Ruby Kidd Looney, 86, of Hiwassee, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, in the Pulaksi Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lewis Weaver officiating. Interment followed in the Bogle cemetery, Route 1, Bastian.
She was the daughter of the late Vernie and Annie Heileman Kidd.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erby Looney.
Survivors include two sons, Buford Looney of Hiwassee, and Howard Looney of Dublin; three sisters, Opal K. Looney, Pearl K. O'Farrell, and Lucy Kidd, all of Bastian; one brother, Herman Kidd of Tazewell; two granddaughters.

Joseph Repass Morehead
Joseph Repass Morehead, 89, died Friday, Dec. 13, 1996, in Orlando, Fla. after a long illness.
Memorial and graveside services were held Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Woodlawn cemetery, Orlando, Fla.
He was born Jan. 12, 1907, in Wythe County to George Brown and Lily Fisher Morehead. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and later a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Wytheville. After graduating from Roanoke College, he was employed by the National Cash Register Company, for a time he managed their offices in Bristol and in St. Petersburg, Fla. He later become manager for Orlando and East Central Florida. He lived in Orlando from 1947 until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Nee Daniel; and son, George Reed Morehead of Orlando.

William Luther Snavely
William Luther "Bill" Snavely, 78, of Fairview Road, Wytheville, died Saturday, Janu. 4, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran church with Pastor Larry M. Bollinger, the Rev. Norman Wilhoit, and Dr. Charles C. Burnett officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Frank and Lena Baumgardner Snavely. He was a life time member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rural Retreat where he served as a councilman and trustee, a past member of the Wythe County Rescue Squad, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and a shop foreman at new cardealerships in Wythe and Smyth counties for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hurt Snavely of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Teresa Snavely of Marion; two granddaughters, Kara Snavely and Ashley Snavely; one step-daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Ray Dossett of Morehead City, N.C.; one step-son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Caroline Hurt of Smithfield; four step-grandsons, Keith Dossett, Todd Dossett, Darden Hurt, and Robby Hurt; and one step-great-granddaughter, Megan Dossett.

John William Burcham Sr.
John William Burcham Sr., 82, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, in the Birdmont Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Fellowship Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald E. Drake Sr. officiating. Interment followed in the West End cemetery.
He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Montegue and Mary Bell Burcham. He was a retired Wythe County farmer and was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Q. Burcham; one son and daughter-in-law, John Jr. and Mary Burcham of Wytheville; four grandchildren, Steve and Shari Burcham of Pulaski, Craig and Stacie Burcham of Japan, Elaine Burcham of Wytheville, and Mike and Carol Brendel of Catawba, N.C.; eight great-grandchildren, Jill, Justine, Schuyler, John, Hannah, Samuel, Christina and Michael; one sister, Ollie Fisher of Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth Brown Kegley
Ruth Brown Kegley, 89, of Bland, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, after a short illness.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. at Newberry Funeral Home, Bland. Graveside services followed at the Kegley cemetery.
She was born in Portsmouth on July 13, 1907, the daughter of James S. and Ethel Miller Brown. She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth and Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg. She taught in the Bland County School system from 1942 to 1972, and substitute taught for 18 years following her retirement. While at Bland High School, she coached women's basketball and was very involved in directing Drama Club presentations. She helped write and direct the Bland County Bicentennial pageant in 1961 "Down Through The Ages." She also wrote and directed the Bland County Harvest Festival for 11 years. She was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Presbyterian Church and Women of the Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Judge Pierce C. Kegley; and one son, Fulton Brown Kegley.
Survivors include one son, Robert Pierce Kegley of Bland; two daughter-in-laws, Jessie Davis Kegley of Bland, and Betty Myers Kegley of Staunton; one brother and sister-in-law, Sherwood S. and Virginia Brown of Portsmouth; eight grandchildren, Susan Kay Kegley Houston of Salem, Mary Huffard Kegley-Scott of Charlottesville, Sarah Nickati Kegley of Atlanta, Ga., Tracy Matilda Kegley Dransfield of Gap Mills, W.Va., Roberta Ruth Kegley Morrissey of Alexandria, Fulton Brown Kegley II of Staunton, Clinton Sherwood Kegley of Bland, and Robert Mitchell Kegley of Bland; and four great-grandchildren.

Frank Adam Amburn, 72, of Wytheville, Va., died Saturday July 27, 2002, in the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 30, at 2 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. W.T. Meredith officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen cemetery, Wythe County, Va.
He was a son of the late Jason and Carrie Eversole Amburn. He was retired from Coleman Furniture Co., Pulaski, Va., and was a member of Lee Street Church of God.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, two sisters and one brother.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Amburn of Wytheville, Va.; six daughters, Belinda LaRoue of Lewistown, Mont., Crystal Jackson of Wytheville, Va., Vicki Hoback of Wytheville, Va., Judy Jarrells of Vinton, Va., Barbara Viars of Wytheville, Va., and Shelia Houchins of Wytheville, Va.; three sons, Danny Amburn of Wytheville, Va., Jerry Amburn of Kanapolis, N.C., and Ronnie Amburn of Rural Retreat, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Betty Amburn of Wytheville, Va.; 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; special niece, Patsy Dunford of Salem, Va.; and several other nieces and nephews.

Christopher Michael Crockett, infant, of Wytheville, Va., died Saturday, July 27, 2002, in the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert Lee Shupe; and his paternal grandmother, Lena Faye Crockett.

Charles Eugene Glover Charles Eugene "Gene" Glover, 84, of Meadowview, Va., died Sunday, July 28, 2002 at the Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.

He was born in Bristol, Tenn., and had lived most of his life in Washington County, Va. He was the son of the late Adam C. Sr. and Margaret S. Glover. He was the former owner of Glover Cleaners, was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II and was of the Christian faith.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Etta G. Glover; one son, Alan "Tom" Glover of Meadowview, Va.; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna G. and Don Rector of Wytheville, Va.; two brothers, James Glover of Abingdon, Va., and A.C. Glover Jr. of Fredricksburg, Va.; four sisters, Helen Branco and Ruth Jordan, both of Bristol, Va., Mary March of Michigan and Wayne White of Roanoke, Va.; two grandchildren, Tracy Smythers Pauley and Don B. Howard Garnett Jones, 70, of Vansant, Va., died Monday, July 22, 2002, at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy, Va.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at Haysi Funeral Home with Denver Barton, David Owen and D.J. Barton officiating. Burial will follow in the Deel Family cemetery in the Little Fox section of Route 1, Vansant, Va. American Legion Post 164 will conduct military graveside rites.
Born in Rural Retreat, Va., he was a son of the late George Harvey and Edith Sage Jones. He was retired from the United States Air Force where he was last employed as a computer operator at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. He was a member of the Russell Fork Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Deel Jones; two sisters, Jean Copenhaver of Crockett, Va., and Nena Caroll Jones of Rural Retreat, Va.; and one nephew, David Copenhaver of Kingsport, Tenn.

Joseph White McCarthy III
Joseph White McCarthy III, 43, of Wytheville, Va., and formerly of Lynchburg, Va., died Monday, July 22, 2002, as the result of injuries after being hit by vehicle while working.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at St. Johnis Episcopal Church, Lynchburg, with the Rev. Frank Dunn officiating. A private graveside service will be held in Spring Hill cemetery.
Born May 18, 1959, in Lynchburg, Va., he was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School and graduated from Virginia Military Institute with a bacheloris degree in civil engineering. He was a member of St. Johnis Episcopal Church in Lynchburg, Va. He attended St. Johnis Episcopal Church in Wytheville, Va. He was interested in the Civil War and was an authority and lectured on the Battle of McDowell that took place in Virginia. He served in the United States Army after graduating from VMI with the rank of captain. He was employed by VMS Inc. as a civil engineer.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles Langhorne Lewis and Helen Thomas Lewis and Joseph White and Alma Walker McCarthy.
Survivors include his parents, Joseph White and Langhorne Lewis McCarthy Jr. of Lynchburg, Va.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Lewis and Beth Ann McCarthy of Chesapeake, Va., John Thomas and Jennifer McCarthy of Lynchburg, Va.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Langhorne McCarthy and Wade Stinnette of Columbia, S.C. and Laura Alma McCarthy-Spear and Matt Spear of Charlotte, N.C.; nine nieces and nephews, Langhorne Lewis Stinnette, Kathryn Chafee Stinnette, William Walker Stinnette, Charles Lewis McCarthy Jr., Caroline Rose McCarthy, Meredith Patricia McCarthy, John Thomas McCarthy Jr., Robert Huntley McCarthy and Virginia Lewis McCarthy; and a uncle and aunts, Warren Maynard Goddard Jr., Ann McCarthy Goddard and Helen Lewis Holt.
