Beaulah King Mabe Hill

Beaulah King Mabe Hill, 89, of Ivanhoe, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 1996, in the Birdmont Health Care Center in Wytheville.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m. at the Ivanhoe Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. William Hill and the Rev. Earl Hanks officiating. Interment followed in the Odd Fellows cemetery.

She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late Walter P. and Lena Jones King. She was a charter member of the Ivanhoe Pentecostal Holiness Church where she served as pianist for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ambrose A. Mabe and John R. Hill; three stepsons, Walter R. Mabe, Ralph Hill and Clyde Hill; and a stepdaughter and spouse, Lulu and Henry Doyle.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Harold Mabe of Austinville, Burlin and Lillian Mabe of Route 3, Wytheville, and Beauford and Vinnia Mabe of Bristol; four stepdaughters and spouses, Edith and Matthew King of Collinsville, Laura and Lee Williams of Wytheville, Henrietta Ingo of Ivanhoe, and Hazel Hill of Richmond; two stepdaughters-in-law, Wilma and Martha Hill of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren, 34 step-great-grandchildren, and several step-great-great-grandchildren.

Reese Funeral Home in Austinville was in charge of the arrangements.

Remus Franklin Oscar

Remus Franklin Oscar, 73, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1996, in the Birdmont Health Care Center.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Grubb Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Frank Bauman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Parkey Astin Oscar.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Haines of Wesley Chapel, Florida; three sisters, Anna Bell Graves, Margaret Wentworth, and Jean Oscar; two brothers, Norman Oscar, and Roy Oscar; and one grandchild, William Shae.

The Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Gordon Eugene Seagle

Gordon Eugene "Sonny" Seagle, 67, of Route 4, Wytheville, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1996, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville. Interment will follow in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat.

He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late William Cloyd and Ollie Etter Collins Seagle.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Seagle of the home; five daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Joseph R. Bassetti Jr. of Wytheville; Patty and Claude Earheart of Stony Fork, Cathy and Blaine Krunich of Wytheville, Debra and Richard Crouse of Cripple Creek, and Tracy and Victor Akers of Fort Chiswell; a son, William Seagle of Stony Fork; five sisters, Nancy Woolheater of Wytheville, Christine Stafford of Greensboro, N.C., Rachel Aker of Wytheville, Helen King of Thurman, N.C., and Harriet Miller of Baltimore, Md.; two brothers, Thomas "John" Seagle of Wytheville, and Walter "Bub" Seagle of Alabama; 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home or at the homes of his daughters, Cathy Krunich, West Pine Street, Wytheville, or Teresa Bassetti, West Jefferson Street, Wytheville, at any time.

David Green Brunk

David Green Brunk, 44, of Max Meadows, died Friday, Nov. 15, 1996, at the residence of his sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Wayne Jackson of Max Meadows.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m. at the Gillman Funeral Chapel. Interment followed in the St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery.

He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, James and Margie Brunk of Florida; a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Wayne Jackson of Max Meadows; one niece and nephew-in-law, Janie and Terry Justice of Max Meadows; and three nephews, Joseph Wayne Jackson, William David Jackson, both of Max Meadows, and Christopher Brunk of Florida.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations by made to the Hospice Support Services of Wythe and Bland Counties.

Gertrude Hill Campbell

Gertrude Hill Campbell, 73, of Austinville died Friday, Nov. 15, 1996, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Beulah United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Barnes and the Rev. Jerry Long officiating. Interment follow in the Bethany cemetery.

She was the daughter of the late Sanders and Lilly Delp Hill and was a member of the Beulah United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Swanson Campbell of the home; two daughters and son-in-law, Sandra Shirley of Gauteir, Miss., and Peggy and Kegley Baumgardner of Verona; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Joann Campbell of Route 2, Austinville; four grandchildren, Greg and Brad Campbell, Todd Shirley, and Kim Dalton; four great-grandchildren, Jade, Joshua, Willie and Steven; two step-grandchildren, Brandon and Dusty; a sister, Alice Riggins of Greensboro, N.C.; a brother, Emory Hill of Route 2, Austinville; and several nieces and nephews.

Walter A. Hall

Walter A. Hall, 89, of Ivanhoe died Saturday, Nov. 16, 1996, in Kegley Manor in Bastian.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with Jack King officiating. Interment followed in the Odd Fellows cemetery.

He was born in Elliston, a son of the late Walter B. and Lucy Helm Hall. He was a retired foreman of the National Carbide Company and served with the Wythe County Sheriff's Department for more than 10 years. After his retirement, he served as a security guard at the New Jersey Zinc Company. He was a member of the Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge No. 235, A.F. & A.M.; former member of the Ivanhoe Band and former catcher with the Ivanhoe baseball team.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kathleen Sangster Hall; and a sister, Minnie H. Heslep.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Roger Repass of Route 3, Max Meadows; two grandchildren, Eric Sean Repass, and John Stewart "Bo" Repass; one great-grandchild, Michael Anthony Repass; one sister, Elizabeth O. Robertson of Salem; one brother, Roy N. Hall of Suffolk; and several nieces and nephews.

Ollie Eversole Kincer

Ollie Eversole Kincer, 91, of Wytheville died Sunday, Nov. 17, 1996, in the Birdmont Health Care Center.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 3 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Joe Carrico. Interment was in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Rural Retreat.

She was retired nurses aid from Virginia's Rest Home and was the widow of Brown R. Kincer.

She is survived by a brother, Taylor Eversole of Wytheville; a special friend, Lawrence Umberger of Wytheville; and several nieces and nephews.

Virginia Lucille Scott Moody

Virginia Lucille Scott Moody, 72, of Route 2, Dublin, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 1996, in the Columbia Pulaski Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 3 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dale Akers and the Rev. Willard Eversole officiating. Interment followed in the Thomas Family cemetery.

She was born in Wythe County, a daughter of the late Floyd Allen Scott and Lucy Belle Arnold Scott. She was a member of the Pulaski Church of God.

She was preceded in death by two sons, William Thomas, and Alton Thomas.

Survivors include ten daughters, Cynthia Cantrell of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Della Cole, Jennifer Hall, Sherrill Thomas, Pauline Freeman, all of Pulaski, Donna Hall, Jeanette Dickerson, both of Dublin, Cleita Carter of Spotsylvania, Christine Bingman of Mt. Airy, N.C., and Rita Thomas of Fredrick, Md.; four sons, Kenneth Richardson Sr. of Indian Valley, Chester Richardson of High Point, N.C., Jerry Thomas, and Robert Thomas Sr., both of Max Meadows; 37 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Elizabeth Bralley of Max Meadows; and a special cousin, Oscar Surratt of Max Meadows.

Morris Dixon Porter

Morris Dixon Porter, 71, of Wytheville died Monday, Nov. 18, 1996, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with Jack King and Rev. Roger Crigger officiating. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery. The American Legion Post No. 9 will conduct graveside military rites. The Wytheville Masonic Lodge No. 82, A.F. & A.M. conducted a memorial service Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 8 p.m.

He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Thomas Hall Porter and Lula Hazel Taylor Porter. He was a retired electrician and plumber and a member of the Olive Branch United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Wytheville Masonic Lodge No. 82, A.F. & A.M. and a member of the American Legion Post No. 9 for 40 years, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Nora Crigger Porter of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and David Safewright of Wytheville; a special sister-in-law, Elizabeth Crigger of Wytheville; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy M. Porter of Route 3, Wytheville, Betty Wade of Salem, Marie and Walter Payne of Route 2, Max Meadows, Nina and Sidney Smith Jr. of Richmond, and Audrey and Duane Jonas of Route 3, Wytheville; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas W. and Edith Porter of Austinville; and several nieces and nephews.

Emily Chrisley Sayers

Emily Chrisley Sayers, 77, of Wytheville died Saturday, Nov. 16, 1996, in the Montgomery Regional Hospital, Blacksburg.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. in the Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment was held in the church cemetery.

She was the daughter of the late William Henry and Margaret R. Chrisley.

She was preceded in death by husband, Edd J. Sayers.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty J. Sayers of Blacksburg; three sisters, Frances Wright of Ravenna, Ohio, Bessie Earhart of Wytheville, Dollie Gravley of Max Meadows; two grandchildren and spouses, Dane and Samantha Cochran of Max Meadows, and Tammy and Greg Turner of Ivanhoe; and three great-grandchildren, Dexter, Roger and Devin.

Eleanore Smart Schoeneman

Eleanore Smart Schoeneman, 85, died Sunday, Nov. 17, in the George B. Kegley Manor Nursing Home in Bastian.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 22 at 11 a.m. at the Melrose United Methodist Church in Melrose, Fla. with the Rev. Janie Neil Hickman and Rev. Al Vaught officiating. Burial will follow in the Eliam cemetery in Melrose, Fla.

She was the widow of Albert Schoeneman. She was the daughter of the late Isaiah and Eleanore Hupfer Smart. She was a graduate of the New York University, in New York City, N.Y. She wrote "Around Town News" for the Gainesville Sun, Palatka Daily News and the Lake Area Monitor for 15 years. She was a member of the Melrose Women's Club, Melrose Library Board, Melrose Action Committee, Melrose Chapter AARP and served on the Melrose Arts & Crafts Festival Committee. She was a member of the Melrose United Methodist Women having served as president and currently was a member of the Red Oak United Methodist Women and the Bland County Senior Citizens.

She is survived by one daughter, Gail Strickland of Micanopy, Fla.; one son, Rev. William "Bill" Schoeneman of Ceres; four grandchildren, Dorothy Svoboda of Orlando, Fla., Stephen Svoboda of Jacksonville, Fla., James Schoeneman of Warner Robins, Ga., and Andrew Schoeneman of Ceres; three great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Jane Jenkins of Manhasset, N.Y.

Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to the Holston United Methodist Home for Children, P.O. 188, Greeneville, Tenn. 37744 or to the Melrose United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 576, Melrose, Fla. 32666.

Joseph Thomas Wilson Sr.

Joseph Thomas Wilson Sr., 84, of Rocky Mount, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 1996, in the Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Wytheville with the Rev. Bob Johnson officiating.

He was born in Coeburn, the son of the late E.J. and Trudie Wilson. He was a retired foreman with Island Creek Coal Company with more than 40 years of service and during the '30's and '40's played baseball in the Coalfield League where he was known as "Smokey Joe".

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Frances Alexander Wilson.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe T. Jr. and Mildred Wilson of West Lake, and Michael L. and Jeanne Wilson of Ferrum; four grandchildren, Joe T. Wilson III, Teresa Crawford, Michelle Wilson, and Susan Wilson; five great-grandchildren, Joe T. Wilson IV, Annie Wilson, Kayla Wilson, Alec Crawford, and Corey Crawford; and one sister, June Altice of Daytona Beach, Fla.

Christopher Dale Yonce

Christopher "Chris" Dale Yonce, 17, of Pulaski, died Monday, Nov. 18, 1996, in the Columbia Pulaski Community Hospital as a result of an automobile accident on Route 11, Pulaski.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m. at the Bob White Blvd. Church of God, Pulaski, with the Rev. Geary Jonas, Rev. Kindle Arnold and Rev. Richard Ashworth officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin.

Born Aug. 16, 1979 in Pulaski. He was the son of Michael Dean Yonce and Judith Arlene Freeman Yonce. He was a member of the Dublin Church of God of Prophecy, Dublin. He was a senior at Pulaski County High School, Dublin, where he was an Honor Roll Student with a 4.08 average, a member of Mountain Academic Conference Competition, National Honor Society, and was on the yearbook staff.

His sister, Stephanie "Runt" Charlene Yonce, also died Nov. 18 as a result of the automobile accident.

He is survived by his father, Michael Dean Yonce of Roanoke; mother, Judith Arlene Freeman Yonce of Pulaski; maternal grandfather, Ernest Carl Freeman of Austinville; maternal grandmother, Helen Eugene Linville Freeman of Pulaski; paternal grandparents, Robert Draper Yonce and Hilda Jean Via Yonce of Pulaski; paternal great-grandmother, Maxie Stoots of Pulaski; and a number of aunts and uncles, great-aunts and uncles, relatives, and friends.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bob White Blvd., Pulaski.
