Leah Carol Bigglestone Counts, 42, of Wytheville died Thursday, March 27, 1997.
Celebration of life funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, at 3 p.m. at the Stage Road Chapel in Wytheville with lay speaker, Alan Walters, the Rev. Dr. Charles Burnett and Pastor Greg Dill officiating. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.
She was a member of the Stage Road Chapel and served with the St. Paul Pre-school for 10 years between 1986 and 1996 and director for six years.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Markley Grady Bigglestone; and mother-in-law, June Hicks Counts.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis Reed Counts Jr. of the home; her children, Mary Markley County, 15, Molly Preston Counts, 13, and William "Willy" Halsey County, 10, all of the home; her father and step-mother, William Edward and Kay W. Bigglestone of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Mark E. Bigglestone of Tucson, Ariz.; her father-in-law, Dennis Reed Counts Sr. of Wytheville; and several nieces and nephews.
Leah requested that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the St. Paul Pre-school, Stage Road Chapel or the George Wythe Mighty Maroon Marching Band.

Cynthia Mary Hager, 97, of Cripple Creek died Monday, March 24, in the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 27, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Joe Carico officiating. Interment followed in the St. Peter's Lutheran cemetery in Cripple Creek.
She was born in Cripple Creek a daughter of the late Gus and Lucy Jane Rosenbaum Hager. She was a member of the Crockett's Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Lewis; and two brothers, Clyde Dotson and Don Dotson.
Survivors include a sister, Nancy Creasey of Stuart; a special niece, Mrs. Bill (Doris) Littreal of Cripple Creek; several nieces, nephews, and great nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Virginia Dotson of Fieldale, and Mrs. Lou Dotson of Wytheville.

Ernestine Dix James
Ernestine Dix "Johnny" James, 73, of Wytheville died Thursday, March 27, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, at 11 a.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Robert Smith. Interment will be in the West End cemetery.
She was a daughter of the late Robert Harlow and Stella King Dix. She was retired from the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and was a member of the West End United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Wiley James Sr. of Wytheville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wiley Jr. "Sam" and Peggy S. James of Wytheville, and R.P. and Diane James of Herndon; two grandsons and spouses, Bobby and Teresa James and Stephen and Becki James, all of Bristol; great-granddaughter, Lauren James of Bristol; two sisters, Charlotte D. Cook, and Lucille D. Gilbert, both of Wytheville; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Dix of Wytheville, and Cora Ross of Troutdale; and several nieces and nephews.

Edna Crigger Jarvis, 69, of Route 1, Rural Retreat died Thursday, March 27, 1997, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, at 2 p.m. at the Sharon Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Hoyle and the Rev. Fred Jennings officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time.
She was born in Sugar Grove, a daughter of the late Edward Crigger and Lillie Bonham Crigger Fulton. She was a member of the Sharon Baptist Church in Rural Retreat where she served as a Sunday school teacher for a number of years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel Bealie (C.B.) Jarvis Jr.; one brother, Otis Crigger; and one daughter-in-law, Shirley Jarvis.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Bob Kell, and Pam and Henry Corvin, all of Rural Retreat; three sons and daughters-in-law, Roger Jarvis, Larry and Debbie Jarvis, and Doug and Judy Jarvis, all of Rural Retreat; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Luticia and Millard Strunk of Harvard, Idaho, and Winnie and Howard Keyes of Penns Grove, N.Y.; and 15 grandchildren.

Alleta May Durham Blankenship, 68, of Crandon in Bland County died Sunday, March 30, 1997, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 2, at 2 p.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate with the Rev. Frank Clifton and Rev. J.D. Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Mechanicsburg cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
She was born June 24, 1928 in Bland County, a daughter of the late John Harvey and Roxie Ann Vencil Durham. She was a member of Byrns Chapel Methodist Church and the Bland County VFW Auxiliary Post No. 7969.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond Blankenship of Crandon; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Carol Blankenship of Crandon; one daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Tommy Kitts of Crandon; three brothers, Harvey Durham of Mechanicsburg, Paul Durham of Bluefield, and John Henry "Buddy" Durham of Pulaski; six sisters, Edith Melvin, Frankie Strock, both of Mechanicsburg, June Blankenship of Wytheville, Jerri Baisden of Princeton, W.Va., Yvonne Bowman of Bluefield, W.Va., and Evelyn Ballard of Radford; and two grandchildren, Brooke Kitts and Angela Blankenship.

Clifford Q. Eversole
Clifford Q. "Bill" Eversole, 84, of Austinville (the Grayson Hill Community) died Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 3, at noon at the Full Gospel Bible Mission with the Rev. Hal Lewis, the Rev. Ray Humphries and the Rev. Garland Porter officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany cemetery.
He was born in Wythe County a son of the late Albert and Myrtle Akers Eversole. He was a retried employee of the New Jersey Zinc Co.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Bralley Eversole of the home; two sons, Ronald Leroy Eversole, and Joseph Gary Eversole, both of Austinville; two grandchildren, Tammy Marie Snyder, and Gregory Dale Eversole; one great-granddaughter, Emily Grace Snyder; two sisters, Ruth Eversole, and Jewett Catron, both of Wytheville; and two brothers, Brown D. Eversole of Wytheville, and David W. Eversole of Route 1, Max Meadows.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 2, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Home.

Franklin Brooks Gregory, 78, of Winston-Salem, N.C., formerly of Ivanhoe, died Sunday, March 30, 1997, in the North Carolina Baptist Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 2, at 2 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Junior Moore and Rev. Don Crockett officiating. Interment will follow in the Odd Fellows cemetery in Ivanhoe.
He was born in Pulaski, a son of the late Frank and Daisy Bratton Gregory. He was retired from the City Water Department in Winston-Salem, N.C. and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II where he served with the military police.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Gregory.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Shinault Gregory of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Frances and Donald Beaman, Patricia and Carl Sapp, Trenda and Ray Williams, all of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Tammy Gregory and Steven Blodgett of Lexington, N.C.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Franklin B. Jr. and Mildred Gregory, Richard Vance and Ruth Gregory, all of Winston-Salem, N.C., Early and Janice Gregory of Ivanhoe, and Barry and Tracy Gregory of Mt. Airy, N.C.; seven sisters, Jerlean Dalton, Thelma Jennings, Delma Hall, Betty Oldford, Stella Dalton, Shelby Jennings, all of Route 2, Max Meadows, and Earlean Flouz of Pulaski; one brother, Boyd Gregory of Pulaski; and 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Walter Lee Hushour, 83, of Rural Retreat died Saturday, March 29, 1997, in the Francis Marion Manor.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 1, at 2 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Countiss officiating. Interment followed in the Mountain View cemetery.
He was a retired employee of the Old Pet Milk, Inc. in Rural Retreat.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Hamm Hushour.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Hackler Hushour; one daughter, Joyce H. Warden of Friendswood, Texas; two sons, Rex Hushour of Vinton, and Roger Hushour of Stockton, Calif.; one step-son, Ronald Hackler of Ovieda, Fla.; one brother, John E. Hushour of Richmond; and five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.

Forrest Powell Johnson, 47, of Dublin, formerly of Wytheville, died Monday, March 31, 1997, in the Radford Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 2, 1997, at 11 a.m. at the Bob White Boulevard Church of God in Pulaski with the Rev. Robert Owens officiating. Interment will be Saturday, April 5, at 11 a.m. at the St. John's Episcopal Church Columbarium.
He was a graduate of Randolph-Macon Academy, Wytheville Community College and Western Kentucky University. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Germany and was employed by R.P. Johnson of Wytheville.
He is survived by his wife, Carol R. Johnson of the home; a son, John B. Kitts of Warner Robins, Ga.; a grandson, Austin Kitts of Warner Robins, Ga.; his parents, Robert E. and Jane Johnson of Wytheville; two brothers, Thomas T. Johnson of Roanoke, and Robert M. Johnson of London, England; and many nieces and nephews.

She was born in Dublin, Ga., a daughter of the late Frank Malcolm and Ronnie Ulmer. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and Evansham Chapter No. 97, Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Richard Rowe Jr.; and two sisters, Nellie Ulmer Attaway and Edna Ulmer Gould.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Thomas Sawyers of Penhook, and Carolyn and Ralph Julian McHone of Kernersville, N.C.; a son, James Richard Rowe III of Dublin; a sister, Geri Ulmer McDonald of Tualatin, Ore.; two brothers, Frank Malcolm Ulmer Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jahnz Ulmer of Glenville, Ga.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Emily Umberger Rowe of Crockett, Susie Rowe Oglesby of Draper, John H. and Margaret Owen Rowe of Roanoke, and James R. Gould of Medford, Ore.; and four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and three nephews.
