Stonewall Jackson Tickle
Stonewall Jackson Tickle, 83, of Hillsdale, Ind., died Sunday, Dec. 1, 1996, at his home.
Funeral services were held Dec. 4, 1996, at the Brown Funeral Home in Montezuma, Ind., with the Rev. Wendell Adams officiating. Interment was in the Oakland cemetery at Montezuma.
He was born July 3, 1913, in Pulaski County, the youngest of 15 children born to George Lee Roy Tickle and Ellen Smith Pegram Tickle, the grandson of Jackson Nye Tickle and Mary Tickle, and great-grandson of Hezekiah Tickle. He first married
Mary Lou Tickle on April 7, 1937, in Wythe County. Mary Lou was the daughter of Lemuel Hezekiah Tickle and Ida Louise Blankenship Tickle. Mary Lou Tickle died on July 25, 1938. They had one child, Charles Gardner Tickle. On Oct. 5, 1939, in Wytheville, he married
Mary Elizabeth "Gibby" Carico. They were the parents of four sons and four daughters. She died in Clinton, Ind. on June 26, 1994.
At the time of his death, he was a retired carpenter. He built several homes in the Abingdon area. In 1951 he moved his family to Indiana and worked at his trade with DuPont Company. He served during World War II with the U.S. Marine Corp. He also served with the Japan Occupational Forces for 11 months after the war. As a carpenter, he helped to build houses for the civilian Japanese whose homes were destroyed by the atomic bomb.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Benjamin Trig Tickle, Charles Grant Tickle, Isaac Newton Tickle, Rev. Robert Brown Tickle, Theodore Samuel Tickle, John Nye Tickle and Arthur T. Tickle; and five sisters, Rosa Leona Tickle Smith, Josie Agnes Tickle Jones, Emma Lou Tickle Hoback, Stella Elizabeth Tickle Hoback and Lola Maude Tickle Kitts.
Survivors include the following children, Charles Gardner Tickle of Danville; Roger Tickle of Montezuma, Ind., Ronald Tickle of Dana, Ind., Robert Tickle of Rushville, Ind., Steve Tickle of Greensburg, Ind., Reba Tickle Coonce, Rita Tickle Miller of Hillsdale, Ind., Mary Tickle Snyder of Brownsburg, Ind. and Donna Tickle Richardson of Greenwood, Ind.; a sister, Myrtle Tickle Harden of Kingsport, Tenn.; a brother, Patrick Henry Tickle of Alta, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

James Larkin Corder
James Larkin "Jimmy" Corder, 86, of Little Creek, Bland County, died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 18, at 11 a.m. in the Davis United Methodist Church, Little Creek, conducted by the Rev. Richard Csanyi. Interment will be in the Goshen cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.
He was a retired bus driver for Bland County with 25 years of service. He was the son of the late Benjamin and Frances Davis Corder.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Davis Corder; two sons, Calvin Corder and Paul Corder; one sister and six brothers.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Ralph Hancock of Little Creek; one son and daughter-in-law, Fred C. and Martha Corder of Little Creek; one sister, Luella Farmer of Deming, N.M.; one brother, Fayette Corder of Pulaski; a special friend, Richard Matz of Little Creek; and six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret Crockett Arnold
Margaret Crockett Arnold, 77, of Howardsville, died Friday, April 17, 1998, at her home.
Born Oct. 23, 1920, in Wytheville, she was the daughter of the late George B. and Ruth Stell Crockett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Keister H. Arnold Jr.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ruth Dewitt, and Georgia L. Crockett, both of Lebanon, Tenn.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Beathe Animal Shelter, Dillwyn, VA 23936.

Mabel Gertrude Kitts Davis
Mabel Gertrude Kitts Davis, 88, of Dublin, the Little Creek Community, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 21, at 1:30 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Richard Csanyi officiating. Interment followed in the Hidden Valley cemetery.
She was born in Bland County, a daughter of the late Robert and Bertha Davis Kitts and was a member of the Davis Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Davis; a brother, and seven sisters.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Euvada and Oscar Hylton of Bassett, and Mildred and Randy Davis of Little Creek; a son and daughter-in-law, Dayton and Kay Davis of Bassett; two sisters, Ruth Newberry of Mechanicsburg, and Lute Harrington of Rochester Hills, Mich.; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Davis Chapel United Methodist Church or the charity of their choice.

Clarence Eugene Kingrea, 64, of Christiansburg, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, in the Montgomery County Hospital.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 21, at 2 p.m. at the Bethany cemetery, Wythe County.
He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late Hugh M. Kingrea and Nancy Edmonds Kingrea Tolbert.
He is survived by a sister, Thelma King of Baltimore, Md.; a brother and sister-in-law, James Lee and Betty Kingrea of Christiansburg; a half-brother, Monroe Kingrea Jr. of Elliston; two nieces, Jessica Kingrea, and Stephanie Kingrea, both of Vinton; a nephew, Wally King of Baltimore, Md.; and a great-nephew, Bart King of Baltimore, Md.

R.D. McFarland
R.D. McFarland, 54, of Rural Retreat, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 19, at 2 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Boyer and the Rev. Michael Hoyle officiating. Interment followed in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat.
He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late Daniel and Ruby Stowers McFarland. He was an employee of the English Construction Company.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Brady McFarland of the home; two daughters, Sharon Caldwell, and Karen Cameron, both of Rural Retreat; two sisters, Mary Dell Musser of Max Meadows, and Debbie Parks of Rural Retreat; a brother, William Franklin McFarland of Rural Retreat; and four grandchildren, Rebecca Wohlford, Jake Cameron, Jessica Caldwell, and Shannon Caldwell.

David Mishio
David Mishio, 40, of Spartanburg, S.C., died April 20, 1998, in Pickens County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 23, at 4 p.m. at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel conducted by the Rev. Joey Turner. Funeral services will also be Friday, April 24, at 2:30 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville. Burial will be in West End cemetery, Wytheville.
A native of Maine, he was a son of Donald G. Mishio and the late Anna Willey Mishio. He was employed with Bigham Cable Construction Co. and was a member of Victory Christian Fellowship.
He was preceded in death by an extra special buddy, Robbie Fasano.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Fasano Mishio of the home; one son, Benjamin David Mishio of the home; three brothers, Richard Mishio of Maine, Donald Mishio Jr. of Greenville, S.C., and Everett Mishio of Maine; one sister, Sherry Kearsey of New Hampshire; several nieces and nephews; and a special aunt and uncle, Joyce and Everett Willey.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, Spartanburg, S.C. and Friday, April 24, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville.

George Elbert Phillippi, 81, of Wytheville, died Monday, April 20, 1998, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 22, at 2 p.m. at the Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Drake officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time. American Legion Post No. 9 will conduct graveside military rites.
He was born in Pulaski County, a son of the late Clinton and Myrtle Roberts Phillippi and attended the Fellowship Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Callahan, and Kathleen Kesner; and two brothers, Lawrence Phillippi, and Earnest Phillippi.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie Catron Phillippi of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Lincoln Tate of Dublin, Barbarba and Jerry Martin of Max Meadows, Janet and Carl Hall of Cummings, Ga., and Judith Six of Wytheville; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

James Edgar "Edd" Porter, 76, of Max Meadows, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Wythe County, March 2, 1922, to the late Andy and Leona Cress Porter.
He was preceded in death by a son, Harold Douglas Porter; and three sisters, Carrie Price, Marie Porter, and Dorothy Price.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Irene Phipps Byrd Porter of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Albert "Jack" Dunford of Max Meadows, Kathy and Junior Mabry of Foster Falls, and Carol and J.D. She was born in Bland County, a daughter of the late John Ambrose and Minnie A. Duncan Dillow.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everette Fulton "B" Repass.
Survivors include four sisters, Janella Pauley, Nannie King, Helen King, all of Bland, and Betty Sadler of Eustis, Fla.; a brother, N.D. Dillow of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was born in Wythe County, a daughter of the late Hubert W. and Bessie Lineberry Burchett. She was a member of Forest United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Randolph Sparks; two sisters, Eulala Taylor, and Imogene King; and one brother, Ralph Burchett.
