Danny Lee Cook II
Danny Lee Cook II, 16, of Dublin, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at the Pulaski-William Fleming football game.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 20, at 4 p.m. at the Dublin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard J. Patterson and Pastor Mike Coleman officiating. Entombment followed in the Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Dublin.
He was born on April 21, 1981. He was a junior at Pulaski County High School and a member of the varsity football team wearing jersey No. 77. He also participated in track. He enjoyed music, took voice lessons and was a member of the Pulaski County High School Advanced Concert Choir. He was a member of the Dublin United Methodist Church and the youth choir.
He is survived by his parents, Regina Cook of Dublin, and Danny L. Cook Sr. of Radford; his sister, Michelle Cook of Emory; his grandfather, Frank E. Rosenbaum of Wytheville; a number of aunts and uncles; and his girlfriend, Christie Hurst of Newbern.

Edith S. Fariss, 94, of Kissimmee, Fla., formerly of Wytheville, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997, in Florida.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. at the West End cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Fariss; a son, William Rudolph Igoe; and a grandson, Wesley R. Igoe.
Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Williams of Kissimmee, Fla.; a son, George Robert Igoe of Roanoke; and seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Walter Eric Kliese, 99, of Route 2, Rural Retreat, died Monday, Oct. 20, 1997, in the Edgemont Center in Wytheville.
Memorial services and inurnment will be held at a later date.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Breden Kliese of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Gordon H. and Mary Kliese of the home; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Shevlin of Alpharetta, Ga., and Susan Palmer of Coxsackie, N.Y.; and two great-grandchildren, Megan Shevlin, and Thomas Shevlin.

Stuart Sargent, 77, of Rocky Gap, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, in Bluefield Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m. at the Rocky Gap United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Wilson officiating. Burial was in the French cemetery, Rocky Gap.
He was born Nov. 24, 1919, in Russell County, a son of the late William Walter and Ida Pearl Plaster Sargent.
He was preceded in death by two sons, two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Neal Sargent of Rocky Gap; five daughters, Mrs. Charlie (Brenda) Eversole of Pulaski, Mrs. James (Linda) Moss of Rocky Gap, Mrs. Clayton (Donna) Musick of Bramwell, W.Va., Mrs. Randal (Jody) Morehead of Bland, and Mrs. Kimberly (Kookie) Frymark of Grambrills, Md.; four sons, Kenneth Sargent of Bland, Keith Sargent of Rocky Gap, Karl Lambert of Rocky Gap, and James Lambert of Bland; four brothers, William Sargent of Bluefield, W.Va., Thomas Sargent of Roanoke, Andrew Sargent of Bristol, Tenn., and Henry Sargent of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Helen Slate of Roanoke, and Louise Hall of Bluefield, W.Va.; and 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Henry G. Smith Sr., 92, of Wytheville, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997, in the Edgemont Center.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 1 p.m. at the High Point Baptist Church with the Rev. William A. Austin officiating. Interment will follow in the Murphysville cemetery.
He was born in Rural Retreat, the son of the late Adam and Eva Jackson Smith. He was a member of the High Point Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie E. Smith; two sons, James Smith, and Clark Smith; and a daughter, Virginia Hall.
Survivors include five daughters, Willie Mae Heller, Charlene Ward, both of Bluefield, W.Va., Brenda Hash of Wytheville, Jean Smith of Adelphi, Md., and Terry Price of Rural Retreat; three sons, Rudolph Smith of Tacoma, Wash., Henry G. Smith Jr. of Neunberg, Germany, and John Smith of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Bernadine Hanley of Rural Retreat; 29 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; special friends of the Stoots family and Shirley Cook; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ruby Crowder Ayers
Ruby Crowder Ayers, 72, of Mebane, N.C., died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, in the Dorthea Dix Hospital in Raleigh, N.C.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Hawfields Presbyterian Church with Dr. Angus W. McGregor officiating, interim pastor of Hawfields Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in the Hawfields Presbyterian Church cemetery.
She was born in Austinville and was a snack bar manager at Alamance Community College. She was a member of the Hawfields Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Ayers; and her parents, James Matthew Crowder and Emer Graham Crowder.
Survivors include six sisters, Willie Crowder, Nancy Ann Whitfield, both of Mebane, N.C., Mary Murphy, Jane Williamson, both of Graham, N.C., Jean Wilson of Gibsonville, N.C., and Helen Thomas of Floyd; and one brother, the Rev. Rick Crowder of Burlington, N.C.

Allen Eugene Coe Sr., 56, of Route 1, Austinville, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 19, at 2:30 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel in Austinville with the Rev. Randy Morris, the Rev. Rick Lindamood, and the Rev. Mike Johnston. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery.
He was born in Meadowview, a son of the late Hasel Scott and Mattie Mae Garland Coe. He was a member of the Beech Grove United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Moose. He was retired from Preston Trucking Company.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ruth Holbrook Coe; a son, Nicholas Keith Coe; a daughter, Cynthia R. Wheeler; and a brother, Robert Edward Coe.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis Louise and Buford Grubb Jr. of Max Meadows; a son and daughter-in-law, Allen E. Jr. and Helen Coe of Austinville; two sisters, Betty Smith of Stony Fork, and Elva Sauls of Baltimore, Md.; two brothers, Hasel Wayne Coe of Baltimore, Md., and William Alfred Coe of Stoney Fork; and five grandchildren, Joshua Grubb, Elizabeth Grubb, Amanda Saul, Paul "P.J." Wheeler, and Amber Coe.

Clay P. Corvin, 83, of Route 5, Wytheville, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1997, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m. in the Evergreen United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Robert Layell. Interment will be in West End cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.
He was a retired clerk from Kincer Miller Hardware.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Lou Corvin; and his wife of 56 years, Ettie Robinson Corvin.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Lewey and Mildred Corvin of Wytheville; two grandchildren and spouse, Gregory and Melissa Corvin, and Angela Brittain, all of Wytheville; two great-grandchildren, Megan Brittain, and Tyler Grant Corvin, both of Wytheville.

Glenn Trigg Copenhaver, 82, of Wythe View Drive, Wytheville, formerly of Rural Retreat, died Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, in Edgemont Center.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Mountain View cemetery in Rural Retreat with Pastor Larry M. Bollinger officiating. A lunch and reception will be served immediately following at Grace Lutheran Church.
He was born on Feb. 25, 1915, in Rural Retreat, a son of the late Emerson Trigg and Nancy Buchanan Copenhaver. He was a life-long member of Grace Lutheran Church in Rural Retreat. He was a retired employee of the Virginia Department of Agriculture (Weights and Measures Division).
He was preceded in death by one brother, James H. Copenhaver; and one sister, Mary C. Ackiss.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Beulah Chapman Copenhaver of the home; one daughter, Martha Chapman Rocco of Glendale, Ariz.; three sons and daughter-in-law, Glenn Trigg and Linda Copenhaver II of Waynesboro, Benny Buchanan Copenhaver of Bristol, and Warren Lynn Copenhaver of Fayetteville, N.C.; one sister, Ruth C. Porter of Hampton; 10 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.

Minnie James Cornett, 99, of Troutdale, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, at Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home, Marion.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m. in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence, with the Rev. Fred E. Jennings and the Rev. Eddie Beck officiating. Interment will be in the Central cemetery, Flatridge. She was born May 24, 1898, at Flatridge, to David James and Virginia Missouri Slemp James. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd A. Cornett.
Survivors include three daughters and son-in-law, Clara Cornett Nelson of Merritt Island, Fla., Virginia Cornett Haga Farmer of Marion, Kathleen Cornett and George Funk Jr. of Independence; a son and daughter-in-law, Floyd A. "Tommy" and Jane Crigger Cornett of Wytheville; son-in-law, Roy D. Greer of Pulaski; two sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth Delp of Elk Creek, and Elizabeth and Monroe Nelson of Galax and Marion; and 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was born in Grayson County, a daughter of the late Joseph Calloway and Lois Sells Hall. She was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Lee Davis; and two brothers, Claude and Glenn Hall.
Survivors include three sisters, Edna M. Hall of the home, Juanita H. Hackler, and Ruth H. Fulton, both of Rural Retreat; one niece, Brenda H.
