggins; a son-in-law, Robert S. "Bobby" Cregger; and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Riggins.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Davis Riggins of the home; one daughter, Joyce R. Cregger of Max Meadows; three sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Novella Riggins of Louisa, Roger Riggins of Winchester and Charles Riggins of Max Meadows; three sisters, Virginia Dimauro of Bradenton, Fla., Mary Martin and Lois Goad, both of Hillsville; two brothers, Fred Riggins of Greensboro, N.C. and Howard Riggins of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; and 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, April 4, from 1 p.m. until service time at Trinity United Methodist Church, or at the residence at any time.

Jack Reynolds Stuart, 62, of Speedwell, died Thursday, April 2, 1998, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Funeral services will be Sunday, April 5, at 2 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Doug Stuart and the Rev. Tim Farmer. Interment will be in the Speedwell United Methodist Church cemetery.
He is survived by his sisters, Aileen Newberry and Barbara Farmer, both of Speedwell; special family, Cleo Kincer of Speedwell, Billy Kincer of Wytheville, Patsy Blevins of Galax, Frances Montgomery of Woodlawn, Danny Kincer of Speedwell, Judy Kincer of Independence, Wanda Cline of Speedwell, Glenda Dunford of Wytheville, and Sharon Melton of Galax; and several nieces and nephews.

Esther Alice Austin, 76, of Route 2, Max Meadows, died Saturday, March 28, 1998, at the residence of her daughter, Donna Moore.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 30, at 11 a.m. at the Reese Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Barnes, the Rev. Robert Lanter and the Rev. Ronald R. Austin officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Zion cemetery.
She was born in Wythe County, a daughter of the late Malcomb and Bell Porter Jones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, French D. Austin.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Donna Faye and Frank Moore of Route 2, Max Meadows, and Brenda Kay Moore of Route 3, Wytheville; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Ray and Wendy Austin of Fountain Inn, S.C.; and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Elsie T. Burris, 93, of Frederick, Md., died Monday, March 30, 1998, at the Northampton Manor Nursing Center in Frederick, Md.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 2, at 11 a.m. at the Hilton Funeral Home, Beallsville Road (Route 109), Barnesville, Md. Interment will be in Black Lick cemetery, Rural Retreat, on Friday, April 3, at 10 a.m.
She was the wife of the late Henry C. Burris. Born in Virginia on June 14, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Harvey C. and Missouri Whisman.
She is survived by one brother, Howard Whisman of Virginia; a niece, Rachel Guynn of Virginia; three great-nephews, James Guynn of Ijamsville, Md., Jerry Guynn of Gaithersburg, Md., and Doug Guynn of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Joyce Ann Huff of Frederick, Md.

John McGinnis "Don" Davis, 68, of Wytheville, died Saturday, March 28, 1998, in Radford Community Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Stella S. Davis; a son, Albert Baine Davis; and a granddaughter.

Minnis D. "Mickey" Eversole, 73, of Salem, died Thursday, March 26, 1998.
A graveside service was held Saturday, March 28, at 1 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem with the Rev. Thomas L. Joyce officiating.
She resided in Wytheville for many years before moving to Salem in 1956. She was a retired technician from ITT where she had worked for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Salem.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil S. Eversole Sr.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce E. and Sonny Tarpley of Salem; two sons and daughters-in-law, Cecil S. "Sonny", Jr. and Cathy Eversole of Salem, and Billie E. and Norma Eversole of Roanoke; four brothers, Sherman Dixon of Wytheville, George Dixon of Cockeysville, Md., Daniel Dixon of Roanoke, and Alvin Dixon of Wytheville; two sisters, Laura Spraker of Wytheville, and Doris Boitnott of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Vickie T. Thomasson, Elizabeth A. Tarpley, Scott Eversole, Craig Eversole, Corrie A. Eversole, and Candi J. Eversole; and four great-grandsons.

He was born in Speedwell, a son of the late Hubert James and Helen Phipps James Buchanan. He was a retired prominent Wythe County Farmer. A member of the board of directors of First Virginia Bank, a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge No. 235 A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite and Kazim Temple of Roanoke, and the New River Shrine Club.
He was preceded in death by a son, Marion James; and a brother, George F. "Jesse" James.
Survivors include his wife, Berlyn "Tootie" Marshall James of the home; one sister, Helen James Groseclose of Bristol; two brothers, William Ford James Rural Retreat, and Vernon Steele James of Bristol; an uncle, Vance James of Radford; and several nieces and nephews.

Iva Madeline Jones Lindamood, 83, of Austinville, the Bethany Community, died Monday, March 30, 1998, at the residence of her sister, Lucille J. Hudson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 1, at 2 p.m. at the Bethany United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald White, the Rev. Bob Billingsley, the Rev. Larry Barnes and the Rev. A.C. Ashford officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.
She was born in Wythe County, a daughter of the late William Lee and Lucy Mabe Jones. She was a lifelong member of the Bethany United Methodist Church and was a retired school teacher with the Wythe County School System with 43 years of service. She was a member of the Lead Mines Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Brown Lindamood; four brothers, R.D. Jones, Robert Jones, Luther Jones, and Floyd Jones; four sisters, Nellie Jones, Emma Jones, Jane Turney, and Cora Mabry.
Survivors include a sister, Lucille Jones Hudson of Route 2, Max Meadows; 15 special nieces and nephews; surrogate grandchildren, Quannah Patrick and Amanda Madeline McDaniel; and numerous great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews.
