Anna A. Hess
Anna A. Hess, 86, of Calvary Fellowship Homes, Lancaster, Pa., died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, after a brief illness.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 29, at 10 a.m. at Calvary Church in Lancaster, Pa., with Pastor Walter B. Jackson officiating. Interment was in the Millersville Mennonite cemetery, Millersville, Pa.
A 1945 graduate of Lancaster Bible College, she was an independent missionary in the Appalachian region of Virginia including Wythe County. She also taught Bible in public schools and taught Bible school in the summers. She also lead outdoor Bible studies and prayer groups and taught Sunday school. She was a member of Calvary Church in Lancaster. Born in Millersville, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Milton B. Sr. and Blanche M. Waller Hess.
She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Milton B. Jr. and Marion Hess of Lancaster, Pa.; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gladys M. and Donald L. Stock, and Blanche M. and William H. Smith Jr., all of Lancaster, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Anna's memory to the Missionary Society Fund of Calvary Church, 1401 Esbenshade Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601.

John Preston Seabolt
John Preston Seabolt, 61, of Spruce St., Marion, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 1 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Hoyle officiating. Interment will follow in the Kimberlin Lutheran Church cemetery in Rural Retreat.
He was born in Smyth County, a son of the late Samuel Seabolt and Effie Carmel Smith Parks.
He is survived by one daughter, Valerie Effie Seabolt of La Center, Ky.; two sons, John Anthony Seabolt of Gaithersburg, Md., and Roger Blaine Seabolt of Marion; one stepdaughter, Sharon Sue Crandall of Marion; one stepson, Tommy Lee Ring of Danville, Ill.; one brother, Marion Byrd Seabolt of Rural Retreat; four half-brothers, Bobby Dean Parks of Rural Retreat, Ray Vernon Parks, Kenneth Eugene Parks, and Ancil Perry Parks, all of Wytheville; six grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, one-great-granddaughter, and six step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m at the Lindsey Funeral Home.

Nancy Loretta Hoback Sharitz, 50, of Wytheville, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 2, at 11 a.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Steve Tilley officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her father, John W. Hoback; a sister, Jackie Sharitz; and a brother, Larry Jay Hoback.
Survivors include her husband, Dewey Sharitz of the home; two daughters, Debbie Lynn Sharitz Dunford, and Linda Carol Sharitz, both of Wytheville; a son, Robert William Sharitz of Bluefield, W.Va.; her mother, Lloyd K. Hoback of Wytheville; a sister and brother-in-law, Ora Mae and Roy Murray of Wytheville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger William and Abby Hoback, Johnny Ray and Linda Hoback, all of Wytheville; two grandchildren, Crystal Lynn Dunford, and Victoria Loretta Dunford, both of Wytheville; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 1, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home or at the residence at any time.

Eli W. "Dub" Barker, 72, of Marion, died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at home.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at 11 a.m. at Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. William Slater and the Rev. Charles E. Blevins Sr. officiating. Interment followed in Troutdale cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Fannie Alice Martin Barker of Marion; two daughters, Anne Greer of Apopka, Fla. and Fran Horne of Wytheville; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and five sisters, Stella Craft, Jean Gillispie, Nellie Smith and Goldie Carpenter, all of Marion, and Allene Roop of Bristol.

Bessie Grubb Catron
Bessie Grubb Catron, 88, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, in Edgemont Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at 2 p.m. in the Crockett Tabernacle conducted by the Rev. Richard Collins. Interment will be in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Rural Retreat. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.
She was the widow of Watson O. Catron and was a life member of Crockett Tabernacle.
She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Lois Catron, and William T. Catron, all of Wytheville; one sister, Beatrice "Bea" Neff of Wytheville; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Cecil Grubb and Mrs. Tom Grubb, both of Wytheville; and two grandchildren, Alicia Catron and Sean Catron, both of Wytheville.

Garfield Moffat Douglas
Garfield Moffat Douglas, 73, of Waynesboro, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, while visiting family in Northern Virginia.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 4, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Enders & Shirley Funeral Home of Berryville with the Rev. Thomas T. Biggs officiating.
Born on Sept. 16, 1924, he was a son of the late Garfield E. and Myrtle Hestad Douglas. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant. He was nationally known and recognized for his work with Angus cattle.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Keller Douglas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Gerry Seely of Midlothian, Kelly and Sam Crawford of Barren Springs, and Holly and Mickey Porter of Davenport, Iowa; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Cheree Douglas of Boyce, and Timothy and Kathi Douglas of Berryville; one sister, Helen Stennes of Bakersfield, Calif.; one brother, Bruce Douglas of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Jessica and Jason Seely, Sara and Jeff Crawford, Emily Porter, Lee Ann Douglas, Jamie Bogle, Jennifer and Scott Douglas; and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry Michael Flinchum, 42, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, in Anaheim, Calif.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at 3 p.m. in the Harbor Lawn-Mount Olive Mortuary Chapel in Costa Mesa, Calif. Inurnment will be held in Wytheville in the spring of 1998.
He was born in Wytheville on July 16, 1955 and was a graduate of George Wythe High School.
He is survived by his half sister, Barbara Lewis of South Carolina; cousins, Donna Weber of Fountain Valley, Calif., Chet Anderson of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; and a host of cousins in Virginia.

Donna Helen Lee, 47, of Wytheville, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Lee of Wytheville; a son; a daughter, Tina Clarkston of Connecticut; her parents, Walter and Gil Bottomley of Florida; a brother, Bruce Bottomley of California; a sister, Denise Bowers of Wytheville; and three grandchildren.

Everette W. Leedy, 83, of Shenandoah Ave., Bluefield, W.Va., died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at the Rosewood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Rural Retreat with the Rev. Dr. Michael R. DuVal officiating.
He was born in Bluefield, W.Va., a son of the late Ernest Montogomery and Merry T. Foglesong Leedy. He was retired from the West Virginia Armature Co. and attended the First Baptist Church in Bluefield, W.Va.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Guy McGhee Leedy.
Survivors include his wife, Rhea Fox Leedy of the home; three sisters, Grace Leedy Camper of Forest, Hazel Leedy Templeton of Bluefield, W.Va., and Verna Leedy Worley of Rural Retreat; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Harold Calvin McQueen, 54, of Crockett, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Graveside services were held Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at the Edens cemetery in Keokee with the Rev. James Sanders officiating.
He is survived by his father, Roy Allen McQueen of the home; three sisters, Suzette Rodgers of Crockett, Nella Wilson of Marshall, N.C., and Christal Snyder of Ripley, W.Va.; five brothers, Tony McQueen of Middletown, Ohio, Jerry McQueen of Murphysboro, Tenn., Earl McQueen and Eldon McQueen, both of LeJunior, Ky., and Jimmy McQueen of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

Gerald C. Purcell, 72, of Kennesaw, Ga., died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at 2 p.m. at the Summit Baptist Church in Kennesaw, Ga., with the Rev. Scott Miller officiating. Entombment will be in Pine Ridge Memorial Park Mausoleum.
He was a Wilder native and had lived in Georgia since 1965. He retired from the Air Force after 23 years, serving during the Korean Conflict. He also retired from the E.P.A. as an environmental technician with 20 years of service.
He is survived by a son, Aaron Jay Purcell of Acworth, Ga.; two daughters, Donna Westmoreland of Marietta, Ga. and Diana Reavis of Kennesaw, Ga.; a sister, Nancy Loraine Anders of Marion; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Myrtle Felty Repass, 90, of Wytheville, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, in the Birdmont Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Eddie Noe. Burial was in the church cemetery.
She was the widow of James R. Repass.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, James Allen Repass.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James G. and Thelma Repass of Wytheville; a granddaughter, Virginia Ellen "Ginny" Mahaffey of Wytheville; a great-granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Mahaffey of Wytheville; and a granddaughter-in-law, Deborah Chapman Repass of Wytheville.

Laura Lee Hash Runions, 73, of Narrows, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, in the Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at 4 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Narrows with the Rev. Chris Michael officiating. Interment will follow in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
She was born in Comers Rock, the daughter of the late William McKinley and Cora Mays Hash.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Hash; and a sister, Lena Collins.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, William French "Bill" Runions of the home; one son, Kenneth Lee Runions of Narrows; one brother and sister-in-law, W. Vance and Peggy Hash of Rural Retreat; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Clara and Norman Jacoby of Lutherville, Md., and Betty and Robert J. Monroe of Aitkin, Minn.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
