Noma K. "Kat" Bowers, 76, of Middle Road, North Kingsville, Ohio, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, in the Ashtabula County Medical Center.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 18, at 11 a.m. in the Mount Hope cemetery in Fries, Va., with the Rev. Rance Edwards officiating.

She was born in Wythe County, Va., a daughter of the late Moody and Emma Holiday Collins. She retired from Molded Fiber Glass.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest C. Bowers; two brothers, Joe Collins and Jack Collins; and a sister, Anna-Margaret Wright.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas C. and Sandra K. Bowers of Ashtabula, Ohio; five grandchildren, Penny Bowers of Painsville, Ohio, Rebecca Bartone of Indianapolis, Ind., Keith Bowers of Columbia, S.C., Tracy Daniels of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Jessica Green of North Kingsville, Ohio; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Frankie Lawson of Fries, Va., and Barbara Collins of Ivanhoe, Va.

Reese Funeral Home in Austinville, Va., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Elizabeth Cline Crockett

Mary Elizabeth "Sis" Cline Crockett, 59, of Wytheville, Va., died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, in the Roanoke Rehabilitation Center, Roanoke, Va.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 18, at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant cemetery with the Rev. Robert Billingsley officiating.

She was born in Wythe County, Va., a daughter of the late Gordon C. and Mary Virginia King Cline.

Survivors include a daughter, Virginia L. "Jeni" Crockett of Wytheville, Va.; two grandchildren, Brandon Keith Gravely and Derek Weston Gravely, both of the home; an aunt, Bea Lawson of Wytheville, Va.; and special friends, Dennis D. Crockett of Cripple Creek, Va., Judy Safewright of Wytheville, Va., and Barbara McNutt of Pulaski, Va.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home.

Golda Ella Delp Arnold

Golda Ella Delp Arnold, 96, of Austinville, Va., died Saturday, May 25, 2002, in the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Kenneth Fogus and the Rev. Benny Anglin officiating. Interment followed in the West End cemetery, Wytheville, Va.

She was born in Carroll County, Va., a daughter of the late Peter Delp and Mary Ella Alexander Delp. She was a member of the New Covenant Fellowship Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Lawrence Arnold; her second husband, Lou Arnold; three sons, William Lawrence "Billy" Arnold, James Joseph Arnold, and an infant son.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Carolyn Arnold of Houston, Texas; four daughters and one son-in-law, Jean Cabiness of Hopewell, Va., Wanda Abner of Austinville, Va., Mary Mullins of Richmond, Va., and Ruth and Berkley Cumbie of Liberty, Texas; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Claude Calvin Brooks Sr.

Claude Calvin Brooks Sr., 76, of Marion, Va., died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at his residence in Marion, Va.

Funeral services will held on Wednesday, May 29, at 11 a.m. at Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel, Marion, Va., with the Rev. Bob Surber officiating. Interment will follow in Comers Creek cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Francis Marion VFW Post No. 4667.

He was born in Troutdale, Va., to the late John and Dema Brooks. He was retired from Brunswick Corporation with 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He was a member of the Francis Marion VFW Post No. 4667 and the Adwolfe Freewill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Fortner Brooks.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Claude Jr. and Sandra Alderman Brooks of Wytheville, Va.; grandchildren, Christopher Brooks of Wytheville, Va., and Susan and Mark Woods of Bluff City, Tenn.; one great-grandchild, Dema Woods; two step- grandchildren, four great-stepgrandchildren; and a special nephew, Charles Gene Huff.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bradley's Funeral Home.

Laura Mae Duncan Eanes

Laura Mae Duncan Eanes, 81, of Wytheville, Va., died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Asbury Center at Birdmont, Wytheville, Va.

Graveside services and interment were held Monday, May 27, at 3 p.m. in the West End cemetery, Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. George Thomas Monday officiating.

She was born in Pulaski County, Va., a daughter of the late Burton Caldwell and Claudia Mae Robinson Duncan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest William Eanes.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Beatrice Cline, Edna and Gary Havens, all of Wytheville, Va., and Sue and James Adams of Max Meadows, Va.; four grandchildren, Michael Wayne Cline, Timothy Adams, Christina Havens, and Alan Havens; two great-grandchildren, Wesley Adams and Jacob Adams; one brother, Oakley Duncan of Pulaski, Va.; five sisters, Mary Bryant, Beatrice Mitchell and Elizabeth Hughes, all of Pulaski, Va., Cora Jones of Ohio, and Ethel Sert of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Virginia Neel Kitts

Virginia Neel Kitts, 85, of Salem, Va., and Asbury Center at Birdmont, Wytheville, Va., died Saturday, March 16, 2002.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 19, at 11 a.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home in Bland, Va. Burial followed in Maple Hill cemetery in Bluefield, Va.

She was born in Bluefield, Va., on July 16, 1916, to the late Allen J. and Nancy Tibbs Neel.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, James William "Bill" Kitts of Wytheville, Va.; one son, William Keith Kitts of Ventura, Calif.; one daughter, Nancy Kitts Hoge of Bland, Va.; one granddaughter and her spouse, Rebecca Hoge and David Bane of Bland, Va.; two grandsons and their spouses, James Meek "Jay" and Barbara Hoge of Tobaccoville, N.C., and Edward Todd and Sherry Hoge of Bland, Va.; one great-granddaughter, Morgan Marie Hoge of Bland, Va.; step great-grandchildren, Eden Bane and Brent Bane of Bluefield, W.Va.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bland County Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 10, Bastian, VA 24314.

Beulah Laverne Payne

Beulah Laverne Payne, 49, of Barren Springs, Va., died Monday, March 18, 2002, at the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 20, at 1 p.m. at the Charity Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Stuart and the Rev. Wayne Burnett officiating. Burial will be in the Charity cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Frank McGrady of Draper, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Donna Goines of Max Meadows, Va.; a brother, Bobby Payne of Austinville, Va.; and a sister, Beatrice Alexander of Max Meadows, Va.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, Va.

Alice M. Edmonds

Alice M. Edmonds, 81, of Johnson City, Tenn., died Sunday, May 26, 2002, in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, Johnson City, Tenn.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 28, at 7 p.m. in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, Johnson City, Tenn., with Pastor Greg Dobler and Pastor Scott Taylor officiating. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 29, at 11 a.m. in Sanders cemetery, Wythe County, Va.

She was a native of Pulaski, Va., and was a daughter of the late Earley Malcolm and Nancy Bell Gravley. She was a homemaker and had resided in Wythe County, Va., for many years. She was a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Wytheville, Va.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph P. Edmonds in 1993; three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Ruth Hoff of Johnson City, Tenn., and Patsy Jane Huff of Crestview Hills, Ky.; two sons, Jessie Lent Edmonds of Crestview, Fla., and George Malcolm Edmonds of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; one brother, Earley Eugene Gravley of Pulaski, Va.; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Evangelization in Eastern Europe, 901 Wilson Ave., Johnson City, TN 37604, for the Dawn of Light Home for Boys, Skopje, Macedonia.

Mary Littreal Mills

Mary Littreal Mills, 82, of Cripple Creek, Va., died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Edgemont Center, Wytheville, Va.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 17, at 2 p.m. at the Cripple Creek Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Jerry Phillips, the Rev. Geary Jonas and the Rev. Cecil Frazier officiating. Interment will follow in the Littreal Family cemetery.

She was born in Wythe County, Va., a daughter of the late Bays and Edith Kirby Littreal. She was a member of the Cripple Creek Church of God of Prophecy and was a retired lab technician at the former Malin Hospital, Wytheville, Va.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Swanson P. Mills; and a daughter, Edith Authehrieth.

Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, Julius and Glenda Mills of Cripple Creek, Va., Sam Mills, Will and Judy Mills, Jim and Talitha Mills, and E.J. and Lynn Mills, all of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; two daughters, Helen Littig of Orlando, Fla., and Kitty McMillan of Christiansburg, Va.; two brothers, Bill Littreal and Ralph Littreal, both of Cripple Creek, Va.; three sisters, Rachel Crockett and Becky Moore, both of Cripple Creek, Va., and Clarice Sullivan of Fries, Va.; 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville, Va.

Allen Monroe Turley, 80 of Wytheville, Va., died Thursday, May 30, 2002 at his residence.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, June 2, at 2 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Albert Brown officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset cemetery, Rich Valley, Va.

He was the son of the late John M. and Ida Dillman Turley and was a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Havens Turley of Wytheville, Va.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia and James Johnson of Marion, Va., and Pamela Cassell of Wytheville, Va.; two stepdaughters, Judy Altizer of Wytheville, Va., and Deanna Allen of Barren Springs, Va.; a stepson, Philip Havens Jr. of Chilhowie, Va.; sister, Ruby Hounshell of Wytheville, Va.; a brother, William "Butch" Turley of Marion, Va.; grandchildren, Wendy Hamm of Fries, Va., Tracy Johnson of Marion, Va., Brandy Cassell, Brittany Cassell, and Bradley Davis, all of Wytheville, Va.; step-grandchildren, Jared Havens of Hillsville, Va., Amanda Altizer of Wytheville, Va., and Maranda Allen of Barren Springs, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home.

Charles Kippling Stroupe

Charles Kippling "Kip" Stroupe, 39, of Speedwell, Va., died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 30, at 2 p.m. at the Gillman Funeral Chapel, Wytheville, Va. Interment will follow in the Speedwell United Methodist Church cemetery.

He is survived by his mother, Betty Stroupe of Speedwell, Va.; his grandmother, Eva Bartee of Speedwell, Va.; two brothers, William "Bo" Testerman, and Jerry Testerman, both of Speedwell, Va.; four sisters, Teresa G. Benitez of Wytheville, Va., Eva "Tiny" Terry of Rural Retreat, Va., Betty "PeeWee" Rosenbaum of Wytheville, Va., and Debbie L. Sexton of Fredricksburg, Va.; and several special in-laws, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 30, from noon until 2 p.m. (service time) at the Gillman Funeral Chapel.

James David Baumgardner

James David Baumgardner, 44, of Ivanhoe, Va., died Friday, May 10, 2002, in the Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 13, at 3 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Bob Steele officiating. Interment will follow in the Umberger Family cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack B. Baumgardner.

Survivors include his wife, Edith G. Baumgardner of the home; a son, John T. "Buster" Baumgardner of the home; two daughters, Kelly Baumgardner and Kim Baumgardner, both of Chilhowie, Va.; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Wills of Baltimore, Md.; his mother, Josephine Shuler Baumgardner of Wytheville, Va.; a sister, Nancy Owens of Wytheville, Va.; two brothers, Ronald and Shirley Baumgardner of Kanapolis, N.C., and Jack Baumgardner of Chilhowie, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
