Clarence Elmer "Bud" Hawthorne, 71, of Rural Retreat, died Thursday, July 10, 1997, in the Birdmont Health Care Center, Wytheville.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 13, at 3 p.m. at Sharon Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Hoyle officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Rural Retreat American Legion Post #229.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat.
He was a member of the Sharon Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years and was a U.S. veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Patsye Miller Hawthorne of Rural Retreat; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Alan and Sherry Hawthorne of Rural Retreat, Chief Master Sergeant (Retired) U.S.A.F. Dale and Rosey Hawthorne of Belton, S.C. and Chief Warrant Officer U.S.C.G. Robert "Dimps" Hawthorne of Mt. Vernon; two daughters and son-in-law, Judy H. and Jim Matney of Galax and Nancy H. Delp of Myrtle Beach, SC; four brothers, Kyle Hawthorne of Sugar Grove, Coy Hawthorne of Greensburg, Ky., Dean Hawthorne of Rural Retreat and Camet Hawthorne of Eufaula, Ala.; and two sisters, Okey H. King and Eva H. Williams, both of Rural Retreat.
Seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Rural Retreat Emergency Services.

Carolyn Sue Cox Hill, 49, of Austinville, died Wednesday, July 9, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 12, at 3 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel in Austinville with the Rev. Tommy Barnes officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany cemetery.
She attended Sheeptown Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Beatrice Page Cox.
Survivors include her husband, Dallas Barry Hill of the home; a daughter, Nicky Griffin of Gate City; a son, Tony Fansler of Gate City; her father, J.H. Cox of Clinchport; a sister, Deana Kaylor of Gate City; a brother, Duane Cox of Blountville, Tenn.; a special great-niece, Alicia Correll; and one grandchild, Chandra Griffin.

Ola Cline Keith, 75, of Cripple Creek, died Wednesday, July 9, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 11, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Doug Stuart and the Rev. Rebecca Spicer officiating. Interment followed in St. Peter's Lutheran cemetery in Cripple Creek.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Keith; her parents Crockett and Mary Cline; and five brothers.
Survivors include one son, Ralph Keith of Max Meadows; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jerry Stuart, and Carolyn and Michael Hale, all of Speedwell; one granddaughter, Tracy Stuart; four grandsons, Brian Stuart, Jimmy Keith, Jason Hale, and Joshua Hale; two sisters, Edith Grubb of Wytheville, and Ruth Jones of Fries; four brothers, Pierce Cline of Baltimore, Md., Ernest Cline of Gray, Tenn., Richard Cline of Galax, and Charlie Cline of Greensboro, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Craig Raper Morrell of Vienna, formerly of Wytheville, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, in the Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at the Cove Presbyterian Church in Crocketts Cove with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Sproule officiating. Interment will follow in the Crockett Family cemetery.
She was born in Wytheville, the daughter of the late Robert Allen and Nannie Crockett Raper. She was a graduate of Roanoke Business College. She retired as a sales agent with Reserve Life Insurance Co., in West Palm Beach, Fla. in 1981.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John O. Morrell.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jacqueline and William Rimel of Germantown, Md., and Eugenia and Melvin Rowe of Vienna; a son, John O. Morrell Jr. of Sterling; six grandchildren, Jacqueline Holden, William H. Rimel Jr., Kenneth O. Rimel, Kerry M. Rowe, Steven A. Rowe, and Shelly A. Rowe; and nine great-grandchildren.

Eva L. Sizemore, of Jonesborough, Tenn., formerly of Wytheville, died Wednesday, July 9, 1997, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 11, at 9 p.m. at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Oliver officiating. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 12, at 10 a.m. at Telford cemetery.
She was a native of Cocke County, Tenn. and was the daughter of the late Guston and Ollie Mae Caldwell Jenkins. She was a member of Telford Baptist Church and belonged to several charitable organizations benefiting autistic children. She was retired from Flying J. Travel Plaza in Wytheville.
She is survived by her husband, Homer J. Sizemore of the home; two sisters, Linda Hilbert of Jonesborough, and Sallie White of Johnson City, Tenn.; two brothers, McKinley Jenkins of Johnson City, Tenn., and Tom Jenkins of Waynesboro; a stepson, Bill Sizemore of Kings Mountain, N.C.; and three grandsons, and several cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.

Georgia Ellen Dalton, 85, of Route 1, Ivanhoe, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997, in the Malin Health Care Center.

She was born in Carroll County, a daughter of the late Calvin and Jettie Davidson Sutherland.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Paris Patton and Aaron Dalton.
Survivors include a brother, Homer Sutherland of Ivanhoe; a foster son, Harry Dalton of Route 1, Ivanhoe; and several nieces and nephews.

Dallas Barry Hill, 46, of Route 2, Austinville, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. at the Sheeptown Church of God with Pastor Tommy Barnes and Bill Eubanks officiating. Interment was in the Bethany cemetery.
He was born in Carroll County, a son of the late Graham R. and Margaret Poole Hill and was a member of the Sheeptown Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Sue Hill.
Survivors include a step-daughter, Nickie Griffin of Gate City; a step-son, Tony Fansler of Gate City; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy "Sis" Bergom of Las Vegas, Nev., Betty and Richard Walke of Route 1, Max Meadows, and Bonnie and Duane Taylor of Route 2, Austinville; six brothers and sister-in-law, Alfred Hill of Marion, Ronald Hill of Bristol, Connie Hill of North Carolina, Sid and Pearl Hill of Hillsville, Rupert Hill of Austinville, and Terry Hill of Hillsville; a special niece, Alicia Catrell; a special nephew, Chris Roades; and several other nieces and nephews.

Dennis L. Smith of Clinton, Md., formerly of Bland, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997.
Graveside services and interment will be held Monday, Aug. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Bland cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy M. Smith of the home; four children, Elizabeth Devlin, Shawn D. Hirely, Nancy P. Fletcher, and Gerrie L. Moore; two sisters, Patricia Musgrave, and Virginia Stullor; a brother, James Smith; and five grandsons, and many other relatives and friends.

Donald Taylor
Donald Taylor, 51, of Greer, S.C., died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 1997, at a Tazewell hospital following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 7, at 1 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Tazewell with Father Dan Brady and Russell Hatfield officiating.
He was born in Newburgh, N.Y., a son of Helen Kamar Taylor of Pulaski and the late George Taylor.
He had made his home in Greer for the past nine years and was a graduate of Virginia Tech, Forestry and Wildlife Management with a bachelor of science degree. He was a Kentucky Colonel and was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors in addition to his mother are his wife, Barbara Hankins Taylor; four daughters, Donna Elaine Roe of Hurricane, W.Va., Angela Dawn Hill of Turtle Creek, W.Va., Mary Kathryn Taylor, and Colleen Grayce Taylor, both of the home; one son, J.D. Taylor of the home; two brothers, Robert Taylor of Dublin and John William Taylor of Max Meadows; and one grandchild, Tyler Harvey Taylor.

Sadie Butner Kincer, 64, of Wytheville, died Friday, Aug. 1, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Aug. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with Billy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the East End cemetery.
She was born in Wythe County, a daughter of the late Owens Cecil and Cora Lee Leonard Butner, and was retired from the Jafree Shirt Factory. She was a member of the Wytheville Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Jacob "Jake" Kincer.
Survivors include a son and fiancée, Thomas "Tom" Kincer and Geneva Goode of Cripple Creek; two grandchildren, Scott Kincer and Justin Kincer; two great-granddaughters, Katlyn Kincer and Saralyn Kincer; three sisters, Alice Umberger, Sue Corvin, and Pauline Young, all of Wytheville; a brother, Cecil Butner of Wytheville; and several nieces and nephews.

Irene Wingate Oglesby, 74, of Sherwood East, Wytheville, died Tuesday, July 29, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 1, at 11 a.m. in the Draper Valley Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Preston Sartelle, Rev. Hallett Hullinger, and Rev. Cortez Cooper. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard B. Oglesby.
Survivors include two sisters, Lucille Richardson of Independence, and Margaret Ann Hampton of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Garnett Wingate of Glade Valley, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Fred Crockett Bogle
Fred Crockett Bogle, 85, died Tuesday, July 29, 1997.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 31, at 10 a.m. at Woodall-Tharp Chapel in Lynchburg with the Rev. Ronald T. Davidson officiating. Interment will be Friday, Aug. 1, at 11 a.m. in Sharon cemetery in Ceres.
He was the husband of the late Mabel Ruth Brown Bogle. He was born March 3, 1912, in Ceres, in Bland County, to the late Andrew Napoleon Bogle and the late Luvenia Pruett Bogle. He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church and a retired farmer at Glenacre Farm.
He was preceded in death by his son, Freddie Keith Bogle.
Survivors include his sons and their wives, Dwight E. and Elizabeth Bogle of Roanoke, Dr. Emory C. Bogle of Richmond, H. Gale and Peggy Bogle of Salem, Ronald W. and Mary Jo Bogle of Minneapolis, Minn., Larry W. and Judee Bogle, and W. Wendell and Judy Bogle, all of Lynchburg; his daughters and their husbands, Evelyn F. and Norman Larrimer of Sanford, N.C., and Kay B. and Larry McFadden of Fredericksburg; his sisters, Selma B. Weaver of Silver Spring, Md., and Ella Sue Bish of Pennsylvania; and 22 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 30, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Woodall-Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg; and Thursday, July 31, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home, Bland.
