Don Clifford Boyer

Don Clifford Boyer, 92, of Rural Retreat, the Cedar Springs Community, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, in the Francis Marion Manor.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 1 p.m. at the Summerfield United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Summerfield cemetery in Elk Creek.

He was born in Elk Creek, a son of the late James Ellis and Paulena Daniel Boyer and was an electrician and farmer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Dalton Boyer.

Survivors include two sisters, Geneva Waren of Damascus, and Treva Halsey of Sugar Grove; a brother, Leon Boyer of Bel Aire, Md.; special friends, Walter and Shirley Akers of Wytheville; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Nov. 26, from noon until services time at the church.

Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.

Elsie Ager Cassell

Elsie Ager Cassell, 94, of Wytheville died Monday, Nov. 17, 1997, at Asbury Center at Birdmont.

Services will be Friday, Nov. 28, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the St. John cemetery, Wytheville.

She was born in Crockett Feb. 25, 1903, a daughter of the late Harry and Mary Davidson Ager. She attended Radford College and was an elementary teacher in Wythe County for 35 years. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, former member of Wilderness Road DAR, Wythe County Retired Teachers Association, Crockett Homemakers Club and Rural Retreat Garden Club. She was the last member of the Harry Ager family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Brown Cassell of Austinville; three brothers, Ray Ager, Kent Ager, and Ernest Ager; and three sisters, Lelia Ager, Mae Copenhaver, and Annie Hilton.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Barbara Cassell of Independence; three grandchildren, William Brown Cassell II of Hebron, Ohio, Melisa Ann DiGiacomo of Palmyra, Dr. James Hugh Cassell of Galax; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Verna Ager, and Russell Steffey; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 28, from 1 p.m. until services time at Barnett Funeral Home.

William Alfred Coe

William Alfred Coe, 54, of Route 1, Wytheville, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Interment will be held at a later date.

He was the son of the late Hasel S. and Mattie Garland Coe and was employed as a truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Testerman Coe of Wytheville; two daughters, Melissa Coe of Wytheville, and Pamela Coe of Aberdeen, Md.; one son, Hassel Coe of Wytheville; two sisters, Betty Smith of Wytheville, and Elva Sauls of Baltimore, Md.; and four grandchildren.

The Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.

Graham Melton

Graham Melton, 71, of Wytheville, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 3 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Collins and the Rev. Dr. Charles C. Burnett officiating. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery.

He was born in Foster Falls, a son of the late Ira and Della Mae Vaughan Melton. He was retired from Burlington Industries and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Louise Hackler Melton; and three brothers, Clifford Melton, French Melton and Arthur Melton.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Clifton Viars Jr. of Max Meadows, and Brenda Melton Tobler of Galax; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Graham and Robyn Melton of Fort Chiswell, and James A. and Cathy DeZern Melton of Wytheville; six grandchildren, Leysa Melton Delp, Robert K. Melton, Amanda Melton McGehee, Sherry Viars Arnold, Timothy Ray Viars, and Danny J. Irvin Jr.; seven great-grandchildren, Gage Freeman, Jolena Farley, Josh McGehee, Megan McGehee, Reagan Delp, Brayden McGehee, and Sam Melton; one sister, Beulah Melton Coley of Fairfax; two brothers, Lonnie Lee Melton, and Trinkle R. Melton, both of Wytheville; special nephews, Jim and Betty Melton, and Jerry Melton; his mother-in-law, Annie Olinger Hackler of Suffolk; and several other nieces and nephews.

The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the American Cancer Society or Crockett Tabernacle Church.

Margie Louise Harmon Arnold

Margie Louise Harmon Arnold, 74, of Route 3, Wytheville, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997, in the Radford Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. at the Liberty Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Bob Lewis, the Rev. Joe Arnold, and the Rev. A.C. Ashford officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion cemetery.

She was born in Wythe County, a daughter of the late Leftwich and Ella Mae Groseclose Harmon. She was a member of Liberty Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmos L. Arnold; a son, Danny E. Arnold; four brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Wiley Dempsey of Route 3, Wytheville; a daughter-in-law, Penny Arnold of Route 3, Wytheville; a special grandson, Brian Arnold of Route 3, Wytheville; a special niece, Natalie Ratcliff of Route 3, Wytheville; two other grandchildren, Crystal Arnold and Paul Newberry, both of Route 3, Wytheville; and three sisters, Celia Roope and Rebecca Arnold, both of Dublin, and Bessie Arnold of Wytheville.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Liberty Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church or at the residence at any time.

Agnes Buresh Bartosh

Agnes Buresh Bartosh, 101, of Elberon, Iowa, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center following a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 24, at 1:30 p.m. at the Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone, Iowa, with the Rev. Ken Kent officiating. Burial was at National cemetery in Vining, Iowa.

She was born on Nov. 19, 1896 in Clutier, Iowa, a daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine Linhart Buresh. She married Joseph Bartosh on April 16, 1917 in Clutier, Iowa. She was a homemaker and a member of the James R. Kalina Post No. 226 American Legion Auxiliary in Elberon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1978, six brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Esther Bartosh of Toledo, Iowa, and Joe and Eileen Bartosh of Dysart, Iowa; two daughters, Libbie Kos of Toledo, Iowa, and Marie Vilimek of Elberon, Iowa; nine grandchildren including Clifford Bartosh of Route 1, Max Meadows; and 21 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements.

William Alfred Coe, 54, of Route 1, Wytheville, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Interment will be held at a later date.

Wilson Winfield Belcher

Wilson Winfield Belcher, 67, of Rocky Gap, Va., died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at his residence after a long bout with cancer.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m. at Riffe’s Funeral Service Chapel in Narrows, Va., with the Rev. Allen Mahan, the Rev. Barry Absher and Keith Gore officiating. Burial will be in the Monte Vista Park cemetery, Bluefield, W.Va.

He was a lifelong resident of Bland County, Va., and was born Aug. 26, 1934. He was a member of the Laurel Fork Baptist Church and American Legion Post No. 68 of Narrows, Va. He was a retired employee of the Celanese Plant at Narrows, Va., after 30 years of service and was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Winfield and Mary Wilson Belcher; and a sister, Joyce Belcher Lilly.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Mary Lou Belcher of the home; a son, Sammy Belcher of Rocky Gap, Va.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Mark Neal of Rocky Gap, Va., and Susan and Teddy Kinder of Alexis, N.C.; and six grandchildren, J.C. Belcher, Joshua Neal, Jeremy Neal, Jacob Kinder, Mollie Neal and Samantha Belcher.

The family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows, Va.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of Southwest Virginia, 600 West Ridge Road, Wytheville, VA 24382.

Erma Grubb Frye

Erma Grubb Frye, 76, of Wytheville, Va., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, in the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m. at Evergreen United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Carbary and Sherman Dixon officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

She was a daughter of the late Walter S. and Georgia Etter Grubb. She was a member of the Evergreen United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, H. Peyton Frye of Wytheville, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, Foye and Peggy Frye of Marion, Va.; a sister, Dolly Robinson of Wytheville, Va.; a grandson, Billy Frye of Blacksburg, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 14, from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Evergreen Church cemetery Fund or the American Cancer Society.

Myrtle Gilbert Lambert

Myrtle Gilbert Lambert, 95, of Wytheville, Va., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, in the Edgemont Health Care Center, Wytheville, Va.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Ann Blair officiating. Interment will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Lambert.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Judson and Barbara Lambert of Wytheville; three sisters, Vivian F. Wampler of Marion, Va., Edna Blessing of Wytheville, Va., and Hazel Brinkley of Lenoir, N.C.; one grandson, John Lambert of Washington, D.C.; a special niece, Helen Burkett of Marion, Va.; a special nephew, Don Wampler of Marion, Va.; and several other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home.

Claudine King Martin

Claudine King Martin, 74, of Ivanhoe, Va., died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, in the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Home Chapel in Austinville, Va., with the Rev. John Jenkins and the Rev. Gary Cope officiating. Interment will be in the Odd Fellows cemetery, Ivanhoe, Va.

She was born in Ivanhoe, Va., a daughter of the late Eli Davis King and Florence Walke King. She was a member of the Ivanhoe Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Ivanhoe Senior Citizens. She was retired from Wythe County Community Hospital where she was a nurse’s aide for 26 years.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include her husband, Warren G. "Billy" Martin of the home; four sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Joyce Martin of Austinville, Va., Terry and Kathy Martin, Tom and Connie Martin, all of Wytheville, Va., and Mike Martin of Ivanhoe, Va.; a brother, Randolph King of Ivanhoe, Va.; a sister, Sarah Jane Russell of Smithfield, N.C.; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one stepgrandchild and one great-stepgrandchild.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Home or at the residence at any time.
