Hattie Ruth Anderson, 82, a resident of Annaburg Manor, Manassas, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at Prince William Hospital.
Chapel services and interment will be held Thursday, June 11, at 3:30 p.m. at the Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, with the Rev. Robert Cook officiating.
She was born June 22, 1915, in Ceres, a daughter of the late James and Lilly Cassell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hurley Anderson; and her son, Robert "Rob" Harmon.
Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Tedder of Manassas; three sisters, Janie McGuire of Bluefield, W.Va., Bertie Cregger of Roanoke, and Irene Cassell of Ceres; a brother, Harry Cassell of Ceres; and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Harold Carl Arney, 75, of Bluefield, W.Va., died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at his residence.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 1, at 4 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel in Bluefield, W.Va., with the Rev. Nancy H. White officiating. Interment followed in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Courthouse Road, Princeton, W.Va.
Born May 2, 1923, in Canebrake, W.Va., he was a son of the late Dallas Arney and Mary Cassell Arney. He was a mechanic for Rish Equipment Co. for 29 years and a resident of Bluefield, W.Va., most of his life. He was a member of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford Arney, Richard Arney, and Rector Arney; and two sisters, Ruby Arney and Geneva Perdue.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Bobbie J. Ramey Arney of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Carl D. and Sharon Arney of Bland; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernard and Betty Arney of Brushfork, W.Va., and Paul and Ruth Arney of Bluefield, W.Va.; a sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis A. and John Oliver of Bluefield, W.Va.; and four grandchildren, David G. Arney of Bluefield, W.Va., Samantha A. Arney, William B. Arney, and Tyler L. Arney, all of Bland.

Mary Elizabeth Brown Blevins, 74, of Cripple Creek, died Friday, June 5, 1998, in Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 8, at 2 p.m. at the Cripple Creek Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Sonny Ayers and the Rev. Everett Mills officiating. Interment followed in the St. Pete's Lutheran cemetery.
She attended the Cripple Creek Church of God of Prophecy.
She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Brown; her husband, James Russell Blevins; one daughter, Juanita Rebecca Blevins; and two sisters, Virginia Ingram and Irene Martin.
Survivors include her mother, Louise Brown of Bassett; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deloria and Curtis Catron of Hillsville, and Abby and Roger Hoback of Wytheville; five sons and daughters-in-law, James Reed and Carol Blevins of Route 3, Wytheville, Joe Blevins of Pulaski, J.R. and Jane Blevins of Bassett, Warren Blevins of Cripple Creek, and Gary and Rita Blevins of Galax; two sisters, Sylvia Hopkins of Pulaski, and Doris Jefferson of Bassett; four brothers, Harold Brown of Collinsville, Roscoe Brown, Bill Brown, both of Bassett, and Dean Brown of Collinsville; and 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Corbett Lee Boone
Corbett Lee Boone, 87, of Salem, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 5, at 11 a.m. in the College Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dwayne J. Westermann officiating. Burial followed in Sherwood Memorial Park.
He was a native of Wythe County until 1945, when he moved to Salem. He was a retired supervisor with the Virginia Department of Forestry where he worked for 31 years. He was a member of College Lutheran Church, Salem, for over 50 years and was also a member of the Salem Historical Society.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gladys Ovella Hoback Boone; a brother and sister-in-law, Virgil and Alice Boone of Speedwell; and a nephew, John D. "J.D." Boone of Speedwell.

Ralph Wayne "Fox" DeBord, 57, of Rural Retreat, formerly of the Old Quarry Community in Saltville, died Saturday, June 6, 1998, in the Roanoke Memorial Rehab. Center in Roanoke.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 10, at 1 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage and the Rev. Charles Blevins officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat.
He was born in Smyth County, a son of the late Robert and Bernice Hatfield DeBord. He was an employee of the Amsco Products in Wytheville.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Dean DeBord; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Ricky Pickle of Rural Retreat; three sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Jennifer DeBord of Draper, Robbie and Diana DeBord of Atkins, and Shane A. DeBord of the home; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Vicky DeBord of Rural Retreat; three grandchildren, Nikki Pickle, Tristi DeBord, and Britney Pickle; and several special nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Kirk of Rural Retreat; one son, Robert Neff Kirk of Rural Retreat; her mother, Bea Neff of Rural Retreat; one sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Chester Jarosz of Rural Retreat; a niece, Debbie Jarosz; and a nephew, Steven Jarosz.

Oral Lee Lively, 85, of Wytheville, died Saturday, June 13, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 16, at 1 p.m. in the Wytheville Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Barry Losey. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. in the Oakwood section of the Resthaven Memorial Park, West Main St., Princeton, W.Va.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Terry Lively; and his wife, Mae Bruster Lively.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Richard Friest of Anchorage, Alaska, and Nancy and Sid Crockett of Wytheville; two sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Bill and Linda Lively of Greenville, S.C., and Bob and Mary Lively of Cary, N.C.; one brother and sister-in-law, Hurl and Jane Lively of Saint Albans, W.Va.; and seven grandchildren, Mike Lively of Roanoke, Mark Friest, Tim Friest, both of Anchorage, Alaska., Melaine Lively of Lancaster, S.C., Adam Lively of Greenville, S.C., John Crockett and Sarah Crockett, both of Wytheville.

Adelaide Newell Miller
Adelaide Newell Miller, 84, of Richmond, died Sunday, June 14, 1998, at Retreat Hospital.
Memorial services will be held Friday, June 19, at 2:30 p.m. at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 1925 Grove Avenue, Richmond. At a later date her ashes will be buried at Oak Hill cemetery, Towanda, Pa.
She served as housemother at the College of William and Mary, Grace Hospital in Richmond, and Richmond Memorial Hospital. A native of Towanda, Pa., she lived in Rural Retreat following her marriage to Robert Jackson Miller. Then they lived in St. Petersburg, Fla., and finally in Richmond for 40 years. She was a member of the Over-Fifty Club, the Senior Center of Richmond and Women's Circle at the Second Presbyterian Church. An accomplished musician who studied at the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music, she assisted in services at the Confederate Home and the Windsor nursing home in Richmond and played the piano at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jackson Miller, formerly of Rural Retreat; her parents, Henry Passmore Newell and Bertha Eveland Newell of Towanda, Pa.; and her brother, Henry Newell of East Orange, N.J.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Mary Gail Miller of Silver Spring, Md., and Suzanne and Walt D. Weiskopf of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; a grandson, Jason Newell Weiskopf of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; two nephews, David Newell of Louisiana, and William F. Bedwell of Richmond; a cousin and close friend, Patricia P. Hickin of Richmond; her care giver, Estelle Branch of Richmond; and a close friend, Frances Joyner of Richmond.

Effie Sutphin Pugh, 92, of Route 3, Wytheville, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 18, at 2 p.m. at the Poplar Camp Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Larry Barnes and the Rev. Bob Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Sutphin Family cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.
She was born in Carroll County, a daughter of the late Bert Monroe and Ella Hardy Midkiff. She was a member of the Liberty Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church.
He was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Pugh; and three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include one daughter, Helen Hale of Route 2, Max Meadows; two grandchildren, Jennifer Ward of Wytheville, and Sonya Roberts of Florida; five great-grandchildren, Rodney Dunford, Arlan Dunford, Neal Quesenberry, Amy Quesenberry, and Randa Dunford; one great-great-granddaughter, Keya Dunford; one sister, Betty Horton of Hillsville; one brother, Floyd Midkiff of Hillsville; several stepchildren, stepgrandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 17, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Home or at the home of her daughter, Helen Hale, at any time.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 15, at 2 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Shupe, the Rev. Hutzel, and the Rev. Meadows officiating. Interment followed in the family cemetery in Bland.
He was born in Bland County, a son of the late Charles Monroe and Mary Texas Repass Thompson.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Patterson Thompson of the home; three sons, C.M. Thompson, James Thompson and Tommy Thompson, all of Bland; six daughters, Sue Grassman of Charlotte, N.C., Mary Margaret Connell of Ivanhoe, Judy Brunk of Bland; Joyce Clemens of Wytheville; Janet Pennington of Wytheville, and Betsy Mutter Brunk of Ceres; two brothers, Paul Thompson of Salem, and Jack Thompson of Marion, N.C.; three sisters, Helen Caldie and Gladys Faulk, both of Newport News, and Letha Olson of Waverly; and 11 grandchildren.

Lois Bell Delp, 87, of Wytheville, formerly of Fries and Ivanhoe, died Thursday, June 11, 1998, in the Birdmont Health Care Center in Wytheville.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 13, at 1 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Home Chapel in Austinville with Elder Joe McGrady officiating. Interment will follow in the Odd Fellows cemetery in Ivanhoe.
She was born in Carroll County, the daughter of the late Walter and Callie Robinson Winesett. She was a member of the Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy C. Bell; second husband, Eli Delp; and a brother, Otto Winesett.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris Bell Gravely of Pulaski; three sons and daughters-in-law, Clayton and Dolly Bell of Fries, Walter and June Bell, and Gerald and Edna Bell, all of Pulaski; a brother, Coolidge Winesett of Ivanhoe; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Sherman Sumpter Dutton
Sherman Sumpter Dutton, 70, of Martinsville, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, in a Martinsville hospital, Henry County.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 13, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Martinsville, and at 3 p.m. at the Fulton United Methodist Church, Rural Retreat. Burial will be in the Kimberlin Lutheran Church cemetery in Rural Retreat with the Rev. E.T. Herndon officiating.
He was born April 9, 1928, in Wythe County to the late George Hobart and Alva Heldreth Dutton. He was the first president of the Patrick-Henry Branch of the University of Virginia, now Patrick Henry Community College. Before moving to Martinsville to head Patrick Henry, he was a public school teacher and administrator in Marion.
He worked as a chemist with Prillaman Pace, was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Martinsville. He was a member of the Martinsville Rotary, United Way, Boy Scouts of America, and Smith Hamilton Bible Class. He was a graduate of Emory & Henry College and received his PhD. from the University of Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Powell Dutton of Martinsville; two daughters, Kathy Dutton Tattersall of Wilmington, N.C., and Lindalee Dutton Edwards of Raleigh, N.C.; one son, David Sumpter Dutton of Danville; one brother, George William Dutton of Rural Retreat; and four grandchildren.
