Peggy Dolan Holston, 70, of Rural Retreat, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 17, at 2 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Doug Stuart officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Community Church cemetery (the Crawfish Valley) in Rural Retreat.
She was a member of the Calvary Full Gospel Church in Crockett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin H. "Bud" Holston.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Michael K. and Patty Holston of Rural Retreat; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Jerry and C.C. Holston of West Virginia; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Linda and Bill Glenn of Staunton; five sisters, Agnes Gaul, Edna McManus, Georgia McManus, Pat McGuinness and Dot Braikovich, all of New Jersey; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, May 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home or at the residence at any time.

Willie Pearl Jackson
Willie Pearl "Bill" Jackson, 81, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 16, at 10 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Leland Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery.
She was born and raised in Wytheville, a daughter of the late Robert N. and Nannie Rose Meredith. She was employed by the silk factory, the shirt factory and later, retired from J. Byrons Department Store. For many years she and her husband maintained homes in Hungry Mother Park in Marion and Hollywood, Fla. In recent years she returned to Wytheville where she made her home. Jackson was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild and was a member of the Rebekah's.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee "Bob" Jackson; two brothers, Walter R. "Buss" Meredith and Richard "Putt" Meredith; two sisters, Ida Lee Jones Makepeace, and Virginia "Mal" Meredith McMillan.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Charles Edwin "Eddie" Shannon, 52, of Wytheville, died Friday, May 8, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at the Reese Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rocky Dalton officiating. Interment followed in the Odd Fellows cemetery, Ivanhoe.
He was employed by the Giles County school system.
He was preceded in death by his father, Otis Edwin Shannon.
Survivors include two daughters, Laura Denise Shannon of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Katherine Diane Shannon of Blacksburg; his mother, Robie Dickins Shannon of Wytheville; and a brother and sister-in-law, George and Dorothea Shannon of Williamsburg.

Hazel McCandless Thompson, 96, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, in the Edgemont Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 15, at 2 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Don Crockett. Interment was in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Rural Retreat.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William G. "Dad" Thompson; four daughters, Frances Ward, Margie Coulson, Jean Taylor and Barbara Florian; and one son, Robert Thompson.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Katherine Thompson, and Ed and Corrine Thompson, all of Wytheville; her mother-in-law, Mae Bell Thompson of Wytheville; and 16 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

LeRoy Robert Umbarger, 84, of Route 1, Bland, died Friday, May 15, 1998, in the Kegley Manor Nursing Home in Bastian.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 17, at 2 p.m. at the Red Oak Church with the Rev. Bill Schoeneman and the Rev. Ralph Kidd officiating. Interment will follow in the Red Oak cemetery in Ceres. The body will be taken to the church one home before service time.
He was born in Bland County, a son of the late Arlie and Mollie Turley Umbarger and was a member of the Red Oak Union Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Keith Umbarger; and two sisters, Cleta Cox and Marie Neel.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Tibbs Umbarger of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Margie and Lonny Gay of Bland, Joan and Frank Chandler of Bland, Vicki and Charley Dillow of Wytheville, and Cindy and Kim Wright of Bland; four sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Becky Umbarger of Bland, Donald and Linda Umbarger of Bristol, John and Cindy Umbarger of Ceres, and Kenny and Jeanie Umbarger of Ceres; a brother, Zeb Vance Umbarger of Radford; 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, 12 stepgrandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren.

Joseph A. Wohlford, 88, of Worthington, Ohio, died Thursday, May 14, 1998, at Kobacker House.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 18, at 10 a.m. at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, Columbus, Ohio. Interment will be in Northlawn Memory Gardens.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mattie C. Wohlford; and first wife, Julia May Wohlford; four brothers; one sister; and two grandsons.

Doris Dixon Boitnott, 65, of Roanoke, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at her home.
A graveside service was held Wednesday, May 13, at 11 a.m. in Mountain View Memorial Park, Franklin County, with Pastor Mark Graham officiating.
She was a life member and former job steward and plant representative for Local No. 2204 of the Communication Workers of America. She retired after 28 years of service with Bell Atlantic.
She is survived by her husband, Bud Boitnott; three daughters, Linda Roberts, Diane Peggins and Mary Moore; two stepsons, Coland Boitnott and Earl Boitnott; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Sherman Dixon of Wytheville, George Dixon of Maryland, Daniel Dixon of Roanoke, and Alvin Dixon of Wytheville; and a sister, Laura Spraker of Wytheville.

He is survived by his wife, Wilda M. Gilbert of Canton, Ohio; a daughter, Terry G. Everett Kermit Haga, 90, of Rural Retreat, formerly of Grayson County, died Monday, May 18, 1998, of lung cancer.

He was a son of the late Everett C. Haga and Laura V. Haga Jenkins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel V. Haga; two brothers and sister-in-law, Clarence C. and Hannah Haga of Pocahontas, and Carl E. Jenkins of Casper, Wyo.

Monty Gene "M.G." Harmon Jr., 37, of Wytheville, died Monday, May 18, 1998, in the Pulaski Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 21, at 1 p.m. at the Liberty Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Lewis Arnold, the Rev. Bobby Lewis, and Ronnie Arnold officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.
He was a graduate of George Wythe High School and a member of Liberty Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was the president of the United States Arm Wrestling Association, member of the Arm Wrestling World Council and project co-ordinator of the Virginia Commonwealth Games.
He is survived by a daughter, Brittany Lynn Harmon of Bland County; his father and mother, Monty G. Sr. and Fredia Goforth Harmon of Wytheville; a sister and brother-in-law, Belva and Jimmy Scott of Max Meadows; his fiancée, Tina Marie Wade of Wytheville; a niece, Sarah Scott; and a nephew, Chris Scott.

John R. "Pa" Tedder, 91, of Max Meadows, died Saturday, May 16, 1998, after a long illness.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 19, at 2 p.m. at the Glenwood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wilson Newman, Pastor Larry Barnes and the Rev. Ronnie Stewart officiating. Interment followed in the Bethany United Methodist Church cemetery.
He was born Jan. 19, 1907, in Washington County, a son of the late William C. and Susie Counts Tedder. He was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church, Barren Springs. He was a 50-year member of Ironworkers Local 697, Roanoke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and five brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia King Tedder; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Nancy King of Sylvatus; three daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen and Jack Primm of Max Meadows, Diane and Chip Hutchinson of Pulaski, Jonette and Jerry Dunn of Bland; five grandchildren and spouses, Eric Primm of Boulder, Colo., Michele and Mike Jennings of Hillsville, Angela and Wayne Viers of Max Meadows, Jenna Dunn and Jonathan Dunn, both of Bland; three great-grandchildren, Robert Dalton, Katrina Dalton and Olivia Brooke Viers; one special granddaughter, Andrea D.
