Sidney Sherman Davis Jr., 49, of Ivanhoe, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, in the Twin County Regional Hospital.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 28, at 2 p.m. at the Cold Springs United Methodist Church with Mark Linkous and the Rev. Larry Linkous officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
He was born Dec. 9, 1949, in Galax, a son of Sidney Sherman Davis Sr. and Kate Anders Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Maxie Marie Davis of Ivanhoe; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mark Linkous of Ivanhoe; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Amy Davis of Ivanhoe; his father and stepmother, Sidney Sherman Davis Sr. and Joyce Davis of Galax; a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Irving Pratt of Galax; four grandchildren, one stepsister, and four stepbrothers.

Nancy L. Dellinger
Nancy L. Kindleberger Dellinger, 55, of Van Buren, Ark., formerly of Rural Retreat, died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, at her residence.
A graveside service was held Thursday, Aug. 27, at 3 p.m. at the Mountain View cemetery in Rural Retreat with President Steve Martin of the Marion Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
She was born in Ridgely, Md., a daughter of the late Charles Elton and Florence Hackley Kindleberger. She was a member of the Second Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
She is survived by one daughter, Karen Dellinger of Van Buren, Ark.; one son, Keith Stewart of Spruce Pine, N.C.; two sisters, Nonna Collins of Roanoke and Bonnie Phelps of Salt Lake City, Utah; and a devoted friend, Jack Belden of Van Buren, Ark.

Myrtle W. McGrady
Myrtle W. McGrady, 95, of Laurel Fork, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at the Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, at 1 p.m. at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville with Elder Rush Goad, Elder Ronald Mills and Elder Richard Gillespie officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Spurgeon McGrady; two sons, Gordon McGrady and Clyde McGrady; two grandchildren, Sharon Faye Dalton and Timothy Wayne McGrady; and seven brothers.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Joy and Melvin Goad of Laurel Fork, and Georgia and Alvin Dalton of Hillsville; one daughter-in-law, Mary McGrady of Bland; one brother, Clyde Worrel of Mt. Airy, N.C.; one sister, Mary Hall of Mt. Airy, N.C.; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Nellie Morris Combs Smith, 80, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, in Charleston, W.Va.
A graveside service was held Friday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. at the West End cemetery in Wytheville.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tom Combs of St. Albans, W.Va., and Ed and Karen Combs of Fairview Park, Ohio; one stepson, Edward Smith of North Rose, N.Y.; a sister, Vesta Jackson of Wytheville; two brothers, William "Bill" Morris of Max Meadows, and Frank Morris of Dublin; six grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.

Marcine Price Sult, 61, of Aurora, Colo., died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at the residence of her daughter.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 31, at 12:30 p.m. at the Horan-McConaty Funeral Home in Aurora, Colo. Interment will follow in the Ft. Logan National cemetery in Denver, Colo., with full military graveside rites.
She is survived by her husband, Randall F. Sult, formerly of Rural Retreat; a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Linda Sult of Dallas, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammi and Steve Ponzio of Aurora, Colo.; four grandchildren; and her mother-in-law, Alberta Sult of Rural Retreat.

Ester Robert "Bus" Brown, 51, of Wytheville died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1996, in the Bluefield Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Thomas Braxton and Elder Lester Turner officiating. Interment will follow in the Brown Family cemetery in Cripple Creek.
He was an employee at George Wythe High School.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Mathew Brown; and three brothers.
Survivors include his mother, Maggie H. Brown of Wytheville; two daughters, Rita Lee Peoples of Roanoke, and Shannon L. Taylor of Wytheville; two sons and daughter-in-law, Johnathan Robert and Beverly Brown of Wytheville, and Michael Eugene Brown of Marion; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ida Cook, Agnes and Richard Rogers, all of Wytheville, and Stella and Mack Hale of North Fork, W.Va.; a brother, Samuel Brown of Wytheville; and two grandchildren, Johnathan S. Boyce Macklin Dean
Boyce Macklin Dean, 71, of Pulaski died Thursday, Oct. 10, 1996, at his home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Bower Funeral Chapel in Pulaski, with the Rev. Richard Ashworth officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany United Methodist Church cemetery in Poplar Camp. Full military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Pulaski VFW Post No. 1184, Pulaski.
Born Dec. 12, 1924, in Wythe County, he was a son of the late Malcolm Thomas Dean and Margaret Isobel Dean Dean. He was a lifetime member of Pulaski VFW Post No. 1184, Pulaski. He was a retired carpenter and a fuel truck driver for the New River Oils Company and the former M.M. Huffman Oil Company. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United State Marine Corp.
He was preceded in death by a son, Stanley McLane Dean.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Kathryn Turney Dean of Pulaski; five children, Ingrid Yvonne Dean of Pulaski, Curtis Duane Dean of Christiansburg, Mary Ann Dean of Pulaski, Alan Kelly Dean of Christiansburg, and Diana Lynn Dean of Dublin; six grandsons, Chris, Allen, Scott, Barry, Joel, and Ryan; one sister, Joyce Dean Cash of Belleview, Neb.; and three brothers, Vance Dean of Martinsville, Elroy Dean of Draper, and Rex Dean of Pulaski.

Mildred "Pid" Ramsey Dillow, 71, of Bland died Thursday, Oct. 10, 1996, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home in Bland with the Rev. William Hand, the Rev. James Beavers, and the Rev. Tommy Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow in the Bland cemetery.
She was a daughter of the late Otho and Nina Sarver Ramsey and was a member of the Bastian Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Dillow; and three sisters.

Elizabeth A. Hatchell, 66, of Acworth, Ga., died Thursday, Oct. 10, 1996.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m. at Northwest Baptist Church in Acworth, Ga. with Rev. Scott Miller officiating. Entombment will follow at Pine Ridge Memorial Park in Kennesaw, Ga.
A native of Wytheville, she moved to Acworth, Ga. in 1991 from Grafton. She was homemaker, and was a member of Summit Baptist Church in Kennesaw, Ga.
She is survived by Aaron Jay Purcell of Acworth, Ga.; two daughters, Donna Westmoreland of Marietta, Ga., and Diana Reavis of Acworth, Ga.; three brothers, David Anderson of Fredericksburg, Robert Anderson of Roanoke, and Frank Anderson of North Carolina; four sisters, Louise Angel of Warner Robins, Ga., Maude Callahan of Bristol, Tenn., Virginia Thomas of Newport News, and Helen Castle of Baltimore, Md.; and six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

John Douglas Kelly
John Douglas Kelly of Wytheville died Thursday, Oct. 10, 1996, in a Durham, N.C. hospital.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, Oct. 13, at 3:30 p.m. at Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville.
He attended school in Charlotte, N.C., served in the Naval service, attended the University of Maryland Food Service School, and was a member of Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Southern Pines, N.C. where he served as deacon. He was retired as owner of a wholesale food brokerage firm. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Southern Pines, N.C. and a past president of the Wytheville Kiwanis. He had an interest in the Presbyterian Children's Home of the Highlands, and worked with Habitat for the Humanities in North Carolina.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Kelly of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Paul D. and Deloris Kelly of Dobson, N.C., and Steven C. Kelly of Morehead City, N.C.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a Godchild, Michael Wooster of Annapolis, Md.; two sisters, Alma Hagler and Doris Sing, both of Charlotte, N.C.; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Kelly of Charlotte, N.C.

George Eugene "Gene" Mabe, 67, of Route 5, Wytheville, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 1996, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. at the Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald E. Drake Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 9. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.
He was born in Max Meadows, a son of the late Harry S. Mabe Sr. and Ida Via Mabe. He was a retired supervisor from the Xaloy Corporation and was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 9, and the AARP, and was inducted into the Wytheville Sports Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte McAllister Mabe of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tena and Randy Hubble of Kenbridge, and Candice and Don Simmons Jr. of Wytheville; two sons, Chauncey E. Mabe of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Arthur C. "Pete" Mabe of Wytheville; six grandchildren, Alexis Mabe, Rachel Mabe, Karla Mabe, Brian Mabe, Rhiannon Hubble, and Kayla Hubble; one sister, Marjorie "Patty" Jackson of Bracey; and four brothers, William H. "Bill" Mabe Sr., Harry S. "Bobby" Mabe Jr., James E. "Jim" Mabe, all of Max Meadows, and Julian G. Mabe of Lorraine, Ohio.

Virginia Umberger Vaught, 93, of Route 2, Wytheville, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 1996, at her residence.
Graveside services and interment were held Thursday, Oct. 10, 1996, at 11 a.m. at the Davis cemetery with the Rev. Joe Carrico officiating.
She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Aurelia Murray Umberger. She was a graduate of Villa Maria Academy, attended Radford State Teacher College and taught in the Wythe County school system. She was a life member of Huddle Memorial United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and also a member of the UDC and DAR.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Scott Vaught.
Survivors include a son, Walter Thomas Vaught, DVM, of Wytheville; a daughter, Helen V. Aker of Wytheville; grandchildren and spouses, Scott and Patricia Aker, Chris and Brenda Aker, Ginger Porter, David and Teresa Aker, all of Wytheville, and Maxie and T.C. Aker of Max Meadows; four great-grandchildren, Nathan Aker, Cory Aker, Lisa Aker and Brittany Aker; a brother and sister-in-law, John A. and Virgie Umberger; and several nieces and nephews.
