Sandra Braswell Dillard, 53, of Route 2, Austinville, died Monday, June 16, 1997, at Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 19, at 11 a.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel in Austinville. Interment will follow in the Independence Church cemetery in Carroll County.
She was born in Salisbury, N.C. and was co-owner of Poplar Camp Truck Service.
She was preceded in death by her father, Marion Braswell.
Survivors include her husband, Otis W. Dillard of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Vickie D. and Zonnie Hill of Fancy Gap; a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce A. and Tina H. Dillard of Austinville; her mother, Ora F. Braswell of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Betty Rudasile of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Mac Braswell of Charlotte, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Home.

Mabel Virginia Stoots Underwood, 69, of Austinville, the Grayson Hill Community, died Saturday, June 14, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 16, at 2 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel with the Rev. G.L. East Jr. officiating. Interment followed in the Beasley cemetery in Austinville.
She was born in Wythe County, a daughter of the late William W. and Gladys Jones Stoots.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard H. "Jack" Underwood.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Juanita and Jimmy Holbrook of Glen Allen, Rebecca and Charles Umbarger of Ceres, and Carolyn Sue and Doyle Bell of Huntsville, Ala.; three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Brenda Underwood of Vinton, Phillip and Deborah Underwood, and Michael and Teresa Underwood, all of Max Meadows; three sisters, Beatrice Peak of Tappahannock, Cecile Beasley of Austinville, and Linda Frye of Wytheville; one brother, Howard Stoots of Wytheville; special friends, Dean and Imogene Barker, Sue Nester, Frank Alley, and Marie Jonas; and 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

Bessie Mae Rice Anderson
Bessie Mae Rice Anderson, 68, of Speedwell, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 22, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Groseclose Chapel cemetery.
She was born in Covington, a daughter of the late Frank L. and Thelma Frances Thomas Rice. She was retired from the Brunswick Company.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lottie Umbarger; and a brother, Frank L. Rice Jr.
Survivors include two daughters, Gail Anderson of Speedwell, and Thelma Knutson of New Mexico; one son, Michael Roy Anderson of Speedwell; five grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Price of Rural Retreat; and three brothers, Ray Rice of Randleman, N.C., Lawrence Rice of Reidsville, N.C., and Willie Rice of Henderson, N.C.

Charles Randolph Burchette, 76, of Route 1, Ivanhoe, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at his residence.
Funeral services will be Monday, June 23, at 2 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. C.D. Underwood. Interment will be in the Odd Fellows cemetery, Ivanhoe.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Mabe Burchette.
Survivors include four daughters, Sarah R. King of Kernersville, N.C., Helen S. Rose of Looneyville, W.Va., Charlene Gail Tickle of Chilhowie, and Shirley Burchette; five sons, George K. Mabe of Central Isilp, N.Y., William Joseph Burchette of Rural Retreat, Randolph C. Burchette of Floyd, Andy C. Burchette of Ivanhoe, and Charles R. Burchette Jr.; and 21 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

He was a retired cabinet maker and was a member of the Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge No. 226 A.F. & A.M.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Virgie Cornett Burris; a sister, Locky May Burris; and two grandchildren, Justin Wilson and Hope Wilson.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Jean Burris of the home; five daughters and sons-in-law, Debra Burris and Roger Allen Paxton of Covington, Shirley Jean Burris of Rural Retreat, Patricia Darlene and Pete Wilson of Wytheville, Sharon Yvonne and Gordon Kay of Millboro, and Sue Ellen and Philip Strickland of Duncan, S.C.; three sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Anthony and Sherry Lynn Burris, Jason Preston Burris, and Jonas Anthony Burris, both of the home; his father, Raymond G. Burris of Rural Retreat; two sisters, Mary Cedella Englar of Abingdon, Md., and Linda Carol Reardon of Rural Retreat; three brothers, Oscar Burris of Virginia Beach, Donald Burris, and Homer Burris, both of Rural Retreat; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Mabel Virginia "Jennie" Davis, 77, of Wichita Falls, Texas, died Friday, May 9, 1997, at her residence.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Crockett with the Rev. Larry Bolliger officiating.
Born in Crockett on Dec. 8, 1919, she had lived in Wichita Falls, Texas, for 15 years. She was a retired L.V.N. and a member of Westside Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mary B. Davis; three sisters, Lydia Hall, Flora Blessing, and Alene Davis.
Survivors include two sisters, Helen Carter of Salem, and Ruby Irene Huffman of Roanoke; two brothers, Walters Davis of Cleveland, Tenn., and Conard Davis of Bowie, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Russell; and a daughter, Elizabeth Russell Sparks.

He was a long time employee of Jafree Shirt Co. and was retired from Green Lawn Classics and was a member of Stage Road Chapel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Winifred Kincer Walters; a son, Jerry Walters; and a grandson, Darrell Bailey.
Survivors include a son, George Walters of Wytheville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Clara and Coburn Williams of Wytheville, Sally and Richard Bailey of Hawkinsville, Ga., and Bettie and Herbie Patton of Wytheville; a sister, Agnes Burress of Wytheville; a daughter-in-law, Hope Walters of Wytheville; a sister-in-law, Frances Walters of Wytheville; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday, June 23, at 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Vaughn Earl Hartsell officiating. Graveside services and interment were Tuesday, June 24, at 2 p.m. at the Archer Family cemetery with the Rev. Randy Morris officiating.
He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late Harrison M. Sr. and Ferba Turman Archer. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany.
He is survived by a daughter, Penny Jo Archer Houston of Salem; two sisters and brother-in-law, Pauline Nichols of Wytheville, and Opal and Paul Jackson of Route 2, Max Meadows; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John D. and Minnie Archer of Richmond, and James Kelly and Martha Archer of Wilmington, Del.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the son of the late Jefferson Davis and Sallie McGraw Ayers. He was a life-long member of the Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Collins Ayers; and a sister, Frances Gillette.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Dean Ayers of Wytheville; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. "Bob" and Sue P. Ayers of Rural Retreat; two grandchildren, Robert E. Hutton of Lebanon, and Jane A.
